- 706 diggs
- digg it
- JonRohan, on 10/11/2007, -12/+56stop peddling apollo on us.
- corevette, on 10/11/2007, -5/+8so....this will be great...knowing it's only for windows and mac....
- manogamez, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3RSS feed not only takes up less resources but also provides easier sorting and provides more than 10 articles for viewing.
This is really quite useless. The funny part is that when you click a link it opens ie7 into digg. - insanebrain, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Apollo ?
- driller131, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Tried apollo now and can't understand what is the use of it, if everything it provides can be done in firefox or in any other browser. and isn't XUL supposed to be a framework for building these kind of apps only?
And wats more no linux support for apollo...cross platform indeed - ElectricGrandpa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2An Apollo runtime will be coming out eventually. Apollo itself is only in alpha right now.
"everything it provides can be done in firefox or in any other browser"
That's not true at all. It's got all sorts of desktop app capabilities(file system etc.) as well as HTML+Flash combined.
You're going to be seeing it more and more, so get used to it :) - Sumyunguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is a sweet little app. You can track your submissions/diggs, your friends submissions/diggs, or specific stories of interest.
I don't understand what everyone is complaining about. Do you complain because you have to install a program to view PDFs? No. Do you complain because you have to install a program to open and download .torrent files? No
Stop bitchin'! Certain apps run in certain environments. You made the decision to install an alternative OS...Live with it! The support is in progress...

Wait your turn.
- Universal, on 10/11/2007, -3/+37...Some screenshots of Mini Digg for those who don't want to download Apollo:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/universals/512510217/ - ryanmetcalf, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4Took time to download Apollo :(
It's cool, but I'm in agreement with the others. We don't want to have to download&install something new just to use some of these entries. - ilkeryoldas, on 10/11/2007, -7/+5Not useful
- TaylorTAP, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Sucks the life out of my dual-core. WACK!
- Sumyunguy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1That's why you get a Dual-QuadCore :)
- edenj, on 10/11/2007, -3/+22Passing on Apollo...Sorry!
- jonr, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I only get an installation error. Way to go... Something about missing some 32x32-digg-guy.png
- myt29, on 10/11/2007, -3/+0I bet when 1,024 digg guys are missing, there bound to be installation issues.
- MattTurner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+26why not just go to www.digg.com to see stories?
- tHePeOPle, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10See, it's revolutionary thinking like this that we really need around here. ***** apollo.
- Roybertito, on 10/11/2007, -7/+5I can't understand what people have against Apollo. It's the first truly cross-platform development tool, and sure, you need a runtime to use the apps, but Apollo is fantastic, and there are some great apps out for it.
This is a great idea - great implementation, and I love the way it looks. It'll be hard to vote.- leszek, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11you can't say that it is cross-platform if it don't work with linux...
- m242, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9"It's the first truly cross-platform development tool, and sure, you need a runtime to use the apps, but Java is fantastic, and there are some great apps out for it."
Fixed that for you. Alternatively, last I checked, HTML and Javascript are cross-platform.
- myt29, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Useless without Apollo for Linux.
- Lionhart, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Anyone mind saying what is wrong with Apollo? I haven't really used it before and am wondering why everyone seems to be against it.
- leszek, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8it is not cross platform -> don't work with linux
- Lionhart, on 10/11/2007, -8/+4Well even most people that use linux have at least 1 Windows or Mac machine. So everyone is basically just being a bunch of whiney babies? I bet the majority of you people that are complaining that it doesn't work on Linux don't even use it. You know kind of like people that digg anything with the word Linux in it just because they think it makes them cool on digg. Whatever, /rant.
- tizz66, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3It *IS* cross-compatible, it just doesn't work with Linux, hence all the whining. It works fine on Windows and Mac, which together make up somewhere in the region of 98% commercial desktop operating systems.
- AdamTReineke, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Q: Does Apollo support Linux?
A: Apollo 1.0 will not be available on Linux. We plan to release Linux support shortly after the 1.0. release. While we had originally planned to support Linux in the 1.0 timeframe, we have had to wait on the core Flash Player's support for Linux to be finalized.

