15 Ways They Could Get People to Actually Watch TV Again
cracked.com — Our generation spends more time on the internet and gaming then they do just about everything else. Hell, you're probably on the internet right now. As a result, ratings are down all over, so the question is, what would the networks have to do to get us to watch again? Some ideas, courtesy of the generation they're losing.

- CCunitz, on 09/11/2008, -15/+485The #1 entry was such a let-down.
- OneLess, on 09/11/2008, -3/+33You could plug almost any of the others in there and have a better number one. Personally my #1 was "Hannity & Godzilla". That might actually tempt me into watching Faux News, especially if violence were promised.
- Scrappy1850, on 09/11/2008, -0/+10unless someone gave hanity the oxygen bomb. thats the only thing that ever killed godzilla.
- chrissku, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2I'm with you. If there was even an iota of chance for Sean Hannity to get his head bitten off by a monster I would watch Hannity & Colmes every night on Faux News.
- OneLess, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5Who would give Hannity the oxygen bomb? Even his producers probably think he's a dick.
- Fhwqhgads, on 09/11/2008, -0/+45It always is.
- xlneoMAXlx, on 09/11/2008, -3/+24***** Mac
- moraldebate, on 09/11/2008, -4/+17Because by Cracked standards, you've already read three pages of ads so they don't really need you anymore. In every single Cracked list - the first two are always the best.
- Inohavehalos, on 09/11/2008, -0/+22Remember the old "how to make a cracked entry"
one of them was "make the last entry not funny"
I have no idea why they would do this.- Kmartian21, on 09/12/2008, -2/+1I think the guy above you nailed it on the head
- zarcu, on 09/11/2008, -1/+3Yes it was. But its so true.
- eigenweasel, on 09/11/2008, -0/+7I was more concerned about where the guy who made #2 'found' a picture of a man holding a knife to an old lady's throat.
I doubt that's in the MS Office ClipArt collection, - ligyron, on 09/12/2008, -2/+1It was the only one I laughed at
- blarch, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1maybe if tv's were more like computers, or if American Idol were more like this

- nothugo, on 09/11/2008, -0/+7Don't forget Summer Glau
- oblivionatm, on 09/11/2008, -12/+164Number 11 all the way!! Fox should just be eliminated from modern entertainment altogether. They just cancel all the good shows and then run the same ones for 20 years (Simpsons). If fox and fox news, of course, were taken off the air permanently, I'd watch a lot more TV.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/11/2008, -1/+85So you'd watch more TV if they removed the Fox networks, even though you can still avoid them altogether now?
- oblivionatm, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Yes, because it would mean the good shows (still being made hopefully) would have to air elsewhere and probably not get canned. I mean, why not go to CBS? all they have is CSI, they'll air anything at this point.
- smartcause, on 09/11/2008, -1/+16To be fair, they gave 3 seasons to a show that was never successful. To quote Micheal Bluth "Maybe people just don't like us." Which is sad because Arrested Development was awesome.
- tiberone, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4How dare you. Where do you get off?
- Gizza, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Would've helped if they marketed it.
- Sylocat, on 09/12/2008, -0/+0The reason it was never successful was because FOX actively killed any efforts to market it.
- kyle212, on 09/11/2008, -2/+5Prison Break!

No thanks.
- IllBeBack, on 09/11/2008, -6/+1Yeah, right. Terminator for Women.
- Scriabin, on 09/11/2008, -0/+6The reason why they cancel the good shows and keep showing the crappy ones, is because most people out there are numbskulls, and don't watch good shows. It's all reflected in the ratings, and the profit that comes from it, and all fox really cares about with its shows is profit, not quality. It's the dumbing down of modern culture that's forcing decent television off of the air, not fox.
- EtherGnat, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Not to mention now all the smart people are skipping commercials, which just means we'll see even more dumb shows.
- aceman87, on 09/11/2008, -1/+4House!
- SkippyDoorknob, on 09/11/2008, -1/+85So you'd watch more TV if they removed the Fox networks, even though you can still avoid them altogether now?
- ibrahimcesar, on 09/11/2008, -4/+211Dugg for #11
- shakabrah, on 09/11/2008, -1/+31before i realized that the 15 ways were all going to be jokes, my only thought was bring back arrested development. and don't blame the networks for axing good shows with poor ratings, their job is to make money. instead, blame the stupid people who prefer to watch american idol instead of good, smart tv.
- leif77, on 09/11/2008, -0/+8Its the time slot that doomed them. If they want success they need to schedule new shows in the simpson's slot. Everyone already knows about the simpson's. Use that time as a launching pad for new good shows.
- Sylocat, on 09/12/2008, -1/+0"Don't blame the networks?" The only reason Arrested Development had no viewers was because FOX actively killed any efforts to stir up interest in it. They refused to market it and kept jerking the time slot around.
- tenspeedogbb, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1"prefer to watch american idol instead of good, smart tv."
But I like Skating With Celebrities....
- virtuousvagrant, on 09/11/2008, -0/+13Also Dugg for #11.

