good message, but no official- Quakank, on 01/29/2008, -22/+24I agree. I wish more people would listen to the parts about not attacking the beliefs of the Scientologists. Almost all the "raid" vids I've seen on youtube involve laughing at and insulting their beliefs, and much less attacking of the actions ANON is fighting. Their beliefs are pretty crazy and everyone is entitled to their opinion of how retarded they are, but it's important that attacking their beliefs does not become the core of the battle. That'll just help the Scientologists.
- alkajazz, on 01/29/2008, -11/+24Its a Pyramid scheme. They take advantage of people. How is that right?
- AntzNZ, on 01/29/2008, -0/+20I think what he is trying to get at, is it is not the beliefs we should be attacking, more the ways they promote there beliefs, and what they do to the followers.
- Quakank, on 01/29/2008, -1/+8THANK YOU. No one else seems to understand that Scientologists' beliefs are not "charge people a quarter of a million dollars for training" or "isolate a person requiring medical attention until they die" or any other crazy thing that people are mad about. We aren't trying to stop people from believing the crazy ***** about Xenu and golden airliners, or that psychiatry is dangerous even. It's what the Scientologists DO that we we need to be attacking.
- digichris, on 01/29/2008, -16/+11So is Christianity, and alot of other religions in some ways, but people somehow overlook the fact they do pretty much the same things. Murder in the name of their beliefs (in the form of brainwashing their own members to the point of starvation or whatnot). They brainwash their followers. They collect money just like other religions... Of course it's not right, that's just common sense.
But people are acting like Scientology are the first brainiacs to pull something like this off. I think these people need to find something better to do with their time, ala war protesting or whatever. Hating on/harassing/raiding Scientology is just as much of a joke as the religion itself.
As far as them taking advantage of their followers, people know when they go for their first "e-meter reading" (whatever the ***** they call it) that they are walking into the CHURCH of Scientology, not a Scientology medical center, not a stress clinic, or anything such. So it's not like they are tricked into coughing up cash for nothing...they are looking for some type of spiritual guidance... You go in, they tell you a little of their ***** story of how this entity created us and if we dont do this, then bad things will happen. And if you believe it - your in for life, you give them money, you do their rituals (fasting, praying 5 times a day, not eating this type of food, etc.) until you either die, or realize that your religion is BS. Weather it's in the form of donations at mass every Sunday, or in the form of Scientology pay-per-knowledge plans. You pay them to fill you with the bliss of ignorance. So if you want to save all these poor people that are robbed/killed/brainwashed by religion, why only pick on Scientology? I guess an easy target since the Southpark episode?
This whole Scientology-Anon stuff is *yawn* IMO. Let's focus on more important ***** people, like if Brittney is wearing undies today...- chrillen, on 01/29/2008, -3/+9Yeah, I pay so much money to my church and give so much of my life to it.
- atheinostic, on 01/29/2008, -0/+3Church is free, Scientology is not.
Christians won't stalk and harass and harm you if you leave Christianity; Scientologists will.
- Ben1220, on 01/29/2008, -2/+12Yeah, lots of churches are guilty of promoting their beliefs this way, but scientolgy is much worse, they have even gotten into a row with google, they try to get rid of links with criticism in them. And the original founder also spoke about making a religion for profit.
- viruz, on 01/29/2008, -3/+6Christianity was no different back in its day. Scientologist may have killed a few people, but how many has christianity killed for being critical of it?
- loquax, on 01/29/2008, -0/+10I am a Catholic; and as far as the "established" Christian denominations, we are perhaps the most organized and politically active. I've been very disappointed in resent years with how the Church has handled the priest sexual abuse cases, and I've made my views known. I've even gone so far as to stop giving them money beyond the parish level (I give to Kiva.org instead). I've expressed my displeasure to priests and bishops, written about it, and freely talked to others in my church about it. Never have I felt threatened. Never have I looked out the window and wondered if the black van outside was from the Vatican. I have never received numerous phone calls of a disturbing nature.
The Co$ uses tactics like this. They had an "Operation Freekout" where they attempted to get a journalist who was investigating them arrested or committed to an psychiatric hospital (go figure that one out as they hate psychiatry). They had several operations in the U.S. to infiltrate the IRS, the American Medical Association, and have done similar things in Canada and Europe.
Part of their doctrine is the idea of "Game." From what I can gather, the "Game" is a competition between all beings, and the Scientologists are all on the same team. Going after someone who opposes Scientology's power moves, or going after someone who exposes them marks you as "fair game." They claim that they have abolished this doctrine, but if you watch the Panorama BBC document, you can see it is still in place.
Like Anon has said, Scientology's beliefs are not what is at issue here. As a Christian, I can fully recognize how weird some of my beliefs are. I have friends who are Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, atheists, and a bunch of other things. I respect their religious beliefs, and I have never tried to impose my faith on them. I put Co$ in the category of some of the Christian Identity churches who espouse white-supremacy. I don't care if someone who is CI believes that whites are superior to other humans, but I do care when churches associated with CI attack people of other races.
We have to oppose tyranny, slavery, and intimidation when we see it. I don't agree 100% with Anon's tactics, but I do agree with their basic message and the basic reason behind their attact.
- AntzNZ, on 01/29/2008, -0/+20I think what he is trying to get at, is it is not the beliefs we should be attacking, more the ways they promote there beliefs, and what they do to the followers.
- alkajazz, on 01/29/2008, -0/+3Religion will always be manipulated for power and money. The catholic church did it, churches still do it. Pastors do it. Politicians play off religious sentiments for it. As long as people are willing to accept blind faith, they will be deceived. The Truth will set you free.
- alkajazz, on 01/29/2008, -11/+24Its a Pyramid scheme. They take advantage of people. How is that right?
- Archcoder, on 01/29/2008, -7/+113There is no official voice of Anonymous. There are no leaders. There are no PR centers. Anonymous is a decentralized collective.
- lostboy, on 01/29/2008, -20/+12no it's not. Simply put Anonymous always publishes under the same youtube name so we know what is from them and what is unofficial.
Sorry if that idea doesn't sound attractive, sorry if the idea that there are individuals in the group taking specific action, sorry that I suggest now that these videos are all about PR and propaganda. Anonymous publishes under a specific name so we can follow their words, whether we agree or disagree. Your soundbites may garner diggs but the truth of the matter is more mundane.- Archcoder, on 01/29/2008, -2/+27That is not how it works.

