- TheKingInYellow, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1for something as large as a vehicle i would have expected a particle mist used as a layer mask...but giant squares work...i guess.

- TheKingInYellow, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1actually it's not the extrude filter. it's a series of squares used in a layer mask.

- remccain, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4I'd like to be the first one to point out that with this new technology, getting rick-rolled is going to be *such* a pain-in-the-ass.

- overt, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2haha
It's Arrested Development, not a gay web comic.
- overt, on 09/16/2008, -1/+15LET THE GREAT EXPERIMENT BEGIN!
- adrames, on 09/16/2008, -0/+17Oh, it’s so cute. She sometimes takes a little pack of mayonnaise, and she’ll squirt it in her mouth, and then she’ll take an egg and kind of.. *mmmm*. She calls it a “mayon-egg.” Are you okay?

- eSentrik, on 09/16/2008, -0/+6Welcome to the Internets!
- Crazymaniacc, on 09/15/2008, -7/+83So how does it upload?
- jester55, on 09/15/2008, -3/+70Hmm i assume that you're not actually downloading the car, but the information needed for a machine to build it from scratch. So you would have to have a seperate machine that would build the car, and the computer just downloads the "schematics" the machine uses.
- y2kery, on 09/16/2008, -3/+4Hmm. That makes sense. Seem like you put a lot of though into that. Well done.
- StormTroopr, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2The future of RepRap perhaps?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reprap - chrono7, on 09/17/2008, -0/+0That would be so awesome
- DrDragun, on 09/15/2008, -0/+39CAD Schematics. The raw materials to build the car would have to somehow be available to the machine.
Or maybe it would just suck in air and smash the air nitrogen atoms together with nuclear fusion to make iron and such.- Nitesmoke, on 09/15/2008, -0/+82No no, a Torrent Replicator works by rearranging subatomic particles, which are abundant everywhere in the universe, to form molecules and arrange those molecules to form the object. For example, to create a SUV, the replicator would first form atoms of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, etc., then arrange them into various plastics, cloths, and metals. This process requires the destructive conversion of bulk matter into energy and its subsequent reformation into a pre-scanned matter pattern. In principle, this is similar to the transporter, but on a smaller scale. However, unlike transporters, which duplicate matter at the quantum level, replicators must be capable of a large number of different materials on demand. If patterns were to be stored at the quantum level, an impossible amount of data storage (or a set of original copies of the materials) would be required. To resolve this, patterns are stored in memory at the molecular level.
- damian7, on 09/16/2008, -2/+5WTF
- AnOMNOMymous, on 09/16/2008, -22/+1Or maybe this isn't ***** real, morons.

That sounded really science-y so I'm going to believe everything you said. - lyonzy90, on 09/16/2008, -1/+0@nitesmoke
I read that and the first thing I thought was what would happen when you tried to get those subatomic particles, apparently by splitting atoms... bang...
- PhotonCannon, on 09/16/2008, -0/+6Can I upload myself?
- kingfoot, on 09/16/2008, -1/+6or how bout just my penis?

- sexybobo, on 09/15/2008, -1/+21.nfo stands for info it has been around for a long time then microsoft decided to make system info files be named .nfo also and set system information to be the default program.
Just open it in notepad. - merreborn, on 09/15/2008, -1/+23For software, half the time, you need to read the .nfo 'cause it has instructions for instruction/circumventing copy protection.
e.g., there's a serial number in there sometimes. You should ALWAYS read the .nfo before installing.
But yeah... for media-based torrents (video, audio), .nfo files are pretty useless to the end user. Of course, if it weren't for the guys who put the file in there, you wouldn't have the torrent in the first place, so do you really have a right to bitch? - crazycraka, on 09/16/2008, -0/+14And in your glove box you will find a piece of paper (.txt) that says, Downloaded from Demonoid.com :)

