- FadieZ, on 05/22/2008, -26/+2161It's called Kung-Fujifilm
- Indierocka, on 05/22/2008, -14/+493PUNBELIEVABLE!!! Digg up
- Merendino, on 05/22/2008, -29/+3Yours wasn't bad either.
- awtripp, on 05/22/2008, -9/+191these aren't your regular puns -- these are ENERGY PUNS! TUUURBBOOO PUNS!!
- cawpin, on 05/22/2008, -10/+29Oh COME ON PEOPLE! How can you Digg down Powerthirst?
- PaulOwen, on 05/22/2008, -37/+22Defintely in China, not Japan.
The mainsbox in the second picture says 危險.
In Japanese it's written slightly differently as 危険.
And kung-fu is definitely Chinese. - wellyuk, on 05/22/2008, -4/+24@PaulOwen,
The accuracy police are not welcome. We'll have no trouble here! - djpants428, on 05/22/2008, -4/+2HEY PAUL!!!!!!!!
- Indierocka, on 05/22/2008, -0/+7Preposterone!!!!
- PaulOwen, on 05/22/2008, -17/+3Oh what the heck! Who cares about details like Chinese, Japanese - they all look the same anyway, right?
(I hope this makes you feel better) - Markpdotcom, on 05/22/2008, -2/+4Wow... to liven up this pun-tastic thread, I was recently in China and do you know why Asian people throw up the peace sign when in photos? Apparently it means "happy"... so there you go, every day is a school day ;)
- ShrimpCrackers, on 05/23/2008, -3/+2"Kung-fu-tography" is also a stereotype of Chinese people throughout Asia. It is because a lot of these poses look silly and not really that acceptable in many other Asian societies. In many other places you're expected to stand straight.
But that is not the only surprise you get when you visit China. I could easily go into stand up stalls (very hard to get used to, seriously) and the fact that often its communal in most apartments (forget private baths), food quality (they eat anything in China), lack of highway demarcations (often times they don't bother painting the road lines) and so forth. Fun and games, everyone should visit and compare with the stark contrast with Japan. - ShrimpCrackers, on 05/23/2008, -2/+7Oh and my biggest surprise in China was that lots of kids don't wear diapers, they just have a hole in their pants. Apparently its because a lot of the elders in China frown upon diapers. They think its irresponsible. Here's the China Anti-Diaper proof (it still goes on, saw a woman stick her child outside the window of a bus while it was still moving two years ago in Guangzhou so the kid could *****, there was a video sent out when this Mom let her kid crap on the subway in Hong Kong [culture conflict between Mainland China and Hong Kong]):

http://my.en.com/~mcq/china.html - teexcue, on 05/23/2008, -1/+3Sorry, but it's, "these aren't your dad's puns..." not, "regular puns"
- WhatsUpWithJack, on 05/23/2008, -0/+6KENYANS!!!
- notoneofus, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2@Markpdotcom: The "peace sign" in photos comes from the US occupation of Japan after WWII. Japanese people picked up on the V for victory sign and it ended up becoming the thing everyone does in photos.
- AmICoolNow, on 05/23/2008, -5/+26Jesus Christ...that's enough PUNishment for one day.
- cj485, on 05/23/2008, -4/+1christ, this is about as punny as those bear puns a week ago.
- skyroket, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1This is much more bearable than those.
- tharju, on 05/22/2008, -50/+4The appropriate title should be "This is How Asians Take Photos".
I don't think ppl from that photo are not Japanese judging by what their clothing style.- consoneo, on 05/22/2008, -4/+48Your double negative negated the entire point of your post.
- DforSpiD, on 05/22/2008, -2/+7Well YOUR not double negative didn't not negate the point of your post!
- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -0/+3Well he's got a point, people in Japan don't dress like that.
- reinster, on 05/22/2008, -7/+2I agree with you, I believe at least the 3rd and 4th pictures are either Chinese or Korean.
- Myonosken, on 05/22/2008, -8/+3They're all the same.
- sauronsmatrix, on 05/23/2008, -2/+2Absolutely not, you racist.
- consoneo, on 05/22/2008, -4/+48Your double negative negated the entire point of your post.
- JonnyMark, on 05/22/2008, -22/+234PUN-litically incorrect!!
Kung Fu is Chinese..- Absinthminded64, on 05/22/2008, -3/+51I'm thinking since they made the camera they know best how to use it. Obviously the rest of us have been doing it wrong!
Wide Stance photography FTW!- EllimistX, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2Senator Craig?
- snareguy17, on 05/22/2008, -4/+18Your posting privileges are hereby revoked.
- diggimator, on 05/22/2008, -0/+7So if the photographers are Chinese, then it'll be OK?
- skyroket, on 05/22/2008, -2/+2I can't tell whether the people in the picture are Chinese or Japanese.
- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -1/+3They're Chinese, but if they were Japanese, the Kung Fujifilm thing is just too Chinese of a label to apply to Japanese...
- swiftekho, on 05/23/2008, -9/+2http://op-for.com/pearl%20harbor1.jpg
That's how the Japanese take photos. - kss42, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1But Fujifilm is a Ja-pun-ese com-pun-y. It's quite a pun paradox - or perhaps a pun-undrum.
- Absinthminded64, on 05/22/2008, -3/+51I'm thinking since they made the camera they know best how to use it. Obviously the rest of us have been doing it wrong!
- doctechnical, on 05/22/2008, -7/+51Cam-kata.
- cutekelvins, on 05/22/2008, -13/+2Photo photo, everyone is taking photo.
- Cowboy1015, on 05/22/2008, -1/+1what the hell???

