The Most Shocking Ending in Sports History....
youtube.com — No. This is not from a movie. Yes. This really happened.

- digg it
- st00dy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+100where were the crowd reaction shots? dammit, i want to see crying students!
- Sagags, on 10/12/2007, -48/+9man I could just imagine the sinking feeling of going all that way then loosing it all in less than a minute
- Cynicalsomethin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+174I go to Winona State and was watching the game with about 10 other people. When all this happened, the room was just silent and everyone sat in amazement. It still pisses me off watching the video.
But I have to look at the bright side, Winona State made digg! - VicHislop, on 10/12/2007, -182/+36@sagags You know, it's supposed to be "losing" and not "loosing" in this case. It's getting rediculous that so many people are not learning proper grammer and spelling. Their just not paying attention at all! I guess not everyone is a perfectionist like me...
- hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -2/+29that was some cool *****. i was on the edge of my seat for the last 20 seconds
- gravis86, on 10/12/2007, -7/+224"man I could just imagine the sinking feeling of going all that way then loosing it all in less than a minute"
That's what she said. - Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23@cynicalsomethin;
Hey man! I go to WSU too!
I was at work watching the game, I went back to doing my normal stuff because I thought we had it in the bag...and then everyone started shouting "No ***** way!" then everyone was dead silent, I walked over and I was in disbelief.
But yeah, its pretty sweet Winona made digg. - Mandeep, on 10/12/2007, -5/+158Saw this on Sportscenter last night and I admit it was a cool ending. But honestly...most shocking ending in sports history? I guess the only sport you watch is DII basketball because I've seen better endings.
- BHRecon, on 10/12/2007, -23/+73@vichislop
Next time you want to be a grammar Nazi.. learn the difference between their and they're. In conclusion, u fail at the internet. - duality, on 10/12/2007, -23/+64@vichislop
I find your spelling nazi statement highly ironic, considering that it contains misspelled versions of the words "ridiculous" and "grammar", and it uses the word "their" in a place that requires the word "they're". - NoStoppingUs, on 10/12/2007, -23/+4i hate sports, but JESUS CHRIST THAT WAS CRAZY.
- VicHislop, on 10/12/2007, -43/+16@duality
I was going to add an inappropriate usage of "begs the question" as well, but thought it would be a bit too much. Apparently, I misjudged.
To the topic, that video is amazing. The steal at the end reminded of Bird and '87 Eastern Conference Finals. - nepawoods, on 10/12/2007, -25/+20@BHRecon
"Next time you want to be a grammar Nazi.. learn the difference between their and they're. In conclusion, u fail at the internet."
and @duality
"I find your spelling nazi statement highly ironic, considering that it contains misspelled versions of the words "ridiculous" and "grammar", and it uses the word "their" in a place that requires the word "they're"."
You two just made fools of yourselves by not spotting the obviously deliberate mockery. - esotericguy, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4@nepawoods comments towards the others
BURN!!!!!! - fyrehart, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18http://youtube.com/watch?v=T9_pPqWfI84
MD vs. Duke - 2001 NCAA tourny
Duke down by 10 with less than 1 min - mutatron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33Vichislop's humor seems to have been lost on some people.
- cwshea, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Owned.
- Radar5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the shots of the amazed winona students were pretty good.
that's what sport moments are all about. - tonich03, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Chris Rock owned the pitch.
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23This one is the most shocking:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIQhg0D5m6M - skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"This one is the most shocking:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIQhg0D5m6M"
That was hilarious. Did you see everyone cover their heads? - jblade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Id have to say the Duke vs Maryland was more shocking. I believe Maryland was up 10 points with a minute left, and duke hit basically every 3 shot from the entire court, and came back to tie/win it.
- Lixie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9That was a good ending. But I'm still partial to the Boise State v. Oklahoma '07 Fiesta Bowl.
- Improv241, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0a roommate and i were watching this game just screaming like crazy for a D2 game.... never thought that would happen, but man...it was awesome. wouldn't have watched it if they started the other games on time.
- kpw1179, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8The Most Misleading Headline on Digg Today..."
- phike, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Not the most shocking moment in sports history, not even the most shocking in basketball history!
Most shocking is the Stanford-Cal Football game with the band marching onto the field during the last play.
