- num3thod, on 09/24/2008, -1/+75Turn it off.
- ConanMayerFan, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1this is a pie chart about procrastination-DM
- hahahafr, on 09/27/2008, -0/+1I ever wondered why was the installation process so slow.
- LuigiBrasile7, on 09/24/2008, -8/+21Adobe's updating process is really annoying... But Photoshop and Acrobat Pro are still worth the hassle.
- Chirp08, on 09/25/2008, -1/+4Agreed, the updates made huge differences when Leopard was released. Photoshop had numerous problems and I welcomed every update that was released. Then again I work with Photoshop/InDesign/Acrobat/Illustrator daily.
- poet, on 09/26/2008, -3/+1No real graphic designers use Mac lol.
- brundlefly76, on 09/25/2008, -1/+6The hassle, maybe - but not the freaking price.
I can buy an entire laptop with Vista installed for less then the price of Photoshop.- atomicfireball, on 09/25/2008, -3/+4Not one capable of running Photoshop, well, though :)
- jrowny, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5@atomicfireball
That's not true. You can get really nice dual core laptops for $600 easy! - Zzone, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2a laptop without photoshop is useless in the design world.
- Volatile, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2It's a professional program. It's not a toy. Most people don't really need it, and aren't really supposed to have access to it. Thank God for piracy, though.
- theodenking, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4Nobody buys Photoshop...
- brundlefly76, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Volatile: does that rationale (and the price) make you feel special when you're using it?
Adobe has been pulling this ***** for years - hell Premiere is $800 now and it is slower, buggier, and supports fewer formats compared to some consumer products at a fraction of the price.
Photoshop actually has a really crappy interface which hasn't been addressed in its entire history, its just 'the biggest pile of tools' that's bigger than others for reasons of legacy and market share. - brundlefly76, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Zzone: A laptop without Windows (or MacOS), is useless to *everyone*, both are much larger and more complex pieces of software, yet cost a fraction of Photoshop's price.
- sanosuke001, on 09/25/2008, -2/+3Acrobat isn't worth *****.
- loveandrockets, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1I had to stop at my local print shop to print something out from the web. My printer was on the fritz.
So, I hopped on the store computer and clicked on Acrobat Reader and watched it update....and update....and update....and then my document came up and I printed it out. It took me 4 minutes to start and 5 seconds to print.
- Chirp08, on 09/25/2008, -1/+4Agreed, the updates made huge differences when Leopard was released. Photoshop had numerous problems and I welcomed every update that was released. Then again I work with Photoshop/InDesign/Acrobat/Illustrator daily.
- BoneStamp, on 09/24/2008, -0/+33The ***** thing is that if you are using one of the programs, you have to close it to perform the update (understandable) BUT if you would rather update it later then it has to download the damn update again... how come it can't just save the file and apply it later, like prompt you when you close the program or shutdown windows?
- satanguy, on 09/25/2008, -7/+2that's dodgey as
- bsmang, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4Answer that and you may explain how acrobat/pdf got the way it is.
- WhiteUnit, on 09/25/2008, -2/+1It does save the file and run the install later. At least in CS3 it does.
- Fatcheeseguy, on 09/25/2008, -16/+83foxit reader
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php- atgmac, on 09/25/2008, -13/+32Oh so foxit make a photoshop killer now too?
- theragu40, on 09/25/2008, -1/+20Certainly not, but once you install their reader you'll never even consider installing Adobe Reader again.
- MagicHobo, on 09/25/2008, -7/+4Use the GIMP. http://www.gimp.org/
- mattlohkamp, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6@ atgmac - wait, are you being deliberately dense?
- arobar, on 09/25/2008, -0/+10What an inane comment. That obviously wasn't the point of the post, he specifically pointed out Foxit Reader. If you have Flash, Photoshop and Reader all prompting for updates and you can take one of them out of the mix, you've cut your annoyances by a third. Why discount the product because it doesn't solve 100% of your issues?
- atgmac, on 09/25/2008, -3/+2I suppose I have to spell it out. The fact that foxit make a nice PDF reader does not solve the problem. I still have 3 other adobe applications that can't be replaced as easily.
- theragu40, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2No, you didn't have to spell it out. Arobar nailed your argument completely...and it's still just as stupid.
