eBay rules that New Zealand not for sale
mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp — New Zealand is not for sale, despite somebody in neighboring Australia trying to offload the nation of 4 million to the highest online bidder.

- xuanyan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+70This is hilarious. Digg.
- stomicron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Anyone have a cached copy of the listing before it was pulled?
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27almost as good as the auction from a few years back.. some guy was trying to offload 2 pounds of cocaine for $2 mil
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+68THE Best auction ever posted on eBay.
FOR SALE: 24 SMALL CHILDREN
http://www.diediedie.com/Scumbag/24smallchildren.htm - Bloc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32makes you wonder how shiftt found a listing for 24 small children...?
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18lol bloc, I bought a few before they took the auction down ;)
- stomicron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Ah, the ebay days of yore, when you could leave feedback for anyone without having actually completed a transaction.
http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=kidik2000&item=-1&frm=0 - shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10nice one stomicron, I've got another one for you

- Mesach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Anyone know if any senators or congressmen have put up a listing on ebay, we all know that they are for sale, why not be able to get some quality feedback on it. I just dont know if paypal will accept some of the payments, they might just put a hold on the accounts.
- stomicron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@shiftt
That's funny. Where'd you find that guy? Click on "feedback received" and look at #2 and #3 for an extra laugh. - stomicron, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6jczer68: How is the following story, which you dugg, any better?
http://www.digg.com/science/Wild_find:_Half_grizzly,_half_polar_bear - benhocking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@stomicron - what about #5. How is he going to "take care of" that cat?
- jczer68, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2The grizzly/polar hybrid looked like science, and it was news to me. Therefore digg.
As opposed to someone pulling something out of their ass, selling it on eBay and making it out to be "news." - Dabellah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anybody else notice the user names in the pics? they are all the same person it looks like. Becky#whatever ???
- pmppk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@shiftt
The 24 children will never die!!! Neither will gigantor (our nickname for the kid with the giant head)!!
This auction was created by me and a friend way back when. I was the high bidder on the auction... and if you don't believe me you can still email me at the address listed on that auction page. We just find it crazy that this ***** is still popular! Someone on IRC found the auction the day we posted it and it got 10k hits in just two or three days while it was still on ebay. Then people mirrored it (like the guy at diediedie.com). Just before the counter we had placed on the page went offline a couple years ago, it had registered over 3 million hits, including some from .gov, .mil, microsoft.com, apple.com, etc...
Funniest fact of this whole experience: AOL caught wind of the auction early on and faxed a copy of it to the FBI to investigate. My friend who was the 'seller' in the auction actually had two FBI agents visit his home to ensure that he did not in fact have a crate of small children for sale. They told him they understood he posted it as a joke but that they needed to investigate just to be certain. - xuanyan, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1It seems some are taking things one step further than the insurance TV ad’s. Recently a cheeky Australian tried to flick on our precious country to another owner.
The unnamed Australian attempted to sell NZ through the internet auction site eBay Australia. Starting the bidding at one cent, the apparent title-holder for the land of the long white cloud got a great response. Apparently there were 22 bids, taking prices up to $3,000 Australian, before eBay officials shut it down.
“Clearly New Zealand is not for sale,” eBay Australia spokesman Daniel Feiler said. Which, to be honest, we are all quite glad about. I’m not too keen on the eighth-state thing.
It also seems that the seller doesn’t particularly like New Zealand either, further making him an irresponsible owner. He mentioned in the real estate listing that New Zealand has “very ordinary weather”. Come on, it’s winter for goodness sake!
- jmholloway, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Quite amusing.
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3Note to self,. must post Golden Gate Bridge on eBay...
- McNamron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Heh, a pretty good laugh for an otherwise gloomy Friday. I feel like I should have seen this printed in The Onion.
- mistshadow2k4, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Crap! If that had worked out I was going to be thinking of what country I could sell.

