Most Unique Site Design
leoburnett.ca — On this site, you draw to where you want to navigate...if you click an icon, it zooms in closer...and everything is floating. Its difficult to describe, but it is a must see.

- thisistrinh, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34wow, sick concept! it has a really easy feel to it, would love to see a fully functional site with the same design.
- short_man, on 10/12/2007, -52/+10kinda old
- iBasden, on 10/12/2007, -43/+9Yes, very old. I saw this some time last year.
- ufia, on 10/12/2007, -11/+33Last year? That is so old! The internets wasn't even invented last year.
- HaltingPoint, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Um...this is a fully functional site. Leo Burnett is one of the bigger ad agencies out there and this is their actual website. It is well known within the industry as being one of the best agency websites out there.
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4http://www.saturday-london.com/
Saturday's site is similar, and is a bit more comfortable to navigate. Both sites have great concepts, but I retain orientation with Saturday's streamlined site. - rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20@ wingnut21
Are you kidding? That site is TERRIBLE. Mystery meat navigation at its worst. - curios, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3This has got to be one of the best presented websites i have ever seen.
I hope more websites are made like this. - garreh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11What are you people talking about?! Am I the only sane one here?! That site is totally NOT functional. I have to spend 10 minutes trying to figure out what each link takes me to.
Please god DON'T make every site like this. Don't get me wrong... its cool. But for a corporate site its a nay nay from me. - Maascamp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Very innovative design. May not be the most inuitive in terms of navigation, but great way to show off the quality work the company can generate.
- Quintus, on 10/12/2007, -5/+47Cool site. Reminds me of : http://www.dontclick.it/
- ntnwwnet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+76Indeed, it is a cool site.
BUT.
How DARE it resize my browser window. That's just... wrong. - resplence, on 10/12/2007, -11/+11Except that dontclick.it sucks.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -3/+9Yeah, screw that. I like clicking.
- ntnwwnet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+76Indeed, it is a cool site.
- Cyre, on 10/12/2007, -49/+2What's sick about it, I think it's the most innovative webpage concept that I've ever seen!!
- captinherb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38LOL *wipes tear from eye* Tell me that was sarcasm.
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17you need to read the literature on slang, grandpa
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Don't forget, it's only Americans who use the word sick in a positive context. In most other places it still means puke.
Come to think of it, why *is* that word used to describe awesome stuff? - JCDenton513, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Well according to wikipedia it's actually came from Australia:
Australian English slang: awesome, good. Popularized by Pizza (TV series). - bobbles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8fully sick bro
- Lardquake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Man... there's no reason to bury the poor guy into oblivion just for no being up wi' da kidz slang-wise.
- Shayer, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3excellent site. I can't wait for it to be implimented into mainstream sites.
- Salviati, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Very clever indeed. Did anyone else find the Easter egg video in the star? Where did that come from? (To get to it, you have to click on the star at the end of the line and then hover over it)
- SAOSiN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Nice find, thanks for sharing.
- pile0nades, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1He said "tear up a few ads on the side" lol
- resplence, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1What star at the end of which line?
*Ooh I found it*
- spanner, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29It is good, but as far as web design goes it sucks. What it gains on the novelty side it loses on the accessability side.
Still it is indeed the MOST unique site I have seen- Cyre, on 10/12/2007, -28/+3That's because Linux sucks.
- tmcc, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Cyre, you are without a doubt the stupidest p3rs0n I have ever encountered.
Please tell me you are a bot. - davidirock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1go to the bottom under "feeling lost" and you can see all the stuff just like it was a regular site.
- kingrayray, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Really cool idea, too bad flash sucks on firefox (in Linux) so it's kinda slow. :/
- CorpT, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2That was actually a lot easier to use than I thought it would be. Very nice.
- berninme, on 10/12/2007, -14/+12Incredibly unintuitive and devoid of meaningful information. Great idea, terrible result.
- dsendecki, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6If you considered that unintuitive, you must have terrible intuition...
- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Nice website. The band Muse used to have a very cool website, but they changed it for the new album. Basically it was like a mini 2 colour operating system, windows could be moved, resized and operated much like in Windows.
- kevinski, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Wow. Incredible.
- iStunT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7most unique site ive ever seen, and is pretty cool also. But as far as web design, it isnt really easy to use and is confusing. I would hate for it to get out into mainstream sites. Although i enjoyed gonig there props to the designer, its a really cool site, just confusing.. still gonna digg it
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree with you. It works more like a proof of concept than anything else. An artist might want something like that as a portfolio showcase.
