- richquick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Really worth listening too.
- LTheobald, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Paul really knows his stuff and this is well worth listening to along with the regular format of netcast: http://www.boagworld.com
- Mhawes, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Excellent podcast!
- open_sauce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10First of all, I'm wondering why the 3 comments above have all been dugg down....
Anyway,
I can recommend this podcast. It has some good in-depth discussion of all sides of web-design from the technical to the business side of things.
Sadly, this video presentation does not work in Linux with the current latest version of flash.
This is disappointing considering the importance given to accessibility discussion on the show.
I have emailed Paul Boag (the host) about this and hope that it will be made available in a Linux friendly format. - rokkster, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This is a subject that Paul Boag is passionate about - and this is obvious from the time he's taken to produce this piece. He openly invites us to share the work - and I think every web designer/agency should add a link to this file in their site and use provide the link to clients - old and new.
Well done Paul - sterling work yet again :-) - esquareda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Dugg and linked. Nicely done Paul - as usual :)
- koweja, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I can't listen to the podcast right and it probably mentions this, but all you need to know is that standards compliant pages are usually smaller than non compliant ones. Even if you save 1kb per page, if your site has hundreds or thousands of pages and gets tens of thousands of hits per day, you save a lot of money in bandwidth. That alone should convince any business to pay someone to bring their pages up to date.
A lot of times you save more than a few kilobytes too. One page which I didn't even make standardized (just removed all of the tables) went from 215kb to 120kb. Had I actually been trying to make it standards complient, it probably would have been closer to 70kb. - Crimson77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The time saving elements explained in the podcast are my real reason to listen. Saving time and money on redesign and tweaking the site really makes standard worth the time to learn.
- stanton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i love this podcast!
- combustingboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great information, but I can't see many businesses sitting through this entire presentation. Starts strong but loses focus.
Maybe a revised version soon? hope so! - edaross, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This, as ever, is a great production from Paul.
To those who are complaining about things like Flash support for Linux, or the podcast "loosing focus"....the presentation is Creative Commons, so go ahead and use it to make your own version that you think is better, rather than just complain about this version! Or even go ahead and make you own new version from scratch! At least Paul has taken the time to get the ball rolling. - dunkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Paul does a great job without Marcus! He covers some ground without getting bogged down and keeps it lively and interesting (always difficult with one person podcasts). Definitely worth checking out if this is your kinda thing.
- nicam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Excellent, more please matey!
- MartijnV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This gives a really good view on web-standards for everyone on every level.
Even though I have to agree with combusting, it's still quite long to send to your boss.
On the other hand, wen you need to do a presentation or anything to your boss about the companies webpage this will be a good one to show. - 303nate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Keep up the great work Paul!
