earthobservatory.nasa.gov — The first major wildfires of the season in California got underway in the first week of summer 2008 when thunderstorms brought lightning but little rain to drought-stricken forests and chaparral in the state. The fires continued to rage in early July. This natural-color image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)

Fires Around Lake Baikal - fugeelama, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Just cause San Diego is fire-free right now doesn't mean it shouldn't be included in a picture that shows the rest of the state. Give it 3 more months and we'll be covered in smoke and ash like everyone else.