- njcarlos, on 01/29/2008, -3/+2The problem with that theory is that with no leader, stupid 8 year olds will embark on some epic quest to debunk, or rebuke the presence of, Scientology. In this way, you'll have nothing more than an unorganized group of idiots making prank calls and otherwise undermining the original group that in reality has substantial power limited not to foolish games. I get it: some people, even on Digg, have no life or life meaning and in a knee-jerk reaction, attempt to do do something meaningful. They have a false perception of power and unity, when in reality anyone who does nothing more than pranks their centers is similarly nothing more than a nuisance.
- lostboy, on 01/29/2008, -20/+12no it's not. Simply put Anonymous always publishes under the same youtube name so we know what is from them and what is unofficial.
- randomerratum, on 06/10/2008, -5/+15So how does one actually confirm the authenticity of an anonymous author?
Not trying to sound facetious, seriously wondering.- Hellbacon, on 01/29/2008, -1/+20Look at what they're saying.

- digichris, on 01/29/2008, -1/+15Honk if you hate scientology.
- PathDaemon, on 01/29/2008, -3/+18As hard as it is to believe, anonymous has no leaders. Sites like 711chan and partyvan acted as bases out of support for the cause, but while some people may have had more involvement up to now, they could leave the "group" and not be missed.
Unfortunately, a consequence of this is that the videos "released by anonymous" will continue to get ***** due to ***** creators.
But this concept comes from the *chans: you're permitted to post without logging in and without filling in any of the fields that you usually see above comment forms. When you do, you post as Anonymous. Therefore, on the *chans, anonymous is nonexistent. It is the internet. It is the unnamed. It is sometimes sarcastic and it sometimes picks up memes, BUT IT CAN TAKE UP CAUSES. And anonymous has declared war on Scientology.
A question to Digg: 711chan is gone. Partyvan is gone. #xenu is gone (banned me with "anonymous will find a new home"). Where is anonymous to turn? Where is this new home? Is there a new Wiki, a new IRC channel?- hextic, on 01/29/2008, -5/+4http://calloftheday.com/forum/

