The World's Ugliest Cars [PICTURES]
images.businessweek.com — I kinda like the 'Ford Edsel' I actually wish I had one. For the rest of the pack, well I think they are deserving.

- digg it
- ToxicGas, on 08/11/2008, -17/+5my wife's grandpa has an Edsel that he's willing to let go .. not sure about the specifics at the moment though
- daedalus779, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6worst sales hype ever.
- arcooke, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1I was just coming in here to comment on the Edsel.. The headlights are a little funky and it weighs almost as much as Rosie O'D, but it's actually pretty nice, looks-wise. But yeah, don't ever try to sell a car in the digg comments section again unless you want to see a record number of negative diggs.
- jrbrewin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2these all look like american cars. is that because american cars are that much more uglier than the rest, or purely because this isn't actually the worlds ugliest cars, but "Revenge of the Nerd Cars- The 1970s were infamous for disco, Watergate, and some of the ugliest cars ever. But now Pacers and Pintos are becoming collectors' items" @ http://www.businessweek.com/autos/content/aug2007/bw20070823_780539.htm
- mgkwho, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7They forgot about the PT Cruiser, the Honda Element, the Scion XB, the Porsche Cayenne S, and the Ford Edge.
-=|Mgkwho- ryantacquard, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0uhm, those aren't ugly.
- Skiwop4, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yea cause you really want a car that looks like a toaster
- bobcatred, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5The scion is hideous
- ryantacquard, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0uhm, those aren't ugly.
- michigander, on 10/10/2007, -10/+3I guess my car ain't that bad
- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -15/+142I really don't think any of them are that ugly, except the Pacer.
I think the Gremlin and the Chevy Vega look cool.- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -6/+62Ok, I take it back, the Aztek is pretty bad.
http://www.analogstereo.com/images/om/pontiac_aztek.jpg - jstohler, on 10/10/2007, -3/+48That ***** Aztek was like a punishment for the person who won Survivor a few years back.
- HarryBalszak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0That was Colby in season 2 (Australia) and he didn't win, he was second. The car reward challenge winner has never gone on to win 'sole survivor.'
- Auntmac, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Actually in season 1 the grand prize was 1 million dollars AND a Pontiac Aztec, which was won by Richard Hatch. God, I'm ashamed to know that...
- HarryBalszak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0That was Colby in season 2 (Australia) and he didn't win, he was second. The car reward challenge winner has never gone on to win 'sole survivor.'
- orxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9The Gremlin is cool. It looks like a lot of the hot hatches that are popular now.
- carpespasm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2what does that tell you about car design now?
- masamunecyrus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15I've always hated the Ford Taurus, myself.

For more cars (NOT DIGGS) its old, but entertaining! - Cam_86, on 10/10/2007, -6/+13I may be the only person in the world, who actually likes the style of the Aztek. To be fair though, it was one of the first cross-over vehicles, so its not like there was a set standard for style. Nice to see Pontiac took a risk and made a (relatively) good vehicle in the process.
- rhinopig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I was going to say the same thing. I guess there are 2 of us.
Also, to show how bad my taste is, the gremlin and vega both don't look to bad. I don't like the curves on the gremlin but the basic form isn't to bad.
EDIT: actually, I agree with the original poster. most of them are ok, if bizarre, except the pinto and yugo. - MedHead, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1The Auto Show Aztek was ugly, but tolerable. That's the only compliment I'll give to the Aztek, because the released model was a disaster.
- rhinopig, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I was going to say the same thing. I guess there are 2 of us.
- livestradamus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13The Chevy Vega definetly looks good to me. And the Ford Edsel looks like the ultimate pimp mobile
- smpdigital, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3The Aztek has to be the ugliest. I'm still surprised that the Jeep Compass wasn't on the list.
- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Did anybody else notice how the descriptions about the cars were mostly about how bad they were in ways other than being ugly? Unsafe, unreliable, not enough interior space, inefficient, etc. Oh, and it says "The WORLD'S Ugliest Cars" but they are all US-market cars. There's some damned ugly cars in other countries.
Also, when I saw the thumbnail of the Yugo I thought it was an Isuzu Rodeo. - UnstableMind, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6The Vega does NOT need to be in that list. That being said, I'm glad the Aztec is, I don't know how anyone can feel good about themselves behind the wheel of that, let alone the fact that some people actually paid money for it.
- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -6/+62Ok, I take it back, the Aztek is pretty bad.
- thinkingserious, on 10/10/2007, -5/+49What about the Ford Fiesta:

Party over here!- andrew522, on 10/10/2007, -1/+36hehe the person who tried to blur the license plate failed completely.

