Amazing online organizer
iscrybe.com — If the actual product is anything like the video on the home page (and on youtube), this will scoop up and slaughter the current set of online personal organization and tracking systems. Very well thought out, works offline, prints to a useable, portable format and works with firefox.
- 1629 diggs
- digg it
- realnebby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Amazing if it actually does what the video shows. I'm interested to see how the offline functionality works.
- blizzwatch, on 10/12/2007, -15/+9Think google will snap this one up? 100mil in stock sounds good.
- light50, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Amazing indeed. Will make Portable Firefox a lot more versatile.
- centinall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3When I was a JavaOne last year, they had a seminar about offline html applications. To be honest, there wasn't much of an explaination. But the gave a couple of ways this can be done. All of these methods were to use setting expiration times for caching way beyond the current time. This would make the browser cache the html/js/etc so it would be available while not being connected to the internet.
1) Embed a invisible flash application that can read and write data through the use of javascript. This flash application could cache data to be retrieved in an offline mode.
2) Same as 1 but using an invisible Java Applet.
3) Probably the most interesting method. They said that you can actually write and store information on the computer's harddrive using JavaScript. No, not Java, but JavaScript. They said the only problem with this is that you're limited in how much you can write. And they made clear that they weren't talking about storing this in cookies.
I'm just repeating what I heard and really have no idea about any of these methods, but I would be interested in hearing more if anyone has any input. - IppatsuMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The dojo javascript toolkit ( http://dojotoolkit.org/ ) has a similar functionality called dojo.storage (of course is up to developer to use it, it's a framework, not an application).
- le0pard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow this looks amazing. I can't wait to see it in real use!
- Tredici, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Yeah, me too. I just wish my days were eventful enough to actually make use of it =[
- AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Cool! Thanks for finding this! I really want to try it out. It looks really easy to use. +digg
- xXShadowstormXx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Amazing.
:P - yyanri, on 10/12/2007, -6/+40The man's accent, though initially disturbing, made me feel very comforted.
=]- Celeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Interesting, first time I heard an Indian voice used to promote a product such as this.
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Yeah, i felt the same way.
There's a few people with similar accents on the new show Heroes, which I find pretty nice as well. - cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I don't think your feelings have anything to do with the speaker's accent. I think they are a result of the speaker's cool and comfortable vocal demeanor, as opposed to the "sunday Sunday SUNDAY!!!! It's HUUUUUUGE!" kind of promotional voice we are so used to.
- jrkagan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3According to the whois entry, apparently it's an Indian (or similar) living in NJ. Meh...that's American enough for me.
- archer104, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1I doubt you would feel the same way if the guitar music was replaced by the sound of drowning cats.
- junkmail02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15as an Indian myself - when i started watching the video the first thing that i thought of was "oh great an Indian accent, everyone is gonna rip on this guy in the digg comments." but i am happy to see that i was wrong. not one person so far talked ***** like some immature cultureless people i've come across. this really shows that digg has pretty intellectual members on their site.
- tunheim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The accent tells you that this guy most likely is a developer and not someone that the pr-department hired for their perfect English. It makes the whole thing more human as opposed to the telemarketing voices.
- autoy, on 10/12/2007, -46/+8Amazing front page dupe:
http://digg.com/software/Online_productivity_app_that_works_offline_blows_GCal_Backpack_etc_away- ThomasLeeIV, on 10/12/2007, -10/+31Some of us aren't watching the digg homepage every waking second of the day. Stuff reaches and leaves the homepage too quickly to be able to catch everything. You would be a much more efficient "dupe patroler" if you'd use the report feature, rather than copy and paste the comment. You could improve your "dupe report rate" to 22.5/minute rather than only 12.67. Keep up the hard, productive work.
- autoy, on 10/12/2007, -24/+3I'd thought you'd even get to page 2. Ok, I was wrong :P
- djepik, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11stfu nobody cares. I didn't see it before. Now I did. I'm glad it was up twice.
- ThomasLeeIV, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The problem is, people don't go to Digg, and go straight to page 2. Most of them probably look at the homepage first, then stuff their friends have dugg. If you're a constant digger, you probably go into the queue and digg anything that looks interesting, so you don't know if its a duplicate. I think the responsibility is on digg to highlight stuff that might be a duplicate if it's linking to the exact same site. I don't care who/when it was submitted as long as something new or important makes the homepage so others can learn about it.