- theodenking, on 09/25/2008, -1/+5I used to recommend the GIMP to people, then I actually tried it.
- PecanHead, on 09/25/2008, -1/+5FoxIt Reader is great if you use IE, but last time I checked they still didn't have a plugin for Firefox. People savvy enough to use an alternative PDF viewer are obviously going to be using an alternative web browser. What gives?
- jeuhrn, on 09/25/2008, -1/+1In most circles I consider IE an 'alternative' browser, meuheh.
When I'm not using Opera, or at certain times Chrome lately. Firefox is only installed on my eee, and it won't spread from there due to crashing about three times an hour. - xxl3w, on 09/25/2008, -0/+10i enjoy not having a pdf plugin. i HATE embedded pdfs.
- SuperWinner, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6embedding PDF's inside a web browser is why 99% of the crashes happen with adobe reader
- zip000, on 09/25/2008, -0/+5I hate embedded pdfs. Even when I have to use adobe, I always opt to download the pdf rather than opening in the browser...it is usually slow as hell in the browser and much more prone to crashing.
- jeuhrn, on 09/25/2008, -1/+1In most circles I consider IE an 'alternative' browser, meuheh.
- mattlohkamp, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1seriously. I used to empathize with people who didn't like Adobe's pdf thing - now I just laugh, and tell them about Foxit.
- AdmiralAcbar, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2A bajillion diggs to you sir.
- omnibahumut, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1For just viewing PDFs, Apple's Preview is great (its great for simply viewing most things), but in the Design industry, Acrobat is necessary for all of its features.
- dontlookleft, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1Agreed. I was going to post a similar comment, but you said it all.
- jsaya, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Too bad you have to pay to edit PDFs
- atgmac, on 09/25/2008, -13/+32Oh so foxit make a photoshop killer now too?
- DismantleRepair, on 09/25/2008, -0/+97"Time spent".
- btraxx, on 09/25/2008, -0/+16Thank you.
- NJank, on 09/25/2008, -6/+4no, no, no. He's using it as a noun. as in the 'time spend'. sure the usage is a bit wonky, but let's try to make it work for the guy.
- cfuse, on 09/25/2008, -1/+5No.
- mattlohkamp, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4mmm, that's stretching it...
- petershultz, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1That's what she said.
- warsongs7, on 09/25/2008, -2/+6I actually read the title as 'time spent'.
- benologist, on 09/25/2008, -1/+27The huge white space that's the rest of the window is time spent waiting for it to open.
- DeFex, on 09/25/2008, -5/+2If you just have a small job to do keep a copy of photoshop 4. it can do most of what you need and opens as fast as notepad on a modern computer. by the time CS3 has opened you could have done your edit, saved and gone on to something else (posting your cat picture?)
- RBrenner14, on 09/25/2008, -4/+51Wheres the segment for time spent torrenting it?
- brodieface, on 09/25/2008, -6/+6It isn't there because that wouldn't make sense.
- mattlohkamp, on 09/25/2008, -1/+9except that it's a joke because a lot of people run pirated copies of PS.
- zeeky, on 09/25/2008, -1/+12most people that buy photoshop have pirated it in the past. it's just part of why photoshop is so successful - students pirate it, use it, later turn into graphic designers or advertisers and are able to purchase a legit copy.
- RomanThommassen, on 09/25/2008, -4/+2most people that torrented photoshop have pirated it in the past. it's just part of why photoshop is so successful - students pirate it, use it, later turn into graphic designers or advertisers and torrent it again.
- brodieface, on 09/25/2008, -6/+6It isn't there because that wouldn't make sense.
- punkcat, on 09/25/2008, -0/+11add time spent accidentally looking at help.
(a bit better in latest version)- pennyjack, on 09/25/2008, -2/+5LOL!!! Just coffeed my keyboard.
- Jenadae, on 09/25/2008, -3/+2Time spent waiting for your sever....
- JGUSMC7, on 09/25/2008, -6/+57Time spent paying for Adobe....ZERO.