I think that although I thought it was easy to use, that was only because I was expecting to have to do something weird and I was prepared to learn how to use the site. You can't just throw an unassuming user onto a site like that and expect them to use it like a normal web site. If somebody went there looking for information about the company they'd first have to figure out how to use the site. The very first rule of good web design is to design something people can use without thinking, which while it restricts the types of designs you can do, it also solves the actual business case scenario that has you designing a web site in the first place. - Jadael, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's not meant to introduce the average person to this company.
This is the website of an advertising company that does work for big name businesses. (Visa, Kellog's, Samsung, that sort of place.) They'll typically already know of them; the site is just them showing off. - Lardquake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, it's not really meant for the kind of people who would be confused by it, is it? I don't think it was designed with Digg in mind.
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree with you. It works more like a proof of concept than anything else. An artist might want something like that as a portfolio showcase.
- elektricki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Kind of gets annoying after a while.
- valis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25I don't like mystery navigation sites. They are time consuming and pretentious in my opinion.
- scuzzman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Using Opera 9, on Kubuntu 6.06, the controls are bass ackwards. Anyone else seeing this?
- santineh, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1nice site, especially to do in drugs. ja.
flash is like 'look what can i do' and nothing else, such to be at digg front page...
it can be very usefull for certains implementations, but overall a waste of time.- santineh, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0i reply to me
no one, no damn one navigate a entirely flash site more than 5 minutes.
- santineh, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0i reply to me
- novaHands, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5thats just annoying
- xxrazor, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3it kinda has an interface that reminds me of OS X's dock
slick......smooth........the works - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Burnett
For those who have no idea who Leo Burnett was. - knubie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11This is a good example of bad user interface design. The user has to guess what to do. These types of sites are not accessible to everyone, such as those who use screen readers. I designed sights with 'mystery navigation' but quickly pulled out of it because of the above reasons.
- sublimethinker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Are you sure you didn't design SITES?
- drzeus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Flash has screen reader support. Did you test it with a screen reader? The visual appearance of the site does not indicate it's support of these technologies.
- iQuinn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Terrible UI, but fun nonetheless. As knubie suggests, this site would never work for any practical purpose.
- tw0bit, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1neato
- xeno439, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yes, it is both sick as far as what you can do, but its pretty bad in design. By the way, anyone know how to save something that a user draws in Flash on a website?
- RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Unique" usually correlates to "pretty but bad" as far as interfaces are concerned. Its cool, it's unique, but its not something I'd like to see everywhere, and for good reason.
- frickindeal, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@xeno439
Um, PrintScrn? - WorldGroove, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@frickindeal
No, he means like a variable/structure in programming code to be re-loaded later. Like, what if you could save your Line-Rider tracks and reload/edit them.
And this is the answer...
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashcom/articles/whiteboard_3.html
The first 2 pages just talks about the whiteboards. Starting from Page-3, they talk about moving the drawing into a SharedObject and sending it over the internet. Now, once your server has it, you could store it in a database(column type BLOBS) or somehow raw-write it to a file with perl. http://www.informit.com/articles/article.asp?p=29311&seqNum=4&rl=1
Yeah, something like that... it's possible. - notastat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I agree completely. It is a 'sick' design as far as flash and originality of the web design are concerned but in regards to usability and ease of use are concerned it doesn't do so well.

- ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14i cant stand sites that resize my browser.
- wstrucke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, f-ing bane of the internet
- marioluigi123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly...
- zzzzbest, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Stupid, useless, design. Any site that resizes your browser is a piece of *****. Thanks for the spam you *****.
- sovereign3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Pretty nifty website. The only thing I'd want to change is being able to disable the writing or maybe erase some of the pencil marks. It can get a little cluttered if you browse many pages of the website.
BTW, Who is Leo Burnett?- jbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2leo burnett (the man) founded the advertising agency back in the 1930s. there is a history section of that site if you were able to find it.
i have a few close friends who work for this company or one of it's sister companies (it's now owned by a holding company based in France - www.publicisgroupe.com - english version at the bottom). pretty cool stuff, like lounges with nintendos and fridges full of beer, all products of their clients. - falcyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Um, you can get rid of the pencil by clicking on the BIG BLACK PENCIL in the bottom right hand on the screen :
- jordan314, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3They're kind of cool and kind of evil.
Remember the Marlboro man? How about "I'm loving it?" Or "an army of one"?
It's a very creative ad agency whose big clients include marlboro, mcDonalds, and the army. They were protested in Chicago for having a $150m contract with the army.
They influence our culture and hire talented people, but they also hire market researchers and scientists to figure out how to manipulate us. They're infamous for subliminal advertising. They're great at finding trends and co-opting them. Take video games--remember that Army video game, free, except that the whole point is to recruit you? They have their target recruits pinpointed (young males) and even they get your email address when you download the game.