- Contrast27, on 05/22/2008, -0/+11I hate you with a passion.
- Cheddar79, on 05/22/2008, -5/+78How is it that a top-class comment inevitably always gets three diggs down? Who are those guys?
- IllBeBack, on 05/22/2008, -2/+43They're just jealous.
- kawstick, on 05/22/2008, -5/+13I had to digg you down so you had -3
- Patori, on 05/22/2008, -3/+22Scientologists.
:3 - Cheddar79, on 05/22/2008, -7/+10Mine wasn't a top-class comment. Damn you diggers...now my theory doesn't work!!
- ophello, on 05/22/2008, -81/+42It's called framing a shot properly. Pros do this all the time. Apparently, so do the Japanese.
Most people cant take pictures worth *****, they just point and shoot without thinking about the background or composition. What better way to crouch than drop into forward stance? Comfortable and stable. Looks funny, but their shots are probably decent.
The kung-fu references in this thread are pretty low brow, but what do I expect? This is digg, which is overrun by 12-year-olds.- Zzone, on 05/22/2008, -11/+55man stop bitching, im sure you take terrible photos too.
- ophello, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1im a graphic design major, ive taken 3 photography courses. my work was featured in the university magazine.
these arent bragging rights, it just goes to show you dont know what you're talking about.
- ophello, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1im a graphic design major, ive taken 3 photography courses. my work was featured in the university magazine.
- Hypersapien, on 05/22/2008, -5/+11Dude. Look at those poses again and tell me they don't look like martial arts stances.
Ok, maybe not the girl.- skyroket, on 05/22/2008, -2/+11She's just bowing to her sensai.
- coresnake, on 05/22/2008, -8/+5The guy in the picture isn't doing forward stance he's doing shikodachi, dumbass.
- acroyear2, on 05/22/2008, -8/+2I'm sorry both those are straight up hidden tiger stances. I take good photos. I make a funny stance but not like that. I do more of a lean back, put my weight on my back foot, kind of thing. A couple those guys are straight up ninjas.
- wildchild77, on 05/22/2008, -2/+1I agree. I'm a "semi-pro," which just means I get paid for it, and I don't look like a ninja.
- scubaman5000, on 05/22/2008, -1/+36Laughter - You should try it.
The world isn't always serious business my friend, lighten up and smile with the rest of us.- juliustan, on 05/22/2008, -10/+2Yep, lets laugh at other cultures. Ignorance is bliss.
- recruz, on 05/22/2008, -6/+4if you have trouble making fun of other cultures, i feel sorry for you. don't think for one second that they would ever make jokes about americans- oh god no ... america has the greatest culture in the world - there's nothing funny about stupid, fat, lazy americans
- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -9/+3Yeah let's laugh about something Chinese that has nothing to do with being Japanese. Kung Fu is Chinese, all Asians are not the same, the pun was retarded. But we should lighten up, before the white kids get insulted that nobody likes their jokes at the expense of pissing off others. Oh, so sorry, please forgive me... Would you like some land and resources to go with that?
The sad part, the people taking the photos in this aren't even Japanese but have been labeled as such. I didn't even look at the images before I ranted this, I thought hey they must be from Japan if it says so in the title, turns out they ain't even Japanese.. Seriously. Baka gaijins.. - DephexTwin, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2@recruz
You have a good joke about Americans? What makes you think we wouldn't enjoy it? - ToRoE, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1internet srs bsns!
- luet, on 05/23/2008, -2/+2boombye: how can you refute racism then in the same paragraph insult people with white skin? Do you think it's right to only defend one side of an argument? Jeez some people are messed in the head.
- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -10/+2What do you expect? Digg is over run by white people who think that making a reference to something Chinese somehow has something to do with the Japanese culture, they can't be bothered to tell the difference. Then you'll be told to lighten up because they do nothing wrong or offensive by mistaking your culture with that of another, one they most often mix you up for because they don't know the difference between the cultures or can't tell a Japanese apart from a Chinese dude. Maybe, just maybe, if they had more than just one or two Asian friends they'd be able to tell the difference, but until then, sympathize with them and be more understanding, don't hurt their feelings by calling them bakas because they mistake your culture for another's and act like it's all the same.
- Melun91, on 05/22/2008, -2/+3Buried for being too long for me to read.
- Colesif, on 05/22/2008, -1/+12Wow, you're quite the buzz kill.
- suedeb, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4so you're japanese then?
- frisk415, on 05/23/2008, -1/+2You already know he thought of that pun for days before he posted the article. Nonetheless punny as *****.
- Zzone, on 05/22/2008, -11/+55man stop bitching, im sure you take terrible photos too.
- christof53, on 05/22/2008, -2/+20Puns of Fun
- Gravey9, on 05/22/2008, -6/+5it's called trying to make a tiny nation look bigger
- RoyHobbs, on 05/22/2008, -1/+15"That's Gold Jerry!! Gold!!"
- recruz, on 05/22/2008, -4/+5i wonder what stance the guy who was taking THESE pictures was in ...
- skyroket, on 05/22/2008, -2/+3I don't know how it gets +0/-0 diggs, but you got it somehow. Maybe you're just a figment of your own imagination.
- Combat, on 05/22/2008, -2/+5They do this to make themselves seem taller in the photo.
- Cowboy1015, on 05/22/2008, -3/+7It's hemorrhoids.
- mostfynest, on 05/22/2008, -1/+3Makes sense, they're creating an ultra stable platform with their legs to stop the camera from shakin and movin, a perfectionists shot, awesome!
- ClevelandBrown, on 05/22/2008, -12/+1Kung Fu is chinese you twit, but then again I'm sure all asians and their cultures look identical to you now, don't they?
- Gndoab, on 05/22/2008, -0/+7you know I hear this alot..."ignorant white people, can't tell the difference between a chinese person, japanese person, or korean person."
Hate to say it, but I can't tell the difference between white people either! they are all white!
Sure, I can deffinitally say that a Swedish person isn't Itlaian, just like I can say a Korean person isn't Cambodian.
America is a mixing pot....white, black, asian, indian....God forbid we can't tell exactly what country and what province and what town someone's family was from before they emigrated here..- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Telling the difference between a Korean and a Cambodian is easy for me. Telling the difference between a Cambodian and a Thai person can be confusing because they're like right next to each other, plus lots of Cambodians sought refuge in Thailand before, so I can see where I'd be mistaken..
- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -6/+1Oh stop that, now you're offending the white people with the truth. They'll digg you down for pointing out their ignorance.
average white digger: "hey you chinese people look japanese to me"
his friends: "yeah they sure doooooooooooo"
then they get corrected and are like "well screw you for setting me straight, it's not like i care to be corrected anyways, because they all look the same to me, so i can't be bothered to give a damn, stop ruining the fun please, so i can be more offensive"
- Gndoab, on 05/22/2008, -0/+7you know I hear this alot..."ignorant white people, can't tell the difference between a chinese person, japanese person, or korean person."
- tehknotte, on 05/22/2008, -3/+5OFFENDS!!!!

