- kemuelste, on 09/14/2008, -47/+76I Know I saw it like 5 mins ago Phelps was okay
- rossnyc, on 09/14/2008, -3/+35Acting not in his future but it's ok, I give him a free pass for tonight's show.
- Gosunkugi, on 09/14/2008, -2/+44"Okay" is being really really generous. It's kind of a sign when the most natural Phelps looked the entire night was when he was playing a mumbling socially inept ten-year old with braces. This and the Space Olympics were the two highlights of the episode, basically.
- monkzero, on 09/14/2008, -3/+10Dang, not fair, SNL starts in 30 mins for me... I don't expect Phelps to be brilliant in live comedy anyways.
- joshua5, on 09/14/2008, -17/+3Was Phelps a last minute replacement because Obama canceled? If anyone can confirm that maybe Phelps can get a pass.
- afx1, on 09/14/2008, -0/+13no obama was supposed to make a brief appearance. phelps was the main guest host though.
- ConanMayerFan, on 09/14/2008, -0/+3did obama come after all? i stopped watching after weekend updates, phelps kind of made me ehhh...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QbgXQ4XL1Y - poxonyou, on 09/14/2008, -1/+29why are we even judging his acting performance? it's not like it was christpher walken having an off night or something. SNL occasionally has sports stars on and obviously acting is not something they can just do. most of the SNL cast, as much as people like to bash them, have been performing sketch comedy for years before SNL. actually, it's good for people to see the difference so they have a little more respect for the regulars. the sketch writers on the other hand...
- nycmac247, on 09/14/2008, -2/+9I think people are shattered when they realize that having skills in one thing does not have anything to do with a skillset in any other.
Perhaps that one of the biggest problems in society? We confuse the art with the artist, so to speak? - hopperny, on 09/14/2008, -2/+10If he GOES on SNL then clearly it's fair to critique his acting ability.
- JEWestbrookJR, on 09/14/2008, -2/+3The only good sports star hosts were manning and lebron james
- brainboy77, on 09/14/2008, -0/+2I'll always remember Jeter and the Perm.
- bigdoglj52, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1nycmac, im pretty sure they had him host it kinda as an award for winning all the golds....
- poxonyou, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1if i was asked to host SNL, i'd take the offer too and know i'd probably suck at it, but i wouldn'T expect anyone to think otherwise since i have no acting experience.
if you hated the episode, blame Lorane(?) Michaels. Phelps just did what anyone else would have done with such an offer.
- nycmac247, on 09/14/2008, -2/+9I think people are shattered when they realize that having skills in one thing does not have anything to do with a skillset in any other.
- protodon, on 09/14/2008, -4/+1Great now they're going to parade him around everywhere and his acting isn't going to get any better. You know, like Shaq and he had at least 2 movies!

- diggdallas, on 09/14/2008, -8/+2Why are you sad, jbink?
- sprooj, on 09/14/2008, -0/+14Because you have no deductive reasoning skills whatsoever.
- ZenMojo, on 09/14/2008, -1/+6Sadly, it really is 90% true...except for that hugging the planet thing, I doubt Palin's God would hug the planet without massive deforestation first, just in case a tree or two accidentally got in the way.
- samirms, on 09/14/2008, -1/+2I'm only replying on this thread so someone will read it....but It's down anyone got a mirror?

http://www.hulu.com/watch/34465/saturday-night-liv ... - ElbowGeek, on 09/14/2008, -0/+0By the bye, does anyone remember when there were similar concerns about Oliver North assuming the vice presidency, there was a Bloome County cartoon which had one of the characters attempting to extract the sweat from Bill the Cat by yelling "Oliver North as leader of the free world!" (apparently Bill's sweat glands produced a substance which cured baldness and had become extremely valuable).
- kiiwii, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1Baby Mama certainly wasn't a cinematic masterpiece, but there were still quite a few laugh out loud moments.

- BurningSky, on 09/14/2008, -6/+886Tina Fey got the accent spot on...
- joshua5, on 09/14/2008, -27/+11Epic. She totally pwned.
- WildTurkey101, on 09/14/2008, -52/+11What accent? I was too busy wishing I was hittin Tina Fey....
- bluezinc, on 09/14/2008, -7/+30Gee golly gosh, I wish I was as cool as you.
- IllBeBack, on 09/14/2008, -2/+1The Wisconsin/Minnesota/U.P. accent. Where they say tha-et instead of that and such.