- Fungii, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14It's so ugly, even its windshield wipers don't want to touch it!
- tizz66, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah but look where the Fiesta has got to now. The new one is s-e-x-y.
- cruzlee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Strange that on a list with the world's ugliest cars there are only USA rides.
When we really take the world as our scope there are some fine additions to this list on which the one mentioned by gadgetuk easily comes in first. I can only shudder when I think of the first japanese cars (back in the days we were all making fun of them) and even now, the new chinese ones. Ai ai ai....
http://cache.consumerist.com/consumer/images/geely.jpg - digginestdog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Hola, amigos. I know it's been a long time since I rapped at ya...

http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/100-greatest/03-large/40-fiat-multipla.jpg
- Alconis, on 10/10/2007, -23/+31I nominate the Toyota FJ Cruiser for this list.
- fnaqzna, on 10/10/2007, -8/+15It looks better than a gawdamned Escalade.
- Neodeusx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Are you insane?
- Ocelot13, on 10/10/2007, -7/+11thr fj crusier? youve obviously never been in one to see how they actually are. my brother has one...and its nice.
- KyjL, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Speaking of which, I wonder how many people drive the thing OFF THE ROAD? Do any FJ Cruiser owners know that the thing was built from the ground up for OFF ROAD CAPABILITY?
I see numerous FJs on highways and driving through suburbs, toting mommy, daddy and kid(s) to and from the grocery store. If they wanted to do that, why didn't they just get a (much more practical) RAV4? It's the same class [Low-tier: FJ/RAV4; Mid-tier: 4Runner/Highlander; High-Tier: Land Cruiser/Sequioa] and it doesn't need PREMIUM GASOLINE to fuel it up.
I swear the people who drive those things are as retarded as those who drive Escalades and Excursions/Expeditions. They're not excluded from the retard boat just because they aren't driving a hulking behemoth of a vehicle. I wouldn't mind an FJ myself, but I'd never use the thing for its intended purpose and the gas cost would burn an already smoking hole in my wallet.- fnaqzna, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You sound bitter. Personally, I was disappointed with the FJ Cruiser. I had hoped that Toyota would design an offroad vehicle to challenge Jeep, something with a solid front axle. Instead, they went after the Nissan Xterra.
FWIW, I own an Xterra and it's offroad all the time.
- fnaqzna, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You sound bitter. Personally, I was disappointed with the FJ Cruiser. I had hoped that Toyota would design an offroad vehicle to challenge Jeep, something with a solid front axle. Instead, they went after the Nissan Xterra.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/10/2007, -7/+8Alconis you wont get dugg up cause this is digg and no matter how much better a American car is it's always "ugly", "cheap" and gets less fuel economy "
//GM trucks get better gas mileage than Toyota thats a Fact- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Oddly enough, you're right. I've never even thought about it, but my dad's lighter, smaller-engined 2002 Toyota Tundra is less efficient than my 2002 GMC Sierra.
- alf86, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I'd like to throw in the Scion xB and Honda Element. Those are the kinds of cars children draw.
- fnaqzna, on 10/10/2007, -8/+15It looks better than a gawdamned Escalade.
- jstohler, on 10/10/2007, -6/+72Anyone notice that only one of those cars was made by a non-U.S. company?
- solidsnake1298, on 10/10/2007, -7/+8Also notice that a good chunk of the cars came from those good old days called the 80's? When Reagonomics was the rule of the land and good fashion sense was thrown out the window.
- theblooms, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7No. I DIDN'T notice that. If anything, I noticed the most of the came from the '70s. Gremlin, Vega (which I personally like!), Pinto, Pacer, Chevette. Fact is, the ONLY car from the '80s was the Yugo, a horrible import from Communist Yugoslavia.
- 4UIDigg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1except the yugo
- oojamaflip2006, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I noticed this and assumed it must be because the survey was done by an American classic motorcar insurance company. A friend of mine drove me back from Brighton (UK) in a Yugo and the wing mirror fell off when we went over a slight bump in the road.
- annonimality, on 10/10/2007, -6/+5I think it's actually a good thing that most of the cars are American. It shows the extent of American creativity, sometimes we get it right (Corvette, Impala, Camero, Viper, etc...), and sometimes we get it horribly wrong. But we always try something new and different.
- mentalsticks, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8wow, that's probably the dumbest comment imaginable.
The fact that the list consists almost exclusively of American cars doesn't show the extent of American creativity, it shows the extent of American self-centeredness. The guy or gal who made the list has obviously hardly looked over the US's borders (otherwise he'd surely have included the Fiat Multipla, or the Dolphin from India). What makes you think that a list like this would be anything near accurate? And you, incredibly, use it as an argument for the case of... 'American creativity'!
Sorry if I'm rude. You deserve it.
- mentalsticks, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8wow, that's probably the dumbest comment imaginable.
- diggjones, on 10/10/2007, -6/+0I've always felt that Americans can't design cars worth crap!
- theblooms, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Wrong. IMHO, some of the BEST looking cars ever to see a road were American. Short list:
85-87 Buick Grand National, 78-82 Chevy Malibu Coupe, 79-93 Mustang, 67-69 Camaro, 55-57 Chevy, any Duesenberg, 1950 Mercury, 32 Ford, 68 Lincoln Continental, 68 Cadillac, 2008 Dodge Challenger, and any Corvette!- sannm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Ford gt-40