- Maurik, on 09/25/2008, -3/+30Time spent torrenting Adobe... 30 mins
- RomanThommassen, on 09/25/2008, -1/+11.www.thepiratebay.com
2.type photoshop cs3 in search box
3.click seeds descending
4.click download torrent
i can do that in 20 seconds. - gavroche, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1@roman
You still have to download it and install it
- RomanThommassen, on 09/25/2008, -1/+11.www.thepiratebay.com
- brodieface, on 09/25/2008, -11/+2Criminal!
- brodieface, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4I thought Digg's sarcasm detectors where in check.
My bad.
- brodieface, on 09/25/2008, -0/+4I thought Digg's sarcasm detectors where in check.
- WhiteUnit, on 09/25/2008, -4/+7Your unintentional support for Adobe simply by using their product...priceless.
- Lythium, on 09/25/2008, -2/+2Yeah, because they make *so* much revenue from people who don't pay for the software....
- SecureXeC, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2It's about brand recognition. They'd rather you use Adobe products, even if pirated, than encourage the use of free products, like GIMP.
Sort of like Microsoft in China. They'd rather let the pirates slip than use an alternate OS, like Linux, for free. - Caliente, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3absolutely. Brand loyalty whether freely garnered or paid for is priceless in the long run.
- Maurik, on 09/25/2008, -3/+30Time spent torrenting Adobe... 30 mins
- DeathJux, on 09/25/2008, -2/+7Seriously? I haven't updated anything and I deny the updater from even updating itself, which it asks to do a couple times a week.
Everything works... I have no complaints. - SnapDragon86, on 09/25/2008, -1/+7mine is more like
30% acrobat
30% photoshop
40% rejecting update request- Chompy, on 09/25/2008, -0/+6Try replacing Acrobat with Foxit, that should save cut out a good 20% on the update requests.
- neutronlaser, on 09/25/2008, -12/+1Just ***** update it you *****
- xxl3w, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2I think PDF complete is a bit faster than foxit. i was a huge foxit fan before i ran into PDF complete
- joegibes, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1Foxit is a great reader, but PDF Complete and Acrobat Pro are better writers.
- EdBansil, on 09/25/2008, -7/+1Lemme guess... you're still using a 14.4 modem?
- refriedbeaner, on 09/25/2008, -8/+0Adobe what? Natural building material made from sand, clay, water, and some kind of fibrous or organic material? Adobe RoboHelp? WTF do people use adobe besides Photoshop? And what is the time range of this graph, 30 mins?
- snurfle, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2Paint Shop Pro FTW
- snurfle, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2Paint Shop Pro FTW
- lovecss, on 09/25/2008, -3/+12Time spent swearing at the screen because you accidentally clicked "Browse..." and now have to wait for Adobe Bridge to open.
- Keithamus, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3In CS2+ you can manually edit the menu entries and get rid of browse... but I totally agree with you and dugg you up nonetheless.
- veloc1ty, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Holy *****, thank you! I never knew you could do that.
Edit: It's so obvious now that I'm looking for it...
- veloc1ty, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2Holy *****, thank you! I never knew you could do that.
- zakeddington, on 09/25/2008, -1/+0You can always Control Click the program icon in the dock and force quit it while it's loading, too.
- Keithamus, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3In CS2+ you can manually edit the menu entries and get rid of browse... but I totally agree with you and dugg you up nonetheless.
- kailash079, on 09/25/2008, -6/+1what happened to time spent downloading the installation file from piratebay?
- schweinehundXX, on 09/25/2008, -3/+3buy?
- Cogboy, on 09/25/2008, -2/+1Don't forget loading plugins
- Dav3ster, on 09/25/2008, -2/+3How long before this whole graphjam thing gets really annoying?
Oh, wait a minute... - aquadoguk, on 09/25/2008, -6/+181. Make a common accusation which digg agrees with
2. Make an Excel Graph
3. ???
4. Profit? - Sternology, on 09/25/2008, -1/+6It was mildly amusing at first, now they are just resorting to unoriginal observational comedy translated into a pie chart.