- plokij909, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Seriously, why can't Fox learn from Family Guy's success story... bring it back!
- botanist, on 09/11/2008, -1/+50is it just me or are these user-generated lists normally out of order? I tend to find the ones with lower ranks funnier (and better pshops in general) than the top 10 or so. *shrugs* maybe it's just me.
- specialK16, on 09/11/2008, -14/+2These are not User Generated.
- ultraseamus, on 09/11/2008, -0/+22Makes sense to put their best stuff at the top, they will not draw readers in by showing their worst stuff first. As for the user generated contests, I usually find that my favorites are in the middle of the pack.
- aereaus, on 09/11/2008, -11/+19#7 definitely! I've been thinking a Gladiator show using people on Death Row, would be very popular.
- forcedfx, on 09/11/2008, -0/+21A la Running Man.
- Hoogs, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15And the winner would get life in prison.
- aereaus, on 09/11/2008, -0/+10and a Playstation in their cell.
- xL0Sx, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3and a Toaster Oven for Hot Pockets and Totino's Pizza rolls.
- Cloud7654, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3Hot Pockets? We're trying to reward them, not kill th......oh, I see.
- teotbote, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15Reminds me of George Carlin's idea about a 24 hour suicide channel with terminally ill volunteers.
- atgmac, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3What a capital idea!
- thegrantman, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2A pearl before swine.
- mikeevegas, on 09/11/2008, -1/+1Or maybe they could just have those inmates race cars! (what a terrible movie)
- kailash079, on 09/11/2008, -4/+6dugg for thumbnail
- ycohain, on 09/11/2008, -2/+90Survivor Bronx was the best. I just had did the NY century bike ride and got a flat in the Bronx. A guy walking by said to me: "if you stopping, you better be stopping in White Plains, not here, boy." I felt like saying "no *****" - I changed my flat and got out ASAP.
- phorty40, on 09/11/2008, -3/+1yeah, the bronx will always be *****.
- gymbrall, on 09/11/2008, -0/+11Please leave the bronx. You will all be provided with comfortable accommodations in New Mexico. I repeat leave the bronx. No harm will come to you.
- aereaus, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Yeah Rio Rancho! Filled with former New Yorkers.
- yohnstoppable, on 09/11/2008, -1/+13Heh, reminds me of a friend who stopped at a gas station in east st louis. Went inside to by a drink, and as he went in, this guy yells out "oh *****! Dead white boy coming through!" He immidiately turned around and left. Wish I could have seen the look on his face
- tiberone, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15*****, East St. Louis? Seriously? I don't care how little gas you have, push the damn car across the river if you want to live.
- Tanze, on 09/11/2008, -0/+23"Dead white boy coming through!". wow east st. louis sounds like it sucks
- Elranzer, on 09/11/2008, -0/+9^^ This is why Oregon is great.
- ObieOnce, on 09/11/2008, -0/+7Well most of Oregon. Go up to North Portland sometime, or the lovingly named Felony Flats on the east side.
- xieodeluxed, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3I guess I should feel lucky to not have been exposed to that kind of thing, but I'd have to say I'm very curious... just as long as I don't become another statistic. :)
- bxblox, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4Ive lived in the bronx my entire life and most of the fear is just from the left over reputation of the 80's. There are good and bad neighborhoods and plenty of white american, african american, carribean, italian, irish and of other ethnicity living next to each other with no problems.
- charlatantric, on 09/11/2008, -13/+44Hmm, I thought I had a couple pretty good entries that were worthy of making the list...
http://www.charlatantric.com/pics/1vs100.jpg
http://www.charlatantric.com/pics/mythb.jpg
http://www.charlatantric.com/pics/jennings.jpg- MicahT0078, on 09/11/2008, -1/+23Ok, the Peter Jennings things was a bit off but I have to say, how long do you really think it will be before Myth Busters actually do go there? It has been over five years. My bet is that those two guys think it is three years over due. Overall, good stuff though.
- tidu, on 09/11/2008, -1/+13I loved the 1 vs. 100 one
- hughesco, on 09/11/2008, -1/+4Mythbusters!
- Seth024, on 09/11/2008, -2/+3I don't get the last one, but the first two were great!
- skidooer, on 09/11/2008, -6/+2He's digging his own grave.
- Jb611, on 09/11/2008, -1/+2He's dead. They dugg him up just to cover the election. Pretty straight forward.
- zip000, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5Oh, yeah - I forgot that he died.
- evanbooth, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3I hear that the Mythbusters have been wanting to tackle 9/11, but it's a question of funding/time to turn around the myth (they have 7 days for each show).
- IllBeBack, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Make it a 2 or 3-parter...
- aereaus, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1They would probably have to tow the "offical" line or they'll loose their jobs or sponsor funding. Now if they did a full Mythbusters movie! Then they might get away with telling the truth.
- pault107, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1What's the real story behind the 1 vs 100 photo? Why is one guy getting ***** up by all the others? Maybe I'm late to the the party, but I haven't seen that photo before.
- charlatantric, on 09/11/2008, -3/+21 vs. 100 is a trivia quiz show, pitting one person against 100. I think more people would watch if those were the terms for an all-out brawl.
- pault107, on 09/11/2008, -0/+3Yeah, I realise that. I was asking what's happening in the photo.
- charlatantric, on 09/11/2008, -0/+2Oh, no idea. I picked it off google images when I searched for "riot fight" or something like that. I think it was linked to an article on racism.
- aereaus, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Yeah the guy getting beaten is black.
- Telping, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Riots in Sydney, Australia December '05

