Gmail Feature Suggestion: Vote For What Features You Want To See Most
services.google.com — Please select up to five features from the list below. We've categorized the list for your convenience.
- 2450 diggs
- digg it
- IvanB, on 10/12/2007, -11/+104Google is just so awesome.
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -5/+89more than anything i want a to-do list for the calendar :|
- mockstar, on 10/12/2007, -80/+16Folders!!!
- StevoCJ, on 10/12/2007, -8/+55mockstar, that's what labels are.
- carpespasm, on 10/12/2007, -10/+45labels are not the same as folders since folders allow for a heirarchy. how many poeple use color labels on their mac as opposed to foldering things?
I'd also like them to remove the over-restrictive limits on executables. there is no need to completely ban exe files, i need to send them sometimes and have to maintain a yahoo account for it. - dadm110, on 10/12/2007, -5/+64IMAP!!
- deohieu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19And Call to Google Talk contacts directly in my Gmail window (by using flash or anything) will make Gmail (almost) perfect.
- piranhaa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@dadm110
IMAP may be harder to implement than you think... How will the ALL MAIL and Filters work together with the imap client? Not everything that's archived is labeled, nor everything in the
inbox is labeled. - Petarded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14@carpespasm
I know that can be quite a hassle, but I personally wouldn't want them to turn that off.
To get around it, I just change the extension. For example program.exe to program.gmail. - chesterjosiah, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3@carpespasm
If you want to send an executable file, change the file extension to "changeme" or something like that. I used to rename them "exe2" but now that doesn't seem to work either.
Petarded said basically the same thing, before me. Mod me down. :-P - cutechimp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Don't get your hopes high. The standard checkbox options have been on the page for a long long time, and almost none is implemented. I've submitted suggestions several times, the earliest more than a year ago, but still no deleting attachments, no importing other mails, no archiving inactive labels, no anything.
- carcrazy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Yep, Google is pretty awesome!
- gavintlgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4cutechimp:
Perhaps after this digg hype over that page, they'll work harder on the stuff? I for one had no idea that they had it. - DharmaTurtle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8My suggestion:
A place where you can type notes to yourself and they will be automatically saved. This way, I won't have to e-mail notes and files to myself all the time. - NeOFoX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You have to try google notebook. I use it with the FF plugin and everytime I need to save some text, I save a lot of time.
Google rocks! - TheTankengine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@DharmaTurtle
There is really no need to send e-mails to yourself. GMail automatically saves your messages after a few seconds. So, just write out whatever you have to, then just make sure its saved! A draft is created and it will sit there until you send it. Its much easier this way. - lengau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Piranhaa: How about using the IMAP labeling system (IIRC, IMAP does have one)?
After that, the Inbox/Outbox/etc. problem is quite easy to get around, as, quite honestly, what is the Inbox but a label that GMail enables for each message by default? - nfxbeats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2#1 for me... The ability to send canned responses to emails. Something like a drop down that will put me in reply mode with a premade response like "Thank your for your contribution and feature request.. yadda yadda.."
- cpmcd2000, on 10/12/2007, -18/+10Very Useful...
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+128#1 Complaint:
New Google tools like Google's Word Processor, Picasa Web Album, Spreadsheets: getting data into them is a PITA. Why can't I simply grab data from my email attachments and say "Import into Picasa Web Album", "Open in Google Writely", "Edit Spreadsheet in Google Spreadsheets"?
Google maps works this way for addresses :(.- samgab, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30That's a pretty good suggestion, I like it. Hope you've suggested it to Google.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7I would be amazed if Google arn't already working on this.
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Great suggestion, I just submitted it.
- WhispSil, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I think integration of the services is the way Google will fallow. The have a all bunch of programs and they issued a call for "no more new services".
I suggested integration with Google Docs and Picasa Web, to import attachments into this services.
I also suggested the ability to preview mails like Google Reader list view, without opening the e-mail.
I think that signing with PGP will be welcome, as IMAP support. - student69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I have been suggesting this for awhile, also the other way around, being able to email pdfs and docs from "Docs and spreadsheets"
- bennybertow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I'm sure I've already seen the "open in Google Spreadsheet" when I got an Excel file last week...
