- RationalXubrnce, on 02/22/2008, -5/+4 Mossad was arrested outside Manhattan videotaping themselves celebrating in front of the towers. The white van was a huge story in New York that day and then the media learned who was in it and the story has since gone underground known only to 911 buffs. On flight 11 was Daniel Lewin who was a captain in the Sayaret Matkal, Israel's version of SEAL Team 6, they specialize in aircraft hijacks and special forces hostage rescue and work closely with Israeli intelligence. Then You have Zim a company owned by some OG's of the Mossad and often used as a base of operations for current Mossad members conveniently leaving the WTC a week or so before.
I could write about ten paragraphs of similar "coincidences but I think that's enough for now. Google Matt Hale and 911, he wrote a pretty good book about it.

Douche.- rpebble, on 02/22/2008, -11/+43Right. Because the only attacks or violence on their part is against military targets. Just like us in Iraq! It's so clear now! I'm glad I had you to make things so much simpler.
In the REAL world, there is no "right" side in that conflict, neither truly has the moral upper hand, because both have done pretty terrible stuff. This is why true resolutions to the conflict is so far off, why the situation is so difficult. Read a book or two about the history of the conflict, i think you'd learn quite a bit.- WaltDismal, on 02/22/2008, -8/+1No right side. Uhuh. Who is taking land from people and killing them and their children. And who is objecting to having their land taken and their people killed? - GramarNatzi, on 02/22/2008, -10/+28Oh yeah I forgot, Israel are the good guys and palenstinians are the spawn of satan. Anybody who doubts that is an anti-semetic nazi sympathiser and is probably in league with the terrorists.

- GramarNatzi, on 02/22/2008, -0/+2I'm not on anyones 'side'. As rpebble said, neither side is right but both sides are absolutely convinced they are which is what makes this conflict so difficult to resolve. I was having a go at the Israelies simply because living in the UK I am subjected to the western media's heavy bias towards them. That doesn't mean I sympathise with muslim extremeists who take innocent lives.

Yesterday we linked to a disgusting outpouring of hate against President Reagan by "cartoonist" Ted Rall. Today, two readers wrote in to tell us that the link wasn't working; I checked and found that Rall's entire site apparently has been taken down. I haven't seen anything about this elsewhere on the net--in fact, I haven't seen any other blogger point out Rall's sickening tirade--but it appears that Rall may have taken enough heat that he is lying low for the moment. Or maybe it's server trouble or routine maintenance. We'll keep watch on his site.
I didn't keep a screen shot of Rall's sick commentary, but if anyone else did, let us know. I remember some of it, should Rall now be trying to disavow what he wrote.
Meanwhile, Rall is still one of nine editorial cartoonists on the Washington Post's website.
UPDATE: It has nothing to do with President Reagan, but here is Rall's latest cartoon, published today, in which he sets forth his opinion on the September 11 attacks and our response to them:

- Mesmorize, on 02/23/2008, -4/+3Because it's Israel who fired 25,000 rockets a year at the Arabs. Oh, oh wait, actually its the other way around!

- sugarkang, on 02/22/2008, -16/+12yeah they killed americans and that was wrong. its equally wrong for us to be killing them. it could be argued that they wouldn't have attacked us if we hadn't bombed them first. yeah their one little bomb killed 3000 americans. tragic, yes. however, we've killed hundreds of thousands of iraqis.
in other words: accurate.- Thumpa28, on 02/22/2008, -13/+7What alternative version of history do you live in? more importantly do they let you buy a clue?

Iraq had nothing to do with the World Trade Centre attack.
- rollem, on 02/22/2008, -4/+15It's hard to say what the first panel should be, we've been messing around with the middle east for a while now.

- coyote1284, on 02/22/2008, -4/+8*facepalm* Except that in the first pannel, the 2 identical tall buildings are standing, a single different building is destroyed later by a single rocket from the rubble... Something tells me the left side is not USA... (Wait... why am I traying to make sence in Digg??) Ignorant NEO-CON REPUBLITARD!!!
/Do it for the Diggs! - CypherXero, on 02/22/2008, -2/+9In 1953, the United State CIA assassinated the democratically-elected leader of Iran (Mossadeq), and installed a dictatorship (the Shah).
- wpi97, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1It was just a bit more complicated that that. Mossadeq was originally appointed prime minister by the shah. There was a power struggle between the shah and Mossadeq, and the shah fled the country in 1953 and returned less than a month later. So it is not like the US "intalled" the shah, they simply propped him up. And, by the way, Mossadeq was not assassinated. "Dr. Mosaddeq was imprisoned for three years and subsequently put under house arrest until his death."