- Berkana, on 01/29/2008, -93/+50If y'all don't mind, let me present to you Old L. Ron Hubbard, an epic poem about the struggle between a totalitarian megalomaniac who wanted to shape the world after himself, and the faceless protagonist who issues public notices from a synthesized voice:
Old L. Ron Hubbard
went to the cupboard
to find Dianetics a home (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dianetics )
and to his surprise
what he found was inside
was an e-meter there all alone. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-meter )
So he set up a table
and as much as was able,
gave stress tests to all passers by
and one by one slowly
the ignorant lowly
did see their own cash swiftly fly.
And soon Ron was stoked
with legions of blokes
and celebrity jokes all around (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_cruise )
with thetans a purging (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thetans )
a cult was emerging
Scientology swiftly gained ground.
But some tried to leave,
and this Ron did grieve,
on them "Fair Game" he declaired. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Game_%28Scientol ... )
with goons at command
the command was at hand
to strike them swift unprepared.
This did continue
through many a venue
through Narconon, Delphian too. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narconon , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphian_School )
operation snow white (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White )
displayed how they fight
the list of their victims thus grew. (http://whyaretheydead.net/ )
Some SPs got killed, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suppressive_person )
free speech then got chilled,
all of this observed by anon. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ )
We raised a cry
this cult to defy
to fight them until they are gone.
The war was declared,
their server not spared, (http://www.digg.com/security/Hackers_brutalize_Sci ... )
The MSM echoed the news (http://www.digg.com/politics/NBC_Group_wants_to_de ... )
beware of their lies
and intentions disguised
for slavery you must not choose.
So 2/10/08
show up at their gate
with protesting pickets in hand
exposing their lies
deprive them their prize
and justice for victims demand.- metapop, on 01/29/2008, -18/+25my advice? stick to haikus.
example:
long post
read by few, bringing shame to family
buried by many
-metapop- Wandel, on 01/29/2008, -6/+20I think someone doesn't know what makes a haiku...
- darkmist, on 01/29/2008, -4/+8I think the first five words are meant to be the first line
- drgmdp, on 01/29/2008, -5/+11wrong, it's all about the number of syllabes
- Prayer4theDying, on 01/29/2008, -0/+7darkmist got it right. If you read the first 5 words together, it works out right.
long - post - read - by -few (5)
bring-ing - shame - to - fam-i-ly (7)
bu-ried - by - man-y (5)
- metapop, on 01/29/2008, -5/+15according to wikipedia, modern haiku is much more free-form and less constrained to syllabic limitations, and i chose to exercise my new found haiku freedoms. i never in my wildest dreams thought i would be debating contemporary haiku on digg, yet here we are.
- PathDaemon, on 01/29/2008, -3/+5A haiku is defined by its syllabic structure. That insane limitation brings out much better work.
- bot001220, on 01/29/2008, -5/+3wikipedia can be edited by any random smacktard with an internet connection. don't treat it as a source of infinite knowledge.

- darkmist, on 01/29/2008, -4/+8I think the first five words are meant to be the first line
- HiKevinRose, on 01/29/2008, -8/+2Your Haiku is bad (5)
You know nothing of Haiku (7)
Don't do another. (5)
Here's my contemporary Haiku, ready?
You suck at Haikus
There, free-form with zero regard for syllabic integrity. ;-) - DominicSL, on 01/29/2008, -2/+2A little knowledge is a dangerous thing... people have 1 day covering "haiku" in 10th grade English and they are experts.
Who submitted the scientology article to the poetry section of digg, anyway?