- zkwang, on 05/23/2008, -0/+3I think the wrong guy is holding the camera down in the lower right corner.
- TheSuperunknown, on 05/23/2008, -1/+7Holy hell that's a lot of diggs.
- yuanzhoulu, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1so often i've seen them carrying DSLRs and not doing anything whatsoever to take advantage of the DSLR's beauty and just taking bland shots of people in front of tourist attractions that you could just as well do with a point-and-shoot.
- volume909, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1You definately win the Comment of the Year Award.
- infinityofnever, on 05/23/2008, -0/+4Note to self: To get diggers excited, initiate pun-making machine.

- Iwantawii, on 05/22/2008, -2/+20As a man of japanese descent, I take offense to that comment long time.
- ozkr, on 05/22/2008, -2/+1When you stop for a second to think about how funny and/or relevant Larry Craig Jokes really are, while at the same time wondering why, you'll find out they're neither relevant nor funny. The media tried to make it relevant to your life, and late night comedians tried to make it funny, but both failed miserably. Don't believe me? Try to remember all the conversations in your real life with real people that involved people late night comedians make fun of (like Paris Hilton or Larry Craig). Were they even funny?

- Mononuclear, on 05/22/2008, -11/+83This is how I take pictures also when I want a different angle. How else are you supposed to take a picture from a lower height without bending down or squatting?
- ho0ber, on 05/22/2008, -2/+17Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, though I usually just kneel because I'm not too worried about my jeans.

- Bisqwit, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2Squatting puts you too low, and bending hurts the back and the neck, as you still need to focus forward and not down.

- diggimator, on 05/22/2008, -10/+6Maybe it's a trend in China to call anyone looking stupid as being from Japan instead. An educated guess would say these shots are taken in China, while the photographers could be from any East Asian country, although their dress and haircut does not make them look out of place amongst the Chinese.
These photos don't describe anything that is unique to Japan. If anything, it just shows these photographers have better skills at taking more stable pictures. - Harbinger67, on 05/22/2008, -15/+9How can they be from China? I don't see any oppression.