Web 2.0 and digg are a cool trend too, right? So now they've figured out what's cool on the net and are linked from the front page of one of the most popular, hippest sites on the forefront of web 2.0 out there.
Yeah, it's a cool site, but then you start thinking, it's cool to get fat off of mcdonald's, and it's cool to go fight in Iraq because it will be like a video game, and it's cool to kill ourselves with cigarrettes.
Sorry for the rant, but I hate witnessing another passion of mine get co-opted by big business. I'm burying this story as lame and suggest others do the same because the company's not just cool. They're evil.
- jbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2leo burnett (the man) founded the advertising agency back in the 1930s. there is a history section of that site if you were able to find it.
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Use http://leoburnett.ca.nyud.net:8080/ or http://leoburnett.ca.nyud.net:8090/ to access it. DugMirror didn't seem to load Flash for me. :(
- janmc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's cool, but kind of annoying after 30 seconds. At least they have that 'navigation for linear thinkers' thing at the bottom.
- atlacatl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't know. It's cool and all, but it becomes useless after a while. Imagine doing your banking stuff in a site with a similar interface.
Again, it's very cool, but... - brianbennett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The concept is interesting but this borders on 'mystery meat' navigation... not a good thing.
- cjswerve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Very cool site. Navigation wise it is really easy. I would hire this developer for a cool site like that.
- gerkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would more say it's interesting, but I'm glad I don't rely on it as my web presence, it's not very usable. Kinda like a business card that you have to fold into Origami to find out what it says.
- jiggidy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://www.duggmirror.com
- InfoFreedom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0At first i thought it was stupid mostly becaulse of the lame tabs to look at but it's
kind of fun and nice one click interface. But it might be more interesting if they made
a website with different sections not just different ads.and add more then just video clips
and pics.
I would like a search engine wouldent know how they could but maybe type in a search
and get branches to pics of the different sites and click on them to enlarge to see if its
what your looking for and if it is the site your looking for click again to open it.
- mmpkidz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Better title: Uniquely Annoying Site Design
- geezusfreeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Very difficult to navigate. I don't care how cool it looks; if it takes more than like five or ten seconds to figure out, many people will turn away. If you feel like you have to include instructions on how to navigate it, there is something wrong.
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And then I get to wonder what I'm supposed to do when I want to bookmark a section of this site or tell someone to check out some information on it... "I can't give you a URL but if you follow these 5 steps... Uh, draw your way to the LeoShe logo (which you might have a hard time finding) then click playing house and then click one of those videos and then..."
- Jadael, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I love how everyone immediately decides this guy wants the entire web to work like this.
- kachink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Exactly. It's supposed to be different. The purpose of the site is to show off how creative the agency is. It serves that purpose quite well.
- tankko, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Leave it to an ad agency to ***** up a website. Man, if I'm surfing around for info on a company or product and I hit some lame-ass flash site like this, I'm gone. All this crap is done my a bunch of suits that don't ever use the web.
You can marvel at the tech behind it, but please don't encourage them. - EmberX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That site has made it's way around the design community for a bit.....I think it made it as a SOTD on http://www.thefwa.com but it's always a nice view. Thanks for reminding me of this.
- WolfProtagonist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think its great, I don't know why everyone has to be so negagive all of the time.
Obviously, this wouldn't work for a site that only wants to serve up information, but if the focus is something different (fun, entertainment) it could be useful. - darkmotion, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Lol that's a real old site. It is unique, but very hard to make practical use of such an odd type of navigation.
- evilrobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Abso-frigging-loutley awful.....
annoying "sound effects", re sized window, completely frustrating "chase the icon around... nope... you missed it... ooh!! close, try again" navigation.
Its "pretty", but pretty useless. I know that this is a very large and well established firm, but if i had never heard of them and was referred to them by this website alone I would NOT contract them. The site wreaks of pretentiousness. - ogre2112, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2YUCK.
My eyes hurt and I suddenly want to hit something. - rwmacdonald, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Moosehead is great beer.
- scifipirate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1comment
- ernasty10050, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't understand...it replaces your cursor with a pencil and the icons get bigger when you mouse over them. it's not THAT cool. (unless i am missing something, and if i am please tell me so i can be wowed)
- eugenef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a reason for it being unique and really cool. Leo Burnett is one of the largest advertising agencies in the country, located in Chicago, IL. This site has been around for a while...
- docillenstein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There's a reason they're pulling in huge clients.
- rmclaughlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this won a webby last year
- willywong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Jef Raskin was working on a user interface like this before he died. I remember they had a flash implentation as a proof of concept however it was very slow. This one works quite fast.
