        Well clearly (and, I hope, super-obviously) "nearly everybody" is hyperbole, but I wouldn't have made the joke if didn't have substance behind it, because that would be stereotyping.

        The reason I made that joke is because the three most popular surnames in China are Li, Wang and Zhang, given to about 250 million Chinese. They are the equivalent of Smith, Johnson, and Williams in the US.

        So who's stereotyping? The guy who has the facts, or the guy who says "I don't know any Chinese who are named Wang, so therefore..."

        Just because you are Chinese doesn't mean you're born with knowledge of your culture, and it also clearly doesn't help you against a white dude with Google.