- Quadcore, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1Hoax!
- bsonline, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Now, if only Google would buy iscrybe so it would be free...
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30It didn't say anywhere that it wasn't free....
- tehJR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I want Google to buy it so it so Gmail and gCal will have those features
- ahawks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Looks great. I liked the "PaperSync" spin on it. Made me curious if any other ("real") sync features are going to be there... like iCal, etc. But maybe paper would be enough.
- hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It'll have iCal sync apparently. I don't see the point of PaperSync if you have to come home and reenter all the notes you wrote down on your paper version while you were out. Not what I'd call good functionality.
- searayman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1paper synch will be helpful so i can bring my calender to school, and add stuff to remind me to add online.
- rdigidr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Definitely a mark above the rest! MS Outlook beware or better yet buy it before others do...
Would also be a good buy for yahoo since their mail program is still in beta and they need a calendar, tasks, and notes update along with their email beta.
Would be interesting to also see how this can fit into Mobile devices. This guys screen resolution is pretty big...mobile compatibility without loss of the "context" would be key to this success as well. - Sferrero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Wow.
- steal_apps01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It seems like Google Notepad, iCal & PocketMod all rolled into one.
- xfTwitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2GIMME NOW!!!
- Shawnosaurus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow, that is impressive! I'm sold =)
- RedOregon, on 10/12/2007, -32/+1Cool. So now some cracker only has to break *one* account to get all your info, instead of all those separate ones! Progress!
- tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I cant even think of a comment to shoot you down with.
Your sheer stupidity does it for me.
- tainedhero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I cant even think of a comment to shoot you down with.
- Quavistar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Finally, someone gets it rights! I'm on this!
- vegasbright, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Why are all the positive comments simplistic and similar?
- rufus001, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Because they've got it right. What else is there to say?
- HonoredMule, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Because diggers are socially conditioned to be derisive and negative, but they're drawing a blank, and actually really liking it. However, they're unaccustomed to praising content, especially in detailed manner.
You could take this as a commentary on diggers, x-or digg itself.
I for one am joyed to see a truly intelligent, well-designed interface, and some effort being put into portable application rather than stupid online services.
- rufus001, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4What a fantastic idea! I love the way it syncs with paper. lol.
- hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2It doesn't sync with paper. It's only an export to paper feature.
- alabat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@hotpepper
no one is claiming the electronic version would actually sync up with paper.
your response is absolutely naive... you are obviously looking for a plethora of agreement to your naivety to give you a confidence booster. As you grow up learn to understand sarcasm... - hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Did you even read rufus001's comment? "love the way it syncs with paper". Even the term "PaperSync" is a misnomer.
Regarding my growing up, I wouldn't be surprised if I was old enough to be your big brother, or even your dad. - rufus001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ hotpepper
Clearly you don't have much of a sense of humour dude!
- sovereign3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The preview:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1u3ekzwnYxw
I'm just hoping for other "syncing" options. Though the print-out option is pretty interesting. - FTBoomer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1DataLens (from the University of Maryland) has been doing the Outlook zoom thingy for years.
- mikesherov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17This app makes me jealous in how easy and user friendly it looks. I'll just stop developing web apps now...
- codercode, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I can see this could smash Google Calendar. The narrator sounds like an...Indian, didn't he?
- metazoan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Correct!
Can't get anything past you :)
- metazoan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Correct!
- bmc2010, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, this looks amazing and I will be keeping track of the development process, as well as getting involved in the betas.
- ScuttleEnough, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1holy *****!
- BangoSkank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very impressive. If it could do a real sync, I would sign up.
- phlux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10People balk at what web 2.0 is about - Skrybe is certainly it.
There is a web 2.0 and its about beautiful useability. That was sweet.
What is also amazing was the auto layouts. They should separate that engine out alone and attach it to Django for a w'onderful publication engine.- warbird, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8It is also unreleased beta... Definitely web 2.0
- Praxibetel1x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I will finally be able to keep all of the time I spend sitting on my ass in order... :p
- Pancake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4/me stands and begins a slow clap, eyes misty and filled with joy
- videoCT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3does it handle e-mail?
does it offer you e-mail reminders of events or a page at a glance/week at a glance?
does it have contacts/address book? some outlook functionality would eliminate the need to shuffle programs.
looks very cool however.
