Viacom seeks to deflect YouTube heat in copyright case
tech.blorge.com — As YouTube users continue to protest over privacy fears, Viacom has promised it won ’t try to identify individual users from the logs it has secured as part of its copyright suit against Google. The broadcast group put out a statement saying it is not interested in getting any personally identifiable information.

Anyone? - billbugger, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Not Good Enough.
- Pottypotsworth, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2I still cannot get over how the judge could allow Viacom this information full stop. Its a massive problem when traditional judges may not realise the implications in cases involving technology.
- treelovinhippie, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2I agree the judge has no idea how valuable this information is and how well it can be abused if in the wrong hands.
Potentially Viacom can analyse every single video you've ever watched on Youtube, including all your ratings and comments... run the data through a system and spit-out very personal information about your likes/dislikes/interests/behaviour/social-interactions etc etc. They could then run highly-targeted online marketing campaigns back at you to manipulate you into buying a particular product or thinking a particular way.
Horrible.
