U.S. Could Get Ten Million Solar Roofs in Ten Years
redgreenandblue.org — U.S. Senator Bernie Saunders (I-VT) has introduced a Bill to the Senate that would help homeowners to slash the cost of installing solar panels. The 10 Million Solar Roofs Act of 2008 will offer rebates for up to half the cost of installing solar photovoltaic systems, and run for ten years...

- Thrilltone, on 07/03/2008, -2/+12The Senate will vote it down, out of fear of displeasing their Lobbyist Overlords.
- SaraLiberty, on 08/16/2008, -0/+2Yep. They would never approve something like this. Ever. Government subsidizing rebates for solar photovoltaic systems? Perish the thought! We must be dependant on 'foreign oil!' "we're big in bed with that."
Congress and senate are too preoccupied in working to take more of our freedoms and privacy rights away to be concerned about this. They're too busy finding new ways to further dismantle our Constitution and whittle away the Bill of Rights to be bothered with renewable energy possibilities. Besides, they need the money to fund another multi-billion dollar war spending bill to keep the profiteering scheme afloat for the military industrial complex, defense industry and central bankers. Solar roofs? They're too busy writing 10 million dollar taxpayer funded payments to Pakistan's president in "untraceable cash transfers". Besides, how will they ever afford to give Israels government 5 billion dollars of our money in "foreign aid" every year? Much less give Egypt another million dollars every month "because they can."..
They serve the corporate energy empires, oil cartels, "special interest" groups, and ultra-wealthy lobbyists who buy & sell them, not us. Such entities would NEVER condone solar roofs which will curb their profits and put an end to their sky high energy rates gouging the citizen serfs. "Representatives of the People!" is a false front myth to be propped up for diversion purposes. America has the best politicians money can buy. Unfortunately, few people can afford to own one.
Props to Saunders for at least trying. It is a great idea. And government SHOULD subsidize something like this that truly benefits the American people they are elected to serve. He is to be commended for a brave step in getting the ball rolling. At least he is proactive offering us real SOLUTIONS instead of political double-speak rhetoric and hopelessness.

- mrzeero, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Anything that will actually reduce our dependence on oil will be struck down for one reason or another by the Bush administration.
- wonderworm, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Let's change this country for the better and never be a slave to Middle Eastern oil countries who do not like us ever again. Contact your senators in support of this bill and be sure to vote straight democratic with some choice Libertarians this November! We also need an equivalent personal home windmill credit to install a wind generator on your house as well as a MASSIVE electric car credit to use all the new energy that we are adding to the grid with solar and wind power. That will teach Bush and his oil cronies along with their islamic Oil buddies in the middle east.
- redcolumbine, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Go Brainy Bernie!
- akey, on 07/04/2008, -1/+3very cool
- Babblin5, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3I hope so. There's NO REASON why the government couldn't subsidize solar panels for homeowners when a nuclear plant would cost billions...
- gavinhudson, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Good for the US! Fingers crossed!
- drake25, on 07/08/2008, -0/+0 It is programs like this that I say we should pay an extra $1 tax on gas to fund [not trucking companies] Now at first everyone would scream about this, and I go through $100 a week on gas, it would only be a $25 a week increase for me. I could pay that knowing that the price will come down within a few years because we are using more renewable energy. Build windmill generators, build hydrogen supply structure, and more solar panels. This is way better than nuclear plants because there is only so much uranium available.