She finished the auction on her website and consumated the deal.
A 44 year old BT engineer paid 8,400 pounds. Her response was that it was "very uncomfortable but over quite quickly". - brhad56, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Who would really want to buy that girls virginity anyways?
I'd hit that.
- capitocapito, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Very funny. Who owns it now?
- BBryan, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1$200
- mrmatchgame, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Sounds allot like one guying trying to sell Maryland on Ebay.
- wired4u, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I wonder if the usa can sell cuba
- drunkenrobot, on 10/12/2007, -25/+13I would list the United States of America but nobody would buy it, not even for one ( now worthless ) American dollar. Who would want a country full of lazy xenophobic anti-environmental terrorists anyway?
- psyon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Hey! I resent that remark. I have nothing against the environment.
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4Bravo! and well said. I completely agree :) (Well I might pay a loonie or even a toonie)
- aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9If we're talking about generalizations. Then, I guess your country must be full of ignorant morons.
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12"Who would want a country full of lazy xenophobic anti-environmental terrorists anyway?"
That's so untrue. I almost feel like getting out of bed and taking my Escalade to the park to do some dirtbiking just to show how much I enjoy the environment. (As long as there's no foreigners there.. yikes!)
- jczer68, on 10/12/2007, -20/+3HAHAHAHAHA. lame, who the ***** cares what's sold on eBay.
- dimatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6You obviously do.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -21/+3And just HOW is this tech related?
- stomicron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15It's not. It's internet-related.
- MuffinMan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I sold something on eBay. It went something like this.
WTS [Soul of MuffinMan] pst for bids.
In the end it went to a guy by the name of Belzebub666TheDevilDude.
Whatever, I think I totally ended up ahead on that deal....hey, what the f- **Drops Dead**- phatvolvo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1hahaha burn!

Probably someone who was jealous because they're country is a ***** compared to the US, and that the US calls the shots on every major event in the world, and when times are tough they call on the US, but when the US tries to make the world safer, ***** like you talk *****.- drunkenrobot, on 10/12/2007, -21/+13Thank you for corroborating my point. I appreciate it! Unlike the US my country doesn't commit mass terrorism on countries like Iraq. My country isn't the world's largest polluter. My country isn't full of Christian Cult whack jobs that gladly gas themselves for some guy that died 2000 years ago.
Oh, and my country isn't full of morons like you who think that they rule the world... China and India are going to stomp your self righteous ***** hole into the ground. - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5robot, I enjoy reading your bashings...keep up the good work. Oh and where do you live?
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9Bhahaha
Yes, America is a paradise as long as you don't mention the 10 of 1000s of murders and rampant poverty.
Also, when has the US ever made the world a safer place. - aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What is this... shoutwire?
- TestFar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Veamon: If that comment was ironic, it was hilarious. Good job!
- Ibox, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2let me ask you mr robot, is your country ruled by a jew burning megalomaniac? hum no? well, your welcome. have a nice day
- diggitydank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@ahhell
You are right, the US did nothing during WWII. We did not win it for anybody, but it sure as hell would have lasted a lot longer without us.
:rolls eyes: - sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@drunkenrobot
You know there are plenty of political slanted websites out there with like minded people just dying to have this arguement with you? You may be "pro-environment", but you're seriously polluting this website. - poohbah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3lbox, j00 burning is funny.

- doant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+210.000 pound for here virginity seems lucrative. you give something you are going to lose for sure. and get back allot of money. who wants to buy Holland? fun country close to the sea beautiful woman's nice summers hookers en legal soft drugs. most of the people are friendly or stoned. new sea land would be a great place to switch it for we get new sea land you get Holland almost the same climate. but no hills over here
- thegreypilgrim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't have a screenshot of the eBay page, but the next best thing. Here's a link to the story from TVNZ's channel one news - check out the short related video which is a replay of the coverage from Thu night,

bha ha ha ha! American's think they won WWII for the rest of us! Man, they sure are sheltered there, aren't they!?!?!? :)- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah, to be fair Russia should get most of the honors for winning WWII. Hitler's unsuccessful campaign in Russia was the turning point of the war for Nazi Germany.
- drunkenrobot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1exactly
- toddhenkel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually it was the Allies that beat Hitler back - not the USA, the Soviets, England or any other single country.
By working together, supplying one another with equipment and keeping multiple fronts open, the German strategies were bogged down and overwhelmed by superior numbers.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Not sure about the Australian culture, but it is possible it is a senior prank...
- Spanca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't know what you mean by senior prank, but yes, in Australian culture we give New Zealand a heap of crap, all in good fun. They're like what Canada is to the US.
- jhoogy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Yeah the country that is smaller and know how to make better decisions like not invading other countries.
- Spanca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't know what you mean by senior prank, but yes, in Australian culture we give New Zealand a heap of crap, all in good fun. They're like what Canada is to the US.
- siouxmoux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder if the seller would have better success if the person would of have put the sell of New Zealand on craigslist??
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That'd be sweet. But we wouldn't get to see who voted.
- 12Volts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's Trade Me bud http://www.trademe.co.nz/

