6 Super Heroes We Can't Live Without
thedeadbolt.com — For every lame super hero that we've quickly forgotten over the years, the bad-ass favorites have filled the void with their larger than life abilities. Since super heroes became popular way back in the early decades of 20th century, few have stood the test of time to be considered necessary heroes.

- AmyVernon, on 07/11/2008, -3/+23personally, i wouldn't want to live without wolverine. or maybe it's just hugh jackman. hmm.
- PolarBearCa, on 07/12/2008, -1/+11It's definitely Wolverine, Bub.
- HAKdragon, on 07/12/2008, -7/+2How many women do you call "bub" ?
- PolarBearCa, on 07/12/2008, -1/+6Oh, sorry you don't get a reference.
- elektriknoizz, on 07/12/2008, -1/+4my mom loves Wolverine. In an erotic way.
It's weird.- sotose, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2No,that's just your dad and his way of explaining all that hair on his back to your impressionable mind.
- ThePerkins, on 07/12/2008, -5/+0OMG WOLVERINE IZ SOOO KEWT. bitches.

- PolarBearCa, on 07/12/2008, -1/+11It's definitely Wolverine, Bub.
- byronshell, on 07/11/2008, -2/+7I am very surprised Witchblade made the list and Iron Man. But the timing would make sense to add him. I would say you have to consider him because he helped start the Avengers. And for the sake of equality, probably Wonder Woman.
- Soniti, on 07/12/2008, -0/+5This list really just seems to be a recap of the past 5 years of summer blockbusters. Not so much a "can't live without" list; just a re-hash...
- Niightwitch, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3Exactly. Iron Man wouldn't even be considered if not for his recent movie popularity (don't get me wrong, it was a great movie)..... and Witchblade??
- Aieces, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3No, no, I can definately live without witchblade.
- Soniti, on 07/12/2008, -0/+5This list really just seems to be a recap of the past 5 years of summer blockbusters. Not so much a "can't live without" list; just a re-hash...
- Omek, on 07/11/2008, -0/+3It would be interesting to see them team up for a movie. Although, their stories might be hard to mix.
- orchardo, on 07/11/2008, -11/+6I was always partial to Aquaman myself.
- sotose, on 07/12/2008, -3/+8Most of the gay community is.
- Sluglas, on 07/11/2008, -0/+37Withcblade?! How about Wolverine or the Hulk or anyone else but Witchblade!? Even Spawn is more ingrained.
- PolarBearCa, on 07/12/2008, -1/+8I'm pretty sure my world would survive just fine without Witchblade. Sounds like they felt they had to include at least one vagina on the list, and couldn't think of anyone else.
If you were doing obligatory females, the obvious one is Wonder Woman.- jbrand45, on 07/12/2008, -1/+2Agreed. I'm guessing Witchblade was included because of the relatively recent tv shows, which i'm sure helped up her (still low) level of popularity.
- Acglaphotis, on 07/12/2008, -1/+3I've never heard of the witchblade until now.
- boombye, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1It probably has more to do with the fact that it was always one of those hard to find comics when Michael Turner was working on it when it first came out. I could barely find a copy of the first few issues, the thing would sell pretty fast. Nobody picks up Wonder Woman, and you're more likely to read about her in some JLA type events or other DC heroes' books. Michael Turner drew her pretty nice in Batman/Superman, but even Wonder Woman was one of the Witchblades. There's people who know their comics and love comic books, and then there's people who just love their comic book heroes and don't even read comics. Witchblade is on the list because all her issues would sell out fast. I kind of laughed when I saw Wonder Woman crash her invisible plane in DC's The New Frontier graphic novel, even for comics, that was silly. The Witchblade tv series was stupid, but the comic was bad ass. He should havee gone with another character, but probably wanted to include a female in there, so he went with the one that's been making some money in recent times. Personally I'd prefer to have seen Spawn on that list, I still got a lot to catch up on with that series.
- PolarBearCa, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2If you said to most (non-comic) people that Witchblade was dead, they'd go... "Who?" or "So What?"
If you said that Wonder Woman was dead, they'd begin gnashing their teeth and flagellating themselves like many have done over Cap.
The article title says "WE can't live without" without explaining who "WE" is... but if Iron Man is there based on a movie that owes more to the 1970s comics version of Iron Man than the 2008 version in comics, then you have to more or less assume that "WE" is the public more than comic readers.
I'll bet you real money that if you walked up to 100 people on the street and asked them to name a comic book superhero with a vagina, you'd get lots of answers like Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Catwoman, Elastigirl, Invisble Woman/Sue Storm, Jean Grey, Storm and Rogue. You might get a couple of Witchblades, if you were on a street with a comic shop.