- xero9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@bennybertow
I just emailed myself an xls file. No such luck. Sadly, I only had 'view as HTML' and 'download' as an option - takeda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I also seen it working recently, did you open account to the spreadsheet, maybe it only works when you first used it or something :/
- saeche, on 10/12/2007, -11/+3Always display external images sent by my contacts
Automatically apply new filters to old conversations
Ability to add or remove messages from conversations
These are the only three that I really care about.- joshposh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6The second and third are already available o.O
- Halfang, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Not the third. You can't delete a single message from the conversation. You'll delete ALL the conversation!
- xedicate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9submitted the same plus "Delete attachments from a message"
@ joshposh
The second is not yet avaliable as far as I am aware.
I think by "Ability to add or remove messages from conversations" They mean the ability to remove a message from a conversation but NOT deleting it.
As in "Look, I know these emails have the same subject line (eg. "(no subject)") and were sent/received on the same day, but trust me, they are not related".
@ Halfang
You CAN delete a single message from a conversation without deleting all the conversation.
Top of the individual message, "More options" -> "Delete this message" :) - jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8no halfang, you can. look under more options.
edit: xedicate beat me. - Halfang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4thanks a lot, guys =)
Didn't knew that one.
- n00ch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+62My suggestion: Ability to send an email at a later designated time.
I've wanted to do this numerous times in preparation for something I think I might forget to send later.- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17you can save it as a draft.
or do you mean set a time for it to be sent becuase that would be cool. - bigcheez, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39awesome suggestion. you could schedule a call-in-sick email so you don't even have to get up.
- samgab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Yes, and it could integrate with the calendar too.
- dalesmatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9awesome suggestion, being able to send an email at a designated time would be very handy on occasion. (send yourself a reminder being one trivial example)
- rzklkng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Usually referred to as "deferred mail" in other apps. Return reciepts would be nice too.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17you can save it as a draft.
- jaygee, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2I just want to be able to add an image to my outgoing mail with the wysiwyg thing not as an attachment.
- samgab, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Did you know you can drag and drop wysiwyg images into the browser compose window? I do that a fair bit. That way they come up as a proper picture rather than an attachment.
- jmikola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i use the drag-and-drop method myself frequently, but it basically just sources that image to the website i pulled it from. the recipient will either download the embedded image from the same server when they receieve or be prompted to display external images (as in gmail).
it'd be nice to attach some images, and then be able to drag those directly into your own message - or, vice versa, embed them and have the remote images become automatically attached. - martin77, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2you can do this is you use Apple Mail.
Very easy to set up for Gmail use. - prescindor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If you use an email client such as Thunderbird, you can send images that are both displayed inline and also physically stored within the email message as base64.
Another option is to use the Documents application to compose your message. Add the images you want. Then select all, copy, and paste into the Gmail compose window. Your images will display inline, however, they will be hosted on Google's server farm, not embedded in the message itself (as base64).
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31Most of us operate with high res or widescreen displays. I'd like the option to reply to the side of the email instead of below, for easy reference.
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I like that idea. We use Exchange at work and it lets you change how the panels are positioned. very useful.
- Nitrodist, on 10/12/2007, -28/+3How about a standalone Calendar app?
- szembek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13http://calendar.google.com .... did you have something else in mind?
- Nitrodist, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Yeah, a application that you could use offline and not ONLINE. Why the ***** would you think I say stand alone app? Like I didn't know that Google already had that service. You ***** digg idiots.
- bigcheez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know what you meant. With a calendar, I like working from my desktop rather than on-line - it would probably be faster and you could keep it open all the time (hard to do when it's in the browser). All this only if it synced well with calendar.google.com, of course.
- victorminC, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Submitted These...
[X] Always display external images sent by my contacts
[X] Switch Conversation View on or off
[X] Import messages from my other email accounts
[X] I have a better idea: Free IMAP access- tallguy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27IMAP access would be so much better than POP. Its a no brainer
- szembek, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19What's the point of having IMAP when you have web mail? I guess I don't understand. The advantage of IMAP is you can view your messages on your client without storing them locally... isn't this what the web interface does?
