- LecherousVenom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13That is a GENIUS promotional reel.
nice find.- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30Agreed. I'm glad to see some producers are just stuffing all their videos on YouTube and their uber-low-rez Flash player. We all have broadband, let's start using it right? :D
- MBarnwell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6excellent in every sense of the term
[sarcasm]
however there is a silly watermark that won't go away
[/sarcasm] - gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Anyone able to put up a copy of the 720p reel? The site is 403ing.
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm uploading a mirror for the 720p movie. It should be online in about 100 minutes. Check the comments tree at that time and I'll have posted a link for everyone.
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Here is a copy of all the mirrors that people have uploaded.

720p torrent finally up. Download away... - PAStheLoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Oh I like this. :) Digg users care for each other.. this deserves the digg just because of you guys..
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+3This time-lapse is absolutely stunning, and I couldn't imagine it with any other music.
For those who don't already know and are interested in the world's best cinemtography and time-lapse cinematography take a look at Baraka, Chronos, and Koyaanisqatsi. I know there are many more, and Koyaanisqatsi is 1/3 of a three part series but those are the only ones I've been able to find on either torrent or emule, let alone in HD.
Start with Baraka - it's not all time-lapse, but it's my no.1 cinematography film... well, maybe Hero is...
Btw, as for this link, I have to bookmark it so I can check their other stuff out later when they get their site back up. - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good torrent, it's coming down nicely thanks to all the seeders.
- tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17This needs to be torrented before it makes the front page
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Thanks for the tip. I'm uploading 480p file right now to a mirror just in case this story makes it to the front page.
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Just finished uploading. 480p Mirror @ MegaUpload:

I think that Megaupload uses session-based downloads, so that may or may not work. Just wanted to let you know. :) - NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I hope the real video is better than this (isnt done downloading)
But I believe this could be used a Preview for those waiting
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7xy_m1DL-4 - Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3So much for the "direct link" Jeffrey, it just redirects to the download page. lol =P
- Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Well I feel dumb... I swear I didn't see the comment that Saintlink posted before I made the comment above. Plz don't kill me. =|
- alephsmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@NightRush
Thanks for the preview. Will bookmark for later. 720p FTW!
- RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Great find. The airplane glidepath footage was awesome--the first genuinely unique imagery I've seen in film for a while. This reel reminded me of an old indie movie from 1983 called Koyanisqaatsi. Though this looks much cleaner thanks to the HD. The lack of an overbearing social commentary or Philip Glass musical accompaniment was welcome too.
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0085809/- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That Koyanisqaatsi looks like a nice film you could put in your TV as a background picture when you host a party. This is what HD should be all about though, clear pictures without any DRM or unwanted "enhancements".
- JavertHolmes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Good call with Koyaanisqatsi. Awesome find by Saintlink and props to the production company that put this together (although I won't envy your bandwidth bill a few hours from now :) ). If you're into films of this type, also check out http://spiritofbaraka.com/ which is pretty much an index of them.
- afghanwhiggle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2A little off topic, but I gotta tell ya, the Qaatsi trilogy, particularly the first two are pretty crappy DVDs, quality wise. I'm pretty sure they just cropped the original print to widescreen for them. The only friggin DVDs that I have that I want to look spectacular, aren't.
If they reissue these to their original glory in either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, well that's who wins the format war for me. Hopefully Reggio pushes a remaster. - Rhino_Jockey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Yeah movies should be all pretty pictures and no content, music or social commentary. Those things make brain hurt.
- dosterm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Koyanisqaatsi is Phillip Glass' best stuff, IMHO. Worth just checking out the film for the music. So there! ;)
- Yetimon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If you like Koyaanisqatsi, you should also check out Ron Fricke's "Chronos" (http://imdb.com/title/tt0088919/) - some very nice timelapse footage.
- Derferman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So strange that you mention that movie. Last week we were shown that movie in economics class. We didn't watch the entire thing as it is over one hour and fifty minutes. The movie was beautiful and so interesting to watch. I especially liked the last scene with the rocket.
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Any particular reason why that film would be shown in an economics class? Just curious...
- polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice!! I don't often find people who have seen this. There are a couple others in the series, like Naquoyqatsi and some other P-------- one......
- Derferman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Saintlink
My economics teacher is somewhat insane, but the main reason is to show just how life really is on our planet and how it works. It is the first week of school, so it is a "introductory" lesson. I know that's a lame reason, but I was happy that we could watch it. - josho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Can't hate on Philip Glass.. Michael Nyman (artist of the Gattaca OST featured in this video) has a LOT of stuff in the similar style.