BTW, no one cares about division II basketball unless you go to a division II school. - punkrockscks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ cynicalsomethin
dude, my sister goes to Winona State, I grew up there... wow, a tiny town makes digg... - VicHislop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@mutatron
Some is an understatement. I could care less though. I was already quite aware that to many diggers are woefully ignorant. This is just a reaffirmation. - nebel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sad, Winona State won last year, and I recall I had a conversation with a lady I worked with and she said, "It put Winona on the map." I could only reply, "We were already there for giving Al Capone syphilis."
- Reclinatron, on 10/12/2007, -8/+49That was awesome.
- laplacian, on 10/12/2007, -17/+3eh.
- OAKsider, on 10/12/2007, -14/+9No it was AMAZING... *sigh*
Not "The Most Shocking Ending in Sports History" though.
Nor does it even remotely look like it came "from a movie".
But the fact it "really happened" makes it worth a watch.
I guess. - Azap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Not a movie... yet
- xcomputerman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Greatest choke job I've ever seen. Dirk Nowitzki must be jealous.
- theragu40, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wish I hadn't turned the game off. I had it chalked up for Winona
- mattman12345, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7one of the greatest games i have ever seen in my life, i happened to turn the tv on with 3 minuets left, it was awesome!
- cmcarson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42not a chance. it was a heck of a comeback, but that's not even division one basketball.
reggie miller scored six points in like 2 seconds to a tie a game.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=YtPaMgyz4ec
p.s. too bad i HATE reggie miller. - plucas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah, Miller's was really impressive. Some huge clutch shots. This felt like Winona just fell apart at the end and the other team happened to still be playing. They still missed that clutch free throw and got lucky to keep getting so many chances. Still impressive tho, for sure.
- vsujohn2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7We're talking about winning this game and scoring these points against a team that was on a 57 game winning streak....
- schadenfreude56, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33I prefer this one. (NBA not NCAA)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ceLlz7dOOvY
T-Mac: 13 points in 33 seconds.
- cmcarson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42not a chance. it was a heck of a comeback, but that's not even division one basketball.
- FatPhil, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3wow that atkinson kid is nuts. Crazy finish indeed
- Abstract147, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Was the one that missed that freethrow to tie the same who made the final bucket?
- Ubish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Yes it was.
- mkillion, on 10/12/2007, -16/+1no.
- NtHammer, on 10/12/2007, -29/+9they were both black, so yes
- damonic, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1yes
- idugcoal, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1yea
- crgnetworks, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1yep
- Abstract147, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Looks like he made up for that big time then.
- Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16he actually scored the last 10 points of the game for barton
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -5/+35That's still not as good as the Boise State vs. Oklahoma bowl game. That was guts, clutch, and teamwork all rolled into one.
- vsujohn2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I still want to point out that Winona State had not lost in over a year and a half, 57 basketball games, including their national championship.
Boise State's accomplishment was amazing, but it was against an admittedly weaker than normal Oklahoma team. - Splendor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yeah, the BSU Fiesta Bowl win over OSU gets my vote too.
Here's a video link.

- vsujohn2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I still want to point out that Winona State had not lost in over a year and a half, 57 basketball games, including their national championship.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+86wait, this is the most shocking end in sports history!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=YAxu9Rfm77M- hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -0/+14lmfao He tackled some nerd in the band...
- fitzfan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The high school football game that was on digg a few months ago has to be the greatest finish. I hope someone posts a link to it.
- pooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice, but I love the ending on the Saints' miracle lateral play better...
- ThisBlows, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Good thing you didn't post your email! The University of Oklahoma is OU.
Colors: Red and White Nick Name: Sooners
Oklahoma State University is OSU!!!!!!! Colors: Orange and Black
Nick Name: Cowboys
Cowboy: Originally labeled a VERY lonely trail hand. - 93ex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@fitzfan
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZHkABO0VwCg this one? - YoungDeezy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I cannot watch the Cal/Stanford ending without my eyes welling up. That's what NCAA sports are all about.
- ChicknBot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Nice find NymphoChik
that kid is amazing- ChronicColonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Okay, this video is awesome. That being said, here is a point to ponder. Consider these facts:
1) This story was dugg by NymphoChik.
http://digg.com/users/NymphoChik/profile
2) NymphoChik - a great screen name BTW, has selected zero friends as of this post.
http://digg.com/users/NymphoChik/friends/news/dugg
3) There are 24 diggers who have befriended NymphoChik. Ah, the lonely techno-geeks of Digg. Befriending a hot looking girl with the name NymphoChik might give you the chance of hooking up with a real girl in real life...at least in a Digger's mind.
http://digg.com/users/NymphoChik/friends/befriended
- ChronicColonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27Okay, this video is awesome. That being said, here is a point to ponder. Consider these facts:
- gadalla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30I think tracy mcgrady's 13 points in 40 seconds was much better than this
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ceLlz7dOOvY- TastyBaconTreat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Don't forget about Boise St. vs Oklahoma a few months ago in a bowl game
- holycrapitsed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Tmac's was pretty ridiculous. 13 points in 33 seconds. Rockets were down by 10 with under a minute to go. The Spurs really only made one mistake, and that was when the dude slipped ... and Tracy was getting guarded by Bruce Bowen, elite defender, even by NBA standards.