- Zelpus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9If you use a smartphone or the like you can control your inbox without having to repeat the process on messges stored in gmail. Using pop it just makes a copy of what is already there but IMAP interacts with the inbox.
- dlsspy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5IMAP is effectively a superset of POP functionality.
You *can* have view stuff only online (ala pine), but in Mail.app, I can synchronize an IMAP box such that it's searchable, viewable, etc... offline. Deletions and new messages will synchronize next time I connect.
It's exactly because we don't always have good connectivity that IMAP is important.
- marnaq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Calendar synchronization through SyncML.
- stefeq, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3thunderbird-lightning sync is the one I'm waiting for
- freexe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Maybe you know about this, but others might like to try http://www.gcalsync.com/ it's really cool and syncs up nicely with the calendar on your phone
- coit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ freexe:
Now that depends on which phone you use, now doesn't it? :-)
I use a Treo 700p, and I don't think that the sync functionality is quite ready for prime time. It would seem to be a no brainer for Google to come up with conduits for Palm and Windows Mobile, but I guess not.
- badtz, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Ability to change your gmail account name and have your old gmail account name redirected to your new account up to XX weeks before expiring the old account.
- Nicolasd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11You could just create a new account and use the forward option of gmail...
- buss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I'd like to be able to download mail from external accounts (my school won't let us forward email anymore) via POP into my gmail.
- WillyMF1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Why and how did they stop forwarding?
- badtz, on 10/12/2007, -17/+4Allow for usernames with 5 characters.
- kwazyJAS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Let me guess. You want badtz@gmail.com
- Shade00a00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3And allow digg users to spam said email addresses.
- badtz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2no i don't want that ;) but it still wouldn't hurt to allow 5 character usernames.
- eric1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I added 'smart tagging'; I'm too lazy to tag most of emails, but wish I did later. Let Gmail do it for me by parsing my email content (which is done anyway) and then tagging it. Should be a toggle in case users don't like this feature.
- kenmantx, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2The ***** are you talking about? GMail doesn't use "tags", so I don't know how you've been tagging email. However, it does use LABELS, which you can create filters to automatically apply the labels based on sender, recipent, subject, or just certain words.
- snorbaard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@ Eric1
Gmail can do that for you by using filters to automatically apply labels
@ Kenmantx
Why the hostility? Gmail call them "labels", Outlook call them "categories". They all do the same thing: assigning a reference (category, label, tag) to an item (email, picture, video, song) allowing filtering without moving it.
- samgab, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5Control-V for paste with an image, such as a screen dump doesn't work with my Gmail window in the browser. I can control-V to paste text, but not images. I can use Outlook, but it would be good if it worked in the browser Gmail window.
This would be handy, cos I have to send screen dumps for certain reasons at times.- Gism0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I'm not sure that is even physically possible! It would have to use some function to check if the clipboard contained an image, grab the image and upload it to gmail then return some html for the input box.
- samgab, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10But Google employs geniuses!
- ddrirc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Not to mention no browser would (should?) allow a site to access the clipboard. I think IE6 does, but I'm pretty sure IE7 doesn't.
- samgab, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Well I'm using IE7, and if I have TEXT on the clipboard, paste from clipboard works. I don't know what you mean about browser not accessing the clipboard, if you hit ctrl-V or right-click and "paste" you're telling it to paste into where-ever the cursor is.
- jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@samgab
regarding your last post, it is the sites that shouldn't be allowed to access the clipboard. broswers themselves can. and this is a feature to be implemented by the browser not the OS
- melmyfinger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+42I requested this:
Remove the "sent on behalf of name@gmail.com" when sending from another account. I'd like to use Gmail for my work account without announcing my personal email address.- natalvc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Agree! I submitted the same suggestion.
- locojones, on 10/12/2007, -15/+6How about a feature to opt out of their underwhelming privacy policy and the indexing and permanent storage of your personal emails?