- RadiantBeing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The funny thing about Philip Glass is that I didn't dislike his music until after I'd watched Koyanisqaatsi and started sampling his other stuff. His soundtrack is appropriate to the movie, which itself is harsh and abrasive at times. However, the soundtrack and Glass's other works aren't exactly the kind of thing I would listen to for pleasure.
I could see an economics professor showing this in class since it compares the frenzy and decay of modern life with timeless nature. However, I would argue that the contrast was exagerated by the feeling in the air between the economic collapse of the 1970s and the excesses of the 1980s.
As for the DVD, it is a bit of trivia that the movie was initially shot in 4:3 and then edited down to widescreen format for DVDs. I have the original version, which I taped off PBS one night.
- FlapJaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8That was beautiful.. dugg.
- zorplex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The time lapse reel was absolutely stunning. The view with the stars moving behind the barren tree is breathtaking. If I had the money to spare I wouldn't mind investing in an HD camera. ;)
- heatdeath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2People keep commenting on the "HD camera"...it's a digital still SLR - it's not "HD". The pictures were just pasted together into a video.
- craigily, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12wow the airplanes are what got me actually... everything looks so different in that framerate... puts things in a different perspective.
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yea, the planes taking off from LAX was my favorite part of the video. Still, all of it is worth viewing. I've saved both files to my hardrive. The other video where the guy was blowing up watermelons was a hoot also. :-D
- djrobo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Absolutely incredible
- RubberbandLN6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The only word that comes to my mind when I watch this is....beautiful.
- t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The plane part was cool. I tried to do this and never finished it. I did it of some clouds. I need to resize it. 8MP is too much for my system to handle.
- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3it lagged in quicktime for me, but worked flawlessly with vlc, so maybe you could try that ;-)
- t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Their video played fine for me in totem. I was talking about making my own.
- NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Its already down, Was there any higher resolutions than the 480p upload above?
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It is still working for me?
Try this 720p if you want higher rez:
http://www.599productions.com/599/HD%20Media_files/TimelapseReel720p.mov - illicium, on 10/12/2007, -12/+2Saintlink beat me to it :(
- NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3When I go to the link, after about a 30 second wait, I do see a quicktime logo, But it dont see any status bar, or anything that indicates its actually loading a vid. I could not load the homepage of 599productions either :'(
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Have you tried using Flashget or a download manager to just directly download the link to your hardrive and then play it back after it is completely transfered?
- NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It ended up working (the site loaded insted of an error) and I got the 480p one. And about half way of my 720p download it just stopped, im guessing the site has died.
- fireface100, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yes it did same thing happened to me.
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It is still working for me?
- gtg697w, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4does anyone know the name of the song that is used in the 480p mirrored version posted above?
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2MICHAEL NYMAN, from The Piano soundtrack I think.
- gtg697w, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5thanks for the lead on Michael Nyman, it's actually "The Morrow" by Nyman from the "Gattaca" movie soundtrack..."Gattaca" is a great movie btw
- EnderWalcott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Are you sure it's not from the Gattaca soundtrack?
Sorry, gtg697w pointed that out.
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So, where can the poor of us from third-world countries get a not-so-high definition of this amazing mysterious video? The damn MegaUpload link isn't working right now because all of the 3000 (only 3000!) slots for Brazil are in use, so...
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Well, I got in. The 480p version is about 84 MB, so it'll take a couple hours to download. I hope it's worth it!
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It is worth it, trust me. :-)
- LucasVB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It was! Very beautiful, the clouds by the moonlight, the planes! :o
Wow.
- Lazrius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The music adds a nice touch.
- ween14, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2The video may speak for itself, after all we are well past the age of silent movies, but you still could have told us what the movie was about. At least let us know a little bit about it. What is it showing time lapsed? It isn't hard, and would really help motivate me to sit through the slow loading of the site this video is on.
- Jaybob404, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I just ***** my pants 86 times. That video ruled.
- scispaz, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Maybe it comes from flying into LAX at night so often, but I am not all that impressed.
When the wind is right you can drive down the 405 and see the planes coming in 10 miles apart for 100 miles out. The flight path runs parallel to the highway for miles. I've taken super shuttle rides that showed the same thing at a better angle. - fireface100, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Can somebody put up a 720p link the site has been taken out.
- roflcpt3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3GAH its not working. megaupload isnt either. Can sombody get another version uploaded please?
- roflcpt3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I meant to say the high def version
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'll try uploading the 720p version to another mirror. I'm on fairly slow cable, so it will take a little less than two hours. Check back on this thread tree and I'll post the mirror link once it has completed uploading.
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1http://www.uploading.com/files/3JOAGONY/TimelapseReel720p.mov.html
- atommotherheart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3is there a rapidshare or megaupload link for the 720p?
