mainstreet.com — I'll be honest; I'm not 100% sure about wine sold in a grocery store. But what the hell, I'll try a few of these.

- grumpygorilla, on 05/15/2008, -0/+8I've actually had a few of these - the Clos du Bois and Primitivo are really nice for the value. I actually buy most of my table wine from Sams :)
- Grogtron, on 05/15/2008, -0/+5Around here (Washington US) many grocery stores have largeish wine selections. Many of which you would see stocked in one of the local specialty shops. Some of those are remarkably good.
The only real difference is that the 20% difference in cost.- Tomchei, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1West Coast has fairly nice wine selections in the supermarkets and even convenience stores. (and they sell on Sundays)
Southeast on the other hand, not so good and they don't sell on Sundays.

- superduperguy, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2I'm not kidding; my sister likes Franzia "Chillable Red," sold in a box.
- simpletwist, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2So youre sayig that if I try a boxed wine from the supermarket, I won't immediately regret it?
- nahsrocketeer75, on 05/15/2008, -0/+6It has a cork? ... Pour, please.
- grendelboogie, on 05/15/2008, -0/+5The Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc is quite excellent. Pineapple and citrus in front, with a little green pepper in the aftertaste.
- simpletwist, on 05/15/2008, -1/+14All the box wine I've had has been battery acid in front, with a little racehorse in the aftertaste
- FlyingSpaghetti, on 05/15/2008, -1/+3Shut up and pour me another glass from the spigot!
- maryac, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1these wines aren't all that great except for the Primitivo. However Savingnon Blanc is the best white wine for cooking and grocery store prices on it are excellent usually.
- greengardenchic, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1I wish we had a bigger list of good wines for under $10. Just like the rest of the wine producing world.
- Asvetic, on 05/15/2008, -0/+8The top 10 wines sold in Pennsylvania grocery stores are:
Oh, that's right you can't buy wine or beer in a Pennsylvania grocery store.- lAciDl, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1same thing in Jersey, but i actually prefer it that way. More selection by having stores that specialize in booze, the closet store to me is huge, its in the building of an old foodtown. Their selection of craft brews is top notch. when ever i try to get beer out of state my only choices are major crap brands. Id be lucky to find new castle or yuengling.
- omnivector, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Yeah.. That's one of the nice things about getting out of the north east. You can actually buy booze (including hard liquor) in grocery stories out in California. And why the hell shouldn't you be able to?
Sigh.
- anubis2night, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2Man this is why I love where I live (sonoma county) I can ride a bike to many wineries in my area and just buy from them or try it there and buy from the local stores. But then again I must have over 100 bottles of wine stored up (lot's of friends work for wineries and in this area you get a lot of wine as gifts) and I'm not that huge a wine drinker. Alderbrook makes a great wine though it's gotten expensive in the last few years. Sausal makes a good Zin also. But there's a lot of unknown wineries that are great up and comers.
- ElGigi, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2That's why I love living in Chile....you can have a good wine in almost any grocery store for less than $10
:) - crapmatic, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Too snooty! No reviews of Franzia or Gallo??
- decker12, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3In most Northern California Safeways (and other grocery stores), the wine selection is excellent, literally hundreds of options, from $3 to $100. I rarely, if ever, go to a liquor store (or BevMo) unless I'm looking for something special.
- wattersm, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Around here Meijer has a great wine selection along with a pretty decent liquor aisle.
- Ardiea, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3I don't see MD 20/20 on there.
- Disfnord, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2It's illegal to sell wine in grocery stores in my state, you insensitive clod!
- aaronisreal, on 05/15/2008, -0/+2I must say that I haven't been disappointed in any bottle of Yellow Tail that I've had.
- candafilm, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1The Albertsons (grocery store) by my house has a larger wine collection than some of the actual wine shops in town. There are a couple of gems in there.
- troyfoley, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Ménage à Trois Red FTW...
- funkytaco, on 05/15/2008, -0/+1Voulez vous, for sure.
- moosecharmer, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0yes! so tasty, and yet so cheap.
- darlingbastard, on 05/15/2008, -1/+1Clos du bois is good but its price has skyrocketed in my neighborhood. I think it's up to 24$ right now. Not sure it fits in with the rest of this list.
- funkytaco, on 05/15/2008, -0/+3Two buck chuck is nearly 3 bucks here, but it's still the best for the money. You get drunk pretty damn quick.
- rocman9, on 05/16/2008, -0/+2Carlo Rossi FTMFW
- peterinjapan, on 05/16/2008, -0/+3Peter's advice for avoiding hangovers: learn to drink wine or any other alcoholic beverage (not beer) with lots of ice. Adding ice to a very dry wine makes it more drinkable, and in the process you drink as much water as wine, as the ice melts. This blocks 75% of the hangover potential. In my next report I'll let you know how chewing vitamin C before sex can improve your love life greatly.
- simpletwist, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1Chewing a breath mint before sex helps, too.
- omnivector, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I'm addicted to two buck chuck (Charles Shaw) Cabernet Sauvignon. It bests even most $10+ bottles, at a bargain basement $2.
- moosecharmer, on 05/16/2008, -0/+0my grocery store guilty pleasure: red bicyclette rose. It's pink!
