http://bakingbites.com/2005/10/thin-minties/- willb285, on 01/31/2008, -1/+4Yep, just put a thin layer of mint creme on the bottom of one of those, then dip it in melted dark chocolate, thin mint.
- mvanhorn, on 01/31/2008, -3/+9touché
- ThinkBox, on 01/31/2008, -1/+44KRose just owned your reading comprehension.
- EmitStop, on 01/31/2008, -14/+1Wow, i wish i made a comment that Kevin rose replied too.
- EmitStop, on 01/31/2008, -0/+8*to
- Veni_Vidi_Vici, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Hopefully he read that and better appreciates the need to fix the comment system. And add digg to the default dictionary. Unless my browser has a dictionary, I really don't know CS.
- chrisbarr, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1well, here's an example of a bad on that he won't reply to. just me and EmitStop I guess. Sorry.

- Artemis11, on 01/31/2008, -5/+2K-pwned...
- cbegin, on 01/31/2008, -0/+0Poor man's thinmints....
Melt bakers chocolate (dark, milk, semi -- your choice) over hot water (i.e. double pan to avoid burning it)
Add liquid mint extract
Dip / coat Ritz crackers in the mixture
Place on wax paper and refridgerate
Takes like 10 minutes and you have something that's 90% there...good for a fix when those little brats aren't around to sell you your thinmint crack. - CedEx, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1How come in those recipes, I don't see where they add in the crack-cocaine for the addictive qualities of their cookies? I swear, when I buy these cookies, I finish them so quick, I practically have to chase down the Girl Scout before she reaches my neighbour's house. I also get withdrawal symptoms afterwards too.
- steveboutin, on 02/02/2008, -0/+1that's the secret ingredient, of course they're not gonna post it online.
i like to use actual powder coke in my tag-a-longs instead of the rock form. it's a little more expensive, but you will taste the difference.
- steveboutin, on 02/02/2008, -0/+1that's the secret ingredient, of course they're not gonna post it online.
- kevinrose, on 01/31/2008, -5/+100oh, you mean the link in the first sentence of the article?
- yuandme, on 01/31/2008, -6/+13yes! now there's no need to deal with obnoxious door-to-door selling girl scouts.
- whoamarcos, on 01/31/2008, -1/+10pedophiles will still entertain them
- Koushiro, on 01/31/2008, -0/+8Girlscouts actually still sell these? I seem parents with forms in offices and girls sitting outside of like walmarts with the cookies. Been ages since someone came to the door.
- edwartica, on 01/31/2008, -2/+2Well, you still need the girl scouts for the cookies, don't you? I mean, where else are you going to get fresh girl scouts?
- KingGorilla, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1I take it you did not read the article
- pointpointclick, on 01/31/2008, -3/+147They're not even made from real Girl Scouts... buried.
- newman1320, on 01/31/2008, -8/+66Yeah! I'll get my wife right on it!
- btgoss, on 01/31/2008, -12/+3Put that foot down brother!!!
Testify!
- btgoss, on 01/31/2008, -12/+3Put that foot down brother!!!

- NevinW11, on 01/31/2008, -17/+1thin minties? lol
- edwartica, on 01/31/2008, -3/+1That's what she said.....while pointing at your naked genitalia.
- cxzsaq, on 01/31/2008, -19/+1Wouldn't it be funny if this was the first ever post of Kevin's NOT to hit the front page? That would be democracy in action.
- defaultdigger, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Why do you keep posting this?
- Worldchrisis, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Didn't happen.

- chicoer2001, on 01/31/2008, -1/+11Yes! Year round cookies for a cheaper price.
- sjbdallas, on 01/31/2008, -3/+6Somehow i missed the little whores this year and didn't get my supply of thin mints. I'll have to try these recipes now.
- edwartica, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Great, now I'm thinking about Jenny Lewis before she was a musician and staring in cheesy 80's movies with Shelly long!
- signal15, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Not only cheaper, but better for you. Have you looked at the ingredient list on real Girl Scout cookies? That ***** will kill you.
- edwartica, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Its also cannibalistic. Or wait - are Girl scouts really people?
- sjbdallas, on 01/31/2008, -3/+6Somehow i missed the little whores this year and didn't get my supply of thin mints. I'll have to try these recipes now.
- stalefries, on 01/31/2008, -7/+10Frankly, I hoped to see a recipe for Thin Mints.
Edit: looks like I'm not the only one who prefers Thin Mints, they make up 45% of all Girl Scout Cookie sales, according to Wikipedia:
* Thin Mints (45% of total sales)
* Samoas/Caramel DeLites (9%)
* Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties (17%)
* Savannahs/Do-si-dos/Peanut Butter Sandwiches (19%)