Not much of a difference, is it?- wpi97, on 02/23/2008, -1/+1House arrest by the shah vs. assassination by the CIA? I'd say there is big difference.

- WaltDismal, on 02/22/2008, -0/+4'liberal moron"? Name-calling is a clear sign of lack of ability to debate on the basis of facts and rationality. For instance, if I said 'your momma blows goats' that would be so wrong. Or 'your momma drank while she was pregnant'. Not that I'm saying that. No.
- scoffey, on 02/22/2008, -1/+4my interpretation was the first three panels were probably representative of our past 50 years of ***** with the Middle East, the single shot hitting one of two towers that look almost like "twins" was their retaliation (9/11, perhaps), and the last two panels were our current, intensified ***** with the Middle East
all in the eye of the beholder, though.. definitely open to multiple interpretations- ReadItAndWeep, on 02/22/2008, -1/+1We have a winner.

Bush hears voices ( God told me to invade Iraq )and invades Iraq. More than 1.000.000 deaths. Innocent

- Maddpaky, on 02/22/2008, -53/+13It's saying that the U.S has been bombing Iraq before 9/11. We'd killed countless beforehand, but after 1 attack from "the enemy", we get offended, and we start bombing them even more.
- Eslamicolt3, on 02/22/2008, -133/+29There is a difference between being against the war, and hating America. There is no other way to interpret the comic. Anyone who thinks we deserved what happened, that we'd been carpet bombing the middle east for the hell of it, has some other issues to deal with. Probably some kid who grew up feeling guilty about how good he had it, and now he sympathizes with murderers because they aren't American.
- arctorkogi, on 02/22/2008, -18/+82Quiet hunny, the grown ups are talking.

- TheFiestyFaun, on 02/22/2008, -5/+18In his defense, the tower that got bombed does look a little like one of the twin towers and the fact that there is an identical tower next to it doesn't help, but this guy is *****' moron.
- jeremyduffy, on 02/22/2008, -5/+9There's two identity towers in a cityscape of tall skyscrapers. Most Americans are going to assume that it's New York since they believe we're the only country in the world with big cities.
- H1tchh1k3r, on 02/22/2008, -1/+7ouch, it hurts because its true
- ReadItAndWeep, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1Actually it is about America/Middle East relations, but it applies equally well to Israel.
- variant5, on 02/22/2008, -8/+26I can't believe people are stupid enough to think this ISN'T about America. If this were about Israel, then you'd think that the skyline would resemble either Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, Israel's largest cities (by population). Last I checked, NEITHER has two towers as depicted and well, you know, aside from the MASSIVE TWIN TOWERS, one of those buildings also looks a lot like the Empire State Building or even the Chrysler Building.
America didn't *deserve* it, but the country wasn't attacked simply because it was sitting passively and holding other countries' hands. - flaknugget, on 02/22/2008, -2/+15"There is no other way to interpret the comic"