Well then, try peddling apolo on me after the Linux version comes out. Until then, it's dead to me.
- Kratos76, on 10/11/2007, -9/+14@dburka:
I realize you are Digg staff, and that's great. But the fact that there are currently eight frontpage 'recently popular' digg stories you've submitted is a little unusual but understandable. What's really annoying to me is how vague the Titles are, especially when viewing the Technology section in an RSS reader. I would hope that digg staff members would lead by a little better example than this. Thanks for hearing my .02
edit: by "vague title," I mean that one or two words is non descriptive and even less than fragment to help us decide if we want to read the article.- Nick22, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9this is how they are doing the digg contest. Users vote by digging the stories. Look at the contest page if you dont believe me
- unloud, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4( the contest page: http://digg.com/contest )
- HOTM, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I wish I could comment with this, then I would enjoy it so much.
- rfalloon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Surely i have an RSS feed for that?
- easyone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Until I can view and digg articles WITHIN the mini program instead of having to click and then digg it through a web browser, there is no reason for me to use a completely separate program.
- drinkmorejava, on 10/11/2007, -10/+1DIGG SUCKS *****
- Cyberdactyl, on 10/11/2007, -11/+4.
DIGG has become corrupt and dysfunctional. . .dburka has 8 stories on the front page, MAYBE 1 of them worthy.
.- unloud, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4http://digg.com/contest
It's how the contest is being run. Calm down. - Cyberdactyl, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2I am looking FORWARD to the results, but do we need it spread across the entire front page? Why not take all of these and link em to one page. Wait a minute. . .
. . . sort of
. . like
. . . your. . . link.

.... :( - Fordi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12Holy *****, but that's ridiculously slow. ***** flash-nightmare of an application.
And, please; don't blame my PC; for it to be 'mini', it should perform faster than Digg in a browser on the same hardware.
It doesn't, so it fails.- zappo1776, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm using an old windows machine I dug out of my closet to run this (pentium 4) and it's not slow at all.
- Fordi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You have a strange concept of 'old', my friend.
- dyxdavid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0It conusmes a lot of resources.
cpu as well as memory.
the design is okay. pretty neat!- Fordi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1But it would be better represented as a XUL app, if we're going for uselessly huge frameworks.
- bpapa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2OK so this is the second one I've gone to look at. I kinda grumbled at having to install something, but I did install Apollo. I tried to download the app itself, but it failed when I tried to install. I guess I'll just skip this one.
- kdehead, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2no Linux client? not interested.
- darkhero, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2***** apollo!
- Kratos76, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Personally, I'm partial to Starbuck.
- Oatmeal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"This application could not be installed or launched (Error #2015: Invalid BitmapData.)."
Am I alone on this one? Anyone else have this problem? - jordon, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1This is freaking tight.
- jacobpellegren, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This one actually works ( compared to D'lite, what a crock )
- war59312, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Installing Apollo causes my PC to blue screen. Running vista 32bit. :(
- HOTM, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Nothing causes my vista to blue screen!
I wish I was on XP again :(
- HOTM, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Nothing causes my vista to blue screen!
- EnricoFermi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2d'lite is better it doesn't suck all your processing power up
- fioona, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0how can u calculate digg running average? And what does it mean?
- DreadPirate, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The one thing this needs is to be able to track stories you have commented on, so you can know if anyone has responded to your comments. Just tracking what stories you have dugg isn't enough.
- eloehfelm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Apollo is like a cross platform Visual Basic. It will have great features and functionality when it is fully released. You guys seem to be forgetting that it's still in alpha. The full release plan is supposed to have Windows, OSX, and Linux support. So what other platform do you plan on building rich apps that can be release simultaneously on all three platforms from the same source code?... and don't say Java! ;)
Great app Joe! You rock the cat box!- Fordi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1And it will still be flash level slow.
How about C++ with Qt? Just a few conditionals for file/settings locations in your code, and things work peachily. No seriously. If you don't know, you've never used, and vice versa.
By the way, what do you consider 'rich'? Functional, or pretty? Cause, looking at the API, Apollo definitely seems to concentrate on the latter without much focus on the former.
- Fordi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1And it will still be flash level slow.
