- cosmikdebris, on 10/10/2007, -2/+222"The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave". Llanfairpwll is on the island of Anglesey (called Ynys Môn in Welsh). It is separated from the Wales mainland by the Menai Straits. Useless trivia, the village name was used in the 1960's cult film Barbarella as the password for Dildano's headquarters.

- frenchyooy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21I think it's right next to "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of BROWN hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the BLACK cave" . Sometimes, you have to be precise to avoid confusion.
- Stonekeeper, on 10/20/2007, -0/+3That's nothing. I live in a place called Blaenau Ffestiniog! Glyn to win!!! oh.... er... nevermind....

all of them..."- u8myfoood, on 10/10/2007, -5/+107Actually Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch does not contain an "U"
- Emilio8605, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30Is that AN "U", or A "U"?
- elnerdo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30A "U"
- h0dg3s, on 10/10/2007, -15/+1An U. It sounds weird, but you precede all vowels with "an".
- xxpor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+26no you dont, you precede all vowel SOUNDS with an "an"
- Ratty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22In Welsh, W is a vowel and often used in places where you'd see a U. e.g. "bus" in Welsh is "bws". The Welsh alphabet is quite a bit different from the the English one even though the character set is the same.
- Stonekeeper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6you forgot to mention that Welsh also has "double character" letters such as ll,rh,dd,ff,ch.....er..... i'm sure there's more ;)
- nosecohn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4What's with the quadruple 'l' in that name?
- Andrej73, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2pwned!!

- Emilio8605, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30Is that AN "U", or A "U"?
- f8pc, on 10/10/2007, -24/+2Actually, the title is not correct. Only the first couple and last letters are accurate. Look at the picture again, there is a "U."
- thatsoccerchick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+17that's the pronunciation... the top line is the actual name
- aliguana, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5we don't need no steenkin vowels...
- u8myfoood, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Yes, you do because "W dn't nd n stkng vwls..." doesn't seem to have the same effect.
- Ragzouken, on 10/10/2007, -0/+31It does, however, look like Welsh.
- u8myfoood, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Yes, you do because "W dn't nd n stkng vwls..." doesn't seem to have the same effect.

- u8myfoood, on 10/10/2007, -5/+107Actually Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch does not contain an "U"
- ScrumFritter, on 10/10/2007, -19/+5The Welsh sure hate their vowels...
- brucesan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Actually in Welsh, the letters A E I O U Y W are all considered vowels.
- Audacitor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3An example of their W in action is:
Cwrw!
That's the welsh word for beer! ^^- DavidtheDuke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2How the hell do you pronounce cwrw!?
- DaffyDuck, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I'll have a go at it.

- wiifm69, on 10/10/2007, -4/+242Longest place name in the world: Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu, which is Maori for "the place where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed and swallowed mountains, known as 'landeater,' played his flute to his loved one."
- veracon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+30I prefer the Thai name of Bangkok: Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit
Which translates to: The city of angels, the great city, the eternal jewel city, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukam - fluffyllemon, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Tetaumatawhakatangihangakoauaotamateaurehaeaturipukapihimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuaakitanarahu is longer. It's actually the same place. Wikipedia told me so.

- xShad0w, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7Sounds like something they would say in family guy, "the place where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed and swallowed mountains, known as 'landeater,' played his flute to his loved one."
- BlackBladeX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0The fullname of Bankok is 163 letters. This one is pretty cool though.
- gcnaddict, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1According to notepad (with static character sizes), Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu is one letter shorter than Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
So I don't know which pipe you're smoking. - Jesusridesabike, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1why cant these people jsut give places a name?

- RockinRoel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"played his flute to his loved one"
I wonder what that could mean...