Sheesh"- TheCash, on 02/22/2008, -36/+21Because suicide bombers targeting cafes, schools, and buses = Throwing rocks, and military strikes on military installations with little to no collateral damage = running over children with tanks?
Jerk.- etrigan30, on 02/22/2008, -14/+20Sorry..what the *****?
READ A BOOK idiot!! The goverment of Israel does NOT just target military insitutions... they use tanks and gunships to fire into school playgrounds and beaches... usually there is a suspected terrorist their I admit but what about a ***** trial before using the death sentence? and what about the innocent people standing around?
What about Isreal use of collective punishment? (look it up)
What about mossad's use of torture?
What about the fact Israel is a ***** apartheid state?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allegations_of_Israel ... - shodanx, on 02/22/2008, -6/+9little to no collateral ? beirut is a pile of rubble, lebanon's got bombed back to stone age, their economy is back to the 1800s, 1000s dead
tell me this isn't off the scale overreacting ?
what your blaming the underdog to resorting to guerilla warfare, you're blaming them for not just lining themselves up to be massacred in a conventionnal warfare type conflict ? you'd have a point if the arabs had state of the art weaponery, highly trained and motivated troops and intelligences operation in every relevant country to manipulate it's politics, but they don't , they have NONE of that- Aharoni, on 02/22/2008, -0/+2Again, check your story straight. Beirut is not a pile of rubble. The Dahia district, Iranian-funded Hizballah's HQ, is.
Yes, Lebanon's economy was ruined as Israel's arm is much more capable and was able to reach its financial centers. Do you think Hizballah tried to avoid hurting the Israeli civilians? no, Hizballah was TARGETING them. The only reason Israel's economy wasn't affected wasn't because the Hizballah wasn't trying to hurt it. It was because Hizballah only had the ability to fire rockets to the north of Israel while the economic capital of Israel is Gush Dan (Tel Aviv and surrounding cities).
Regarding the "1000s dead" comment, well - when you put rocket launchers in people's houses don't become all enraged when they get blown up to smithereens by the people who are being targeted by these rocket launchers.
You might have not lived with Arabs your entire life but I have. They have a different set of morals. While you and I value life - they value death. Every suicide bomber is a Shahid, a martyr. Every mother whose son died "killing the Israeli infidels" claims that she wishes her other sons to do the same. Since they are aware how sensitive the west is to life - they use it against them. Thats all.
You may find what I write here hateful or even racist, it isn't. Stop making the mistake of thinking that everyone were born in the USA or Europe with the same values you've been grown up on. What you consider compassion and compromise they see as weakness. Life isn't important - LAND is. There are many other examples, many other differences, just like Chinese culture is different than the Western one.
There really is a clash of civilizations, caused by different views. The problem with the west is that it thinks the other civilization sees everything in the same eyes. They don't.
- Aharoni, on 02/22/2008, -0/+2Again, check your story straight. Beirut is not a pile of rubble. The Dahia district, Iranian-funded Hizballah's HQ, is.
- kiwan, on 02/22/2008, -3/+1It's funny that the guy making all the pro-Israel arguments is named TheCash. Big time Jew name if I've ever seen one. Haha.
- etrigan30, on 02/22/2008, -14/+20Sorry..what the *****?
- Aharoni, on 02/22/2008, -26/+52Thank you, people like you are doing a great service to us the Israeli people. The more bigots such as yourself would claim that "Israel is running over their children with tanks", "Israel is poisoning the Palestinians' waters" or "Israel is distributing candies which make Palestinian women horny and slutty", the more you talk out of your ass - just makes OUR point valid.
I was not being sarcastic - but from now on let the sarcasm begin.
This is a very accurate depiction of the situations. You see, Israel just tries to kill the Palestinians all along. Sure, it has nukes, it has the most powerful army in the middle east, yet they are unable to do a simple thing like point-shoot-and-kill everybody. Believe me, if there was a genocide it would already have been long gone. Fact is that all those big bombs you see in the comics are flying towards gaza? those try to hit the bad guys. a.k.a terrorists. The missiles flying from Gaza? those are targeting civilians.
The fact that Palestinian civilians are getting killed is a sad truth, but to expect a war to have no civilian casualties is immature and as possible as the hippie notion that if we all just "drop our guns everything and spread some love, man, everything will be, like, awesome".
Add to that the fact that Hamas, the democratically appointed leaders of Gaza call for the destruction of Israel, genocide on the infidels (that include you, btw) and so forth just goes to show you that THERE IS NO CHANCE OF PEACE. NEVER HAS BEEN, NEVER WILL BE. Get that into your American "I live half across the globe, probably never even met a religious extremist Arab" head.
Is Israel clean as a whistle? no, of course not, not more than America is in Iraq. But it HAS withdrawn from Gaza. What did it get? did the Palestinians took the gesture of peace and lay down their arms? what did Israel get in return? missiles. A lot of missiles. So, Israel should withdrawn - thats ok by you - but if it gets in return missiles - well, thats still ok by you. This isn't being pro-peace, thats just being a racist.
A final word about the occupation, will the original owners PLEASE take these lands back? I'm not talking about the Palestinians, of course. Gaza was originally conquered from the EGYPTIANS and the west bank? JORDANIANS. These guys won't take these lands back even if we paid them.
There was never a Palestinian state, there was never a Palestinian people. Why won't you read some books before you form an opinion solely on the highly biased CNN and BBC (as biased as Fox news, only to the other side).
Go ahead digg me down just because I'm pro Israeli (even worse, I'm an Israeli. Scared yet? look out, I'm going to eat your children for Passover). Anything I said is the truth. But sure, digg up the guy who says Israel runs over children with tanks. Go democratic news sites... you really are... umm, flawed.- oldtactics, on 02/22/2008, -9/+17Uh, no ethnic hatred intended, but just because Israel has withdrawn from Gaza doesn't mean that they're not starving the population to death. Regardless of who has a right to the land, it's still ethnic cleansing.
- Mesmorize, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1You are stupid. Food is allowed in, but thanks for forming un-based opinions again.

