I ducked back into a bar door.
It was all night pourin'... pourin'... rain
, but not a drop on me!" - tmoney578, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4just the fact that a hurricane is named Bertha scares me. I'm in Louisiana, and we finally get over the two old ladies that hit us 3 years ago (you know who I'm talking about), and now... BIG BERTHA???!! OH *****!
- SkippyDoorknob, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7If they make it to "M" this year, then that one should be "Marge" so that we can have Big Bertha and Large Marge in the same year.
- wynja, on 07/08/2008, -2/+2Big Bertha...... and she's priming up in the Atlantic and could easily decide it's time to check out the Big Apple.

Probably shouldn't get your weather updates from CNN.- Bittermanscolon, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1I will never willingly get "information" from CNN.
Sensationalism at it's best.
- Bittermanscolon, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1I will never willingly get "information" from CNN.
- sagat, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Here's hoping it's the only one.
- bestsoccerdog, on 07/08/2008, -1/+275 mph is nothing, we don't even get out of school.
- Ryan166, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6lol summer school.
- dynamojoe, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Here in Miami, they won't run the school buses if tropical storm force winds are predicted (39mph). If you don't get out of school for a hurricane, you're a) hardcore and b) in Stupidville. Move away.
- sixsixsixtimer, on 07/08/2008, -5/+0Big deal. Its track takes it out into open water and it isn't a threat to anybody. Sometimes I think many weather reporters are closeted 911 troofers and fear mongers.
- Visual77, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Or...
This article is just to indicate that the 2008 Atlantic Hurricane season has officially started.- sixsixsixtimer, on 07/08/2008, -4/+0The title should have indicated that.
- Visual77, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4You have the attention span of a goldfish.
The first sentence of the digg summary says it.
I doubt you even read that last sentence, though. Or this one. - sixsixsixtimer, on 07/08/2008, -4/+0I saw that, but the title makes it look more dramatic than it really is.
- Visual77, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4It has 4 words.
CNN says Bertha is now a hurricane.
How dramatic is that?
It's about as distilled of a headline as possible, stating only the incontrovertible facts and not a single word more.
- BlueSkyfish, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Wth? They're just reporting the weather. Or are hurricanes considered "liberal bias" now?
- Visual77, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Or...
- amadeusdemarzi, on 07/08/2008, -3/+1I love california :)

- Robopath, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1I hope to god were not going to start tracking weather systems in the middle of nowhere on the front page.
inb4 Climate change is going to kill us all. - superkendall, on 07/08/2008, -3/+175 MPH, doesn't seem to be trying very hard. It's hard to believe something I could pass in my car could be considered a hurricane.
- Johnny1337h4x0r, on 07/08/2008, -3/+3Why the hell is this on the front page? Before I get any smart ass answers about "because people though it was cool and clicked the thumbs up button" I mean who and why the hell did they find this story interesting in any way or form possible?
- Serial0Hacker, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0???
- vikingcoder, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3You're surprised that ~300 people were interested in the news of the first hurricane of the 2008 season?
You can easily remove the Environment category from your front page listing; make it simple and remove the entire Science section.
- tomasII, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5I am sure this is Bush's fault somehow.

- codylee270, on 07/08/2008, -2/+0"It was packing winds of 75 mph -- the minimum for hurricane"...
Umm, the minimum wind speed of a Cat 1 hurricane is technically 74 MPH, but I'm not a CNN reporter... - Solstice, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1There was a hurricane Bertha that hit the east coast about 10 years ago. I was vacationing on the North Carolina coast and was forced to evacuate. Put a quick end to that trip.
- control7, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Bertha don'cha come around here any more.
- kingp, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1I remember Bertha from 1996. It destroyed my home in eastern NC.
- RationalXubrnce, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2 The Bertha of a Hurricane.
- homescrubb, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1buried for being 2 days old. given the rapid evolution and relatively short life of these beasts, two days is OLD news...
- p51d007, on 07/09/2008, -1/+1If you are dumb enough to build a house on the COAST, in the path of potential hurricanes, too frickin' bad.
I've seen post after post about the "dumb rednecks" that build along the rivers up north that are flooding.
Well, some think idiots who build in south Florida are stupid as well.
At least where I am, all we have to worry about is a tornado once in a while. Tornadoes are like hurricanes that only stick around for a few seconds.- zombies187, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2Then move because you are dumb?
- caponumen, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2OMFG, global warming has reared it horrible man made head, yet again.
We never used to have these huge cat 1 hurricanes before Bush took office.
Please save us oh mighty Gorical, you are our only hope........ - michaelblank, on 07/09/2008, -0/+2I blame the person who named it, they might as well have called it "Buster" or "Break Stuff"... they should call them things like "Breeze" or "Beauty" and they might act the part.
- gkiltz, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0Luckily, it's moving into an area of colder water! No heat to keep it fueled, and it will almost certainly fall apart! This one only ever threatened shipping, and not much of that!
- hakkola, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1Who names these things?
*****.
When do I get to see Hurricane Murder, or Hurricane Ominous, or at least Hurricane My Little Pony?
These names aren't scary, or funny. I demand one or the other. I DEMAND it!