- dsgamer, on 09/14/2008, -1/+4i was watching it and i couldn't figure out if that was Palin or not
mostly because of the accent - lisavilisa, on 09/14/2008, -1/+21I think Palin has Tina's look spot on.
- dsgamer, on 09/14/2008, -1/+4i was watching it and i couldn't figure out if that was Palin or not
- pintomp3, on 09/14/2008, -1/+16except for one thing, palin pronounces things that end in "ing" as "een".
- craeyon, on 09/14/2008, -3/+97wait that was Tina Fey?!?
I thought they somehow managed to get the real thing on there...- RusskiGuy, on 09/14/2008, -0/+3Haha, Well it's not unlikely. They did have McCain make fun of himself about the age issue a while back...
- benplaut, on 09/14/2008, -2/+61My mom walked in to watch this, and actually thought it was her. The accent, the look, the fake smile. Terrific!
- IllBeBack, on 09/14/2008, -6/+7HAHA your mom is not very smart.
- Niallgriff, on 09/14/2008, -3/+97First off, I must say, for the record, that I am in love with Tina Fey. And that skit was awesome.
"ask her about dinosaurs"- Gutterpunk, on 09/14/2008, -11/+2Back off, she's mine.
- rkiga, on 09/14/2008, -17/+2noooooooo mine. she doesn't want to be with a doody head like you anyway.
when i look at palin i want to vomit, but tina fey can make even her look sexylicious.
- geodebug, on 09/14/2008, -0/+58In what respect, Charlie?
- STARTSOMETHING, on 09/14/2008, -3/+16I thought that was Palin.
- protodon, on 09/14/2008, -12/+4I never heard Palin speak before but I assume she sounds like Bobby's mom from Bobby's World, don't cha know?
- DephexTwin, on 09/14/2008, -1/+12You've never heard Palin speak? Seriously? Watch or listen to a news program every so often. It's kind of important lately.
- protodon, on 09/14/2008, -5/+3I don't watch tv and I don't need to see someone "live" to know what they're about. News comes in print, too...don't cha know.
- salome191, on 09/14/2008, -0/+2you're absoulutely right. I couldn't remember what tv show that phrase was from. she does sound like bobby's mom.
- pyry, on 09/14/2008, -8/+1I dunno, I thought it sounded more Minnesotan than Alaskan. I can see how Palin would sound mid-western, but there are aspects of her speech that are clearly not. That didn't kill the skit of course. ;D
- 8barblues, on 09/14/2008, -1/+2There's not really an Alaskan accent, hate to break it to ya. And also, Palin, while she does have a slight accent, has just ***** slathered it on ever since she got the VP nomination.
But no, we don't really have accents in Alaska, it's pretty neutral. I think. (but isn't that what everyone says about their own accent?)

- atomiclegion, on 09/14/2008, -14/+112The northwestern accent was brilliant, spot on winey.
- IllBeBack, on 09/14/2008, -10/+4That's a North Central accent. North Western doesn't sound like that.
/lived in 12 states - I know... - kelmaster1, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1Ya, Palin has a Duluth accent, with a hint of bitch. That accent is uncommon in the NW.

- MacBookForMe, on 09/14/2008, -12/+9I loved both! It sounds even better in Britain!
- BowieX, on 09/14/2008, -3/+9Umm... I'm not quite sure you understood the comment.