Sure they may not be exactly the same, but I'm sure the taste can come pretty darn close. - Jauladeoro, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1I made a recipe at Christmas time that tasted exactly like thin mints. - AndrewDB, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Damn it's down, can someone who got it get the recipe for Samoas?
I already have a recipe for thin mints..- shyner, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2It's not down for me. Here:
Homemade Samoas (a.k.a. Caramel de-Lites)
Cookies
1 cup butter, soft
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
up to 2 tbsp milk
Preheat oven to 350F.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Mix in flour, baking powder and salt at a low speed, followed by the vanilla and milk, adding in the milk as needed to make the dough come together without being sticky (it’s possible you might not need to add milk at all). The dough should come together into a soft, not-too-sticky ball. Add in a bit of extra flour if your dough is very sticky.
Roll the dough (working in two or three batches) out between pieces of wax paper to about 1/4-inch thickness (or slightly less) and use a 1 1/2-inch cookie cutter to make rounds. Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and use a knife, or the end of a wide straw, to cut a smaller center hole. Repeat with remaining dough. Alternatively, use scant tablespoons of dough and press into an even layer in a mini donut pan to form the rounds.
Bake cookies for 10-12 minutes, until bottoms are lightly browned and cookies are set. If using a mini donut pan, bake for only about 10 minutes, until edges are light gold.
Cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Topping
3 cups shredded coconut (sweetened or unsweetened)
12-oz good-quality chewy caramels
1/4 tsp salt
3 tbsp milk
8 oz. dark or semisweet chocolate (chocolate chips are ok)
Preheat oven to 300. Spread coconut evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet (preferably one with sides) and toast 20 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, until coconut is golden. Cool on baking sheet, stirring occasionally. Set aside.
Unwrap the caramels and place in a large microwave-safe bowl with milk and salt. Cook on high for 3-4 minutes, stopping to stir a few times to help the caramel melt. When smooth, fold in toasted coconut with a spatula.
Using the spatula or a small offset spatula, spread topping on cooled cookies, using about 2-3 tsp per cookie. Reheat caramel for a few seconds in the microwave if it gets too firm to work with.
While topping sets up, melt chocolate in a small bowl. Heat on high in the microwave in 45 second intervals, stirring thoroughly to prevent scorching. Dip the base of each cookie into the chocolate and place on a clean piece of parchment paper. Transfer all remaining chocolate (or melt a bit of additional chocolate, if necessary) into a piping bag or a ziplock bag with the corner snipped off and drizzle finished cookies with chocolate.
Let chocolate set completely before storing in an airtight container.
Makes about 3 1/2-4 dozen cookies.- AndrewDB, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2Thanks! :)
- shyner, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2It's not down for me. Here:

- Ohimesama, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Meh... Girl Scout cookies. I was a 'cookie mom' for my brownie troop once. (You don't have to be a mom to do that at all. False advertising.) I still have flash backs when I see the little darlings sitting outside of the grocery stores. *shudder*
- michaelaranda, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3Now, about that Panda Express orange chicken recipe...
- mlirblur, on 01/31/2008, -0/+0Oh god yes...

5. Garnish with 8 tons ??????

- bingobongony, on 01/31/2008, -4/+1The only real girl scout cookies are the thin mints. No discussion.
- iRaachie, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2I'm on Team Thin Mints. I have a recipe for them that were pretty good...

You're welcome. (PS, They've gotta be PEPPERMINT extract not MINT) - Commonwealth, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1That's definitely the first time I've had to accept a user agreement to see a cookie recipe. I have to make them now!

-Joecartoon - charlietuna, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2Here, thin mints:
http://tinyurl.com/yuao73 - cs188, on 01/31/2008, -0/+11Let's see...so for this recipe we'll need 2 girls, 1 cup...of butter - soft, 1/2 cup of sugar, 2 cups all purpose flour...
- BingoPower, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2Sounds like playboy mansion to me...
- kss42, on 01/31/2008, -0/+4Why are they Samoas now? They must be Caramel Delites because then I can call them CDs and people will laugh because they are SHAPED like CDs! Now my whole comedy act is ruined. But anyway, they are the best and everyone knows it.
- helikopter, on 01/31/2008, -1/+2which part was the comedy act? none of it was funny.
- w00tfest99, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1They're both Samoas and Caramel Delites. It depends what part of the country you're in. The biggest difference is that Samoas are made with dark chocolate and CDs are made with milk chocolate. Whichever you choose, they're the best.
- TwwIX, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3I'd rather have a Girl Scout recipe.
- DutchOven, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't go so far as to call the brother fat, I mean he got a weight problem. What's the ni**er gonna do? He likes to eat Samoas!
- PlutoPrime, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1Ingriedient #1: 3lb tenderized scout girl fresh off the front door.
On a side note... the other day one stopped at my door and she was so insanely cute... and I've always told myself no Kids for another 10 years ... But damn .. that's the moment I thought to myself it would be cool to be the father of a girl like that....- troyfoley, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1I thought you couldn't get creepier after the first comment. I stand corrected.
- skyshock1, on 01/31/2008, -4/+1Uck Samoas.... blegh, no thanks.
What about tag-a-longs? - thedude42, on 01/31/2008, -1/+1What's funny about this, I live in Texas, and a few years back when Laura Bush released her cook book or whatever it was, she released a cookie recipe. My brother in law works in a deli, and they decided to make her "Laura Bush Cookie" recipe.
He brought some cookies home, and after the jokes were done I tried one, at which point I realized exactly why she married ol George: The recipe was 100% ripped off from the girl scouts (samoa, aka caramel delights), but she just left out the hole, used chocolate chips instead of chocolate glazing, slapped her name on it and called it hers.
Lucky for the world the Girl Scouts aren't the RIAA, otherwise they'd have a big IP lawsuit against the lame duck first lady. - warlokaz2004, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1"...are they made from real girl scouts?"
