I see how my comments do under sleep deprivation, just waking up, high, drinking, etc. It's all very interesting, and I encourage each of you to go with the group and digg down comments that have a negative number before you got to it, as most of you did with this one. It's fascinating to watch sheep, especially when they move in unison. I've set up experiments where more or less two of the same comment are made, without people noticing, and depending on the first digg, if someone buries or diggs, the rest of the crowd tends to follow suit.

        Some say this is something that requires mood stabilizers. I've actually been accused of having 'psychotic features'. Mood stabilizers however destroy this wonderful capability to have conversations with myself for my own amusement, and also my ability to laugh off harsh criticism of people who are simply trying to enjoy themselves from people who claim that the one they are insulting is trying to gain favor of the internet, when really the one criticising is just taking the easiest path to getting a higher number next to his poorly thought out comment by posting alongside popular opinion. It's ok, everyone is doing it, I don't blame you. I've noted it is much easier in the mob mentality of digg to say something that goes along with everyone else and get thumbs up and if you say something original, some personal belief that requires intelligent thought, or what have you, you'll tend to either stay around 0 or get buried for being different. It is people of your mindset who are making society boring. If you can't come up with your own original thought, gang up on someone else's so you fit in. Sooner or later we'll all be medicated, and where then will be the quantum ninjas?

Also - the "piety" line is just a cover. Women are forced to wear burqas because men are supposed to go to great lengths to avoid sexual temptation. Islam sexualizes women to an absurd extent, hence the burqa. There are many things the U.S. could benefit from, but adherence to an antiquated religion (Xity, Judaism, Islam, whatever) isn't one of them.

        I dont know what its like in your neighborhood but in my area (a suburb around Boston) middle school girls are dressing trashier and trashier every year! Its actually pretty depressing. Im just saying if people dressed more modestly, it wouldnt be such a bad thing.

        There may not be many Muslims who believe that the niqab is a religious requirement, but there are many women who live with immense social pressure to wear it that operates as the functional equivalent of a requirement. Of course, lots of Muslims do not agree with the interpretations cited in the above links, but that does not disprove that some Muslim women are required to wear a niqab. You might not agree with or like certain parts of Islam, but that does not mean that those beliefs don't exist. I encourage you to stand up for your belief, though, and say that laws requiring the niqab are haram. You sound a bit like many well-intentioned Muslims who prefer to ignore certain interpretations and sects (Wahhabism springs to mind) rather than acknowledge and condemn perversions of their religion.

        Please explain 'Wahabbism'. You are talking to a follower of the Salaf(ra) and the interpretation of the Qur'anic verses is interesting in these articles. I am definitely not saying ANYTHING is haraam, as that is for Allah(swt) alone. I am saying I have yet to see a convincing argument to prove that the niqab is fardh. I feel bad for the women who are beat because of not wearing niqab, as I have never seen a verse which condones that. I am a Muslim who bases his beliefs on the fundamentals of Islam ( the Qur'an and the Sunnah) and I have never heard any of my shaykh try to stand up for the laws of the states of the traitors to Islam (Saudi, Jordan, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, etc) including the law to beat a woman on the street if she doesn't wear niqab. The most hilarious part about it is to go to hajj.. Niqab is pretty rare there.