- barnett25, on 02/22/2008, -4/+17I am not going to pretend that I know BlackDaniels feelings about people of Jewish decent, but I think you are confused about what racism is.
When you make a comment about something that a government is doing, it is not racism. It may be false or stupid, but not racism.
Now if he said Jews run children over with tanks I would be right with you...- rpebble, on 02/22/2008, -2/+4Bingo.
- SlipperyFox, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1Yeah, because racism in government doesn't exist! 8-s *cough* *cough* apartheid.
- WaltDismal, on 02/22/2008, -6/+11Yeah, Rachael Corrie was a Palestinian bomb-carrying terrorist, right? So it was okay to kill her in cold blood with an IDF bulldozer, running over her, right? What? She wasn't a terrorist? She was a peace protester? Shrug. Oi, my bad. And the UN observer wearing an orange safety vest, he was a stealthy Palestinian bomb-carrier, right? So it was okay for an IDF sniper to shoot him while he was standing in the open, right? Oi, my bad. And it's okay to shoot unarmed small children as long as they're Palestinian, unless a newsman happens to be nearby and catches your act on video for the world to see. Country of foul cowards, thugs, and war criminals.
- yflicker, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Honestly that is such a trifling silly argument. You could sit here all day and name every single Israeli baby killed by Palestinian pigs blowing themselves up. But I guess since the Israeli babies are cowards, thugs and war criminals they deserve to be murdered.
What a lame argument and what idiots for digging you up. - Mesmorize, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Because there are never civilian casualties in war.
Oh- Oh wait you are a ***** retard, nevermind.

- RationalXubrnce, on 02/22/2008, -3/+6 Last I checked the Israel to Palestinine ratio of kills over the last 8 years or so has been 4 to 1.
- yflicker, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Last I checked Jews accounted for about 23% of Nobel prizes.
- Mesmorize, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Last time I checked this was because of how horrible the Palestinian medical response is, how many terrorist attacks are stopped before they happen, and how good Israel has gotten at treating terrorism attack injuries.
- Knucklecallus, on 02/22/2008, -2/+3Last time I checked, it was Israel enforcing the blockade. It was Israel, along with Palestinian Extremists, that was killing the other sides civilians. It was Israel that was unilaterally in control of the territories. It was Israel that was expanding illegal settlements (Illegal under U.N. Sanctions) In the west bank, while it was promising to seriously consider negotiations. Sure, you withdrew 7,000 people from the Gaza strip. But 280,000 Israelis occupy settlements in the west bank, and they are growing by more than 1000 every year. It was even Israel that kills 22 palestinian children for every Israeli child, while Israeli children's death's were reported at a 9(Israeli):1(Palestinian) ratio in the media. http://www.ifamericansknew.org/media/net-report.ht ... Last time I checked, it wasn't Israel providing healthcare and employment to destitute Palestinians, it was Hamas. http://www.cfr.org/publication/8968/ Last time I ***** checked, which was about 23 minutes ago, it was Israelis that actually had the ability to hope for a better future. Israelis can leave. Palestinians can't. So please. I acknowledge the fact that you are surrounded by a predominantly muslim community, but your perception of the david vs. goliath situation is skewed.

