Incredible Photoshop contest with dual 30 LCDs and MacPro for the winner!
crestock.com — Supposedly the biggest Photoshop contest of the year, but the prizes are INSANE …from iPods and MacBooks to a Quad Core MacPro with Dual 30 HD Cinema LCDs!!!
- 909 diggs
- digg it
- garymac, on 11/14/2007, -18/+5DUDE!! That’s just downright pimpology!!
- pleasureman, on 11/14/2007, -1/+32@garymac…definitely pimpology – AND not on spec and the artist keep the rights to their artwork for a change….I HATE how some sites trick people into designing stuff for them and then claim all rights etc….
- flyosity, on 11/14/2007, -0/+10Not on spec is really a big deal for contests like this. Good on Crestock for knowing what really matters to designers.
- hasansexy, on 11/13/2007, -1/+6What is not on spec?
- strictnein, on 11/13/2007, -3/+4the opposite of on spec
- gbarger, on 11/13/2007, -0/+7To actually answer your question, the computer's they're giving away aren't the default computers that are offered. They've been upgraded.
- hasansexy, on 11/13/2007, -1/+6What is not on spec?
- rudy23, on 11/14/2007, -0/+20note from site PS: You retain all copyright. We will not sell your images.
besides what would a site do with designs made out of anaked torso bananas and bush. seems like a genuine competition to me.- iticu, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4Bananas and Bush, damn, never thought of it like that.
Well done competition wesbite, you made me laugh. =p
- iticu, on 11/13/2007, -0/+4Bananas and Bush, damn, never thought of it like that.
- Laxaloot, on 11/13/2007, -1/+10@pleasureman.... you know... there is a reply button...
- Audacitor, on 11/13/2007, -2/+2sometimes...
- joeyjojo, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3Wow...yea, this is truly a 'contest' and not a 'do a bunch of work for us for free and we'll randomly reward only one of you with a paltry token prize that pales in comparison to the amount of effort you gave us for free' that nearly every other site sponsors these days (and, unexplicably, ALWAYS attracts entries).
- flyosity, on 11/14/2007, -0/+10Not on spec is really a big deal for contests like this. Good on Crestock for knowing what really matters to designers.
- YuriArcurs, on 11/13/2007, -7/+2HOLY!!!! I wanna win that thing!
- flyosity, on 11/13/2007, -5/+4Definitely the biggest of the year, these guys really know what they're doing. iPods are the first round prize, then MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and it all ends with the quad-core Mac Pro system with dual 30" screens.
- Nate53085, on 11/14/2007, -2/+69I read the title and was like....damn 30 LCDs. That would be a hot prize
- BoneheadFarker, on 11/13/2007, -8/+4...unless they were 14" LCD from circa 2001...
- andycr512, on 11/13/2007, -3/+2(whoops, please bury)
- BoneheadFarker, on 11/13/2007, -8/+4...unless they were 14" LCD from circa 2001...
- mclewell, on 11/13/2007, -9/+2Why is a picture of Bush in the final of round 1?
- euarchonta, on 11/13/2007, -0/+8If you had read the article, you would know that it's one of the source images for Round 1 of the contest.
- benbrooks101, on 11/14/2007, -0/+6Why not? Admit it, He is a recognized face all over the world, I have some great ideas for this but my Photo shop skills will let me down against the professionals.
- theOster, on 11/14/2007, -1/+4i'm inclined to believe that professional shoppers have a pretty standard palette of tricks that, quite honestly, are recognizable from a mile away. do something new and different. technique isn't everything :)
- Audacitor, on 11/13/2007, -0/+2Mine aren't worth much either, but I'm still gonna try. I'd hate myself if I didn't.
- iticu, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3Personally I cannot wait to see different designers views on that Bush picture.. if only I was skilled enough to include mine.
- hummer13, on 11/14/2007, -2/+18now to figure out how to get that manikin's crotch on bush's face.
- benbrooks101, on 11/14/2007, -0/+9Don't you mean Bush's face on the Manikin's Crotch?
- TheWindBlows, on 11/13/2007, -2/+0It does that automatically.
- Audacitor, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3Wish granted:

- benbrooks101, on 11/14/2007, -0/+9Don't you mean Bush's face on the Manikin's Crotch?
- rykerbeck, on 11/14/2007, -4/+0KICK. ASS. *immediately enters*
- alpinweiss88, on 11/13/2007, -6/+5Can I use The GIMP?
- rudy23, on 11/14/2007, -2/+22yes. but if you win the give you the asus eee pc instead as a prize.
