- pcgenome, on 07/17/2008, -1/+9IE6 is dead - move on
- omenmedia, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5If only it were that easy. There are (unfortunately) still a large number of IE6 users out there... and as a web developer, yes, I still have to develop and test sites so that they display correctly in IE6, which is a royal pain in the arse, not to mention a massive waste of time and cause for much swearing. I run Firefox as my main browser, and have IE7 installed for testing, as well as Safari, Opera and that mind-numbingly stupid Virtual PC image with IE6 installed that Microsoft released for developers to test on. Just this morning I forgot to test a site in IE6 before a meeting (it looked perfect in Firefox and IE7) - unfortunately, the clients were running IE6 at their location and the site turned to *****. :( "Work in progress. work in progress!!!!"
- JohnnyKdiggs, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5As long as developers continue to develop for IE6, users will continue to use IE6. It's a vicious cycle.
Let it die. - Berkana, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5No project I have ever worked on has failed to become more frustrating, more expensive, and more annoying by being required to support IE 6.
IE 7 didn't make the problem better, having its own problems that broke IE 6 hacks, while not being highly standards compliant itself. I want IE 8 to pass all the acid tests with flying colors and to show a commitment to web standards. Until then, I recommend using FireFox, Safari, or Opera. - mehson, on 07/17/2008, -0/+4Unfortunately IE6 is still alive to kill us!
at the moment, I'm developing a new wordpress theme and my major buggy browser that I have to consider is IE6. - AmyVernon, on 07/17/2008, -0/+1i didn't even realize anyone used IE anymore...
- Paintingblack, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0As handy as it is to use IE6 specific hacks, I've seen many websites abuse this by far. Browser-specific stylesheets are just a crutch for web developers who don't have enough practice/patience to build a functional website without the "quick-fix".
There are exceptions to this, however (min/max-height hack), which can prove to be useful. - Financiarul, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0i moved on...from IE6 to mozilla 3 :) and it works fine :P