- tidu, on 09/11/2008, -1/+7Naked Maury Povich?
NO THANKS- phorty40, on 09/11/2008, -0/+12LOL. i saw that and was said DO NOT WANT out loud....
...and im at work, very awkward - 11oops, on 09/11/2008, -0/+6That would be better than naked Price is Right. Just imagine -- an audience pan of all the fat, old, trailer park housewives getting overly excited and jumping up and down. And that would also mean naked fat Drew Carey or shriveled Bob Barker standing center screen.
- tidu, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5The only reason I didn't say the price is right is because of the overly excited college girls that jump up and down which makes even Clothed The Price is Right a treat.
- phorty40, on 09/11/2008, -0/+12LOL. i saw that and was said DO NOT WANT out loud....
- Elranzer, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1Not Oprah
- tidu, on 09/11/2008, -1/+7Naked Maury Povich?
- diggit08, on 09/11/2008, -3/+233Arrested Development Season 4 FTW!
- Donnshin, on 09/11/2008, -0/+6Amen! Can't wait for the movie.
- tiberone, on 09/11/2008, -3/+4Michael Cera said he wouldn't do a movie if they tried to make one, so better get used to waiting...
- wpc33, on 09/11/2008, -1/+10Well ***** him, then.
Movie. - morphinapg, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5But.. we need hot cousin on cousin action ;)
- kaykfrink, on 09/12/2008, -0/+4Wait, why doesn't Michael Cera want to do a movie for the series that launched him? Does he not want to play an awkward sensitive teen in Arrested Development just so he can go play an awkward sensitive teen in some other movie?
- ben_nushmut, on 09/11/2008, -0/+17Except Fox would never say "We're Sorry". Only something like "It's back" or the like. Cause they're a bunch of pussies, really.
- Donnshin, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1I read that he was going to reprise his role, but didn't want to. I wonder why? Maybe he felt he outgrown the show?
- Donnshin, on 09/11/2008, -0/+6Amen! Can't wait for the movie.

Naked cooking with Paula Deen? No thanks.- urgeigh, on 09/11/2008, -0/+6I think Rachel Ray naked would ruin it. I guarantee she has ugly pancake boobs.
- PReitz, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1It pretty much doesn't matter who it is, I would watch that show just for the entertainment of it....especially if they were cooking something like bacon. It would just be fun to watch.
- clark27799, on 09/11/2008, -0/+0Dammit they forgot the naked martha stewart show...*shakes head* ill never be able to sleep now lol

- rolf, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2I don't expect ala cart any time soon, but I think you'll get some of what you want online at the website (dailyshow/colbert report -> comedy central) while others are coming.
I hate watching any TV in the meantime because the stations manage to put their during-show ads in the most annoying places and at the worst times (interfering with subtitles and all that).
- BXRWXR, on 09/11/2008, -8/+128Bring back Firefly.
- sgpope, on 09/11/2008, -4/+3Anybody we can talk to about that?
- vashth3stampede, on 09/11/2008, -2/+17It's a shame I can digg that comment only once.
- Hooloovoo, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15Another one we can blame Fox for.

