- MissPinkKate, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4So completely sketchy! Shame on them!
- brainwidth, on 01/01/2008, -0/+5As the comments in that MetaTalk thread reveal, there appears to be plenty of other slimy business going on at GiveWell, including ripping off an Australian organization with the same name, and astroturfing blogs like LifeHacker and BoingBoing.

- Rotzooi, on 01/01/2008, -0/+10MeFi is fantastically funny and AskMeFi incredibly informative. Digg is like MeFi's big brother with down syndrome.

- Pareidoliatic, on 01/02/2008, -0/+3Jerks like this scammer are precisely why people become so cynical about charitable organizations. You can make your views known about this despicable type of exploitative behaviour on their blog.
http://blog.givewell.net/ - Wotan, on 01/02/2008, -0/+1For those without the time or stamina to read the entire thread, a summarization of events is taking shape in the Metafilter Wiki. (http://mssv.net/wiki/index.php/Givewell#Atreides_- ... I do recommend the thread though for a great read. It's got everything: scandal, detective work, confession, bribery, and some insightful discussion of philanthropy, and the morality and perils of internet marketing.
- mmhoffman, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Story in the New York Magazine Blog: http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2008/01/hedgefunders_ ...
- lizhenry, on 01/05/2008, -0/+1They're astoundingly incompetent astroturfers. Maybe from this whole expose they'll learn how to do it better next time.
- iamkimiam, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1The story in the NY Mag blog is ridiculous fluff and undermines the seriousness of what has occurred here. It also subtly dismisses the Metafilter community as a bunch of "kids" with flippant opinions and foul-language–which is really funny when you think about who the younguns really are. And don't those kids just say the darndest things?
