American Apparel Sued For Rocking with Their Socks Out
laist.com — Dov Charney is an ass: a civil trial begins in Los Angeles tomorrow between former employee Mary Nelson, an American Apparel sales manager, and the clothing company founder. The specific claim? Charney had a meeting with her wearing only a sock over his crotch, and fired her when she said she would be talking to a lawyer.

There are also a new line of Hanes tees that are very soft, stlyish, have easy-remove tags and are made in Mexico. a lot of customers who used AA have switched to these, they are a lot cheaper and of a similar quality. not sure what the track record is like sweatshop wise, but I'm assuming since it's mexico it's not too hideous.
- johnpaul191, on 01/09/2008, -0/+1It's better than a 3rd world country, but Mexico is not downtown Los Angeles. Cost of labor is a fraction of the USA, and the workers are not nearly as protected as they are here.
On a personal side, AA stuff fits me better than any other brand. They seem to be the only company that makes stuff long enough for me. being 6'6" and wearing medium shirts means that most every other brand is too short. in the sleeves or body.
I have heard the owner is a jerk, but i guess the unfortunate reality is the lesser of evils? is his jerkatude better than his equivalent at a 3rd world sweatshop? do those sweatshop workers have the ability to sue, or could they realistically quit the ***** job and hope to find something better? could they go complain to a newspaper or blog about it? i'm not justifying his actions, but the textile world has gone to ***** in the last 50 years. i know because my father was involved in it (he designed and built textile machines) from pre-WW2 till about 10 years ago when he died. he watched the jobs slowly move to Puerto Rico, then on the other side of the globe. he was in the business when there were whole towns built around thriving textile mills. some of them today look like the old steel mill towns, but with cooler buildings. totally depressing.

ROFLMAO! Behind you allright, right up your ass! - gambyt13, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Sounds like he really put his sock in his mouth. The real question is, was it an ankle sock, tube sock or over the knee?
- Blacksail, on 01/08/2008, -11/+8I work at American Apparel - Apparently Dov does funny crap like this all the time.
Regardless of the weird stuff he does, you can not deny his business savvy. American Apparel is blowing up. - colberrep, on 01/08/2008, -4/+9it is well known he bangs all the models there. lucky bloke.
- victrola, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Are you an american apparrel spammer?
Anyway, models sleeping with rich guys isn't news. It is well-known models bamg all the rich guys they want.
- victrola, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Are you an american apparrel spammer?
- ninsei, on 01/08/2008, -4/+11Everyday I feel more justified in never shopping there. Their amateur porn poster ads have always been a bit creepy http://americanapparel.net/gallery/photocollection ...
- DarkSamus, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1there was a big ass poster of a hot chick on houston street, the photo never looked normal
- Blacksail, on 01/08/2008, -4/+2Although I'm sure you'd have no problem buying Tom Fords new Cologne...
Terry Richardson makes Dov Charney and AA's ad campaigns look like Bible Camp recruitment posters. - signal15, on 01/08/2008, -3/+4Really? I happen to like their ads.
- leerayIG88, on 01/08/2008, -7/+3Whooo! Rock and Sock United, WWF Lives!

- FredFredrickson, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1The article didn't mention them...
- GoingToShibuya, on 01/08/2008, -4/+12A few weeks ago I went to the American Apparel factory for the sale. Dov was walking around and talking to the various people in line. While I didn't get to talk to him much, only a few words, he seemed like a pretty nice guy. But yeah, I am sure he's a *****, much like Steve Jobs... that's CEOs for you.
- victrola, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Public relations events usually require CEO's to be on their best behavior.
- FreeBadAdvice, on 01/08/2008, -4/+15FTA: In a deposition, Charney "absolutely" admits to calling women "sluts" and the female genitalia c-word..."
Let me get this straight: this site will say ***** socks, sluts, bitches, whores, but when it comes time to say ***** they lose their balls? It's not even a graceful censoring of the word! Could "the female genitalia c-word" sound any more childish? The least I am willing to accept is "That one word women act like they're offended by, because they're told to hate it by other women, but they're fine hearing pussy, snatch, and ***** is what Charney conjectured women to be." - adamroach, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6Let's just say the meeting didn't go as planned.
- yaryarhumphump, on 01/08/2008, -1/+7Business meeting.... at his house...... with a boss that freely admits to sexual relations with his staff, and uses many "enduring terms"
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa right something doesn't sound right here, I'm sure she had all the reason to think it was purely professional.- victrola, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1So, you're blaming the victim? Maybe she needed the JOB. If she wanted to be treated like a protitute, she could make a lot more money.
