The New Ask.com Home Page
ask.com — Jeeves is gone, the design has changed a bit, and there's a neat new side bar. Try it out, it's pretty cool. Ask.com has really improved..
- 917 diggs
- digg it
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can move the order of the links around by dragging them, it's pretty cool. And if you press the link it changes the page without reloading.
- TuxFan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Bye, Jeeves. You will be missed yet remembered in geekdom. Jeeves is dead! Long live Jeeves!
- ddrirc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0They lose my digg for no page background color. D:
- mightymouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm with the ddrirc.
Also, it looks too plain and red and white. They might as well put a canadian flag on there (woo go canada).
However, it looks clean and runs fast. Basically another evil google twin. - UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0please no one say "it's web 2.0 ish".
please! - manoftheisland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i like it... sorta following the google simplicity idea. good change though
- Bluntzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just another "were losing users so lets try to re-vamp the site" last ditch effort
- stan72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks more web 1.0 ish to me.
- DASH, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Where's Jeeves?
After ten years of dutifully helping kids answer questions for their homework, learn more about their world, or to just be able help them answer the eternal "Why?" Jeeves decided his work was done.
Why? Kids are smart, and they catch on fast -- especially about how to use technology. The need for an "at-your-service" butler wasn't as important as kids came to the site to do more than just ask questions. They wanted a search engine that would allow them to to search and experience as much of the Web as possible. It's their learning and entertainment hub!
So, Ask for Kids focused on modernizing its search engine technology, and giving kids tools that would make their searches experience better and more satisfying. Today, our mission is to help kids find what they need through an exciting, ever-changing web. No matter what a kid's imagination can dream up, Ask for Kids is committed to meeting their challenge, and making it the best search engine for them.
Here's to Ask for Kids - the most demanding, inquisitive searchers of all. - CompACE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's web 2.0 ish - there - now you're pissed off
- Thrashtastic27, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! JEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVESSSS!!!!
- _skin_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wheres Jeeves?
- arewhyfour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks so hollow and heartless without Jeeves
- imdwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hearing that Jeeves is gone actually makes me feel a bit sad. He's been there FOREVER.
Not quite having a piece of my childhood decimated in front of my eyes, but it's not that far away from it... - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It looks like they're trying to imitate Google Personalized Home Page, and it seems like it's OK, but i'll just stick to using the google search in Firefox
- CaughtThinking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Jeeves.... How could they Jeeves, how could they.
I wish they had gotten rid of that ugly curve on the left instead! - Zodzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Obviously there's a problem with this search engine if it can't find Digg. Also, even though I never sucked on his proverbial teat, I'll miss Jeeves and his never ending fountain of knowledge.
Anyways I'll Digg this one, even if the link can't find Digg. - asdren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1best thing they've got is bloglines
- ThePags, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Honestly who uses ask jeeves anyway?
- KayMan2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't worrgy, Jeeves is in software mascot heaven along with the Pets.com sock puppet and Clippy.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh god, i was hoping the place was burned off the internet by now. i could've assumed so until i was forced to visit this Search Engine of Hell by clicking the link.
wow.. they added a sidebar, now its the shiznit! no. goto a9.com if you want sidebars. - FlyingAvatar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If by "really improved", you mean "now looks exactly like Google", I completely agree.
- carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so, umm, who actually uses/used this site anyway?
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh, that guy was right about not being able to find digg with ask.com
search for digg, digg.com is nowhere to be found. i checked the first 5 pages of results, and no digg.com. maybe its buried in the 100th page. - guitarromantic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0When I first came to the internet in 1998, my school was using Ask Jeeves so I grew up using it till I discovered Google in 2000. I'll miss the butler, he gave them the character that (until now) distinguished them from other search engines.
- silver2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not that gread. I asked "Where did jeeves go?" and it couldn't come up with an answer.
- rekrapt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Screw Jeeves... Where's Waldo??
- marc-ee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This sucks, anytime there is something cool in Branding like good ol' Jeeves these guys take it away.
- DafyddLlyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bye bye Jeeves :(
- dgrinb01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0lame
- recursive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0> If by "really improved", you mean "now looks exactly like Google", I completely agree.
That is an improvement. - Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Nooo JEEEVES. COME BACK
Replaced by a illegal mexican alien butler - cable22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ask.com stinks. I asked, "what is the second amendment?" and behold, it gave me the first link to wikipedia. And the second search result was some conspiracy junk. Wow ask.com, what would I have done without you. :-P
- sohlemac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's Bertie going to do without Jeeves? That guy can hardly tie his shoes himself, let alone search the web!
- chachi_arcola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Goony Goo(gle) Hoo!
- sohlemac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BTW, look up Woodehouse in wikipedia if you're confused by what I said above.
- sohlemac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0errr... Wodehouse.
- vietual, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0definitely not Unicode-savvy
- Filoviridae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lame...I can't believe they ditched Jeeves. Now I'm even less likely to use the site.
- shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF? Worthless without Jeeves.
- Vicious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Check this out, in the submit feedback/ask questions part of the site.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v89/brandonone/Jeeves.gif - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0...Blocked by websense? What gives?
- amygdela, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't care w00t ne1 says about it. I dugg it...
- h2d2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too much white space... in their code.
- supert0ad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who cares, nobody uses ask jeeves search. but for the love of god, they need to de-uglify bloglines
- Vineman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That sucks, I remember in elementary school when Ask Jeeves was starting to gain hold (where I was at least).
- dickyducky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0pre web 1.0 technology preview 2?
- KYDS3K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hired Jeeves the other day, I found him on the side of the road by Home Depot with the other workers. He makes a mean omelette, and my shoes have never been shinier! Now let's see how he handles my secret superhero lair . . .
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The website looks worse now IMO :(
Why did they get rid of Jeeves? They put a lot into marketing "him" and now they're basically throwing all that away. - aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SERIOUSLY, who the hell uses this crap? altavista, lycos and other seraches too. i thought EVERYONE uses google? this is just plain wierd.