- andrew522, on 10/10/2007, -25/+8I know the pontiac aztec is ugly, but it honestly isn't THAT bad. the design was just too ahead of its time.
- youareretarded, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8No it is ugly! It looks like the designers thought to themselves, "What kind of vehicle could we build if we try to use as much plastic as possible?"
There are a lot more uglier cars than the ones feature though.
The Chevy HHR comes to mind as well as the original tiburon.
I think the mazda rx8 (original) is pretty ugly as well.
What about the Citroën Ami 6?- bacon_skoda, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Original? how many rx8s are there?
- IceZZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Um, no, the Ass-tek is FUGLY. You must be an owner!
- bajesus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I own one and I think they look like *****. The only reason I bought it was that it had 7000 miles and cost $13000.
- andrew522, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2btw i drive a mitsubishi galant. no I don't have an aztec.
- Celeron, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1What coincidence, I work at a Pontiac GMC dealership, and I was talking to a co-worker the other day about how ***** ugly this thing was. Who in their right mind who purchase such a monstrocity? I'm thinking about printing out this page and putting it in all the Aztec cars to deter them from being bought.
- theholycow, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Not everybody buys for looks. The Aztek was a crossover before there were many (any?) other crossovers.

- mentalsticks, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Yes, in the way that Barbra Streisand was 'ahead of her time'.
- youareretarded, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8No it is ugly! It looks like the designers thought to themselves, "What kind of vehicle could we build if we try to use as much plastic as possible?"
- skinrock, on 10/10/2007, -1/+90I love how they chose to use a lot of comments that weren't even related to the visual appeal of the cars. Most were about reliability, poor performance and poor ride quality.
- firebhaal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8This list... it sucks
- Lixie, on 10/10/2007, -14/+10Where's the Dodge Dart?
- zeeta6, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1In your garage
- flaterates, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Dart was a muscle car. Even with a small V8 they were very, very fast. Find one and try it out. The power will scare you.
- KMye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Holy *****, that Blue Planet Run banner is one of the most annoying things I've come across lately.
- Nudar, on 10/10/2007, -5/+39These cars may have been hunks of junk but some of them look pretty stylish if you ask me. The Vega, Corsair and Edsel are downright awesome looking.
- corvairkid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I like the original Vega's because they sort of look like a downsized early '70's Camaro. I'm not a fan of the early Corvair's (1960-64) because IMHO the front end is too boxy but the '65-'69's are eye candy.
Unlike the comments, the NHTSA proved in a 1971 test that Corvair's are actually safer to drive than the VW Beetle and Microbus. Even Nader knew it but he went after GM because at the time, they were a bigger company with more money and US marketshare than VW. Incidentally, even Porsche used the swing axle rear end in their cars.

