Craig (of the List) Looks Beyond the Web
nytimes.com — Imagine what it might have been like to be Dr. Kleenex. You invent a modern miracle, the cheap paper handkerchief, and suddenly you become the person blamed for America ’s disposable culture, praised for a more convenient life, or both.

- cowsgonemadd3, on 05/12/2008, -3/+4Fine you pay retail value for your car and anything else you buy and soon as you "use" it then you take the value loss while the thrifty people will buy a nice used item in good condition for cheap on the craigslist. There is no reason to fear used. Just make sure its good and your fine. I guess your scared of ebay too?
- Lyph5, on 05/12/2008, -5/+1Considering how eBay is 90% scammers, you should be scared of it. Owning new is more than being afraid of used, though. It's about it being YOUR car or YOUR PS3, knowing that nobody else beat on it before you got it. Knowing it was treated well.
- basotl, on 05/12/2008, -0/+6After BoonTobias's comment I thought Gir53457 was making a joke about finding a second hand wife that has been abused a little...

- akatherder, on 05/12/2008, -0/+6Jonas Salk was such a bitch. All he did was cure polio. One lousy-ass disease? C'mon.
- Lyph5, on 05/12/2008, -2/+2Creating a website and CURING POLIO are two very very very different things.
- akatherder, on 05/12/2008, -1/+1The original posted was saying that when it comes to websites, we shouldn't care about Craig Newmark because he only created one good site.
I couldn't agree more. Similarly, in the realm of biological science we shouldn't give any respect or credence to Jonas Salk because he only cured one measly disease.
- akatherder, on 05/12/2008, -1/+1The original posted was saying that when it comes to websites, we shouldn't care about Craig Newmark because he only created one good site.

- weeeezzll, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1It's not like he created a website and he is spouting off about world peace, or a cure for cancer, he is talking about a subject that is directly related to what his company does a very well. That is why you should listen...
- BN2L, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1You don't have to care its just an interesting article
- DeadlyCouncil, on 05/12/2008, -2/+2Bah, for newspaper classifieds to have even half the (I don't want to say wonderful) stuff you can find on CL, they'd have to be the size of sunday papers...

- vic42482, on 05/12/2008, -1/+6Craigslist - it doesn't reject anybody even if you're really really creepy http://thermalreaction.blogspot.com/2008/05/craigs ...
- xtinamo, on 05/12/2008, -0/+10A company whose goal isn't to make exorbitant amounts of money is an anomaly. Ebay needs to just ***** off and search their auctions for a soul.
- BoonTobias, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3i'm currently the hightest bidder
- thingnumber2, on 05/12/2008, -1/+11The reason newspapers are declining I think is more due to the fact that information has become so much more easily accessible than by purchasing a newspaper, Craigslist is a great example. Why would I, growing up in this new era of information, purchase a newspaper when I could find the same information online, or on TV, with little to no inconvience and a plethora of additional content not available in a newspaper?
- uziko, on 05/12/2008, -8/+3WHAT THE ***** DOES GROWING UP IN THE ERA OF INFORMATION HAVE TO DO WITH GETTING INSTANT CLASSIFIEDS FOR FREE VERSUS PAYING FOR SOME RETARD ***** CLASSIFIED AD
Oh I forget if you are "in" the information age but you didn't "grow up" in it then you aren't allowed to use it.
DUGG DOWN GOD- thingnumber2, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1The way you responded rather than the content of your response means I will not address your statement. I'm sure though that you didn't intend for it to be addressed.
- Caviarmy, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2If you digg down god you're going to hell

- uncertain, on 05/12/2008, -2/+2Newspapers are sinking because they don't report news anymore; they slant it. I got sick of reading their bias years ago and cancelled my subscription. On the internet you get all opinions; not just those in one direction. Then you can make up your own mind.
- CRCulver, on 05/12/2008, -1/+1You think newspapers only recently started slanting? Good Lord. Have you never seen a newspaper from a century ago? The common news coverage was more in your face with opinion than the op-ed of any newspaper today.
- RikkiTikki, on 05/12/2008, -0/+2Craigslist is the simplest, yet most ingenious website out there That and the original Google search bar page.
- uziko, on 05/12/2008, -7/+2who the ***** would use a newpaper classified ad?
i guess this is from the same crowd that buys from bestbuy
wtf? - blackturtleus, on 05/12/2008, -0/+3Newspaper is still great for lining the bottom of the bird cage!
- soupnrc, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1"It has a staff of 25"
Not that this is news or anything... but I just thought about that....
They are rich suckers. Even the "small fees" for job listings and real estate brokers that's somewhere between $80-$100mil a year between 25 people.... Granted, some of that goes back into the company and the lawers and everything that comes with a business, but that's still pretty insane. Most companies making MILLIONS aren't under 30 people. - Action54, on 05/12/2008, -0/+1Craigslist is such an awesome company. It's crazy I cant believe that one of the biggest tools I use and the 7th most visited site in the US is ran by only 25 people. That's amazing. They must be ballin too. 80-100 million per year...lol.
- mindmillionaire, on 05/15/2008, -0/+0I like how the Craiglist is helping internet marketers.
