The Daily Show: Can you say anything if you just ask? watch!
youtube.com — Jon Stewart analyzes the use of the question mark in TV news channels, and reveals that some (you know who) use it just to say things that otherwise would be considered biased slander... are segments like these the reason they got an Emmy Award?

I am fuming! You think you can just get away with your slander by adding a question mark? - FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Best show ever?
- MobbyG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Once again John Stewart hits one outta here! Love it?
- Foxman2000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Anyone see this and think of, "inflection?"

- M4tt3r, on 10/12/2007, -11/+59The Question Mark: A prophylactic protecting Fox News from anything it might contract during its extensive GOP c**ksucking?
I'm just asking.- TubaTechno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Is this begging the question?
- dancpsu, on 10/12/2007, -19/+3CBS, ABC, NBC, and CNN are already pros at asking left wing biased questions. FOX News could learn some more tactics from them.
- clord, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7dancpsu, you forgot to add your question mark at the end!
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"CBS, ABC, NBC, and CNN are already pros at asking left wing biased questions. FOX News could learn some more tactics from them."
Have you watched CNN lately? Check out Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace. I think you're going to like them. CNN used to be very centrist and objective with their reporting, but right now they are trying to go after FOX News by propping up their own obnoxious, loud-mouthed, right-wing pundits.
If by "left-wing biased", you mean actually questioning some of our administrations' actions and not just paraphrasing every newspeak catch word that comes out of Tony Snow's mouth, like FOX does, then yes, the "mainsteam media" is left-wing biased.
- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -6/+76Is our president a complete failure at everything he does?
- uttles, on 10/12/2007, -24/+12... as used by CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CSPAN, BBC, ITV.....
- diggywiggit, on 10/12/2007, -48/+5He is a ***** ***** ***** bitch crap whore noob?
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -18/+71Why does Digg hate America?
- madkow420, on 10/12/2007, -18/+23Digg does not hate America, ok maybe some do. But I love America though I am not happy with the current people in power. Just because you question authority and show dissent does not make you unloyal or unpatriotic.
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I always find it helpful to ask myself "If I did hate America, what would I say or do differently than I do now?" If the answer is "Not much." then I know I'm giving the wrong impression... something many, many people should be considering.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29@lava:
Not many do hate *America*. One thing I think most of us can agree we hate though, is the current administration's successful attempt at removing the line between AMERICA and G.W. Bush. It is *not* unpatriotic to disapprove of your president. It is *not* unpatriotic to want a war to end and to have your troops back home and funding reallocated to more important ends.
Quit asserting that GWB == America, and it's a huge first step towards a better understanding of what the problems are and how to fix them. - lava, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33When we come back after the break: Why don't diggers realize I'm joking? Are they reactionary partisans or just stupid?
- riah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19@lava, you didn't ask it correctly:
"Does Digg hate America?"
or just
"Digg hates America?"
the "Why" actually makes it seem more like a real question... - hobgobbler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't think the government is responsible for the 'I hate Bush = I hate america' concept. I think Fox came up with that all on their own. They are going for the ultra pro-authority, anti-intellectual crowd and they know their audience well.
- whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13ok, so I guess everybody has missed Lava's joke, so let me help him a bit...
whenever anyone questions Bush/Chaney/Iraq/etc, then the typical GOP response boils down to "why do you hate america?"... he's making fun of reactionary GOP people.. he's not serious.
don't worry lava, I gotcha ;-) - zorvi4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0agreed
- bobcatgrad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yes.
- da5idblacksun, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3That is so freakin awesome.