- BirdCatcher, on 10/10/2007, -21/+2I don't really get it... how can an inanimate object be ugly?
- ctrlfreak13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11So DUMB
ugly, adj.: Offensive or repulsive to the eye; unpleasing in appearance; of disagreeable or unsightly aspect
- Oxford English Dictionary.
Note the absence of 'An animate object that is' at the beginning of the definition.... - greatcaffeine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Are you stupid?
- IceZZ, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The same way inanimate paintings are called beautiful. How can a human like you be called intelligent?
- ctrlfreak13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11So DUMB
- FLaw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15vega + v8 = FAST
- Trublmakr, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I think the Vega actually looked pretty cool. Shouldn't be on the ugly list - even if it was a p.o.s
- awasson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I had one with a 4 bolt main 350 + Turbo 350 automatic... Other than launching the rear end every now and then it was highly dependable and super fast. Easy to work on too! I think 8 bolts held on the subframe and I could have rebuilt the engine without even pulling it out.
Ohhhh except for the rust :-( - Abomonog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yup, knew someone who threw a Vette engine in a Vega wagon. Vega was then easily racing Vettes, and beating the 80's models.
- homerj14, on 10/10/2007, -4/+23???
the Edesl is so nice - nublet, on 10/10/2007, -23/+8they forgot the 2005 and up ford mustang.
- UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -5/+15Umm... no.
- sannm, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I'm not a big mustang guy but, I have yet to find one person who thinks the 2005 and up models look worse than the previous 20 years of mustangs, seriously have you seen some of the boxy 80s models. Ford finally got the mustang right since the sixties and your dumb ass calls it ugly.
- corvairkid, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0sannm is right. The styling may be a throwback to the '60's but at least when you see one from four blocks away, you won't mistake it for anything else on the road.
- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -13/+29No Prius?
- youareretarded, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2I almost forgot about the prius! Yeah thats an ugly car too.
- SPThom, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Early Priuses (Prii?) were kinda hideous, but I tend to like most of the ones I see on the road nowadays.
- biotch, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7meh ... I like how the Prius looks
- homerj1965, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I love my ugly Prius.
- aahpandasrun, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11These cars aren't that bad looking, except for the gremlin. They may be crappy cars, but they're not that ugly.
- psykiv, on 10/10/2007, -6/+31I think the Edsel is pretty nice actually.
Also, Pontiac Aztek
"There must have been a front-end design team and a rear-end design team. And the two teams NEVER spoke to each other!"
Thats pure gold right there.- dragoneye, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8also the front end design team did the rear end and visa versa.
- laurarena, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yeah, nice except for the shoddy interior design. you would not want an edsel at the time the edsel was out.
- Genjeta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I agree, also the Pontiac Aztek looks really nice from my perspective, I don't know why people are bashing it.
- tothemax64, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well because its the ugliest car on the road, they make the scion look nice, Ive driven an Aztek there ugly inside and out.
- Genjeta, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1*Ignore repost*
- CptBuck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I don't actually think they're supposed to be ugly, just "poorly designed" hence that nice looking corvair is there because it blew up when you got rear ended
- Langford, on 10/10/2007, -15/+16Whole list is BS. I doubt he ever touched any of these cars. He's just going off old propaganda, much of which is false.
- santaliqueur, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Propaganda? you need to learn what that word means.
- Powerdrift, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2They're the worlds ugliest car, you only need to look at them...
- MagicCake, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I don't think these look that bad. In fact, a lot of them remind me of the small cars commonly driven in eastern Europe, so they don't seem that out of place to me.
- smurf22, on 10/10/2007, -14/+1*giggle*

- gfnw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And by 4chan you mean Gaia of course. I don't think I've ever seen the world "giggle" used on chon, unless it's something like "she won't be giggling when I stick my ***** in her ass".
- holygram, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Woops! You must've misread the sign on the internet highway!
- jacquesm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+139the ugliest car in the world is the fiat 'multipla', also known as the fat rolls...
don't believe me ? check it out : http://secondhandcar.com/nl/cars/Netherlands%20-%20Nederland/Fiat/Multipla/Geel%20Metallic/255484/index.html
better have a barf bag handy :) Italian design usually is pretty good but the guy that made this abnomination should never be allowed near a drawing board again...
the new version has a 'facelift' which is a little better but still- Thesuit22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21OMG its disgusting.
- jacquesm, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0yes, no kidding. It is evident why they never exported it to the USA, the style police would shoot on sight !
- evozero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5i saw a few of those while in Italy. i had no idea what they were called, but deserves to be on *any* ugliest cars list.
- RockinRoel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I can't believe some people actually drove that car. I mean, it's spacious and all (6 seats) for its size but it's just so ugly!
- avalonknight, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Looked like someone "double stamped" it.
- qwikmr2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I wouldn't drive that to a Ron Jeremy look-a-like contest.. damn that's ugly
- mentalsticks, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The good, nay, great thing about the multipla is when it's used as a taxi. Very roomy, high seating.. Taxis here are generally Mercedes, but one starts seeing more and more other cars like the Toyota Avensis, this Multipla for cheaper rides, and others. it's a good development. Mercedes is not a good taxi.
Oh yes, here's another angle on the Multipla so you can get a good view of the ugly:

THIS IS MULTIPLA!!!!
- tizz66, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Want to know what's worse? It won car of the year, the year it came out. Seriously. No no, I'm not joking - it really did.