- jason210, on 09/14/2008, -23/+8What exactly is all the experience Hillary Clinton has? shes been a senator for what 6 years? becore that what exactly makes her qualified? I have been wondering why shes so qualified everyone keep saying it.
In other news this was hilarious.- bruce86, on 09/14/2008, -6/+25I wonder why everyone says sarah palin has foreign policy experience when she doesn't even know her own parties foreign policy.
- iPastafarian, on 09/14/2008, -7/+13Maybe because she spent 8 years in the white house..?
- bluezinc, on 09/14/2008, -3/+28@iPastafarian
Hillary doesn't have much experience, but compared to Palin she's a ***** 1,000 year old highlander of politics. - aeck, on 09/14/2008, -0/+6I'm sick and tired of everyone talking about experience. It's about COMPETENCE to LEAD.
- jason210, on 09/14/2008, -10/+11bruce 86,
Palin doesn't have foreign policy experience. No argument from me.
iPastafarian,
If my wife was a doctor would you let me do surgery on you? So you think Laura Bush has the experience necessary?
I'm not saying Palin does have experience, I'm just questioning Hillary Clinton's. People are constantly saying she does and it seems fundamentally untrue to me. But I guess if I'm not saying pro democratic things I'm going to get dugg down. - Tribis, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1Good.
- tmattoneill, on 09/14/2008, -0/+13Go BACK to the Governor's mansion? She's spent 312 nights away from it (but billed the state for per diem's in her own home) in her first 18 months as governor. How about she just goes away?
- ElbowGeek, on 09/14/2008, -1/+0Isn't the Governor's mansion a trailer backed up to an igloo up there? She's probably thrilled to be outta there lol
- ATLien74, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1And it would be a good thing if she was a Hillary Clinton?
HAHA
- MacBookForMe, on 09/14/2008, -12/+9I loved both! It sounds even better in Britain!
- OMGRussellCrowe, on 09/14/2008, -12/+207Hopefully there won't be a need for many more Palin impressions after November, but Tina Fey will have to come back every time if she does become a recurring character. She absolutely nailed it.
- Tribis, on 09/14/2008, -1/+4It has already been stated that she will not be coming back for Palin impressions.
- HappyScrappy, on 09/14/2008, -5/+5It's also been stated that Lorne Michaels produces her current TV show and NBC owns the production.
If NBC really wants her back there to do the impressions, there's really nothing she can do to stop it.
- HappyScrappy, on 09/14/2008, -5/+5It's also been stated that Lorne Michaels produces her current TV show and NBC owns the production.

- gsadamb, on 09/14/2008, -6/+186Fantastic. This is one of the best impersonations I've ever seen on SNL.
- Jsmakr, on 09/14/2008, -13/+426I heart Tina Fey.
- zwaldowski, on 09/14/2008, -22/+4It's pronounced < 3.
- IllBeBack, on 09/14/2008, -2/+9It is pronounced less than three?
What the ***** does that even mean, dude? - zwaldowski, on 09/14/2008, -7/+3It's a joke, *****. I'm a teenager; sorry.

- seanmc303, on 09/14/2008, -12/+82The first time I saw Palin, I thought Tina Fey would be able to pull off the perfect impersonation.
- amoirae, on 09/14/2008, -2/+37I thought Palin was impersonating Tina Fey.
- Phazoni, on 09/14/2008, -1/+11Yeah. So did the rest of us. :)
- RickyHo, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2Tina Fey > Sara Palin
- boombye, on 09/14/2008, -28/+10I've said several times that Tina Fey looks just like Sarah Palin, and what do you know, she pulls off a great impersonation of her..From the look down to the voice. First time I saw her, I kept thinking "bitch is the new black" for some reason. It all makes sense.
- boombye, on 09/14/2008, -7/+6You can digg me down if you dislike Palin being mocked via this impersonation, but you can't deny that Tina Fey can pull it off good.
- elliashe, on 09/14/2008, -3/+12You've got it backwards. It's Sarah Palin who looks like Tina Fey.
- boombye, on 09/14/2008, -6/+3How do I have it backwards if Sarah Palin is older??
- boombye, on 09/14/2008, -2/+13Forgot to add that Tina Fey's hotter.
- R2Bacca, on 09/14/2008, -1/+1Wow, you must be psychic or something.