I mean, WTF?
- op12, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17This video is hilarious?
- OMGWTFROFLMAO, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59I'm Ron Burgundy?
- da_bradler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I love... lamp?
- uttles, on 10/12/2007, -34/+6The daily show attacking something that democrats don't like...my goodness, this must be a first!
er, wait, I mean, this must be a first?- themulf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19There's more people than just the democrats that don't like this administration.
- Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10my teachers always said "theres no such thing as a bad question." I guess its embedded in our heads that this is true.
Note: this doesn't apply to china - i mean, does this apply to china?- madkow420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21There is such a thing as a bad/stupid question. Our teachers/parents were just being nice, trying to not let us feel like idiots :)
- thirdman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11There is no such thing as a stupid question, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.
- tcelder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No such thing as a bad question?
- lagnut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers
- Inbal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Questions that are meant to disguise baseless incitement aren't stupid, just manipulative and unethical.
- PunkRampant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My teacher said that the only stupid question is the one that wasn't asked. And the only stupid answer is the one that wasn't given. Hey, I live by these rules.
- thebudgie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9At 1:37 in the film is there an explanation of why people get 'than' and 'then mixed up?
- DeadDragon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I dugg this??
- cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9entertainment value aside this brings up a good point. Why do we let cnn, msnbc and fox get away with this. If i came to my boss and say to him. is your mother a whore? I would probably get fired.
- eric0213, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I think if CNN asked if Barbara Bush was a whore, than someone would probably also get fired.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I don't know about Barb Bush being a whore, but she always looks like she's high on Xanax and whiskey or something.
- cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6***** if i was George's mom I would too get loaded on whiskey and pop pills....
?
- ElectricKetchup, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9If the government is corrupt beyond repair, shouldn't we use the second amendment that our founding fathers gave us to take out those who have corrupted our government?
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Mmmhmm, good luck with that?
- themulf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Should the president be taken care of?
- jspalding, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4BOOM HEADSHOT!
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wasn't the Second Amendment meant to protect the states' ability to maintain military power?
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I don't thing that wearing bear arms is going to help.
- dancpsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The second amendment is good for 3 things:
1) Crime deterrent
2) Make things much more difficult for an invading army
3) Make things much more difficult for a massive gov't takeover
- shoelace414, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Segements like this aren't the reason they got an emmy, but it is the reason they got a Peabody. (a REAL Peabody, not a Polk Peabody)
- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Is your mother a whore?
- levi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I wonder what the Canadians use on their news shows eh?
- TritonX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Same manipulative media (insert any bad word).
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11It's interesting.... some of the most influential companies in the country are pulling the same trick pubescent children have been doing for generations:
"Do your parents know you're gay?"
"Have your parents caught you whacking off in the bathroom yet?"
"What does a virgin eat for breakfast?" (I don't know = slut, anything else = hah ha, virgin)
Just shows some people never grow out of childishness.- noisician, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So, what DID you have for breakfast?
- rabidjester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Best segment I've seen in a while, the show's really hitting on all 8 lately. I do cringe a bit when people misuse 'begging the question' though. He gets a pass on this one.
- UnnDunn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Digg's algorithm needs an upgrade.
Digg's algorithm needs an upgrade?
Hey, it works! - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You see the ? trick on a lot of tech gadget and apple-specific sites when reporting rumors..they get to speculate, make claims, then can go back and say "WELL IT WAS A QUESTION"
- VTmruhlin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Some recent Digg headlines....

Are Fox News not the only ones doing it?- levi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Wasn't the segment aimed at Fox and CNN?
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think it was aimed at just about every news outlet. This isn't about party lines, it's about media getting away with anything by simply adding a question mark. Doesn't matter what your story is or who it is favouring, it still works.
Oops, I meant: it still works? - dancpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The next thing they should do is show how the news gets away with bias by quoting people who agree with their bias. If it's an interview then they bring out the biased quote and ask for a response.
- Adenosine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8The Daily Show is definetly the best show on TV?
- dmh11686, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2This was interesting but I did not like that he attacked Neil Cavuto. Neil is one of the best anchors on TV. He constantly has people on who agree and disagree with him and he is a great interviewer. John just showed his liberal slant like most of the FoxNews hating people.
- Catchpen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cavuto probably laughed about it too. Much like when guests or fans make fun of his big head.

- jhahl, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3As brilliant as the Daily Show is, does it really require to be posted and dugg every single day?
- eMuleDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That was great. The writers at The Daily Show are geniuses. No question about it. ;)
- sciencebase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Daily Show dugg every day?
- anewname, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Fox News? Needs to buy a grammar handbook? Someone needs to run their headlines through MS Word or even Google to check things before they go out on national television?
A headline in the video reads: "Why is america more concerned about economy then terror?" - paulryan21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Jon Stewart for President !!!!!!
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am sorry. But this is NOT a question. Or is it?
- Megladon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Way funny, had to watch it twice.
- johnqmedia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I want this man to be my President. If he ran in 08, I would vote for him without question. He is perhaps the only person I have ever seen on TV who I feel understands what's really wrong with America.
- inajeep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Dugg, wish I could digg it again. Funny as hell.
- djgargamel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1YANNI!
- DrBeaverhausen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Its kind of a sad sign when a "fake" news show is more real then the "real" news.
- djgargamel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sad, yet highly entertaining.
Wait, I mean- Sad, yet highly entertaining? - zeero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5true that.
news is all brainwash to keep you terrified and in check so you can hand over your rights at the slightest "terrorist threat"
- djgargamel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sad, yet highly entertaining.
- craigily, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if john stewart ran for president, would his writing staff be his cabinet? btw this is one of the best i've seen from the daily show!
- Cornloaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2After about 20 of these diggs to YouTube videos, I figured it all out. Stick around after watching the main video and you'll see links to some other videos. These will be the next couple of stories that will be on Digg. It happened with this one and the helicopter falling apart. I was wondering where some of this uninteresting crap was coming from. I can't wait to see "Dog puts hat on owner's head" video.
- d00fy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ahh that's good stuff. d00fy blind to reality? That's some great journalistic articulance that I'll be using for my blog.

- zorvi4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This news progam always seem to find a way to bring out the things that most people ignore to look at in the media. After watching this program off and on for a couple of years I have really learned how to read between the lines of mainstream news programs.
- bobcatgrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We all have, zor.
More people need to think for themselves. Too many Americans watch Fox News with their brains turned off and accept it all as fact. 99% of what you see on Faux News is opinion; right wing, neo-conservative, uber-rich opinion.
- bobcatgrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We all have, zor.