This clip wasn't as good, but still amazing.
- Sneak85, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0That is all the more funny when I remembered half the people I graduated with from high school go to Winona St.
- triscuitbiscuit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Who was more excited- the team or the announcers? heh
- hakz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1didn't he take about 3 steps without bouncing the ball?
- bigpeeler, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That's one of the reasons why basketball is such a joke of a sport. They bend rules like travelling and fouling just to make it more interesting. Players todays couldn't abide by the rules of 15-20 years ago. It's all "street ball" now. Yaaaawwwwwwnnn.
- briguymaine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'm not a huge sports on tv fan but yeah, that was pretty awesome.
- Cowmin, on 10/12/2007, -20/+0I'm surprised losers on digg watch sports
- musicaltech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Says someone posting on digg...
WTF? - ndurkes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Your on digg...
- musicaltech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Says someone posting on digg...
- RatTrap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow that's was freaking awesome.

More reaction / ending / tear-jerkery.- dmitriyvoz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I liked your article. The author has like a problematics of the chosen theme which shows all sense of given article.
Can look my sites which open the mentioned problems in Russian: http://www.rolid.net http://www.se-ua.com
- dmitriyvoz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I liked your article. The author has like a problematics of the chosen theme which shows all sense of given article.
- MikeSobe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37That was very entertaining, but I still say that the end of this football game is better. (The one team was down 41-17 with 3 minutes to go) Also I was laughing my ass off at the end.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZHkABO0VwCg
Reggie Miller's 8 points in 11 seconds was also quite amazing.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/espn25/story?page=moments/90- emericle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I absolutely love the announcers in the Plano game (first link) - anytime I'm having a bad day, I just listen to those announcers, and they are like a friggin ray of sunshine. They absolutely kill me
That and the game had the most theatric ending ever. It's the stuff that makes Disney jealous. - dinobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, the Plano East vs John Tyler is a classic case of schadenfreude~
- triscuitbiscuit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That was crazy... Plus I did not even expect that ending. What a heartbreak
- sinurgy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Plano East vs. John Tyler is BY FAR the most shocking ending in sports. To say the final 3 minutes of the game is improbable is a massive understatement!!! I mean, that doesn't even happen on Xbox much less real life.
If you've bothered reading this thread, do yourself a favor watch this video. If you're not shocked, you're retarded!!!!!
- emericle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I absolutely love the announcers in the Plano game (first link) - anytime I'm having a bad day, I just listen to those announcers, and they are like a friggin ray of sunshine. They absolutely kill me
- mikenuyten, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0they got sloppy in the end; they thought they had it, wups! That was an intense finish though! I've played in competitive games were that close in the end! The adrenaline rocks!
- overstim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1THE most shocking? wow, dont watch a lot of sports, huh?
- beatphats, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@mikesobe
Still heartbreaking to me
http://youtube.com/watch?v=YtPaMgyz4ec - ekleinunt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Awesome moment, but the best in 100+ years of sports history? Doubtful.
- usajag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed - I can think of plenty other crazy endings better than this..1980 Miracle on Ice comes to mind.
Also - that Barton player obviously has no trust in his teammates...great player, but a huge ball hog.
- usajag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed - I can think of plenty other crazy endings better than this..1980 Miracle on Ice comes to mind.
- coltrane68, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Great ending. Terrific to watch. A bit hard to believe. But the most shocking in sports history? There are a lot of sports. And history encompasses quite a long time period. Someone needs to check his hyperbole, I think.
- bigdt87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Note: dont glance at the description on youtube, it says the winner in the first sentence.
anyway, that was amazing. that atkinson fellow...talk about a coaches dream.- 60effects, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yeah, that spoiled it for me. Way to ruin the surprise element of your own clip. He could've at least mentioned the winner after the 'more' tag.
- benita316, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33Not even close
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMV_gvBwL1g- SaxxonPike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Holy *****!
