Subprime crisis II: Student loan edition
blogs.moneycentral.msn.com — The front-page headline in Sunday's Seattle Times was an attention-grabber: "Young, educated and drowning in debt." One med-school couple will finish with over $500k in loans. between them. Monthly payments on $152k eat up 1/3 of one grad's salary - and he has a good job. Gargantuan loans with no clear idea how they'll be repaid. Sound familiar?

- kurtwinter, on 10/06/2008, -0/+2This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has gone anywhere near a higher education institute in the last 15 years. Tuition has been climbing much faster than inflation, and grants have remained stagnant. Add to that stagnant wage growth, in most cases decline, and you get a looming disaster.