It's basically a geeky version of "Do ya know what really GRINDS my gears?" or "What's the deal with......."- gerrylazlo, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2You know what really grinds my gears? This Lindsay Lohan. Lindsay Lohan with all those little outfits, jumping around there on stage, half-naked with your little outfits. Ya know? You're a... You're out there jumping around and I'm just sitting here with my beer. So, what am I supposed to do? What you want? You know, are we gonna go out? Is that what you're trying to - why why are you leaping around there, throwing those things all up in my, over there in my face? What do you want, Lindsay? Tell me what you want? Well, I'll tell you what you want, you want nothing. You want nothing. All right? Because we all know that no woman anywhere wants to have sex with anyone, and to titillate us with any thoughts otherwise is - is just bogus.
- D3ADBOLT, on 09/25/2008, -4/+3Stop whining!
- smrekar, on 09/25/2008, -1/+1dugg for Awnold!
- MetalHaze, on 09/25/2008, -3/+8Buried for innacurate. I use my adobe products all day everyday with an almost non existent amount of update or restarts.
- BoneStamp, on 09/25/2008, -1/+3meanwhile, outside of utopia...
- MagicHobo, on 09/25/2008, -3/+4Use Foxit! http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
- cabooglio2, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3Wow... whoever made this chart must be on a PC, huh? I honestly don't even know what it's talking about and I use this stuff all day every day.
- zeeky, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3on pc's u have to wait for adobe reader to start up just to view a stupid document... on a mac its just built in, no waiting time at all...
- wassim2k, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3I like spenting dime widh atobe protucts
- smrekar, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2ROFLCOPTR
- gambl0r, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3This chart is not funny, interesting, or accurate in the least. Great job!
- shaymein, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2what are you on, dial-up?
- garlicdeath, on 09/25/2008, -1/+0Adobe is hard, amirite?
Seriously, I use Reader, Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, etc... and this chart isn't even a joke from exaggeration. It's just terrible.- smrekar, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1486 DX2 66 FAIL!
- BoneStamp, on 09/25/2008, -1/+1As annoying as it is, I guess it's still better than having bugs and never fixing them.
- ortucis, on 09/25/2008, -1/+2What a stupid pie. You can disable updater completely in every adobe product, even though it is incredibly annoying and they have the auto-update options hidden inside the updater (you can view them only when the updater connects to net and shows you the available or unavailable updates list) and NOT in the preferences panel for every app..
- VigRoco, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3I love graphs. I should make a graph depicting how much time I spend making pointless, unfunny graphs.
- BugMeNot2, on 09/25/2008, -1/+1The damn Illustrator update always fails to install on my PCs. :(
- neeks, on 09/25/2008, -3/+0Why is it that I never hear Mac users complain?
- DigitAl56K, on 09/25/2008, -0/+2They're too busy installing Adobe updates.
- Eloosive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1Here we go. Fanboy comments.
- maiden8680, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1I'm a Mac user, and it annoys the hell outta me :p
but I do it anyway
- Sublimus, on 09/25/2008, -0/+3I use Adobe's Creative Suite for hours a day, and this graph just untrue and moot. Maybe if you guys were running comps that weren't pieces of *****, it wouldn't take so long to reboot a program?
- blacktriangle, on 09/25/2008, -1/+1Automatic Updates >/< Disable
- smrekar, on 09/25/2008, -2/+3Aparently you guys arent Graphic Designers using CS3 on a Mac.
1. There aren't nearly that many updates.
2. The updates fix crap - like having to start indesign in rosetta to print multiple page documents.
I understand this may be true of a PC running Acrobat Reader. But i gotta stand up for Adobe on this one. It's my livelyhood.
BURY ME UPSIDE DOWN!- Eloosive, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1I'm on a PC. In the corporate world, it's usually all PCs. And I use PS or Illy everyday, for the last 10 or so years. The chart is not entirely accurate. You can disable updates. Many company bean counters won't approve getting an updated version if you've been getting along fine with what you have anyways. It the graph is funny though. If that's accurate to someone out there, you might have other problems than Adobe's software.
- sg1fan, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1Not sure where the update requests are coming from... the free adobe acrobat reader maybe, but the rest is not like this...
- nusblog, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1nobody mention filezilla?
- maiden8680, on 09/25/2008, -0/+1omg yes - perfect graph
- cheeseefungu, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Everyone here has ***** comps, photoshop +others run in about 10 seconds you *****, stop making ***** graphs.
- otwieracz3d, on 09/27/2008, -0/+0My is 60% Mozilla 10% Updates 30% Games