- sobe86, on 07/11/2008, -1/+49If you asked the average person on the street, they wouldn't have heard of Witchblade.
- buba1243, on 07/11/2008, -0/+5I was still sad when the canceled the show.
- Acglaphotis, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3I sure didn't.
- btschul, on 07/12/2008, -11/+9Dugg for not including hancock.
- KyleRayner, on 07/12/2008, -4/+35Iron Man? Mr. Illuminati, shoot Hulk into space without asking, facist registration supporting, possibly a shape-shifting evil alien Iron Man?
Oh, this list must be 6 super heroes those who dont read comics cant live without.- PolarBearCa, on 07/12/2008, -0/+7Well, they do concede that he is only on the list because of the movie.
- endlessoul, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3And the movie was kickass.
Best one of 2008, so far.
- endlessoul, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3And the movie was kickass.
- arunforce, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Hulk bad man.
- miggie, on 07/13/2008, -0/+2Preach brother! Tony Stark is a jerk.
- ch1x0r3r, on 07/13/2008, -0/+2I doubt the author has read Civil War.
- PolarBearCa, on 07/12/2008, -0/+7Well, they do concede that he is only on the list because of the movie.
- LeeTXJD, on 07/12/2008, -1/+5What about Ted Kord?!
- jbrand45, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Unfortunately not main-stream enough. Blue Beetle was never much of a fan favorite, beyond a very niche audience.
- blckng, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1No one cared until after his death, even if they say otherwise now. Otherwise, those Giffen issues of JLA Classified would have sold better.
- cskirby, on 07/13/2008, -0/+1What about Ted Baxter?
- jurnei, on 07/12/2008, -7/+21Dennis Kucinich!
- jseres, on 07/12/2008, -1/+7Yeah, he pretty much lives in the same world as many of these superheros.
- RaDeus, on 07/12/2008, -5/+2why isnt Stanislav Petrov on the list ? hes a real super hero and we wouldnt be alive if it wasnt for him...
- bbliss17, on 07/12/2008, -0/+6I am surprised that the HULK did not make it
- tyler0is0sexy, on 07/12/2008, -2/+3maybe you haven't seen the movies then...
- urbandistrict, on 07/12/2008, -0/+4you said "movies" as if the recent one was bad.... it wasn't at all.
- tyler0is0sexy, on 07/12/2008, -2/+3maybe you haven't seen the movies then...
- andy2125, on 07/12/2008, -6/+7No Mighty Mouse? Blaspheme
- PlayingGangsta, on 07/12/2008, -1/+13How about 6 super heroes we do live without because they're not real. Except Captain America.
- folkher, on 07/12/2008, -1/+23This is one of the lamest lists i've seen in a LOOOONG time. It seems you can slap "top ten" on anything these days and get to the top- especially if it has the word "superhero" in it.
- tyler0is0sexy, on 07/12/2008, -1/+1there are only 6 ;)
- folkher, on 07/12/2008, -2/+2hehehe - i was talking in general terms.
- Pardis, on 07/12/2008, -7/+2Batman and Iron Man are not a Super Hero's, they have no super powers. Lots of great toys, but no super powers
- IG64, on 07/12/2008, -1/+4That just makes them Awesome Heroes.
- Pardis, on 07/12/2008, -1/+1yes they are hero's, but not the super kind.
- Acglaphotis, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1I think that in this case we can say that Awesome is just as qualified as Super to be in a Superheroes list.
- Waaaaalt, on 07/12/2008, -2/+3DKR: Anybody with "toys" that can even contend with Superman is a superhero in my book.
- boombye, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2They are not Super Human is what you mean, but they are Super Heroes. You are correct in that both Iron Man and Batman are not Super powered, but that does not disqualify them from being Super Heroes. They both perform super feats that normal heroes, such as cops or medics would not be able to perform because they can't fly in a suit of armor or they can't do what Batman does.
- IG64, on 07/12/2008, -1/+4That just makes them Awesome Heroes.
- BradOFarrell, on 07/12/2008, -9/+36 Herpes We Can Live Without: HSV-1, HSV-2,VZV, EBV, CMV, KSHV
- CarStan, on 07/12/2008, -8/+4'Steve Rogers wears the American flag on his back even though U.S. backpackers in Europe have switched to wearing the Canadian flag just to feel safe'
What is this *****? As if we europeans would attack and steal from american tourists. Their money isnt worth anything over here, so there'd really be no sense in doing that.
We just point our fingers at them and laugh.- sfcaptainrob, on 07/12/2008, -0/+6'We just point our fingers at them and laugh.'
I think you just answered your own question.
- sfcaptainrob, on 07/12/2008, -0/+6'We just point our fingers at them and laugh.'
- asmith1243, on 07/12/2008, -9/+1no George W. Bush? come on digg...
- punchinelli, on 07/12/2008, -1/+10Replace Witchblade with Wolverine.
- jbrand45, on 07/12/2008, -2/+6The only superhero I have consistently been entertained by, from the time I was a small child, was Superman. He had it all . . . strength, speed, x-ray vision, and he could fly! I always loved that the best. The freedom of soaring above the clouds, or going anywhere you wanted . . . . sigh.
- darny, on 07/12/2008, -0/+4Hmmm...I don't think much would change in the world if any of these ceased to exist.
- ganymede2010, on 07/12/2008, -0/+6Witch Blade over the X-Men? What a joke.
- pilot101, on 07/12/2008, -1/+0yea i don't know how you can just pick 6 super heroes that we can't live without these are pretty generic list of superheroes. And withchblade gets on the list????? there are so many more significant superheroes. And personally I am not a fan of superman, seems like an arrogant george bush with super human powers. I rather have dick grayson. This list fails.
- tyler0is0sexy, on 07/12/2008, -1/+3Hong Kong Phooey
- drunkjack, on 07/12/2008, -0/+9Witchblade at all?
Witchblade over WONDER WOMAN?! When did these children grow up, the 90s? Wonder Woman would make Witchblade her bitch.
Just this past week I saw a discussion of how hot Lynda Carter was and still is despite her age.- pauleric, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1I was going to say Yancy Butler is pretty hot too, but upon searching for proof, I found this:
before drugs:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000319/mediaindex
after drugs:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:6.8.08YancyButl ...- boombye, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1In all fairness that show sucked and didn't resemble anything that Michael Turner designed for the comic book series. As with most adaptations, it sucked.
- boombye, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1Well Witchblade used to be a sold out comic in the 90s when Michael Turner was still on it, but I think since he left that series, the sales started to decline, and plus they took things too far. But it's first 30 issues or so were okay. When Top Cow Comics first started after some of their guys left Image, lots of their books would sell pretty damn well, and that includes The Darkness which they screwed up eventually too. In the game he doesn't even wear his damn costume or whatever.
- pauleric, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1I was going to say Yancy Butler is pretty hot too, but upon searching for proof, I found this:
- sfcaptainrob, on 07/12/2008, -1/+2No Space Ghost?
- MarrowMan, on 07/12/2008, -0/+3Sara Pezzini Doesn't even wield the Witchblade anymore. :(
- boombye, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1If she did then she'd be more relevant, but nobody really cares for the other Witchblades. Sara Pezzini is the one that would sell out every week, not their other crap.
- rblancarte, on 07/12/2008, -3/+1Can't Live without? What are they talking about? These guys are not real. Sounds like we are living without them right now.
- avisotin, on 07/12/2008, -7/+2No Punisher?
Buried. - punjab551, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1But Captain America was killed! Watch out for the apocalypse.

