- TalSiach, on 08/08/2008, -1/+22I think #4 is the scariest i heard some really crazy stories about it , the big brother is watching i guess.. ..
- PimpSetBitch, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2I used to be a checker at a grocery store and this one lady says "I never want anyone to know what I am buying because it is invading my privacy" People are just paranoid.
I guess I could of had my eyes closed while bagging her groceries - pacificislandr4, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1I work part-time as a checker as well. Whenever someone doesn't have a store card I just use my own, and let them have the discount (only if they're not assholes). That should throw off the system. Plus, I get a lot of nice coupons.
But really, store cards are voluntary. So if you don't want your privacy invaded, just pay full price for your groceries.

- Shilpan9166, on 08/08/2008, -0/+17I only go to grocery store with a list of things I want. I never look at the 'sale' items. It's a waste of money for things I don't need in the first place.
- jackwelch, on 08/08/2008, -0/+14#10 is a perfect example of a false sense of security... I've been wrongly charged for stuff several times.
- cluckcluck, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2I work at an "Organic/Natural Grocery Store", things are priced incorrectly in the computer all. the. time.
It's an extremely accident-prone system when, like the article said, hundreds of items change prices every week.
I've started paying much more attention to the prices showing up on the screen when I'm checking out. - emducks, on 08/08/2008, -0/+0I shop at Whole Foods and I catch one or more incorrectly priced items on approximately 50% of visits. For some reason, WF has a lot of trouble keeping their pricing up-to-date (matching prices on shelves to prices in system). I can't watch the screen while unloading my basket and trying to pay (plus I'm easily distracted by friendly distractions, such as "how are you today?"), so I just look at the receipt before I leave the store. They always refund the difference and apologize, and sometimes they've even given me the item completely free. I love WF, so I keep shopping there, but I have to watch 'em like a hawk!

- numberneal, on 08/08/2008, -0/+611. the milk is always good if it's drunk before the expiration date:
false; the other day i made some hot chocolate with some milk that had 7 days to expire; i had to swallow 1/2 of last night's dinner i threw up in my mouth. - numberneal, on 08/08/2008, -0/+612. employees always must wash their hands after using the restroom:
false; i saw a butcher with more dirt in his fingernails than a squirrel. - numberneal, on 08/08/2008, -1/+513. the restrooms smell like somebody ***** a dead rat:
you can't handle the truth. - AnimalAffinity, on 08/08/2008, -0/+4Good list. I still like farmers markets because the quality of the produce is better than the wilty stuff in the store.
- ironeus, on 08/08/2008, -0/+3I always try and verify the scanned price, especially on discounted goods.
- SVOboy, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Nice list, changes my view on the grocery store a bit
- mattnyc99, on 08/08/2008, -0/+514. BAD MUSIC
- benb24, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1Some of this stuff is pretty eye-opening.
- CrucialMatt, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1but more importantly there's a website called groceryschool.com
- drunkmonkey01, on 08/08/2008, -3/+2#9 is a bit misleading. Although organic foods might not be more nutritious, they are usually better for your body since they were made with less chemicals and other crap.
- RiteJoe, on 08/08/2008, -0/+0A lot of good information here. Checking your receipt is a good idea.
- xero69, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2If possible always watch the register or screen attached to the register during checkout. You'll be surprised how often you catch something ringing up higher than it should.
- lisaawesome, on 08/10/2008, -0/+1That's the easiest way to catch and correct the error. The cashier can change it right then before you have paid so you don't have to go through the hassle of a refund. And good cashiers will remember a certain item is ringing up incorrectly and will automatically change it for the rest of the customers.
- apr35, on 08/08/2008, -0/+2this was cool and all, but I'm not sure about subscribing to "Grocery School" I think almost everything I really need to know about groceries has officially been covered
- erichw1504, on 08/08/2008, -0/+211. Guys like grocery shopping
FALSE: Guys like sitting at home playing video games and drinking beer while wife shops for the weekly food items. - smurfz, on 08/08/2008, -1/+1#9 is ridiculous
- springboks, on 08/08/2008, -0/+1what in the world is "boutique produce"?
- mofw, on 08/08/2008, -1/+1DUGG- Sort of.
- moonchld5, on 08/11/2008, -0/+1Coming to the grocery store with a list is supposedly very time and money conserving, problem is, I always end up having to go down every isle (verifying I didn't forget anything) and I end up buying a lot more than I originally intended (so long for savings!)