- runCMD, on 09/14/2008, -46/+1An Obama presidency will set back racism, sexism, and ageism to pre 1950's levels. You guys are so spot on.
- Peekman, on 09/14/2008, -0/+16I love future tellers!!!!..... Jets over Patriots this week?
- runCMD, on 09/14/2008, -16/+1Peekman - I wasn't just speaking of the future - I am speaking of now. Just look at the comments coming from Obama supporters directed at the 'senile' Republican Candidate - or the 'bitch' Hillary Clinton - or the growing 'I'm voting black' crowd so desparately sought by Obama in this election - as evidenced by his very hard push to get black voters in traditionaly republican states to register and vote. Encouraging pride in skin color is a slippery slide down into bigotry. Racism != Good - haven't we learned at least that.
it doesn't take much 'future-tellin' to know that if you stick your hand in a fire you're gonna get burned. We've seen these behaviors before. And it doesn't lead to a unified country. It leads to what we see now, coming into the last run up to the election.
I'm game though - Jets. - SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/14/2008, -0/+5@runCMD: Those people are the overwhelming minority of Obama supporters. They do not indicate, nor could they induce, a paradigm shift. Most Obama supporters, myself included, are issues voters who firmly believe he is the most qualified candidate with the best ideas and whose views are most inline with our own.
What has divided this country is a party preying on our fears for the past seven years. A party who would so flagrantly and repulsively continue to exploit the most horrific attack on US soil since Pearl Harbor at their convention nominating a man who then stated he would do something different. He can talk, but he's not fooling me.
Tell me exactly what Obama did that was "desperately" seeking the "I'm voting black" crowd (who is mostly in your own bigoted head, btw). If he has sought anything desperately in this campaign it's been to show narrow minded people such as yourselves that you are being played by the republican party. Their politics of fear continue still. They want you to fear Obama. They want you fear a pull-out of Iraq. They want you to fear national health-care. They want you fear another 9/11. They want you to be afraid so they can come and tell you, "Vote for me and these fears won't be realized." The create fear so they can quell it and thus control your vote.
In the end, it's up to you to decide whether or not you want to play into their little game. Are you too scared to watch Obama acceptence speech with objectivity? Are you too scared to go to Obama's website, look at his ideas, and decide for yourself if they are valid? Are you too scared to turn off Fox News, forget the republican party line, and think for yourself? If you, for some reason, like being afraid, like being told you are right to be afraid, and are willing to give up your liberties, free-will, and vote to that fear then by all means proceed as you were. Close your eyes and ears and vote republican without further thought or question. They will give you want you want, and you will get what you deserve. If, however, you think of yourself as a person capable of speaking their own mind, able to think for themselves, and as someone worthy of having their own voice heard in their government then go find out with these candidate actually want to DO and what they think. Decide not on who is black or female or republican or liberal. Decide with your own mind who actually agrees with it most.
- mageduley, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1She has totally redeemed herself with this impression of Palin. Comedy is 1000 times better than any political ad ever.

- diggdallas, on 09/14/2008, -1/+2No they didn't, they made a movie called Baby Mama
- welliwonder, on 09/14/2008, -12/+289WOW! In all seriousness I thought that was Palin initially. Spot on.
"I can see Russia from my house!" LOL- saintdesy, on 09/14/2008, -2/+20Yeah, I had the video running in a background tab and I had to jump over really quick because I heard the voice and thought "What the hell?! Is that actually Palin?". Tina Fey does the vocals perfectly. I don't think I have heard a better impression by anybody.
- stillasleep00, on 09/14/2008, -2/+6Nah... Tina Fey dressed too conservatively.

- Laminarcissus, on 09/14/2008, -10/+4Right around the time some people decided it was a shortcut to cool to say that SNL *used* to be funny.
- Braintricks, on 09/14/2008, -5/+6Weekend Update is the only thing worth watching, and that isn't even very funny.
- diggdallas, on 09/14/2008, -2/+3Weekend Update won't be funny again until they replace that jackass Seth Meyers.
- YellowStar, on 09/14/2008, -29/+9Some evil part of me wants to see Palin in the White House just for the comic relief. Maybe that calculation is part of the voters' decision-making process....
- Nature1, on 09/14/2008, -14/+6Somebody had to say it.

- ezcheezbandit, on 09/14/2008, -0/+14I've gotta say, that is the ***** site I have seen in a long time. Long loading times, commercials before everything you watch, choppy fullscreen option. Seriously when are people like NBC going to realize that youtube actually HELPS them. It's FREE advertising people! And their site isn't ***** like yours. It's not like you didn't want people to watch it for free, you just wanted them to watch ads before they watch it.
***** you Olay micro beads or *****. - helenkupo, on 09/14/2008, -0/+1They want you to go to their site and not youtube so they can make money with all those commercials they force feed you before clips. Youtube may be free advertising but it doesn't bring in the $$$.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/14/2008, -0/+2I agree with ezcheezbandit, that site is downright rotten. It made watching this video a serious chore since it kept trying to stream it to me instead of just downloading it like Youtube. Of course my crappy internet connection can't keep up (A mere 50kb/s).
I weep for anyone still stuck with dial-up.

