It's just incredibly annoying and offers the user very little creative control. It's like a step back to Friendster, but with a ton of annoying "apps" and groups. I still prefer Myspace overall, more for the Music part of it, but they all suck.

You know, the ones who click on advertisements disguised as dialog boxes and then wonders why their computer has a virus.       I refuse to believe that, if this is real, it's the result of a close-knit group of friends rather than a lot of acquaintances. The 67 new messages (actually, probably more than that, as it's 67 message "threads") helps to imply that all these invites and messages were gathered as someone logged off for a long, long time. You'd think that if the guy or girl who took the screenshot kept Facebook friends to people he actually talked to regularly on Facebook, they all would have figured out a while ago that he wasn't replying to messages, application invites, and I assume stopped writing on walls or sending messages himself. So I have to assume that the messages and invites were gathered over months and sent by acquaintances or even strangers that didn't know better and didn't care enough about the guy or girl to check their profile and see how inactive they were.

I met 2 people in Munich about a month back and found out we are all from Vancouver, now we're all good friends thanks to the social networking that Facebooks provides.

        It's core use still applies, that has never dissapeared, it's just mired in many unneccesary uses as well.

        And the core use of Facebook was for finding people in your school and in your classes. That functionality is almost completely gone. In fact, I believe Facebook actually retired the original "courses" application because no one used it anymore, then some kid created it again as an app and people started using it... and now no one uses that one either.

Though, the only reason that I got it however is because I think it's a great concept for getting others and giving away your contact information to your friends. Since about every single one of my friends got Facebook, if I for example change my phone number, everyone will instantly know about it without me having to mass email them or similar.

        The apps, the wall-thingy I don't care about, but if it makes people keep using Facebook, fine by me.

Make sure only your friends can see your profile. Any real life friends will tell you they have Facebook, or you can find them and add them.