- Mesmorize, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1So you support Judenrein in the Occupied territories? If Palestinians have a right to live in Israel, Israelis have the right to live in Palestine.
You should be talking about whether or not the Israeli government is going to annex the land. And they aren't, so take your bigoted ***** out of here.
- SlipperyFox, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1What about the fact that Israel STILL has settlements on occupied territory?
The wall that Israel is building is more than 3 times the length of its actual border because it curves to include Palestinian farmland.
Israel is apartheid. I'm sick of every person of Jewish decent blindly supporting the foreign policies of Israel.
America needs to wake up and realize that we are fighting wars for Israel and that they have our politicians in their pocket.
*Cough* *Cough* Joseph Lieberman *Cough* *Cough* The "AIPAC", (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) The most influential lobbyist group in America.

- DanOnTheMoon, on 02/22/2008, -18/+30I wish the rest of the Arab nations would stop treating the Palestinians badly as well as Israel, perhaps even let people who wanted in, in. They could do a lot more. Israel's calmed down quite a bit, they don't even fire back anymore. They just cut the power off. What I'm trying to point out is that no one is expecting Israel to pack up and leave any more than the Palestinians, and both sides could do more for peace than going "Oh noes, the big bad jooz" or "Blah, F the palis". Both parties have contributed greatly to the current state of affairs.
(If only a certain texan gyno had been elected, we wouldn't even have to fund any of them anymore! Hmm...)- BlackDaniel, on 02/22/2008, -15/+10"They just cut the power off"?? You should go there!! - afflusso, on 02/22/2008, -8/+10I'm sure if there was a chance for peace, Israel would take it. It's the Palestinians who keep attacking Israel. Whether or not Israel should be firing back is another topic.
- elister, on 02/22/2008, -3/+6Yeah Ariel Sharon took a chance at peace by forcibly removing settlers from ILLEGAL outposts and he was awarded with a shiny new COMA. By the way, its the militants who keep attacking Israel, not your every day Palestinian citizen. But the Palestinian citizens are too busy trying to feed and shelter their families, yet they tend to suffer more due to the actions of the militants.
- yflicker, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2And it's your every day Palestinian that voted in Hamas, whose charter is to destroy Israel. If they knew what was good for them, the majority of them would want peace with Israel and would elect a government that would try to accomplish the same.
- Mesmorize, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1Just like they did at the Camp David Peace conference and Yasser Arafat rejected a peace deal that would give the Palestinians 95% of the original land and compensation(in other land) for the other 5%.

- fatlip, on 02/22/2008, -16/+78because america always bombed the middle east, then when we got hit once (in the WTC, as depicted in the comic), we dumped everything we had on them.
i thought that was obvious- Cerebral, on 02/22/2008, -12/+2Remember what happened after Pearl Harbor? I'm sure the Japanese can help you remember Fat Man and Little Boy.
- Memitim, on 02/22/2008, -2/+7Yeah, but this time we were even trickier about getting payback! When the Japanese government ordered a military attack on one of our chief naval bases, we launched a massive force of our own that drove right into the heart of the bombed out ruins of Tokyo. But this time a small band of criminals primarily born in Saudi Arabia and loosely based out of Afghanistan pulled off a mass murder worthy of a Tom Clancy novel, so we invaded and occupied Iraq. Bet they didn't see that twist coming!
- Jektal, on 02/22/2008, -1/+5The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was also an official declaration of war from one sovereign nation to another, not a bunch of untracked civilians taking matters into their own hands.