I have carried in my wallet for 10 years a piece of paper with all of my important phone numbers printed in teeny-tiny font. - KathySmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0amazing and well thought out. I signed up to get more data to help market and PR artists faster.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is pretty awesome. Not sure if anyone noticed this, but he misspelled the word "appointment" as "appointemnt". Just something I thought was kind of funny.
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is AMAZING. I wonder how long this has been in development.
PaperSync™ looks pretty cool. ;P- hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Except for the fact that it doesn't actually sync with paper. :)
- SeanFL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Google, hire these people. Pay them lots of money and incorporate their progress...this looks sharp.
- veniv, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1That's a nice interface. Even though it's pretty close to what Outlook does, the online access is neat. Also, it seems to be quite flexible!
http://www.sleektools.net/sleekview.html - Takuro, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1"There are some small, unknown companies that you might of heard of who have been trying... but nobody has anything that can compare to Scribe." (Cut scene to an image of Windows, Google, Apple, Yahoo, and Ajax icons.)
He called Google and Microsoft "small" and "unknown?"
Should I break out laughing or take this seriously...? Even though the narrator probably doesn't live in the U.S., I'd think the word choice was sort of poor.
Google: you just got served. And its served fresh. Smells like sweet, sweet opportunity for incorporation.- AMozza13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Your ability to pick up sarcasm is amazing!
- SgtBeavis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3After watching the video, registering for the beta is simply a no brainer. I could see these guys being scooped up by Google, gmail integration added, and Outlook looking out for its back.
VERY nicely done presentation too. Props to the narrator :-) - combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I wish I could autmatically "spam" flag every post with the word "AMAZING" in the title. I hate that word because of digg.
- wallclimber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@combatchuck: "I wish I could autmatically "spam" flag every post with the word "AMAZING" in the title. I hate that word because of digg."
..........................................
That would be great, and I'll spam flag all the ones with "AWESOME" in the titles, between us we can make the world a better place. ; ) - IBadassI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Made you look at the post though didn't it?
Objective met. - combatchuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No. I didn't look at the post. I clicked the comments link, scrolled right to the reply box, and typed that. Objective not met.
- wallclimber, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@combatchuck: "I wish I could autmatically "spam" flag every post with the word "AMAZING" in the title. I hate that word because of digg."

Even though this page is the actual site for Scrybe, the link above was submitted before and hit the homepage before.- Saiing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Brilliant. Not only do you waste everyone's time with your moronic dupe report, but you actually failed to notice that someone reported it before you (and also got flamed).
You managed to dupe the dupe report. Don't you look dumb now eh?
- Saiing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Brilliant. Not only do you waste everyone's time with your moronic dupe report, but you actually failed to notice that someone reported it before you (and also got flamed).
- simplehiker, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hey, backpack is upgrading so you can move stuff around on your page.... *LAUGH* Are the 37Signals fanboys crying yet?
- deanau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All it needs to be totally awesome is iSync type capbality (with handheld devices)
- mbadolato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was one seriously impressive demo. Looking forward to trying it out.
- sstacks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Definitely impressive.
- brandonmuth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The demo looks great. It will be interesting to see how useful it really is.
- Quiplash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow does this sound promising.
- ShaunTrennery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Brilliant, not much more to say than that. This might be the Web2.0 app that defines them all.
- thedavis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This going to be very very cool when it hits. I'm signed up for the Beta. You are right Blizzwatch, this will end up going to Google.
- dyvbond, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0double post. digg down.
- dyvbond, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0uggh. sorry. made a new post instead of edit. digg down.
- dyvbond, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0http://duggmirror.com/design/Amazing_online_organizer/
- aCiD2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Very impressive, looking forward to a beta account :)
Here is another video about Scrybe http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mr1YE_xS_n8 - TurtleBeoulve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am excited about this. I just hope they are able to hack something together that can run native on Windows Mobile that can sync without using outlook. I have been keeping all of my calendars in Sunbird and haven't wanted to migrate to Outlook. The biggest problem has been finding an easy way of syncing Sunbird to my MDA. The other thing that this seems to have picked up on is the ability change how your print outs look like. Sunbird is extremely lacking in that department. I keep my radio stations schedule on my calendar and would love to print out more than just a list of show air times.