- samgab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Phew, that's a relief! I wouldn't want my country to be sold to just any old ebay bidder!
(Oh, but Angelina Jolie is welcome to be our new owner, if she's interested. She sure looks better than Helen Clark) - adolfojp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Bah humbug! Countries being sold is not a new phenomenon.
Just look how the USA bought Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines a little over a hundred years ago.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Paris_(1898)
They didn't even need eBay! - Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8"Also, when has the US ever made the world a safer place."
Dear US,
We are getting our ass handed to us. We are pansies who dont know how to defend ourselves. Please send thousands of troops to help us, as we are too busy with out thumbs in our ass.
This in no way means we will ever appreciate you. As soon as you finish here, we will begin to hate you again.
Sincerely,
France.- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Wait a minute.... The American colonists never would have won the Revolutionary War without the help of France.
- drunkenrobot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I guess France should take the Statue of Liberty and French Fries back... You don't represent freedom, and you are fat enough already.
- djhifisi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4As a kiwi myself, I feel justified in representing my country in saying that this is hilarious! Well done the Australians for finding one Aussie digger amongst them who was a) smart enough to think of something quite funny, and b) diligent enough to bother typing this on a computer using their funny six fingered hands.
haha :-)- drunkenrobot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1where DID that sixth finger come from anyway? :)
- 12Volts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hurricanes to beat Warratahs tonight - but we'll let you Aussies buy tickets to the Semi-final in Wellington next weekend.
Shame about the Brumbies last night - we're feeling for you guys tripping up at the last hurdle and letting the South Africans sneak in. - Spanca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1'Tahs FTW!