- JasonHilton, on 11/14/2007, -9/+4*opens photoshop*
- rudy23, on 11/14/2007, -2/+16we really didnt need to know that
- strictnein, on 11/14/2007, -0/+18*random movement*
- theOster, on 11/14/2007, -1/+8*scratches scrotum*
- firechill, on 11/14/2007, -0/+10*reads digg comments*

- strictnein, on 11/14/2007, -0/+18*random movement*
- rudy23, on 11/14/2007, -2/+16we really didnt need to know that
- tmc1, on 11/13/2007, -7/+2read the form; it's not even proper English. "Where to send your price if you win?" it's bogus. just go finish your lunch and move on.
- extr3mer, on 11/14/2007, -5/+16I'll just draw a penis on some picture. That's humorous and creative!
- rudy23, on 11/13/2007, -7/+5any farkers here?
- rwallen, on 11/13/2007, -3/+3I hope not the entries will be nothing but unfunny star wars collages and pictures of happy cat.
- tuzy2k, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2Aye.
- DaleoftheUK, on 11/14/2007, -4/+630 LCD's, this isn't pimp my ride.
- captaincoconut, on 11/13/2007, -14/+6Why are all of the prizes Apple crap?
- xtc46, on 11/14/2007, -2/+9because it is the industry standard for design professionals and it is a design contest?
- neodorian, on 11/13/2007, -5/+1Because creative types wouldn't stoop so low as to run photoshop on ugly hardware.
- MacParrot, on 11/14/2007, -1/+3I guess captaincoconut won't be in the running since it seems to require creativity
- iticu, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2Don't pretend, Apple is for designing, Windows is for gaming and general use. =)
- chedabob, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2I wouldn't buy a Mac, but I certainly wouldn't say no to a free one.
- DungeonKeeper, on 11/14/2007, -1/+6Oh how I wish I had talent right now. Wow.
"What do a naked man, a banana and president bush have in common?" - quber, on 11/14/2007, -1/+13If you need a genuine copy of Photoshop to win then there won't be many entrants
- cryonix, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2does it have to be Photoshop? maybe; Gimpshop? Paint?
- ThreeDee912, on 11/14/2007, -7/+2What, no 8-core Mac Pro? Lame.
- Tam2, on 11/14/2007, -0/+7Deadline:
Tuesday 21 Nov ?? - Tuesday 20 NOV - manbergur, on 11/13/2007, -2/+2nice choice of source images fir 1st round.. do we have to use them all.. i guess george bush fans didnt create this contest
- iticu, on 11/13/2007, -1/+1You can choose which one, I would magine.
- Ayb4btu, on 11/13/2007, -0/+1From the competition page:
For each round we will supply a set of source photos from our image library. Your entry must be based on one or several of these photos, but you are free to do with them whatever you like.
- utahnkid, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4Just out of curiosity.. Why do websites have contests like these? They don't get to keep the rights and I didn't see very many ads on the page so what do they benefit? That computer with those monitors is worth a few thousand dollars.. How do they afford to just give it away?
- kernokerno, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4promotion and revenues because of it?
- xtc46, on 11/14/2007, -0/+5To advertise for themselves. If they hit the digg front page, it means they will see an additional 20k+ hits easily (probably closer to 30k if not more) many of those are going to be artists looking to win the prize. Since the website sells stock photos (which artists and bloggers use) there is a good chance they will sell some of them. Basically a whole lot of buzz generation.
- utahnkid, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2I figured it was something like that.. But I didn't look into that site enough to realize that they actually sold something. That makes sense, thanks for the reply.
- tracydanger, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2And, people seeing the quality of the photos that they're supposed to use in the contest will make them think, "Hey, this would be a good resource."
- SilentScream, on 11/13/2007, -4/+0A. Because naive Diggers and/or plants will provide free advertising that otherwise would have cost them millions of dollars.
B. Because participants must register with the site and potentially become contributors, which will then be raped by Crestock by receiving only 20-30% of their minuscule rates.
Microstock is Amway for the web.- ers35, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4"millions of dollars"
You clearly do not know much about advertising on the Internet.- SilentScream, on 11/13/2007, -2/+1Perhaps a bit of an exageration. Hundreds of thousands of dollars for the equivalent of a "top Digg" listing, however? I don't think that is a far-fetched comparison.
- ers35, on 11/14/2007, -0/+4"millions of dollars"
- lvl3bomb, on 11/14/2007, -1/+0They are able to sell the pictures you submit in print or any other media.