- woodrail, on 07/12/2008, -4/+6who the f*ck is witchblade?
- boombye, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1For a short time in the 90s it was a top selling comic book started by Top Cow Comics which was comprised of some people who had left Image comics.
- aftern9ne, on 07/12/2008, -2/+6They should have just cut it down to four and removed Witchblade and Iron Man.
- ImmediateAction, on 07/12/2008, -1/+3Jubilee!!! She can shoot fireworks out of her hands!!! WOOOOH, best power ever....
- triferlinks, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2I like your raincoat

- TheUnlearn, on 07/12/2008, -4/+9***** Superman. He's ***** lame.
- jimv1983, on 07/12/2008, -1/+1Superman is the best!
FTA: "Is he the most powerful? Not anymore, that’s for sure."
Not the most powerful anymore. How the hell is more powerful than Superman?- urbandistrict, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2CaptianIronHulkSuperThorMan is.
- TheUnlearn, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1one word: kryptonite
and since apparently, in metropolis, you can pick some up at a convenience store it's a wonder he wasn't killed sooner. - boombye, on 07/12/2008, -0/+1There's a bunch of other Supermans too. Superman-Prime for example is about to fight the Post-Crisis Superman soon I think in the Final Crisis storyline.

Buried. - SirvenomItsac, on 07/12/2008, -1/+0and Robin? (note: irony)
- Morghin, on 07/12/2008, -0/+2***** list if it doesn't include Wolverine. If you ignore that Captain America is the poster-child of Marvel above any other, Wolverine is their big hitter and massive magnet. He's EVERYWHERE in the Marvel Universe(s). Not mentioning him is like not seeing the forest because all the trees are in the way.
Wolverine's everywhere for a reason, the author of that list needs to get his head out of his ass and smell the real world. - Clive, on 07/12/2008, -0/+7Who watches the watchmen?
- supremespleen, on 07/12/2008, -0/+7Needs more Deadpool.