- kyzel, on 09/11/2008, -2/+6Anyone who doesn't want real gladiator matches complete with lions, tigers, and 20 man swordfights is a liar! The least they could do is fake it and edit the killing etc into it...
- aereaus, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2As I said Death Row Gladiators. It's costing tax payers 50K a year each to keep'um locked up. Lets watch them fight for their supper.

- geoff1210, on 09/11/2008, -0/+1***** YOU SCI-FI.
***** YOU. - Ne007, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1I've watched every ep of stargate atlantis and I can say that recently it has been boring and predictable.
I have to say that Stargate Universe better get new writers and directors or even it will be very very predictable to people who have watch all of SG1 and Atlantis.
Atlantis's demise has been very few first encounters with new beings...it was always the wraith...never anything new to twist the story. It's strange that I'm actually glad that it has been canceled.....
- OasisR123, on 09/11/2008, -8/+1so, the deletion of Stargate should be called StargateGate, right?
- wiggles, on 09/11/2008, -1/+4Don't worry -- there's going to be a new Stargate series next year.

- Divals, on 09/11/2008, -2/+20I'd watch TV if they'd stop canceling all the shows I like. Farscape, Stargate SG1/Atlantis, Firefly, Family Guy (though they brought it back), Invader Zim, Dark Angel... It's only a matter of time until the Sarah Connor Chronicles goes poof.
/bitter- yaddayaddayoda, on 09/11/2008, -0/+11The other thing they could try is STOP HAVING A 6 MONTH HIATUS in the middle of a season. This new year-round-ratings thing sucks.
- InfernoX, on 09/12/2008, -0/+3Oh yeah, pissed me off when they did that with BSG season 4. I'm still waiting... :(
- geoff1210, on 09/11/2008, -0/+5Stargates are gone now, man sci-fi is headed downhill with only shows like ECW and Ghost Hunters left.
My hope lies with sister station USA, who has Psych, Monk, Burn Notice, House... - PabloIV, on 09/11/2008, -2/+2Dark Angel was terrible, and I was really trying to like it.
- Ne007, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1What about invasion and Blade...and others my tired brain can't think of right now?
I don't watch any shows until they have been picked up for season 2...then I download the whole first season with bittorrent and watch it straight through.
I'm sick of cancellations! And if they don't give shows like Lost and Prison Break suitable endings before they are scrubbed, I may not watch any tv shows anymore. - aereaus, on 09/12/2008, -0/+1Start watching Fringe before it too gets canceled.
- Sylocat, on 09/12/2008, -0/+0Not to mention Action, and Veronica Mars.
On the other hand, Dollhouse looks pretty sweet. But since it's on FOX, it'll get canceled too.

- 6shot, on 09/11/2008, -0/+19I dugg you, but then I remembered those hot models that hold up stuff. That's totally worth it.
- BSDaemon, on 09/11/2008, -0/+15Just have naked price is right models... not the contestants. :D

- sk11, on 09/11/2008, -1/+6Nothing can save the conventional tv model, the internet will inevitably envelope it.
- vectoor, on 09/11/2008, -0/+4dugg for being soo right
- ScarabLordCoral, on 09/11/2008, -2/+0Buried for being a complete retard. It will never die. Nothing can replace the ease of kicking back on your couch, picking up the remote and scrolling through channels with the flick of a thumb. Nice try, moron.
- sk11, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2***** off back to your incest ridden flea pit of a broken home you second rate troll.
- SuicideMouse, on 09/12/2008, -0/+2Considering you can do that with a computer right now with whatever downloaded movies/shows you have ...
Yeah, I'd have to say that TV as we know it today won't last long.
Internet TV isn't going to be just siting on your PC watching shows, though I'm sure many will, you'll have a PC (or something) hooked up to your TV. So you'll get the nice couch and the "flick of the thumb"...
I mean, at least that's how I imagine it will be.