- unsliced, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13No-one's forcing you to use GMail. Don't like the policy, take your business elsewhere. It's not like you're paying them money ... you are paying them with your information. Don't like the terms, go walk.
- n00ch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7That's a good point though-who hasn't had that discussion about gmail. But the same advice still stands: never use gmail for anything you wouldn't want out in the open anyway. That's really true for anything online anymore.
My understanding though is if u send an encrypted message specifically from your computer with a client like thunderbird equipped with PGP, and the receiver decrypts it from their computer/client with PGP key, gmail gets no information? If that isn't entirely true, it'll at least keep your ISP from snooping. Here's a good post on Thunderbird+GPG for gmail (no this is not my blog):
http://zricks.home.comcast.net/2004/12/gmail-pgp-and-end-to-end-solution.html
- DigiDave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23I hate that every time I email someone they are automatically put in my contact list. I need more control over it. I know it's simple, but it would make my life a google times better.
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11How about letting us see the contents of a message without leaving the inbox like any email client?
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2sounds like you want to be able to expand the message in place. like conversation view, except within the inbox instead?
sounds like a good idea. - jimi1337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@DigitalDud:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1554
If it doesn't work for you, try the original script's location.
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2sounds like you want to be able to expand the message in place. like conversation view, except within the inbox instead?
- rumford, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4i would settle for reliability ;)
- dogm, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Free IMAP is definitely my most wanted feature.
- DigitalDud, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Yeah no kidding. There are times when I'd rather be in Outlook and POP doesn't cut it.
- donnyb, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5I want IMAP..
- westoncampbell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I suggested that they add a feature to allow Gmail users to customize the appearance of their web mail page through use of CSS. While color schemes would be a step up from what is currently offered, I would very much like to customize every aspect of the page by adding my own images, font styles, etc. While this feature would not appeal to all Gmail users, I feel that it would really take off, having people to begin making their own designs and sharing them online. Yes, you may be thinking that people should just use Firefox and the Stylish extension... While I do currently use the extension for this purpose, I would like to save my styles to Gmail's server itself so that my design would not be lost when checking my mail from a computer other than my own.
- westoncampbell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Also, while it's now too late to suggest, I would like to be able to send HTML from the Gmail compose window. It's not something that I do often, but I would like the option to be available if I ever decide to.
- kenmantx, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1The very FIRST of the predetermined questions from Google is "Customize my Gmail color scheme".....geez, read before you post.
- westoncampbell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Why don't you read and stop being a bitch? How's that? Now, if you take a second to actually understand what I was trying to say, we would not be in this argument! My comment was not at all about the color scheme, but more about CSS customization. Yes, CSS can be used for colors, but I want to change more than just colors...
Go be a prick somewhere else next time! - IEatHamburgers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@westoncambell:
"...I want to change more than just colors..."
That's exactly what I suggested, though I also added that there should be a gallery or something where you can choose other people's CSS creations instead if you prefer (and a contest to get people submitting them). I have no problem with the default theme, but it would just be so cool, especially for Gmail for Domains.
- SurDin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2There are also similar pages for gtalk and other services.
- AMozza13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Suggestions for Google Talk are at https://services.google.com/inquiry/talk_suggest
- lihkin, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7I want Gmail to get out of Beta
- senfo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Why? Just so it doesn't say "beta"? It's not like it's unstable or anything. It could be a beta product until the day that I die, but as long as they keep it stable and continue to add the features we request, I couldn't care less if it's labeled a beta product or not.
- gsmithEIDW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@senfo
Beta implies it is either not stable, experimental, for testing purposes only or likely to change drastically. I think many people are still dubious about using the service as their primary e-mail if it does not portray to them a sense that can ultimately be relied on.
Its about time they either stopped taking new users (haven't they enough beta testers at this stage?) and finish the software and proclaim it as stable. If they wish to develop it further the could continue the beta programme seperately in parallel. Its just becoming a joke and its starting to make Google look incompetent to have all these invites floating around and a seemingly haphazard development cycle/schedule.
- gareth84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10i want to be able to select muitple attachments in one go.