- waspbr, on 02/22/2008, -2/+2I guess you could say it's a little hard to distinguish Israeli policies from American policies towards the middle east these days
- bitcloud, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1absolutely... JINSA anyone?
if you're wondering if the left side is the USA or Israel, you'd probably better start doing some research into US foreign policy....
- bitcloud, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1absolutely... JINSA anyone?
- terracottapai, on 02/22/2008, -7/+4Notice they're strangely intact throughout.
- zuzustardust, on 02/22/2008, -26/+19I think Israel is using a great deal of restraint (although this comic is obviously depicting America).
It seems like a lot of the people whining about the poor Palestinians don't understand that suicide bombers specifically target civilians, they try to kill as many normal Israeli men, women and children as they possibly can. Can you imagine being afraid to ride the bus or go to a restaurant because some religious nut-job will walk in with a bomb strapped to his chest? Or they just randomly send cheap rockets over the Lebanese border hoping it hits an Israeli home. The Israeli military targets the militants that are attempting to kill Israelis. If Palestinians stopped bombing Israel, Israel would stop killing Palestinians, the converse is clearly not true.- JohnFlux, on 02/22/2008, -2/+2Asymmetric warfare is never pretty,
- Toxigen, on 02/22/2008, -3/+1As opposed to symmetric warfare?
- Memitim, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3It has a beauty in its own right. Symmetric warfare inspires poetry, paintings, photography, even the creation of the American national anthem, as well as the anthems of other nations I would imagine. Asymmetric warfare inspires revolution and terrorism.
- Toxigen, on 02/22/2008, -3/+1As opposed to symmetric warfare?
- ciphex, on 02/22/2008, -6/+10you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
- SpaceMonkeyZero, on 02/22/2008, -6/+7And yet Diggers don't want to listen to reason. It's easier for them to continue on with their preconceived notion that "ISRAEL IS A BUNCH OF BABY KILLERS. PALESTINIANS ARE FREEDOM FIGHTERS WHO ONLY THROW ROCKS!"
- kayvman78, on 02/22/2008, -1/+3Can you image a whole group of people coming and taking your land that you've been living on. Tell me.. Were Palestinians killing people before Israel was formed? Cause and effect. This is something that you need to consider. No effect occurs without a cause. If I pinch you will you not react to that. What do you want these people to do? Go off and die somewhere. Sorry.. not gonna happen. So the next time that poor, uneducated, murderer who is on his last straw anyway, goes and does something so sick as to blow himself up with others. Don't sit there and go "that murderer!" say " What caused that? "
- JohnFlux, on 02/22/2008, -2/+2Asymmetric warfare is never pretty,
- KodomoNoJikan, on 02/22/2008, -20/+6Why can't we just force all the jews and palestinians to have sex and bear children?
Who knows, we might just get a brand new stupid ***** religion out of it
mmmmm... the religion of *****... (saying it before someone else does)- JohnFlux, on 02/22/2008, -1/+9We tried that over here in the UK (hundred or so years ago) when we sent over lots of people to Ireland in order to try to merge it with England, or at least to prevent them from attacking the us.
Unfortunately we forgot that the Irish were Catholic, and so the babies would be Catholic, even if one of the parents was Protestant.
That move ended up with the divide of Ireland and a war that lasted a hundred years or so. - LocalDocal, on 02/22/2008, -2/+2For starters, artificial insemination would probably be a lot more efficient. Secondly, as John said, the aftermath probably wouldn't be pretty when the two groups try to assess which religion the infants will belong to.
- GREEDOnvrFIRED, on 02/22/2008, -0/+2You're thinking is almost sound, but there is a more realistic solution...
http://www.seedsofpeace.org/about
"Seeds of Peace has focused primarily on bringing Arab and Israeli teenagers together before fear, mistrust and prejudice blind them from seeing the human face of their enemy." - SuperCow1127, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3I think the last thing the middle east needs is a race of bear children.

- mdaize, on 02/22/2008, -9/+3Dubya???
- felidaeus, on 02/22/2008, -20/+31Here, I'll explain it in a way you all can understand.
Once upon a time, America, that's us there! bombed the islam out of that place there (the evil muslims)
Then America let them grow in peace and prosperity happily ever while, because we are such nice people.
Then we bombed islam out of them some more because the great dirty muslims didn't know their place.
Then those horrible terrorists had the gall to hit us, but the great powerful America wouldn't stand for that, so we decided to stop being so nice to them and bombed the ever living islam out of them.
Now what's the moral dear?
Jews are unfair to Palestinians!
.......WTF!?!?!?- spiritditch, on 02/22/2008, -1/+4"Jews are unfair to Palestinians"
Correction, Israel is unfair to Palestinians. Don't fall into the religion trap: this is about states.
But the leap from America to Israel is easy to see when you look at the history of the America-Israel alliance... Israel is essentially an American outpost, its existence and level of power and foreign policy entirely dependent on the US.
Both Israel and the US carry out aggression in the Muslim world. - krautkamel, on 02/22/2008, -5/+1Oh, i get it now. Thanks for your inaccurate, over-simplified explanation