- HencheMann, on 09/14/2008, -28/+145...but seriously folks. This ***** twit could be President. This scheming idiot could be our President. This cannot happen.
Yes, ANYONE can be President, however, I generally like my leaders to be much more intelligent than me.
Sorry, "folksy" won't save America. Johnny Mac's war hero medals won't do much for us either.
Jesus Fecking Chirst. I cannot believe this is happening. WHAT THE FECK!!!???- WildTurkey101, on 09/14/2008, -34/+8And someone chanting "change" will... Obama is just as much of an asshat as McCain. He has ZERO substance. I really wish the media would have given Ron Paul a fair shake -- there is a leader.
- boombye, on 09/14/2008, -1/+38Yeah if I gave you a book such as "The Origin of Species" you'd probably say it has no substance either....Seriously you watch stupid video clips on the internet or you catch brief clips on the news of them chanting some slogan, but you're too lazy to be bothered into looking for substance.
http://www.barackobama.com/issues/
Pick and issue. Surely you don't agree with him, but you don't need to act as if he's as vague as you make him out to be. I'm smart enough to read beyond chants and slogans and actually see what his positions on the issues are. I still don't know McCain's stance on many issues, he's changed his mind too many times to keep up with... - BossKey, on 09/14/2008, -2/+29Zero substance other than years of laying out his positions including writing them in books he wrote without a ghost writer?
- SkinnerBox, on 09/14/2008, -0/+13@ BossKey
I don't think people realize how rare that is. NO ONE writes their own books anymore. NO ONE writes their own speeches anymore. Barack Obama is as legit as they come.

That shouldn't be too hard, probably why we have chimpy in office right now.- SwampAss, on 09/14/2008, -4/+0and that chimp is still smarter than you...
- odessadark, on 09/14/2008, -22/+2She is the VICE-Presidential nominee, idiot.

- rustyrobot, on 09/14/2008, -0/+18No, no she isn't. Nobody who thinks the Iraq war is a mission from god is intelligent. Nobody who denies evolution is intelligent. Nobody who thinks the Earth is 6000 years old is intelligent.
Can we please stop validating ignorance by electing this ticket? - dig1x, on 09/14/2008, -0/+17She took 6 years at 5 universities to get a 4 year journalism degree.
She's a fcuking moron. Just like Mr 596h out of 599 Military class-McCain. - rustyrobot, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1oops, I should have said:
Can we please stop validating ignorance by not electing this ticket?
- runCMD, on 09/14/2008, -19/+1Seriously - It's no scarier than Obama as president. Literally - why are you guys so scared of the Republican vice nominee ? Be more concerned about the man at the helm. half term Senator Obama is delusional - and you are feeding into it. Makes for great comedy - but not a way to run a country.
- sfanetti, on 09/14/2008, -1/+11Are you serious?! Obama's policies and opinions are clear across the board. He is actually articulate and knowledgable about issues that concern the entire country. He does not speak in sound bites ( which just means the speaker does not know WTF they are talking about ). And he can enunciate his policies clearly with foreign heads of state. Palin looks like an idiot trying to cover up for the fact that she is an idiot. She is a female George Bush. No wonder you idiots love her.
- runCMD, on 09/14/2008, -8/+1Articulate - yes. That's a given. Knowlegable ? that's up for debate. He absolutely does speak in soundbites - throwing words like 'gimmick' and 'distraction' out whenever he is confronted for his own inconsistent statements. Palin doesn't look like an idiot - but you do for attempting to protray her as a femal George Bush. And calling me an idiot does not make it so.
so there. LOL. - SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/14/2008, -0/+3"so there. LOL."
You see, this is why I don't bother trying to debate politics seriously with the conservative "base" most of the time. Their understanding of real issues is practically none existent, and they drag discourse down to the school-yard level every chance they get.
Obama doesn't speak in soundbites. Claim he does if it makes you feel better, but the proof is in the pudding. Clips of his speeches tell you very little about what the entire speech was all about, and you won't here a phrase replayed a hundred thousand times on CNN because they simply aren't there. It's entirely deliberate. It makes it hard to distort what he's saying with out of context sound-bites and makes those who actually care about their government have to listen to everything he is saying as opposed to just drawing conclusions from small bits and pieces.
- Dragular, on 09/14/2008, -5/+4Dude, it's OK, calm down, Hillary didn't even got the nomination.
- runCMD, on 09/14/2008, -8/+2Dragular - thanks for clearing that up for me. : ) I keep forgetting how the the democratic party screwed the pooch this primary season. I'll try to remember going into the election. I'm sure not seeing her name on the ballot will be a clear reminder.