- Azimuth1, on 10/20/2007, -5/+23I went there several years ago, nice place.
- Wartyboskfapped, on 10/20/2007, -1/+7I've been there too. Can't say it.
- psylence, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Did you burst into flames?
- Dracker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2no but my trailer got burned down by some Welsh guy on the internet.
- psylence, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Did you burst into flames?
- blacklint, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I was just there as well. They were genius picking that name for the town - my tour bus went there just because of it.
- Ohnodonho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I have been as well. There were a few kids (no older than 13) riding around "throwing" (for lack of a better word) rude gestures at us while we left.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1liars
- Bruno43, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Been there also, Llanfair PG, when I was there kids drove by squirting us with water guns
- Wartyboskfapped, on 10/20/2007, -1/+7I've been there too. Can't say it.
- jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -13/+2is that a phonetic spelling underneath the place name?
- godamit, on 10/10/2007, -11/+2yep, it's an old irish or english, dunno, and that below is how it is spelled
- richardiscool, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It's Welsh, *****.
- clarkd, on 10/10/2007, -11/+9No, it's an alternate spelling. WTF do you think it is?
- jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I don't know, but why would the phonetic spelling start the word out with two L's in a row.
- brucesan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Because in well two Ls next to each other produces a different phonetic sound. LL is a single letter in the welsh alphabet. As is dd and ch.
- Azimuth1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Because it's not phoneticised for English speakers, it's phoneticised for Welsh speakers.
- jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I don't know, but why would the phonetic spelling start the word out with two L's in a row.
- drlha, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Correct.
- mablco, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7no....it just looks that way........
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Now compare that to what Opera spits out if you use the "voice" command ;)
- cypherspace, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It's supposed to be phonetic but it's not actually that accurate. There are better approximations!
- godamit, on 10/10/2007, -11/+2yep, it's an old irish or english, dunno, and that below is how it is spelled
- Thorpe, on 10/20/2007, -4/+77This title totally didn't like the Digg Google IG module. :(
- imablackguy, on 10/20/2007, -0/+2This title totally didn't like my cramped width=40 rss feed either.
- TimeIsTissue, on 10/10/2007, -37/+15... But will it blend?
- chrismccorkle, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3Why this comment is buried... no idea. Nice one

- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2LLanfairpg is the common shortening and even that's longer than most city names
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Seeing as Digg gave me a double post, have a wikipedia entry on the glory that is Pot Noodles
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pot_Noodles - pritch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Llanfairpwll is what the locals call it, and is how many of the roadsigns (the non-touristy ones) have it.
- Dekken, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2I was there once, I didn't have the slightest clue of wtf it was though.
- theheyes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+44Been there, nice place. Ironically its a small place. Theres also a pub across the road from the train station that has a sign the full length of the building to accomodate the name. A lot of people just say "Llanfair P. G." for obvious reasons.
- ussr2003, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1I like how they tell us the way out.
- AirRaven, on 10/10/2007, -6/+60God bless the Welsh.

- warhorse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Only ewe.
- EdwardsNH, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Thanks :) No one ever conquered the Welch. They just eventually teamed up with us. Best damn archers ever.
- cosmikdebris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2WELSH ... Talking about archers though, in the village churchyard here there is an ancient Yew tree, longbows were made from it that were used at the Battle of Agincourt 1415.

- WalesAlex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24We do speak english, moron.
- Azimuth1, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8As opposed to regular English?
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1why?
- barroni, on 10/20/2007, -2/+191I will donate beer money if Alex and Kevin use it on diggnation and get the name right
- WalesAlex, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2It's not really that hard to learn, I learnt it in one lesson for Short Course GCSE Welsh 2nd lang lol.
- pritch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3But, being brought up in Wales, you'd have spent your life up to that point being exposed to Welsh pronunciations. Once you actually put together all the sounds, the Llanfaripwll... is a very easy one to say. Knowing how to make the sounds is a different matter; I've tried in vain to get my (English) colleagues to prounounce 'Ll' correctly; many of them stare in awe (I think it's awe) when they hear me talking to people back home about places like Llangyfelach and Ystradfellte.
- ChocChunkOaties, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'll never trust my friend to teach me to speak Welsh again. I can't spell it in Welsh so i'll just spell it how it sounds in English...
Tyn draa wey ti angon cowart does NOT mean: Hello, how are you? (It means You smell! You need a shower). And I also learnt not to say that as a chat up line!
- reynish, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I'll buy them a beer if this gets on the vidcast
- essjay, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3As long as they remember that double "L"s in Welsh aren't prounounced with an "ell" sound but more a "chc" sound. Actually, I have no idea how you phonetically write the double l sound in Welsh.
- localzuk, on 10/20/2007, -0/+4It is kinda like the beginnings of clearing your throat, as a letter.