PLAIN and SIMPLE, if you have the power that would happen, no matter how morally or proud one country is. Look at the US history, WE ARE A WAR COUNTRY, that's who we are.
- Toallpointswest, on 02/22/2008, -2/+2You are that because you chose to be that, your very foundation was adversarial to your Palestinian neighbors, you should not expect, nor receive any sympathy.

- bitcloud, on 02/22/2008, -1/+4yeah i'm seriously not understanding why everyone thinks it's about israel...
If you look at it, the middle east is pissed off with the US largely BECAUSE of the support they provide to israel, so it's still an important part of the puzzle, but this comic shows the whole picture concisely as the USA and THE MIDDLE EAST... - myass666mlong, on 02/22/2008, -6/+0lot of jew ass here , i never see a jew but here there so many o0 im scared

Jesus people, a few Mexicans walk over the border and you still flip ***** on debates. Imagine how bad it would be if they were actually vocal. Americans need to stop being hypocrites over Israel.
- Mesmorize, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1Plus the 25,000 rockets fired in the past two years.
- keyme, on 02/22/2008, -10/+22That's true.
- keyme, on 02/22/2008, -9/+21If one rocket could make Israel say "no more mr. nice guy", there wouldn't be a single Palestinian alive today. So please pay attention to proportions.
Anyhow, this comic is obviously not about Israel. Even disregarding the previous fact.- saswannabe17, on 02/22/2008, -3/+4Israel is a Nuclear nation... if they really didn't want Palestine around anymore; it could disappear.
- Knucklecallus, on 02/22/2008, -1/+4Along with Jerusalem. Good thinking
- Knucklecallus, on 02/22/2008, -0/+2The comic isn't just about one single rocket, its about the retaliation that occurs after a single rocket is fired in retaliation for the other retaliation before that other retaliation that was a response to the first retaliation.

Last time I checked, Israel isn't known for hulking skyscrapers.- bitcloud, on 02/22/2008, -1/+11they're not all morons... some are just 14 years old...

- pershingdriver, on 02/22/2008, -11/+3A couple of points.
1. AQ lead by OBL declared war on the U.S. in 1995 (google for the video)
2. They have attacked the US (USS Cole, TT, Pentagon, flight 93)
3. They have issued rulings saying its OK to kill Americans where ever they are and what ever they are doing.
4. Like WW2 this is a war of ideas and like WW2 it is a TOTAL war
5. In total war civilians are killed by both sides there are NO rules
6. Saying its not right or unjust is like saying rain is wet of course its not right and nor is it just; but grow up we can win or we can die.
7. You have to be alive to have regrets
8. Only the dead have seen the end of War- GhostyBoy, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3Does any of what you just said justify violence and stupidity?
- pershingdriver, on 02/22/2008, -2/+0Of course not. But justice does not exist and violence is the status quo There is no such thing as "peace" and never has been since Cain killed Able.

- juneaudigger, on 02/22/2008, -6/+27Just in case some of you still don't understand what the strip is trying to convey (as I myself didn't, until viewing it more closely and carefully; also, I'm not going to specify any particular countries here, although it's glaringly obvious which ones they're supposed to be):
Panel 1: The superpower is attacking the non-superpower with air strikes, missiles, bombs, general hostility, etc.
Panel 2: Nothing happening here really; it's just the aftermath of the attacks.
Panel 3: The attacking on the part of the superpower continues.
Panel 4: In retaliation, the non-superpower decides to launch their own offensive, which is considerably smaller than the initial attack(s) done to them.
Panels 5 and 6: The superpower feels wronged due to the retaliatory strike, so they continue to attack the non-superpower on a much grander scale than ever before.
There you go. Of course, having to explain it sucks any 'comedy' the punchline may have had to begin with.- Jimmeeee, on 02/22/2008, -1/+2Thanks for explaining that. I looked at it several times and couldn't figure it out; the fact that everyone disagrees on what it means doesn't help. It could just show that world superpowers tend to take assaults on their countries a lot more personally, regardless of how weak the assault is.
- t3soro, on 02/22/2008, -0/+2was it really that hard to figure out?
- werkerb33, on 02/22/2008, -0/+3No, it's not a superpower. It's NY City. Look at the skyline.
- Brownds, on 02/22/2008, -0/+1What is funny is it is sooo obvious and yet your post is the only one that can see it for what it is.

