Bush Cronies Redefined ‘Carbon Dioxide' to Help Polluters
thinkprogress.org — It is common knowledge that carbon dioxide is the same chemical regardless of what source emits it. But for the White House, which unabashedly asserts its anti-environment agenda, the definition of CO2 can change to help big polluters.

3rd world country? Yeah, right. I'm not even American and I'm not dumb enough to believe that America would become an undeveloped country. It is already developed, and as long as the government does at least a half-assed job it will not ever get to that point.
"You be in the military or doing state work soon."
And what, exactly, is wrong with that? Unless you're getting sent to stupid wars in Iraq, the military looks after its soldiers well and you're a good person for trying to serve your country.
Global warming is a real issue. It will be affecting you, and your children in the near future. So overall, go ***** yourself.

- PawnsOfJoshua, on 07/23/2008, -1/+4Democrats will do nothing about....what? There is nothing to this...did you happen to read the article...they are discussing a conversation between 2 individuals where one asked the other if you *could* differentiate CO2 emissions, and the scope of the conversation is NOT a chemical level, its on a legal level. So this is brainless anti-establishment propaganda. Now, I am no GWB fan by any means, but please, spare us these baseless rants because you UNDERMINE the real issues with this stupid *****. Buried.

- khail250, on 07/23/2008, -8/+9Just like Terrorist now means 1million Americans :(
- yourpalOZ, on 07/23/2008, -17/+10Here's 5 reasons why the Environment is not really the agenda
1) there are NO controls over house heating systems that burn fuel oil
2) No one seems to regulate or have special fire forces for wild fires in California That pollute the entire northern hemisphere more than all the car do for a year.
3) when the EPA began to regulate auto emissions 1968 in USA it did not include city buses and trucks
4) Coal fired electric plants are huge polluters with minor regulations and why all that mercury is in the fish you eat. That electric car won't help!
5) Did we fix the Ozone layer hole or did DuPont dupe the government into regulating R-12 freon because the patent expired and they wanted to assure they make all the $$ on refrigerant
Watch and believe TV and be nice sheep!- AoiTakuma, on 07/23/2008, -1/+9Wild fires are natural disasters. Natural being the key word there. Of course "fire prevention" techniques have caused them to occur less frequently but with greater intensity, which makes them more harmful to us. Finally, the carbon being released by forest fires is not carbon that has been stored in the ground for the past few million years, it is still an active part of the carbon cycle. Oil, coal and natural gas are not.
- ouzome, on 07/23/2008, -12/+5Well, if Obama and Al Gore have their way - they will be controlling all of your thermostats regardless of how they are powered. Too cold/warm in your own house? Too bad!

- duckyinc, on 07/23/2008, -0/+24Carbon Dioxide is Carbon Dioxide, it's the same no matter from what source it comes from.
- Squidwalk, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Reading this article, it made me wonder if the point of trying to have different policies for automobiles and stationary CO2 emitters was not to make allowances for one or the other. Being pessimistic in this situation does make a lot of sense, but theoretically they could be putting stricter CO2 restrictions on automobiles or something of that nature. After all, we don't impose a carbon credit system on gas guzzlers yet. I think the local rich guys in SUVs are as responsible for my air quality as much as the coal burning plants.

(I am not in any way advocating the regulating of water vapor, but using it as an example to point out how ridiculous it is to regulate carbon dioxide)
- brettg102, on 07/23/2008, -2/+7...I'm about ready to quit this site.
- FlaG8r, on 07/23/2008, -5/+2While exiting, please avoid allowing the door to violently contact your buttocks.
- DerangedPenguin, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4No please we need you here to digg down the idiots, and support the logical thinkers.
- CourtesyFlush, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3That's the inherent flaw with a website that is specifically designed to reward popularity over accuracy.
It attracts the masses who want to be popular at any cost....and drives the minority who favor accuracy away.
The average digger believes that digging a total piece of ***** will magically make it true. We see it time and time again.
Unfortunately for Digg.com, Popularity != Credibility. Lies will never become the truth, regardless of how many thousands of diggs a POS article receives.

- DiggDuggDunn, on 07/23/2008, -6/+6Damn that Bush cabal!!! He and that demon Chaney sent the Mars rovers to the red planet in FLEETS of Cadillac SUVs, and now the martian polar icecaps are melting!!! It's the only logical reason why BOTH planets are experiencing global warming!! It's the ONLY ONE!!! Oh wait.......you mean both planets get their energy from the same source? What's that? The Sun? What? The Sun? Why the Bush / Chaney's are even more diabolical than even the most intelligent leftie (oxymoron, I know) could have imagined!!! They've mastered the Sun!! Those bastards!!!
Did anyone notice the high quality paper used to make Algore's book "An Unbelievable Lie"? No recycled crap for that one!! Only the highest quality, glossy, heavy stock for Al's garbage!
Question........Who has the most energy efficient living space? GWB or Al Gore. Lefities need not answer. We know the truth is inconvenient.- PawnsOfJoshua, on 07/23/2008, -2/+2You need to understand that global warming is not a leftist issue. It is an issue targeted at gullible idiots, and only an idiot buys into it, regardless of political affiliation.
- MikeFallopian, on 07/23/2008, -2/+6This story is incredibly misleading. The supreme court case MA vs. EPA resulted in a ruling stating that the EPA is required to regulate tailpipe emissions from automobiles. It did not specifically address CO2 emissions from power plants; the ambiguity has to do with the scope of the ruling, not the definition of CO2.
- thegrantman, on 07/23/2008, -3/+1No surprise here.If something doesn't fit your agenda, there are several ways to fix it. 1. Deny the problem.2. Minimize the problem. 3.Distraction.4.Token repair.5.Change the rules to accommodate the problem.6.Change the definition to accommodate the rules. Those are just a few.
- Chassit, on 07/23/2008, -2/+6Find me a real source and maybe I'll believe it.
- AchaIemoipas, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1The source is C-Span. The source is a video of the Senate. You can't get a more accurate source.
But hey, these comments coming from citizens of the only country in the world where creationism is making a comeback...