- fdiskit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I think it would be more entertaining to give them the beer BEFORE saying it in the next diggnation b/c.

The longest town name in Thailand. It doesn't even fit in this comment.

- krinn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Wow, this long title totally messed up the page formatting on the front page

- JSchwage, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2He never has to use that button! He just goes back and looks at this picture!
- Cov3rt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0He uses Roboform!

- KnightMareInc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+115hate to be the guy on the train having to announce that stop everyday.
- AvengeX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8They have recorded voices for a reason!!
- cosmikdebris, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13He'd have a wail of a time. Those that can pronounce it are really proud of the fact and show off like hell!
- PJBonoMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I have a mate who is Welsh-- You'd be surprised how easily they can pronounce it, with little effort.
- loqqq, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26Try saying that one time fast.
- AndySomnifac, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19Hell, try saying it one time slowly.
- cfl1497, on 10/10/2007, -16/+2Buried for being older than time itself.
- expat001, on 10/10/2007, -15/+4But will it blend?
- pb3623, on 10/10/2007, -3/+39The C is silent.
- pritch, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2I'm going to be picky here; there's actually no 'c' in it. In Welsh, 'ch' (and 'll', 'ff', 'dd', 'ng', 'ph', 'rh' and 'th') are considered to be single letters.
- keebler, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I think it was a joke... and quite a good one at that. :)
- JohnQPrivate, on 10/10/2007, -11/+2Now THAT pic says it all. Literally.
- CeeJayDK, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Dugg down for not knowing the literal meaning of the word Literally.
- ryanwritescopy, on 10/10/2007, -16/+2That's nothing! Though easy to type, my hometown of QWERTYUIOP{}-ASDFGHJKL:"-ZXCVBNM - ? is nearly impossible to pronounce.
- Naughtyme, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Beh, it was originally known as Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll. In the 19th Century it was given its long name to try and develop it as a commercial and tourist centre.
Locals know it as Llanfairpwll or Llanfair.
Welsh commercialism - that worked to some extent. - GaidinTS, on 10/10/2007, -10/+3I've been there, and I have the crazy ass name stamped on my Passport.
- sethisastud, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0Me too
- mercurysquad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3passport stamped at a local train station?
- brucesan, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3I live a 4 minutes drive from here. It's nothing special.
- ZepFloyd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17so much for Antidisestablishmentarianism or pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (a type of lung disease)
- nationalist, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1call it 'pneumoconiosis'...it's not a rare disease; they are even lawyer commercials about it ("if you've been exposed to asbestos...")
- paradigm1220, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1(black lung)
- PotoinMan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1my fifth grade teacher used to make us learn that word until our eyes bled.
that bitch.
- neonsox, on 10/10/2007, -17/+1Looks like your typical Indian (dot not feather) name such as Jaggahesebethavitarjizzamet Singhamusitakumar, or you can call him Jay when you call outsourced tech support.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13So, you find a way to turn this into a racial jab, even though MANY different cultures have absurdly long names?
You suck. No wonder you have a rough time with Indian tech support: the only thing that you remember they tell you is their name.
- bromac, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13So, you find a way to turn this into a racial jab, even though MANY different cultures have absurdly long names?