- otto989, on 09/15/2008, -3/+29YOU WOULDN'T STEAL A CAR

- Recessive, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4Man these ads are getting harsh.
- Konrad9, on 09/16/2008, -3/+2God no. It'd probably be in Chinese and people would jump out in front of my car on their way to the bathrooms.
Stop lights would exist but they'd only be red and disappear after a second.
The manual would only have the first few pages, and the whole thing would be a really grainy. - medeshago, on 09/16/2008, -2/+3And when the torrent finishes you receive midget porn instead of a car.
- badassninja, on 09/16/2008, -2/+6Bring it all back to stealing or not stealing. I would not steal a car. But I would clone or copy one in a ***** heart beat. Toyota can cry their eyes out. Soon there would have to be open source projects on every day ideas like cars and food. It's the only responsible thing for society to do. Just like open source software.
- Ghoztt, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4Yeah, I would clone and copy a car.
WTF? You wouldn't? - lycao25, on 09/16/2008, -1/+1Not with these gas prices.

- stix213, on 09/15/2008, -0/+9I think you actually didn't understand the picture...
- mark076h, on 09/16/2008, -5/+1can you explain to me what you think the picture is about? you and the people that dugg my comment down are the ones that have no clue what they are looking at , it is probably a concept beyond your comprehension anyways.
- otros, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5Oh my! pretentious much?
- stix213, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4LOLZ!!!!! If you have even heard of torrents then you can figure it out pretty easily.... and it doesn't have anything to do with the coming singularity. idiot
(it sounds like you are trying to read way too far into this image)
If you need more explaining, I'm sure there is an elementary school full of kids near you who can explain this for you. You likely also have the phone number for your local psychiatric hospital saved in your contacts... feel free to call them if you think you are having one of your "tough times" again as well. - tm13lke, on 09/16/2008, -0/+6@mark076h
It's not a concept beyond anyone's comprehension. It's a couple kids downloading a Pontiac Torrent. 'Cause it's a torrent. Get it?

- SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/16/2008, -0/+17This why you should always check the comments first. ALWAYS.
- JT114881, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5Scan with antivirus first. Use firewall.
- SuicideMouse, on 09/15/2008, -6/+24I know we are joking around here but I feel like talking hypothetically about the future here, maybe someone want's to join in on a serious/tech conversation/debate here, on Digg, like we used to.
I'm just going to bring up copying people here because obviously there is way to much to talk about and this will already be a large comment.
Think about this. If/when we reach a point in technology where doing something like this is possible then that could actually be a serious worry. Would you really trust a torrent (obviously it could be something else but I will use torrent technology for ease of understanding) called "Keeley_Hazel_STDSTIRemoved.PROPER.SXXO"?
I mean, it *could* be possible for someone to successfully do this, it's all just data after all, but would you really trust that they've done it correctly?
On top of that, created viruses, similar to ones we have today, could quite literally affect you, not you're PC.
They could potentially do anything, kill you, wipe your memories, cause you to join an army, war group or gang, get you to spread propaganda on your free time and you might never even know it. Whatever examples I could give I know you'll have thought of many more so I'll stop on that point.
How could you get infected? Well what if you just downloaded LSD, Heroin, Antidepressants or even some customized drug that's like THC with effects lasting 24 hours? You take it, it had a virus in it, and there you go.
Another example is simply how we can get current ones, like ZeeZee2k said. Sleep with a downloaded partner, someone could have removed their AIDS/Herpes/whatever but they also could have added their own, built to work the same way.
Then what about her personality, does she own the right to not be copied? Would it be OK to just copy her body and insert whatever personality you made or downloaded, that came from someone who donated it or it was made from scratch? Is her body up for grabs (no pun intended) or can she sue for that too? Wouldn't it make scandals as easy to forge as a paper airplane? "Hey look! Obama's ***** a guy!"...
Where and what would be the lines?
I feel it would be morally OK to copy a car, but a person? It provokes deep thought for me and I'm left thinking I would be morally against it, however... I might just copy myself to have conversations that should technically be impossible then maybe I'd kill them (which brings up even more moral issues). Oh, and to have sex with myself, I say this because I know someone else would insinuate this as my real intention.
.
(P.S. I am not trying to insult Keeley Hazel or insinuate that she has any STDs or anything, I have no idea if she does, she was just a hot girl to use for my example, sorry Hazel)- bangalter, on 09/16/2008, -0/+19YEAH... Wait, what?
- adougy, on 09/16/2008, -0/+24http://www.spreeder.com/
- Gatesophile, on 09/16/2008, -0/+13Someone would have to take the fall, and download the "torrent" and try it to see if there's a virus. Then comment to the rest of the community the results. That's how it works nowadays.
Maybe we could have human antivirus products, that warn you when you are about to take something with a virus. - jprewitt7, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3Good point
- AnOMNOMymous, on 09/16/2008, -6/+6tldr
- SuicideMouse, on 09/16/2008, -0/+8@Gatesophile: Well you could "take the fall" in the sense of bandwidth (though clearly we have no idea if that would be an issue in the future) but you could just get the "download" tested for all the known viruses and STD/STI. Of course, like today, some might get past that defense line, it would still be fairly risky.
I had thought of Human AV products, like you, but since my post was already quite large I cut it out and saved you all from another paragraph (which I guess I'm dealing out now in an even larger amount).
The thing is we are reaching really far into the unknown, so really anything is possible, but we (as humans) have a hard time not thinking about these things from our current standpoint, seeing current issues and flaws, that may not actually be even a minuscule problem or one at all in the future.
Thinking in the "current" mindset I would be worried that any Human AV (HAV) could be bypassed and also that you would have a product from another company, that you may or may not entirely trust, INSIDE of you. Personally that freaks me out a bit, not to say I wouldn't be in for doing it but it makes me a little anxious.
I would think that a HAV would be better to warn you if you are about to do something that may put you in risk of contracting a virus rather then finding them once you have them, like a condom, not an antibiotic. However I would think both would be implemented together, as well as something to scan potential things you might use for any virus like behavior. However I'm left thinking that if you got a serious virus you would have to go to a hospital where the main faculty are pretty much technology gurus. This also leaves the idea of having backups of "you" to restore to. It sounds really ***** but losing a week to a few months (would hope you'd backup more often then that) is a lot better then losing your entire memories and personality. Although even that leaves the question "can you backup something that we are still not sure exists within the brain" however we can leave that to the future to find out.
Of course we still have yet to discuss if it is actual morally OK (answers will obviously be personal, not objective) to copy someone, or even part of them. I'm not sure where I stand on that, I believe I have the right to copy myself and if I wanted to, upload myself to share with anyone who wanted me, though I'd choose to only give my body, nothing of my personality or memories but I don't think it would be OK to copy others who have not willingly shared that part of themselves, as in, no stolen or leaked copies of people or parts of like memories. - Rookie25, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2interesting topic you've brought up here. is it really an issue for us though? what you're talking about is the ability to actually copy a person. i don't think we'll have that problem to worry about in our lifetimes...
- Regoolian, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4In this future, we could download the thing into a virtual world and see if it messes up our virtual self. Then if it's good bring it to RL.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3Human anti-virus? I certainly hope not. By that time we had better had worked out a default-deny security/immune system for everyone. My body shouldn't be processing any foreign proteins or organisms unless I've typed in my root password (so to speak).
- dougwastaken, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5i was half expecting to be bell-aired on these posts.
- otros, on 09/16/2008, -0/+3Regoolian makes the best point, you just have to "run it" on some kind of self-VM.
- LeviTheSmith, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2I couldn't be ***** reading all that but i dugg you for the effort
- remccain, on 09/16/2008, -0/+6How many people would create a copy of themselves for the purpose of one helluva threesome?
- blacksteve0, on 09/16/2008, -0/+15Hows about Megan_Fox.torrent instead?
- EskNerd, on 09/16/2008, -4/+18Can't wait to get my Lucy Liu-bot from (Kid)Nappster