- IceZZ, on 10/10/2007, -14/+18You can finally digg me up! This article is totally stupid because the author was unable to focus on their own title... the title is "Ugliest cars" and then they have a few OK looking cars with an extensive description of mechanical and quality issues. What does mechanical issues have to do with UGLY? This is an article on Looks, not quality! If you want a quality survey, then call JD Powers FFS! You want ugly? Here is a modern list (without any regard to quality):
1) Honda Element
2) Scion TC Box-van thing
3) Pontiac Aztek (they got one right)
4) Any 4-door Dodge or Chrysler- MikeMayer, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4:( I love my xB. (1st and 2nd gen).
Its... an aquired taste.- IceZZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Fair enough, acquired taste it is. But when people see it, they cringe. :( Rest assured, the Honda Element is far worse.
- MikeMayer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I agree. The newer xB (2008) is a bit easier for more people to swallow. Its... like a PT cruiser and the older xB had a bastard american child. Or HHR... up to you.
- IceZZ, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Fair enough, acquired taste it is. But when people see it, they cringe. :( Rest assured, the Honda Element is far worse.
- member57, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Dodge trucks with their stupid open mouth grill.

- gameforge, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4"4) Any 4-door Dodge or Chrysler"
Why all of them? Why didn't you just say the PT Cruiser? While I don't necessarily think they're ugly, they're different enough to justify being on somebody's list somewhere... there's some good looking Chrysler/Dodge sedans out there.
I think the Toyota Echo is one of the ugliest cars, particularly on the inside. I'm also surprised nobody's said anything (yet) about the '99 - '05 Grand Am SE's, with the plastic body ribs - I personally love Grand Ams, but I remember when that style first came out there was lots of jokes about them ("the car didn't fall out of the ugly tree, it drove into it and went straight up", etc.)- jimbob3636, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I think he was talking about how the Dodge Charger, Magnum and the Chrysler 300 all have the same frame and similar styles.
- Jibberwalk, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The new Dodge Charger isn't bad: http://tinyurl.com/28mnbk
- jimbob3636, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0making a 4 door sports is actually that bad. They really should have used a unique frame and not copied the one from their station wagon.
- Langford, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4What it really is, is a list of all the cars that he could dig old dirt up on really quick on google, so he could churn out something and leave work for the day.
- Ademan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm with you up until 4. The new chargers are awesome.
- aquamato, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1the TC is sweeeet, but u r talkin about the XB. and i think that's cool too. but not all would agree
- AlexanderZero, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Don't forget the Pontiac Grand Am.
- MikeMayer, on 10/10/2007, -8/+4:( I love my xB. (1st and 2nd gen).

- member57, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2ford Tempo, Fiesta, hell any vehicle made by ford.
- cmpshotty, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Yeah, like those ugly Mustangs!!
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually, Mustangs were never built by Ford.
Every single Mustang has been designed and produced by the Mustang Motor Company since its foundation in 1968 by James Mustang, a car enthusiast who created the first prototype in his garage, sculpted in a solid block of oak wood. To make a long story short, by the end of 1969, the MMC was producing a a thousand Mustang a week, and growing exponentially.
In 1972, Ford then known for their extremely ugly cars, were looking for a way to improve their image. They approached James Mustang, hoping to buy his company. James refused, but Ford was insistent, and the deal that came out of it is that Ford would pay the MMC 1 million dollars a month for him to add the word "Ford" in front of the Mustang brand name. James insisted in the contract that the MMC and Ford engineers and designers would never communicate by any means, since he was afraid that the bad designers at Ford would contaminate his company.
And it's still true today, the only link between Ford and Mustang is the name, the two companies are completely separate.
You can check more details about this fabulous story on Wikipedia, though be warned that the Ford company is known to often edit this page and remove any trace of this story.
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually, Mustangs were never built by Ford.