Some of these pictures are really nice and people would like to buy them regardless if they win a contest or not.
Ez money. We do the work for them. They sell.
- Sommerlost, on 11/14/2007, -2/+1publicity I'd guess, utahnkid
- chesscat, on 11/13/2007, -3/+1Notice how none of the prizes mention a Windows Vista machine.
- xtc46, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3you mean a competition to design something, held by a page that sells stock photos for design/publication isn't offering a tool not typically used in the design world as a prize? SHOCKING!
- Lionhart, on 11/13/2007, -1/+1Well you could install windows vista on it... if you really wanted too..
- SilentScream, on 11/14/2007, -3/+1Buried. Why provide free advertising to a company that pays photographers and designers 20-30% of their low-ball pricing? If they are going to run an e-sweat-shop, at least make them pay for the advertising.
- DocGirlfriend, on 11/13/2007, -4/+2In order to submit an image, you must be a member of their site, and you have to agree to their Terms of Service.
"The Supplier will receive 20% of the sale price per credit sale (images bought with credits) and $0.25 per subscription sale (images bought by subscribers). The payment will be executed via PayPal (www.paypal.com) and paid out to the Supplier once $100US is accumulated in his/her Crestock account. The parties agree that the sale price can be re-evaluated by Crestock at any time."
So they can make money off the submissions you make with their stuff, and you only see that money if you make $100 or more.
And then:
"By uploading Content to www.crestock.com, the Supplier admits a non-exclusive licence to display the uploaded Content on Crestock's homepage (www.crestock.com). Furthermore this allows Crestock to sub-licence the uploaded image to Crestock's customers for potential download. This in accordance with the terms of the Crestock Content Licence Agreement, a copy of which you have read, and acknowledge understanding and agreeing to."
They have the potential to make money off your work. It's never "no strings attached." I'd think twice before entering this contest.- pleasureman, on 11/13/2007, -1/+4Read the **contest** rules you imbecile http://www.crestock.com/blog/design/contest2007/ru ...
The very first two explicitly states:
# Entries submitted to this contest will not be re-sold or added to the Crestock Stock Image collection.
# By submitting an entry to this contest, the contestant grants Crestock the rights to freely publish said image online or in printed media in relation to the contest, without remuneration.
where the latter means that they are allowed to post the images, but **only** in relation with the contest.
It's totally legit, and it's the second time they're doing it. The guy that won their Photoshop contest in 2006 was Pekka Veikkolainen from Finland, and you can read the interview here http://www.crestock.com/news/how-do-you-create-a-w ...
- pleasureman, on 11/13/2007, -1/+4Read the **contest** rules you imbecile http://www.crestock.com/blog/design/contest2007/ru ...
- arbituator, on 11/13/2007, -2/+1Photoshopped.
- ripstuntz, on 11/13/2007, -1/+2Ahhhh, i love my EEE :)
- dn11, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3maybe it's just me, but i can't figure out what they are asking for here. there are no guidelines except to use the supplied images. what kind of "design" are they looking for? they say there is supposed to be a "theme" but the images are totally random
- eatbeefjerky, on 11/13/2007, -1/+1It says that you can do whatever you want with them as long as the image(s) are clearly a CENTRAL PART OF YOUR DESIGN. Creativity, you must use it.
- jeremyduffy, on 11/13/2007, -0/+3I know there was more than two images, but all I could see was a penis and George Bush
- chewties, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2two flagrant *****?
- guruboyguru, on 11/13/2007, -2/+0OH MY GOD Apple's 30" displays cost WAY TOO MUCH. Anyone who wins round 4 could retire that day.
- Rasputen, on 11/14/2007, -2/+2How many people here have ever made money on their photoshop hobby? So, let them use my images as they see fit.
- OsiVert, on 11/14/2007, -0/+3I would worry more about the Something Awful Goon's or the Worth 1000 crowd.
- rickvug, on 11/14/2007, -1/+2Disclaimer: I helped build freshbrain.org.
If you want to enter another legitimate graphic design contest with a great chance of winning head on over to www.freshbrain.org/get-involved/contest where 5 iPod Touches are up for grabs. So far there are about 70 entries, with a good percentage of them being done by beginners. At this point I think that any professional graphic designer who enters the FreshBrain contest will walk away with an iPod Touch. If you have any questions post in reply to this message and I'll do my best to answer. - matt.rubin, on 11/14/2007, -1/+1crap wish i knew photoshop
w/e i am winging this