- Baltiman, on 02/22/2008, -6/+13This might be an accurate depiction of American foreign policy but the people comparing the Israel/Palestine situation need to do some more reading on the subject - it really isnt that simple. For instance, when Israel declared its existance on 14 May 1948, Israelis were a minority and Palestinians a majority. The Palestinines then immediately incited a war to exterminate Israelis and their nascent state - which failed. It is also notable that Palestinians rejected a 2-state solution when it was first suggested in the UN (the Israelis supported it) prefering the anihilation of the Israeli state.
I dont agree with things both sides have done - my only point is that is more complex than the situation suggested in the cartoon.- brockpetrie, on 02/22/2008, -1/+6This was all after Palestinians got the short end of the stick post-WWI. They fought against the Ottomans in the Arab Revolt of 1916 under the promise that it would secure them an independent state (a promise made by Britain). Yet, after fighting the Ottoman's alongside the British and constituting a majority of the population, they were granted no national/political rights in the Palestinian Mandate. Yet that same document referred to several other documents concerning the interest of carving out a territory to serve as the national home for the Jewish people.
After the secret meetings and broken promises hidden from the Arabs in the Sykes-Picot Agreement and the Balfour Declaration, it was pretty clear the Arabs were used like a tool. Those embarrassing agreements were at odds with the McMahon-Hussein Correspondence, which basically documented Britain's promise to create for the Arabs a state with full autonomy and sovereignty. Hell, the British didn't even plan to tell the Arabs of their actual plan; Britain pissed off Russia by excluding them from the spoils of the Ottoman empire, so the Russians gave Britain the finger by spilling the beans of Sykes-Picot. That's how Faisal and Hussein bin Ali found out they'd been stabbed in the back.
The Palestinians were promised a state long before the Israelis were. They fought alongside the allies for that promise. The Arabs were the ones getting killed disrupting Ottoman supply lines. The Arabs were the ones getting killed distracting Ottoman forces. The Arabs didn't get ***** - not a damn thing except for a slap-in-the-face document giving a totally different people a home. I gotta admit, I'd be pretty pissed off too...
I do agree, it is a complex situation. But when Israel declared independence, it was just one more slap in the face. If you slap someone enough, they're going to snap eventually. Hence the Arab Riots and subsequent *****.
Good discussion though! Just subscribed to you as a fan.- igorocc, on 02/22/2008, -1/+1Yes, you are correct that the arabs living in the area of Palestine (then the British Mandate) were promised a country--and they got one, actually two: Jordan and Syria. The "Palestinians" and the idea of a Palestinian nation was, as several scholars (such as Benny Morris) have noted, a reaction to Zionism and Jewish settlement in the area of Palestine. You are conflating the "Arabs" with the present-day concept of the Palestinians. Indeed, even through the 60's and beyond most Palestinians viewed themselves as Jordanian nationals, and held Jordanian citizenship until the 70s or 80s. That is not to say that the Arabs didn't get screwed or that the Jews are completely right--there is no right side in this conflict. But to say that the Palestinians were promised a state long before the Israelis were is false.
- Mesmorize, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1You are an idiot. The Palestinians got two countries, if anyone the Jews got a ***** deal. Palestinians got Trans-Jordan(2/3 Palestinian) and half of the holy land.

Regardless, the comic can be used to interpret any modern imperial power and its victims. Why not throw in Russia/Chechnya, too?

I prefer the Keyser Soze response:
"He waits until his wife and kids are in the ground and then he goes after the rest of the mob. He kills their kids, he kills their wives, he kills their parents and their parents' friends. He burns down the houses they live in and the stores they work in, he kills people that owe them money. And like that he was gone." -