- bow1213, on 09/15/2008, -6/+193I can't wait to torrent one of those, but I wonder if people will seed. I'd hate being stuck at 98% with no CD changer.
- rebirf, on 09/16/2008, -1/+5It wouldn't be the cd changer it'd be a 2% that the car couldn't run without.
- frieddonuts, on 09/16/2008, -0/+12My guess is that VLC could run it even with some pieces missing. I heard the new version assimilates molecular gaps quite well.
- chasebadkids, on 09/15/2008, -8/+2If only life was this easy! Then I wouldn't have to be reading this article while WORKING, I could just torrent everything in life :-)
- kefkaantakrist, on 09/15/2008, -0/+1Except I think you'd still need to buy the raw materials?
- paraforce, on 09/15/2008, -4/+613D printers will be awesome
- xptoast, on 09/15/2008, -1/+43D printers would be sweet if they used nanobots. That way you could change the car on a daily basis and have it fixed and upgraded as time goes on. Nanobots would make the industrial world insanely much better. We would be able to be on top of our game once again here in the USA. Screw selling the tech to other countries. We would make more ourselves.
- AnOMNOMymous, on 09/16/2008, -1/+6Until they turned against us...
- Billistic, on 09/15/2008, -0/+2Aw kids, you're both right! Now settle down and lets get some ice cream!
- mclewell, on 09/16/2008, -0/+4Too bad that there are already 3D printers... just google it.
- paraforce, on 09/16/2008, -0/+5I meant when they're actually available to the typical consumer, and when they'll have the capability to print out cool *****, not just the kinds of plastic crap you get from museums.
- ortnerseb, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2my architecture office uses 3D printers.
- Astranagun, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2that is if the goverment allows you to own it.

- glucoseboy, on 09/15/2008, -2/+5Oh yeah!

- Rendonsmug, on 09/15/2008, -2/+19could this percentage be over 9000?
- The0, on 09/15/2008, -14/+3Pretty sure I meant 100%. I said "try again" to void the two digits that were already there, that way you could start over and try with a three digit number.
It's not nearly as funny if I have to explain it to you. - EvoPsy, on 09/16/2008, -1/+5It really is too bad you had to explain it... that was ***** hilarious. I can hardly take it.

- Jeepy, on 09/15/2008, -13/+2I know this is a joke and all but torrents don't really have a future. Once the Grid is online people won't need to compress files anymore for p2p. Full gig files wouldn't take much longer to d/l than a flash site takes to load. Anyway back to enjoying a pretty funny joke :)
- FlimBlimmer, on 09/15/2008, -2/+2Technology fail.
Progress fail. - FreakinRepublic, on 09/16/2008, -1/+1do you even know how a torrent works? theres no compression unless per the hosts discretion. wiki that ***** then get back to me. fail is too soft of a word...how bout catastrophic fail?

- Atom, on 09/15/2008, -9/+4I think Naked Women would have been the much more appropriate thing to get traded over torrents. At least if you look at the current trends of internet traffic.

- Alex2, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2Nope. A station wagon would have to pass a car safety standard.
When you label it an SUV, the safety standard is much less.
- Alex2, on 09/16/2008, -1/+2Nope. A station wagon would have to pass a car safety standard.
- DefaultGen, on 09/16/2008, -0/+1I didn't know cars based on file sharing protocols even existed!

- Vich, on 09/16/2008, -1/+3I torrented that ad once, got 200 downloads in one night.
- DefaultGen, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2When we can torrent cars how do you think companies will screw over the legit buyers? Force them to take an anti-car-piracy class right after purchasing their car? Or better yet, go the DVD route and remind them not to pirate cars every time they turn the key, before allowing them to drive.
- EgaoNoGenki, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2That's why we ought to download cars whose companies don't exist anymore. Take Packard & DeLorean, for instance.
- CCmachined, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2piracy == ***** for that reason alone.
pestering legit buyers is the only thing the artists / companies can do. there's no way to get someone outta the internets.
