        Not all authors use technically proper grammar when expressing thought or idea. See... well any author.

        It takes away the flavor of the moment. 'Now we gotta' sounds way better then "Now we have to", unless your from the 1950's and enjoy Leave it to Beaver.

        In addition, I believe they also put the comma in after Great - to point out a brief pause - not a full stop in what they were saying. The changes you've proposed do not reflect the views the author is trying to express and there for fail in their attempt to bring any kind of grammar enlightenment to their universe.