- ydt89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Someone should torrent it...
- alteeffour, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1someone did torrent it. look above your post
- alteeffour, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sorry i should have included the link. http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3521924
- 4Prophecy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That was awesome, definite digg.
- ray9x, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10nevermind :x
digg down pls- vostok4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well last I checked the Golden Gate bridge wasn't in LA :)
- muggin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does anyone have a torrent for the 720p?
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3http://www.uploading.com/files/3JOAGONY/TimelapseReel720p.mov.html
- chasealicious11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2thanks for the upload of the 720p!! (this is beautiful
- Wolfbeta, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Great way to kill the acutations of your DSLR. I can guarantee this guys 20D is dead/dying/or at Canon for repair.
- NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6But it was worth it wasnt it?
- Wolfbeta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh it was!
But I wouldn't recommend everyone going out and trying this.
My advice, if anyone really wants to try this. Go and rent a body, even if you have your own. - wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Photography newb here. What are acutations?
- MadMan2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The 20D is rated to 50k actuations as far as I know - at 5fps, 180 seconds is under 1k frames.
- MadMan2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Actually, I'm stupid, the 5fps number is wrong, I meant 30fps since that's the effective framerate.. still, it's just a camera, and a new shutter assembly is less than $300
- muggin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Here is another timelapse peice with pans.
http://homepage.mac.com/ollielarkin/mishmash.mov- Sparkdog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Hmm, I wonder if you made that, seeing as you both spelled "piece" incorrectly..... : )
That's nice work also, though, especially the shot of the treeline and stars with occasional passing traffic lighting up the scene. - lucas911, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Great Video. How do you about rotating the camera but maintaining the timelapse? Great Video!
- chrisdelta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Where can I get the music for this?
- ollielarkin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thanks for the link, the digg effect caused my sever to block acess and took a google search to see my vid had been linked to on digg.
i put another version up on youtube in case it happens again.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3bRwB5fDFo
the music btw is from mylos album, but i forget the track name.
I'll make sure to post my next batch up when its ready
- Sparkdog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Hmm, I wonder if you made that, seeing as you both spelled "piece" incorrectly..... : )
- Vanadium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I've mirrored the 480p version on my server, for as long as it will last. :-)
http://brio2.briosolutions.com/TimelapseReel480p.mov- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks, I'm getting upwards of 100kB/second. Let's just hope it lasts. I'll torrent it if people want, but it's only the 480p.
[edit] err, my speed's slowly decreasing... - Vanadium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm pushing 3MB/sec (Megabytes!!) right now.. :-)
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks, I'm getting upwards of 100kB/second. Let's just hope it lasts. I'll torrent it if people want, but it's only the 480p.
- smarusich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Absolutely Awesome! I wonder what the stats were on making it.
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3480p torrent available! :D
http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3521917 - OutofExile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I know this is another voice adding to many others, but I just want to agree that a 720p torrent would be awesome. I'd like to use this video as my 720p HDTV/monitor's wallpaper.
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If no one else gets it before me, I should have it in less than 20 minutes. :)
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Woo! Beat my deadline. The link's in a reply to the first comment.
- cjarnesen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well, ask and you shall receive. 720p torrent. Should work.
link: http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3521925- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hah, yours is one after mine.
- OutofExile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks to all who posted the 720p version!
- Drew599, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18 So this is where all my bandwidth is going. I'm glad to see that so many people like watching the timelapse. Just for the record my 20D that I shot this on still works just fine. I'm sure one of these days the shutter will go out. Also thanks for those that made a torrent of this.
- oskite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I would love to see the rest of your site. But alas, I'm out of luck. I bookmarked it for when this dies down though. This is truly a beautiful production, I urge you to continue making things like this.
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yes, good job and welcome to digg. :)
- mikeanegus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This really is unbelievable...i need to do one of these...i've only got a 350D though...anyone know if there's a tutorial for this kind of thing anywhere....the glidepath sequence is definitely the best.
What a life-changing video. - johnvid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cool - Must do my local airport - Liverpool John Lennon. I have been doing some HD stuff too, and find at the moment my blip account www.johnvid.blip.tv is the best place to store them, though any other tips on other good places to store HD with minimum fuss would be good!
for more HD check out the above link or www.liverpool-skyline.co.uk - directedition, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Koyaanisqatsi is available in 720p and is beautiful. This is a decent reel, but it just can't compete.
- afghanwhiggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A quick google search pulls nothing about it being remastered into 720p. After a search for 720p torrents, I found a couple of 2 part CDRs encoded to AVI, is this what you're speaking of?
Where are you finding a 720p version? - smarusich, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3521925