- GraemeF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I want permalinks to my messages/conversiations so I can link to my emails from my other documents/webapps.
- kevsedg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes, this is a good idea. If you are emailing amongst groups of people and sure they have the email, you can sort of achieve this by picking out a unique piece of text in the email and send the link as:
http://mail.google.com/mail/?search=query&view=tl&start=0&init=1&fs=1&q=UNIQUE STRING
Sort of works well enough :-)
- kevsedg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes, this is a good idea. If you are emailing amongst groups of people and sure they have the email, you can sort of achieve this by picking out a unique piece of text in the email and send the link as:
- zerod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I want to set the sender account for a group of contacts. ex: if i send the email to ex1@ccc.com, ex2@ccc.com use automatically my ccc.com account.
- SickFinga, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1New message notifier in the google bar
- pcheaven2k, on 10/12/2007, -13/+9Ability to create "Folders" to better organize mail.
- NinjAlt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I'm noticing alot of people get modded down for bringing up folders. Apperently wanting to organize is against the google code? Jesus christ children. HE WANTS SOME FOLDERS! MOD HIM DOWN! How dare he not want to color everything like a childrens coloring book that still makes it hard to find what he wants.
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I think he's being modded down because labels can be used exactly like folders if you want, so the feature is there already.
- thepatryn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I've proposed a new feature: allow for non-Unicode text encoding. I have several Japanese friends who cannot read the emails I send from Gmail because they're UTF-8 encoded. I must write them with a standard email client which allows setting the encoding to ISO-2022-JP. Yes, they could upgrade/configure their browsers to read UTF-8, but they're not techies.
So I'd like to manually change the text encoding in Gmail, either while writing a message, or setting the default encoding for a contact.- juneof44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5In Gmail, go to Settings > General > Check "Outgoing message encoding"
I've never had a problem with the default text encoding setting for sending / reading emails in Japanese. - iOsiris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@thepatryn
Yeah I know what you mean, it would be great if everyone adopted UTF8, but that simply isn't happening yet. For me, sending emails isn't a problem since most people are familiar with switching encodings. Its receiving emails that aren't in UTF8 that is a problem because Gmail forces UTF8 encoding without converting it from its source encoding (which leads to garbage text).
Would be great if you could convert the encoding from received emails
- juneof44, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5In Gmail, go to Settings > General > Check "Outgoing message encoding"
- gasparov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16My suggestion was for the label "unlabeled",it would be usefull for me when i search my messages
- unrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can already search for unlabelled emails if you use firefox. Search for the gmail Unlabelled script.
- yubbob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4make the compose window larger, or at least be able to save a setting for small, medium, or large.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You can undock it you know right?
- teewurstmann, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Flag a message that you want to reply to. I get lots of emails every day and sometimes I don't have time right away to write a reply. Saying something like "remind me every two days to reply to this message" would be great. I also get emails that say something like "Please contact me again in the first week of November"... Flagging a message and setting a date when a reply is due would be great too...
- freexe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Have you tried using the stars for this? I use it as "messages I need to act upon" kinda thing.
Plus if you reply to a message you get "Add event info" which you can use to setup email reminders. I know it's not the same, but your suggestion is a very specialized requirement. - teewurstmann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Using the star for this is a good idea! Thanks, I'll try that.
- freexe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Have you tried using the stars for this? I use it as "messages I need to act upon" kinda thing.
- Portwineboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30I'd like to be able to sort by attachment size.
- SeanFL, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3yes...that would help tame the size of my mailbox. Right now it's impossible to sort by size...only soft if it has an attachment which doesn't help if you have thousands that have attachments of various sizes.
- kdehead, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5sort by attachment size.. good idea!
- joecritch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There are a lot of features in that list that have already been implemented, such as the Delete button and automatically filter existing conversations (well, by clicking a link).
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I requested integration with google bookmarks, if I had my bookmarks in my email account I wouldn't have any reason to go anywhere else.
- AlphaMack, on 09/26/2008, -4/+9One word: IMAP.
- romanr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Damn, no IMAP on that list!
