ploomy.com — Let’s face it, every man should know how to cook a steak. It should be no surprise either because after all men have been loving red meat as long as the sun has been shining. You would think perfecting the steak would be already ingrained in our DNA, but it isn ’t. But fear not my friend. Here are the basics on how to cook a steak.

- Wakkyweed, on 07/04/2008, -1/+4A pretty good guide to cooking a steak. I would only change one thing - yes, you need to let the meat rest, but 10 minutes would be far too long for most standard steak cuts, as it would be stone cold when you eat it. Change the resting time to 3 to 5 minutes, and things will be much better.
- sakmode, on 07/04/2008, -1/+9Nice! This is much better than my process:
1 - call the restaurant and book a table.
2 - go to the restaurant, take a seat and order a steak. The trick to getting it done just the way you want it is to tell the waiter: if you want it well done say "well done"; if you want it rare, say "rare"
but mine has a greater chance of success and is less work. - hdar3415, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6Well, that made me hungry for a steak.
- mattyk123, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4I always order a steak when I'm out because I like to be complimented with my meal.
"Here's your steak sir.. Well done" - blackjack75, on 07/05/2008, -1/+6They forgot the most entertaining and manly part: knocking down the cow with one fist.
- Tonorific, on 07/05/2008, -2/+4stergeron needs to get his man card revoked. Here's how to cook a steak the right way:
1. Start with a good cut, nicely marbled and at least an 1" to 1.5" thick (3.7cm)
2. NO RUB, NO MARINADE, NO PRE-SEASONING! If you don't like how steak tastes eat chicken or tofu or whatever pussies eat.
3. Avoid pan frying or baking steak at all costs. Use a Barbecue, charcoal if you can.
4. Preheat grill to 400 degrees, grab a beer.
5. Grill steak 5-7 minutes per side, do not over-handle the meat. Flip it once only, grab a beer.
6. Once flipped, salt to taste. you can add some pepper if you like, but, take it easy on the seasonings, don't ruin the flavor of the meat, grab another beer.
7. After 10-14 minutes, your meat is done correctly, medium rare. If you don't like it medium rare make yourself some chicken or tofu or whatever pussies eat.
8. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before serving, depending on the thickness. If you cut into a steak right off the grill the juice will run all over your plate and it'll dry out. Grab a beer.
I've noticed a disturbing trend among the British, they tend to over cook their meat. They equate a nice pink center with the meat being raw and unhealthy. This not the case. Avoid eating rare chicken and pork but beef and most fish can be eaten rare and in most cases taste damn good that way. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TURN A GOOD PIECE OF MEAT INTO SHOE LEATHER!

- JazzCat25, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Good article. it covered the basics for me which is what i wanted.
- aflaks, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1This article is great but does not cover proper grilling techniques, with grill being the only real way to make a steak
- VyPR, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Pre-seasoned cast iron skillet FTW (about $15 - 20 bucks at Amazon)
1. Allow steak to reach room temperature. Rub with kosher salt, garlic (optional), and pepper. Rub a bit of olive oil on each side.
2. Set oven to broil and put the empty skillet in as it heats. Let it get to 500 degrees
3. Turn stove eye to highest setting. Open a window and turn on the hood fan (it's gonna be smokey). Remove pan from oven and place on hot stove eye.
4. Place steak in hot skillet. 30-45 seconds on the frst side. Flip steak and do the other side the same.
5. After the second side is done, immediately place pan in oven for 1:30-2:30 per side depending on how well done you like the steak (I recommend medium rare).
6. Remove steak from pan and cover loosely with foil. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting it.