- diggdong, on 05/22/2008, -9/+1The wide stance is for the foot cam.
- tarrmachine, on 05/22/2008, -7/+24I hope they are stretching before taking pictures.
- mikbor, on 05/22/2008, -20/+26of course they take pictures like that, asians discovered that taking a picture at lower angles = better shots. Try it
ps they also invented engrish, widely considered the most elegant language in existence today. asians are awesome all around- Psythik, on 05/22/2008, -0/+8It usually works best when taking a photo of someone in front of a large object. For example, instead of backing up very far to get both your friends and the Statue of Liberty in the frame, stay close to them and get low, angling the camera up to get the statue in the frame. What results is a much more dynamic and up-and-personal shot, as opposed to your friends looking like the size of ants.
- mookieXL, on 05/22/2008, -1/+6In addition as for them the most elegant language and today of existence doing, they invented engrish which is considered, widely. The Asian person it keeps being surprised entirely
- oscenester, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1what??? is that even engrish?
- Vincent21212, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1Indeed it is. I just wonder, where does he get his engrish translation app from?
- coresnake, on 05/22/2008, -4/+3They take pics low down to make the people in them look tall. I'm not makin this ***** up
- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1Or maybe to get the big ass tourist location into the shot. Say you're standing in front of an old buddhist temple, you going to just take a level picture and cut off the top half of the picture showing the structure of the temple?
- Vincent21212, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1That was my first thought.
- Puppyfam, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2I completely agree. But there must be a less awkward way to get those angles than some of the crazy stances they're using... Squatting maybe?
- Scaryclouds, on 05/23/2008, -0/+2Oops wrong thread.
- Kronk42583, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1it may make you look taller, but it can also make you look weird and fat. all you see sometimes in neck and chin. not flattering.
- Soken, on 05/22/2008, -12/+161pretty sure those people are Chinese, lol
- christophe971, on 05/22/2008, -3/+17same here.
- analogkid01, on 05/22/2008, -5/+33My thoughts exactly. Slanted eyes and a camera in-hand does not necessarily mean "Japanese."
- omnivoross, on 05/22/2008, -0/+17looks like it's around the forbidden city in beijing
- diggdiggerid, on 05/22/2008, -4/+2uh, why would chinese people be taking pictures if they live there?? It's more likely that they're Japanese tourists taking pictures.
- Y0tsuya, on 05/22/2008, -0/+4China has 1.3 billion people, with less than 20 million living in metropolitan Beijing. So, no, they don't live there.
- Soken, on 05/22/2008, -0/+8or they are Chinese tourist visiting the forbidden city
for example, Americans who lived in Ohio will take pictures in New York City if they visit there; China is a big place.
I am Chinese and I assure you that those people are blatantly Chinese lol - boombye, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1China is a pretty huge place, they might be from visiting provinces, you moron. Do you know the commute time from Western China to Eastern China? Not everyone takes a plane, some people take road trips. Try pulling out a map and compare the size of China to the US.
Plus who the hell would dress like that in Japan? You need to travel buddy.
- diggdiggerid, on 05/22/2008, -4/+2uh, why would chinese people be taking pictures if they live there?? It's more likely that they're Japanese tourists taking pictures.
- riah, on 05/22/2008, -0/+8Yep... my Chinese stat teacher used similar stances to write low on the marker board. Seemed odd at first, but is probably more comfortable than bending your back for long periods of time (sans tight pants.)
- HannibalLecter, on 05/22/2008, -1/+13Yeah, these guys are Chinese. Not just from the clothes they're wearing, but also the hairstyles, and the fact that the place they're taking the pictures is in China (note the architectural style of the stone bridge, for instance).
- Scaryclouds, on 05/23/2008, -2/+1Since we all know stone bridges do not exist in Japan...
I agree with you that it is likely Chinese people, but come on saying you can tell it is China because "of a stone bridge" is liking saying you know a cartoon is fake because the shadows don't match up.- DIAF, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1The point he was making was that it is a Chinese style stone bridge, not just a stone bridge. You wont see that type of stone detailing in Japan.
- Scaryclouds, on 05/23/2008, -2/+1Since we all know stone bridges do not exist in Japan...
- UNDERSTAR, on 05/23/2008, -6/+1How can you tell??? They all look the same to me.
- Snuffs, on 05/22/2008, -13/+6thats not racist or anything *sarcasm*
- lowspeedchase, on 05/22/2008, -6/+12hahahah the best is the one where the guy having his photo taken is standing up straight and still, but his photographer is crazy in motion.
- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -1/+3To capture the background which probably is hard to fit in the shot. You try fitting an entire temple into the shot featuring your lone friend.
- lowspeedchase, on 05/23/2008, -2/+1You are a squatting man sympathizer and must be dugg down. In related news, you have no sense of humor.
- boombye, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1I'll have a sense of humor when something like "This is how White people dance" gets dugg.
- lowspeedchase, on 05/23/2008, -1/+0Oh it was the asian thing that got you down huh? Breaking news, in addition to having no sense of humor, you are way too sensitive...

- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -1/+3To capture the background which probably is hard to fit in the shot. You try fitting an entire temple into the shot featuring your lone friend.
- jumico, on 05/22/2008, -17/+12White people also take photos like this
- WillSunrider, on 05/22/2008, -1/+1Pics or it didnt happen.
- acroyear2, on 05/22/2008, -0/+11White people take photos like this: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/193/502001072_7e4c7 ...
- Nitrouz, on 05/23/2008, -0/+1But we don't dance like that
- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -0/+2There's a reason why they're taking pics like that, it's not to just get the people in the shot, but also the structures behind them into the shot. Plus if you're trying to get Forbidden palace into the shot, you'd kind of want to angle yourself. It's one thing to just say "Oh here's us in front of this big place", but what the hell is the point of that if the structure is not in the shot or is cut off...

- MikeZ105, on 05/22/2008, -12/+5i don't see anything abnormal about it... so what if they get it the picture at a better angle to get a better shot?
- boombye, on 05/22/2008, -0/+1It's because the gaijins think the photographers are just taking pics of the people and can't be bothered to understand that they may be trying to fit something big in the background into the shot as well, instead of having it all focused on the people in the photo... It's one thing to say "hey this is me in front of...." but at least have what you're standing in front of, in the actual shot. This is most likely why, plus some tourists locations in China, such as old temples and palaces and what not are pretty big and wide,