I had no clue sheep counted as citizens. - steelshanks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I am going to sell Canada.
- wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2I digg the story, not all of this whining political 'your county this, my county that' BS that is being posted.
- 12Volts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7We're a country not a county mate
- MaxPayne3476, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3Quick on Topic: Haha this cracks me up. I remember reading the article about the girl and it inspired me to make an auction stating that I would make a video of me streaking through Philadelphia. Turns out though... streaking isn't exactly an easy offense to get away with :D
DrunkenRobot... did Canada even actually really do ALL that much during WWII? Now yes, I do know NZ, Aust, and Canada were involved and played a part, especially with Europe... but I can't even find a number of the involvement.
4,355,000 Americans were mobilized for World War 2. And as I recall, I don't exactly recollect the most support against Japan from France (who got its ass kicked early on) or England... or Canada for the matter. And o0joshua0o don't make a retarded statement like that, because there was also a nice little war waging in western Europe too... and hell Russia was part of the reason that the war started! So drunken - while you spit claims that Americans think they won the war... blah...blah...blah... WELL THATS BECAUSE I'VE NEVER HEARD OTHERWISE. so hit me with some knowledge! I will say that the European war was a joint-effort, but besides a little help from Russia in Japan - I don't exactly recollect some other evidence stating that other countries helped out all too much!
"And Yes, America is a paradise as long as you don't mention the 10 of 1000s of murders and rampant poverty.
Also, when has the US ever made the world a safer place."
...rampant... poverty?
...you call a 5.1% unemployment rate... rampant? Ya know, compared to the 20% of China and the 10% of India... which follows with this quote
"Sixty per cent of India's workforce is self-employed, many of whom remain very poor. Nearly 30 per cent are casual workers (i.e. they work only when they are able to get jobs and remain unpaid for the rest of the days). Only about 10 per cent are regular employees, of which two-fifths are employed by the public sector."
I'm sorry - let me wait while India and China "kicks my ass"
oh yea - and the fact that only 5% of Indians are computer literate and as China has the buttsex with their Internet users. Speaking of how terrible the United State's system is, don't ya just love how China just so thoughtfully decided to jump onto the bandwagon of Capitalism...while in all - restricting political freedom.
But you know... the United States and its RAMPANT POVERTY AND HIGH MURDERS?!?
...which by the way - the US ranks #24 at .42% GRANTED - I do still feel murder is an issue we deal with, though its not RAMPANT AND EVERYONE DIES
By ya know... Comparison...
China:
-Executions 1,067 executions [1st of 33]
-Executions (per capita) 0.816802 executions per 1 million [14th of 33]
India:
Murders 37,170 [1st of 63]
Though I can admit - the United States has the highest RAPE amount in the world. That does in fact - disgust me.
----
So dragon, good luck with your socialism - gov. controlled prices on telephone and such - and your sub-par medical care - ... while the United States enjoys the benefits of the best medical care in the world :)
And that whole little thing of the United States ranking the top University.... actually more specifically - 8 outta the top 10 :)
And I forgot that I can actually go onto Google and search of all of the embarrassments of the United States, - Kent State, Vietnam, and such... while ya know... hey how about I search for something such as Tienanmen Square, can't do that in China!
I feel that there are some things that the US has gotten involved with that are quite the embarrassment - but lets not forgot the Holocaust, the Crusades, African occupation and apartheid, the feuds between France and England, and the rule of the USSR. Your right - only the US ever has some foot in mouths!
And why do Americans state their dominance - because sometimes it really feels like it. Who donated the most aid to the Tsunami victims... god forbid we didn't! But hell when a nice little tragedy such as 9/11 or LA happens - the others scoff. Quite running to us and maybe our dominance wouldn't feel so... assured :)
i know this sounds kinda choppy - I apologize, I did go back and write some more stuff.
Oh and to the people that claim that France hasn't EVER done anything for us... that does disgust me. the US wouldn't be here today without France's support. Battle of Saratoga I believe? I do recognize that.- TestFar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Regarding your comments about the Second World War: What the hell has happened? Why are people arguing over who won the most? Its ridiculous; you won't, and never will, gain anything by arguing for your country. In the long run, anyone who can visit this site (the internet in general...freedom example) has won.
- mtgarden, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Well said. Amazing how the world hates us Americans. Let see, we donate money to just about every third world country and pour billions of dollars to disaster relief. Then we are criticized for being stingy. Yup, makes sense to me.... I don't recall Europe being sympathetic during 9/11, but I sure recall people here being sympathetic to the riots in France. Oh yeah, and what about the Americans who have died in the cause of freedom for other nations?
Drunkenrobot, grow up. We don't hate your country, we do care about others, and we try to help out. We aren't perfect, but your attitude certainly won't encourage us to be more giving. As a matter of fact, I have heard many Americans (as of late) complain about giving to other countries. There reason for balking? They hate the nasty attitudes that we receive from other countries. If those countries are going to bad-mouth us, why should we be nice to them? It's not like they have earned any respect. And yet we give anyway. (sounds like evil terrorist thinking to me.) - Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2agreed max besides dragon must be one of them people who think omg the us is horrible then they compleatly ignore the muslem religon which is not a peaceful religon i mean they captured a bunch of places in early history and they have a thing with flying planes into fpublic buildings if anything shut your ignorant hole.
2. america isnt perfect but at least we dont limit freedom as much as china does. dont glorify that country look at that square where all them college students were killed and i think your against the death chair arnt you.
and india has so much poverty. and every other country runs to us saying donate to this donate to that . - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Atomic1fire
Your retort would be more effective if you knew how to speak English... - toddhenkel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Be prepared for Europe and the USA to reunite in the coming years as the Islamic nations align and take aim. Why might this happen?
First, several Islamic countries are dealing with significant populations that revile the West. The newspaper cartoons that depicted Mohammad added fuel to the fire. This and other issues due to misunderstanding one another's cultures will eventually lead to an increase in acts of war. If you find it hard to imagine how a cartoon could instill such hatred, look to how passionate some of these posting have gotten over what was meant to be a humorous topic.
Second, the "West" has in recent weeks turned off the flow of "donations" to the Palestinian Authority. Their economy is literally headed quickly into complete meltdown. Yes, Hamas was the elected by the people. But the anger of having no transportation, no food and no way to support their children will quickly become a flashpoint in the world. - dimatt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@Atomic1fire
MikeCampo just destroyed you. - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Indeed ;)
- dimatt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1huzzah!
- wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I am glad to see that some of you are doing well in your anger management classes though.
- MaxPayne3476, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I apologize for the double-post but just before I get flamed...
I just checked the amounts of the Tsunami... and turns out Japan donated the most. We came in second just above the UK. Anyway, I apologize for this inaccuracy. - diafel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oh wow a satiric auction on eBay! I've never seen one of those before! I guess it's true: you can sell anything on ebay lol!!!1

- Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2"I guess France should take the Statue of Liberty and French Fries back... You don't represent freedom, and you are fat enough already."
Go ahead. We've made enough money taking your crappy crossaint, stuffing it full of cheese and egg, and selling it back to fatties. - the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Screw you australians. *shakes fist*. NZ > Oz
- MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I think I'll put up my neighbor's place. The guy needs that added push out of the neighborhood.
- TylerDurden0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I sold my banana phone on eBay. It wouldn't shut the piss hell up!!
- Kazrog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2This guy is my hero. He would have gotten bonus points for making LOTR references in his listing, though.
- halfeaten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder if any of those bidding for NZ knew that the Orc extras in LOTR _weren't_ wearing makeup?
- 12Volts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes I heard we bought in a ship load of convicts from Sydney for the Orc scenes. The Ozzies were only capable of non-speaking roles.