That one was on the news a couple years ago, I think. I recall seeing it. - Adma1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That one needs its own digg post for sure, watch this friggin video people.
- Lochie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ok, THAT is the best.
- SaxxonPike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Holy *****!
- LiquidChimera, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Well since everyone else is doing it
http://youtube.com/watch?v=PATkYHF1dEU - DrewBledsoe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7meh, its not even close to the 2004 red sox
- dinobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Amen to that!
- beatphats, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Say his name...
http://youtube.com/watch?v=AgT5_9IaeRo - dinobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@beatphats
Curse of Clay Bellinger!
Seriously, you guys got owned, of all teams, by the marlins... and then got beat up by a guy with a wooden peg for a leg the next year, so shut up - FryedGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Definitely. This game was amazing, but not the most shocking in sports history. Red Sox come back to win four after being down to their arch rivals...yeah, that's a comeback.
- dinobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Everyone is posting Reggie Miller, it almost feel like a copy pasta flood in /b/
- xlar54, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1OMG that was cool!
...not really... - Arch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!
(Oh sorry, wrong sport.) - SuperiorKarsch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Love watching these comeback clips, especially in basketball or baseball...
In hockey you just have to watch a game where the Leafs are winning...- PedleZelnip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Only when they're playing Buffalo, and when Raycroft's in net... :)
- SuperiorKarsch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha, 4 unanswered goals that was almost as great as four years ago when they were up five nothing going into the third with the Blues.
St Louis 6 Maple Leafs 5.
- Rikushix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Holy crap, that was intense.
- stevenothing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'm not that shocked after watching that.
- SanTe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am. That's gotta be the worst free throw shooting I've ever seen, by both teams.
- underwise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6you havent watched shaq have you
- vsujohn2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What makes this story even crazier is how close each of Barton's games were in the D2 Tournament and how Atkinson single-handedly won it for them...
Winning 3 games by a combined 5 points
83-81 in Overtime against Grand Valley State on a 3 at the buzzer by Atkinson
80-79 Cal State-San Bernadino, 2 FT from Atkinson. - aydoubleyou, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1that is one amazing basketball player. wow.
- Surfer51, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now this is what sports is all about! I love it. More please...
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Also, if no one has the proper frame of reference, let it be known that the Winona State Warriors were undefeated the entire season (and more) until the last few seconds of this game.
- wego, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow that made basketball look 30x more exciting than it really is lol
- crossmr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2A buzzer beater in basketball? I've never seen that before. Its not remotely shocking.
- xjeffx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1friggen awesome
- Sonix3D, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0incredible
- eliotmat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The title is extremely exaggerated, but dugg nonetheless. Cool clip.
- unsharp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For Red Sox fans, which I'm not part of, Bill Buckners' boot in 1986 was much more shocking. If this game was during the season, or not on CBS, nobody would of cared. Good sportscenter moment, that's all.
- handler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hardlly the most shocking, I can think of at least 10 other basketball endings more shocking. Amazing game nonetheless.
Check out the Mavs and Suns game 2 weeks ago.
Or the Rockets and Spurs game 2 years ago when Tracy McGrady scores 13 points in 40 seconds to win the game. - merdiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Awesome clip... That Atkinson kid is like a mini Allen Iverson...
but theres no way I would call that the most shocking ending in sports history..
"The band is on the field! The band is on the field!" is IMO one of the most shocking endings.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=WgZvkB_i0xc - gModo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2cant forget Liverpool's amazing comeback in the 05 champion's league to win it on penalties,
wrong crowd i guess though- dedeSwiss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this comeback was amazing!!!!
i'm still pissed @ ManU's comeback against Bayern Munich in an older Champions' League Final....
- dedeSwiss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0this comeback was amazing!!!!
- jonjon602, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiy59lXkw0s
this one... and its not even close- pittpat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I just love watching Adam Morrison cry like a ***** baby at the end!
- steveabb1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"The Most Shocking Ending in Sports History...."
Hardly...
Yes, a very unlikely comeback, but being down 10+ with about a minute left has happened. This is being down by 7 with 45 seconds left. - ChiefofSages, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Here's another one: Saints comeback run ends with a missed PAT.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=zmzTZ35Hn-c - ncaa76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is the best of year, maybe ever!

By the way me cousin is Ian Johnson #41
I was at this game, I still get the chills seeing this; I will never forget that day! - Psxtreme, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wrong Section. Buried.
- cam18, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it's a basketball video in the basketball section...what the hell are you talking about?