- philba, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I dunno, the gremlin is way up there. In fact, anything made by AMC qualifies for the finals (oh, so that's a Matador!). The Citroen C2V is pretty ugly. But I think the trophy belongs to the honda element. coyote ugly.
- jacquesm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0there are three 'cult' cars in europe, in order of appearance on the market: vw bug ('46), citroen 2cv('48) and the 'mini' ('59). Each of these were made well into the millions and are still popular today. The 2cv is affectionally called the 'ugly duckling' because it really is quite a neat design. But it takes some getting used to.
- bigbadgreen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I have to disagree with "In fact, anything made by AMC qualifies for the finals" they did make some nice looking and fast cars. Look into the javelin or amx, the amx/3 which was one step away from production having 8 working models built, the rebel, the rambler american isn't bad. That's also a matador wagon, almost any wagon from the 70's is crappy looking. the matador coupe isn't so bad either.
- mphree, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Pontiac Aztek is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Gah.
What do you guys think is the best looking car out there?
Even though it would break down within 15 miles, Alfa Romeo Brera for me.- workfaster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Just fyi, the correct pronunciation of the Aztek is "ASS-Tek".
- Gadren, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I actually found that Gremlin interesting... at least it's better than all the bland cookie-cutter cars out nowadays.
- flaterates, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I know a guy who works with LAPD and other law enforcement here in So Cal who collects Gremlins. It's certainly made Wayne famous. Those things are really hard to come by. With a V8 they are wickedly quick.
- dzorz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11OK, this list is focused too much on american cars. Couple of "Euros" missing:
First of all, where is Renault Thalia (Renault Clio converted to sedane): http://oko.fade.pl/images/7389Thalia1.jpg
Where is Fiat Multipla, ugliest car in a couple of decades: http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/100-greatest/03-large/40-fiat-multipla.jpg
And last, but not least :-) I think they picked Yugo just because it was voted to be the worst car in 20th century on a couple of occasions. For the record, I still drive Yugo (I bought it two months ago for 250€).- mateo60, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9That Fiat is without a doubt, the ugliest car I've ever seen.
The Renault Thalia isn't all that bad. It really looks like a knockoff of a 90's model VW Jetta.- alf86, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Which Fiat? The Fiat company makes/ has made a lot of cars. Hell, they even own Ferrari.
- mateo60, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The Fiat mentioned in the comment that I replied to.
- alf86, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Which Fiat? The Fiat company makes/ has made a lot of cars. Hell, they even own Ferrari.
- poesybeater, on 10/10/2007, -7/+0I think the reason it's so American focused is because American companies made some of the ugliest (and *****) cars around.
- MrARPA, on 10/10/2007, -9/+1The Multipla looks fine.
- theHM, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I almost want to report your as being offensive for that. It's POV, I know, but the Multipla evokes a painful visceral reaction in me.
- mateo60, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9That Fiat is without a doubt, the ugliest car I've ever seen.
- ThatGeek, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5this is the worlds ugliest cars. its the worlds worst designed cars. I think all of the amc cars on there look better than some of the current cars. there is a massive difference between reliability and ugliness. true. amcs and the chevy vega and the edsel sucked ASS but it wasnt because they are ugly. (even though i truly dont like the edsel) Its because they are ***** cars. The fiat multipla looks way worse.
- willrs, on 10/10/2007, -4/+6this is missing some cars; the toyota FJ cruiser, the chrysler PT cruiser (wtf is up wtih cruisers being ugly as *****) and the chevy HHR.

- lordmike, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5My dad had a gremlin... he liked the hatchback.. it was the first car to have one... it had no power anything, straight six, and black vynil seats that gave you second degree burns in the summer and frostbite in the winter... we installed a stereo and hung the speakers form the dash with electrical tape... drove that thing until near death... his coworkers made fun of him... eventually he sold for $500 it to a guy who wanted a winter car for his girlfriend... I wish I still had that car.. it was apple green, and would be way cool today!
- Amplify, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3My first car was a Chevette and I crashed it into a Yugo one winter night. I totaled the Yugo and my car only bent the bumper a bit and broke a headlight. I just remember laughing at the guy that drove it he was so pissed that his car got owned.
- member57, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Now that's funny.
- TurboMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Everyone just once should go to an American demolition derby. When they run the compacts if 5 out of 20 on the field are chevettes, you can almost bet that 4 of the final 5 will be chevettes. those were remarkably solid little cars.
- mishabear, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I had the Pontiac version, the T1000. It was a POS for sure. Ugly as hell too but it ran forever.

- flaterates, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yeah, the Lebaron is horrible. The only thing I ever found out that was any good about them was that if you knew a Lebanese guy who owned one, (Lebanese guys have heard this joke so many times so don't even go there - it's about them being Lesbians) you can actually change the chrome on the back of the car to read "Chrysler Lesbian".