- Treoinmypocket, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3Here is the entire hearing. I find this interesting - go to 41:35 minutes in and listen to NASA's former Senior Scientist for Climate Studies, particularly his last minute...and then listen to Barbara Boxer's dismissal of him (49:11 minutes in).

Talk about a politician with an agenda that won't be influenced by pesky research findings and the valid discussion that should result from them. - DerangedPenguin, on 07/23/2008, -1/+7"Bush Cronies Redefined ‘Carbon Dioxide' to Help Polluters" This must be an article from The Onion.
Bush and Cronies: liberal-fascism mantra # 1 all conservatives are gangsters with cronies
Carbon: liberal-fascism mantra # 2, 3 and 4 Carbon is the most frightening thing in the world, once we get rid off all Carbon based chemistry, then we can concentrate on Nitrogen soon all that will be left will be pure clean Oxygen.
Dioxide: Di sounds like die which sounds like something that happens in Bush's war against the indigenous peoples of Iraq, putting Di in front of Oxide makes Oxygen evil, Bush is making Oxygen evil also. Bush must be stopped, please give funds to the Bush Legacy Bush Tour.
Help Polluters: Liberal-Fascism Mantra # 5 All industry just wants to poison the Earth and kill everything off, conservatives are behind all that is evil in the world. Never mind the Liberal-Fascist supporter driving the Land Rover with the Obama08 bumper sticker at 90 MPH sucking down hydrocarbons faster than my Mini at 60 MPH.
Sigh this article is a complete waste of electricity. It was written on a computer, stored on servers, distributed via the Internet and viewed on computers. How many Kilowatts worth of electricity, produced by Polluters helped by Bush, did it take for someone to read this article? - squidgravy, on 07/23/2008, -0/+5I'm so sick and tired of this worthless debate. Once again lets all jump on the "Bash Bush Bandwagon". Maybe if we all work hard enough we can blame the crucifixion of Christ on the Bush administration as well. Probably some secret time travel device that Bush himself concocted to go back and alter Biblical history. And maybe, just maybe, those evil and harmful CO2 emissions were created at the hands of the Bush administration for some obscure and deviant purpose of cooking every man, woman and child on the face of the planet simply to see if they can do it.
Get a job people.... Wake up!!! Global warming is a concoction of the left wing liberal democrats (and Al Gore too) for the eventual creation of a Global Energy Government that can tax at will the air you breath and control the monetary value of every single living being, state, and country on the planet. Hence the creation of the One World Government.
If you want to live in a third world environment, by all means I wont stop you. Just do it somewhere else so that you don't infringe on my way of life. You can have your horse and buggy, a candle lit mud hut, and an out house do your thinking, be my guest. Maybe you should all move to the rain forests of South America or the plains of Africa and start a tribe or something.
The Global Warming frenzy is not about saving the planet, it's about Government and money.- ouzome, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Nice response!
- 2matrix, on 07/23/2008, -0/+4don't forget Al Gore redefined Global Warming to make money off of carbon credits.....
who even reads thinkprogress.org ? - PawnsOfJoshua, on 07/23/2008, -0/+6Doesn't it seem strange how this baseless George Bush attack, at no point in the article or the video, EVER even mentions George Bush, and it only references one of his advisers who simply asked a legitimate question regarding the classification of CO2 emissions from a legal scope (not a chemical scope like Mr. Burnett at the so evidently biased submitter are implying)?
Don't get me wrong - I hate me some GW Bush. All I am saying is that he has given us enough legitimate reasons to hate him that we don't have to undermine the real issues by jumping on every bull ***** bandwagon that rolls through digg.com. - Indpthinker, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Are the same people going to redefine breathing?
- coyote1284, on 07/23/2008, -0/+1Quick, someone call Captain Planet, Bush just assigned Looten Plunder to his cabinet.

- BECoole, on 07/23/2008, -0/+3In other news, Al Gore cronies redefine CO2 as a pollutant.
Next up, a look at one of the most toxic, dangerous substances known to man, Dihydrous Oxide.- WoollyMittens, on 07/23/2008, -1/+1Too much CO2 will kill you just as much as too much H2O.
- ouzome, on 07/23/2008, -0/+2So they both must be terrible for the environment! next time try to make a valid point that pertains to the argument.