- round427, on 01/29/2008, -0/+6Shifting public opinion against Scientology even more than Tom Cruise has already done would be a huge blow to the organization, because they depend on brainwashing tactics to obtain and keep their followers. Simply spreading the truth (notice how no lies have been told about the organization; all this crazy ***** is true) is doing what they're most afraid of. That's why it's important to spread information about them to as wide an audience as possible.
- jj101, on 01/29/2008, -0/+3Exactly. Knowledge is a type of power. Ignorance is a type of weakness - one that is preyed upon by cults like the CoS. By simply generating publicity they are raising awareness and informing people about the nature of this cut. This is something the CoS has used the full extent of the law (and then some) and lots of money to prevent. Well done to anon!
- DominicSL, on 01/29/2008, -0/+3Thats just what the people who run the church of scientology want you to think. They've actually made it quite easy for a group like us to assist in their dismantling, simply by being so brazen in their disregard for human rights and the law.

also imagine needing to be a priest before u could buy and read the bible.

I'm guessing it won't be too hard to tell if it's fake...If "Anon" starts making videos about throwing dead puppies at Scientologists or stapling anti-CoS fliers to endangered species, it's a safe bet that it's not real. This seems pretty consistent with what's been going down at partyvan so far...Even if it wasn't made by the so-called "inner core" of Anonymous, it was still made by someone who aligns themselves with Anon.

The Church of Scientology may try to hijack the message in an attempt to sabotage the movement against them.
But... this is the same thing that conventional freedom fighters have faced in the past. It'll work out. Especially if Anon released videos accusing Scientology for impersonating Anon. - hillkiwi, on 01/29/2008, -0/+6They need something like an original song, or complex combination of overlapping noises that would be hard to reproduce. They could play 5 second consecutive segments at the end of each video, and if the sounds spliced to together perfectly with previous videos you'd know they were authentic.
Of course if multiple people are making the videos independently of one another some kind of secured sharing of the master file would need to take place at some point.- RSterkenburg, on 01/29/2008, -0/+4Or they could just keep releasing them via Church0fScientology.
- hillkiwi, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2True, you just have to hope Sci can't somehow get that account closed.
- t3rmv3locity, on 01/29/2008, -0/+2You would be surprised how easy it is to manipulate audio with the right tools. I am a Pro Tools user, and I do pro audio recording. Different frequencies could be separated, copied, shifted (in pitch and time), sped up or slowed down (without changing the sound of the audio). Before computers that may have worked, but the new ability to manipulate audio with (very) expensive software has changed all of that.

- insertcleverid, on 01/29/2008, -1/+17Despite the 'possibly fake' nature of all religions, Scientology is particularly bad, because they are, unlike most christian faiths, cult-like. They have the following cult features, my top 5: 1. They are authoritarian. All other features reflect this. 2. Pyramidal structure - the leadership reserves 'truth' from the low level members, in fact, use outright lies in recruiting process (the whole 'alien thing' only comes up after all the personality tests are done.) 3. Uses thought reform. (watch the south park episode and tell me that's not thought reform, they have an alternate frickin COSMOLOGY for god's sake.) 4. Isolation of members, geographically, socially and otherwise (they have literally allowed subjects to die, rather than release them back into society via Emergency Rooms.) 5. Charismatic or messianic leader who is self-appointed and has a special mission in life, like L-RON.

- insertcleverid, on 01/29/2008, -2/+2Two days ago Anon sounded like a loose, open group of malicious techno-elitists looking to ***** with random people for lulz, who then happened to (virtuously or not perhaps beside the point) decide to go after what is arguably the most dangerous and evil cults on earth. This action cast them as flawed heroes of literary proportions akin to Clint Eastwood in the wild west. Now, if this video is connected to who ever is top dog (or top of the dog-pile for now) over at Anon, they seem to be actively promoting themselves and their actions in a better light with deliberate political guile. If they succeed, this will make it more difficult for them to justify them getting their lulz at the expense of innocent, happy go lucky internet citizens. That would make Anon, in my book, anyway, an organization of great potential and optimism. If, on the other hand, its just a release from some coat tail rider, hoping for a seat at the table, and Anon is really just looking for notoriety and fear mongering instead of a real advancement in internet equality and freedom, they just might be a cure worse than the cold. I say too close to call. Unless, of course, the top dog at Anon lets me know just what the hell they're up to.
- Hellbacon, on 01/29/2008, -0/+1.... there's no top dog. especially not moot, he wishes to be the little girl.