- jvimal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Automatic Tab Completion of emails in the "Search email" , or "Create a Filter" boxes. I wonder why Google didnt put this in the beginning. :)
- norz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1by "email" I guess you mean "email addresses"...
- moonwell, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1I have a better idea:
I'd like an internal flooder like hackteck so I can send thousands of letters to my friend if he messing with me and I want you to stop logging all user activity immediately and don't read my ***** mailbox all day, thanks.
Thanks for your suggestion!
We love hearing from our users. Your feedback will help us make Gmail even better.
:D - glasgowm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Everyone select "I have a better idea" and put this in
"Ability to "Blacklist" A large group of email address. This would allow you to select as many e-mails as you wanted (say, every email in your spam email box) and permanently block their email addresses. "
You know you want to :)- kenmantx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is dumb because there's not a single spammer out there who uses their own email address. They use randomly generated fake email address that will never be used again. So what you'd end up with is a gigantic list of email address that nobody ever used... or if they did get used, they'd be used by legitimate senders, and not spammers. You should read up on how spammers work...
- BonusEruptus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I added these:
Block or bounce emails from certain addresses/servers
Blacklist/Whitelist
Yeah, you won't block spammers with a blacklist. That's for getting your annoying drama-queen sister-in-law to stop sending you pictures of her ugly babies after repeatedly asking her to take you off her mailing list. The whitelist is for blocking spam. - ATFlorio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if the blacklist allowed wildcards, some of the spam would be stopped
ex: "spam@spamland.com" arrives in inbox
add "*@spamland.com" and any address with the ending @spamland.com would be stopped. i know sometimes i have multiple messages from someone from the same place
it wouldnt completely solve the spam problem, but it would help cut down on it
- bebopredux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Have the HTML features of Writely built into Gmail so rather than copy and paste from Writely to Gmail I can do it within Gmail.
- Kinetic2006, on 10/12/2007, -2/+01. Multiple accounts, one interface as in calendar. In Calendar one can easily view more than one calendar and share between people. I would like to access more than one account and be able to check/uncheck which ones are displayed.
2. Outlook plugin with synchronization. ...Well, at least I can wish...
3. Treo synchronization (not browser-based)
4. IMAP - evansls, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Trash Organized By Delete Date Not Send Date -- I hate that whenever I delete an email, it's organized by the date of the email was sent to me and not by when it was deleted. Sometimes I'm so busy that I don't get to delete my email until the end of the week. So if i delete something and I need to get it I can't find it. The trash can should be organized by the date of it being deleted not by when it was sent to me. At least give me the option to choose this in preferences.
- toxicredm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If you think there's a chance you might need it why delete it? Just archive it.
- evansls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I always seem to delete something i think i won't need, but later learn i really needed it. ie. coupons from godaddy or something...
- miscoco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9A few minor suggestions, but important to me: I'd like to be able to toggle my sig off or on for each message, because sometimes I want it and sometimes I don't. Don't need to see my own sig 12 times in a long discussion thread. Also, I want the ability to have the sig inserted above the message you are replying to, not all the way at the bottom.
One more on that note...if we can send and receive from different email accounts it would be great to have multiple sigs depending on which account you are sending from.
And no, I'm not obsessed with sigs.- norz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2less important, but also interesting than previous suggestions: automatically cycle signatures from a set of them, eg: load them in a textarea, one line per signature.
But more important: signature setting *per account* (ie: from identity) would be really nice!

- Kinetic2006, on 10/12/2007, -3/+05. API so that Plaxo, LinkedIn, etc. can integrate their offerings.
6. Synchronization of contacts with Outlook, Windows, MacOS X (although I don't use it, yet!), and my Treo
7. Ability to send with a personalized email address without my gmail address showing up! - Kinetic2006, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18. Filtered view of all the email with photos in my inbox
9. A better tagging UI that doesn't have problems after my tag collection exceeds ~20
10. Smart tagging that can guess and suggest tags based on past behavior - umichwolverine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3be able to directly upload a file into my storage space without having to email it to myself
- szembek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, that and being able to store more than 10mb/message would be nice.
