Awesome Football Trick Play watch!
break.com — A high school football team pulls off an awesome trick play making their opponent look really really stupid. Theyll never fall for the old Wrong Ball Coach trick again.

- ceredron, on 09/07/2008, -2/+7Hate to bring it up, but there are thirds football teams at a lot of schools, consisting of 9th and 10th graders, mostly, who could easily pass for this. And as for the "friday night lights"...
3rds football plays a good three hours before varsity does. And usually on thursdays.- jmt612, on 09/07/2008, -0/+4AKA Junior Varsity games
- ngmcs8203, on 09/08/2008, -0/+13rds sounds more like a frosh or frosh/soph team to me. Varsity, JV, Frosh/Soph
But that's just my guess.
- whataboutdave, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3It's possible that Break just used the wrong description. It wouldn't be the first time.

- Pramma, on 09/07/2008, -35/+4That's not a legal play.
- BigBrasky, on 09/07/2008, -1/+34The snap was legal, wasn't it?
- guruboyguru, on 09/07/2008, -0/+25BigBrasky, I don't think you understand. Pramma is literally a football expert. If you asked, he would tell you all about his high school career. He would probably have stories for you.
He wouldn't tell you that this play is legal. He wouldn't tell you there are videos all over the interweb of the play being carried out at least to the high school level. He surely wouldn't elaborate upon the rules that this play breaks, because they're too complicated for you.

- BetterOffEd, on 09/07/2008, -0/+8Indeed it is. Did you hear a whistle?
- goreyend, on 09/07/2008, -4/+11Regardless of the logistics of the play, this is a dirty play.
- MelvinSchlubman, on 09/08/2008, -1/+5Deception is inherently dirty? I wonder: shortly after the bunt in baseball was invented, was it considered dirty?
- goreyend, on 09/09/2008, -0/+1Baseball?
- Klatuu, on 09/08/2008, -1/+2Really at what point makes it not legal, ref blew the whistle the ball was indeed snapped. Please back up your ridiculous claim moron.
- tacojohn48, on 09/08/2008, -0/+3It is called a side snap; it is indeed legal. The entire play is based on misdirection, and misdirection is encouraged in football, for example a pump fake. How is this a dirty play if the pump fake is acceptable?
- MelvinSchlubman, on 09/13/2008, -0/+2This kind of thing is, at minimum, a learning experience for life that sports can offer. Like it or not, sometimes others will try to deceive you - in business, politics, relationships - they will not always play well within the rules. It's better to learn that lesson in this relatively harmless context than to do so later, such as when your investment adviser skips the country will your life savings. [Such a thing has not happened to me, but I see news stories of the elderly being victimized like this.]
Personal example: as a freshman in a softball game in high school gym class, I was playing outfield. The activity was just sprung on us, so no one had gloves except for the pitchers and firstbasemen (the few school-supplied). I fielded a hit, and looked the runner into stopping at first. I assumed, out of good sportsmanship, that he'd stay there, since the 2nd baseman & shortstop didn't have gloves to catch a hard throw. Then I lobbed a rainbow into 2nd base. Stupid. The batter/runner then easily went to second on the throw. If I hadn't been so naive then I would have thrown a 1-hopper that probably would have held the runner and still would have been much more catchable than a strong throw all the way. I learned from that experience, as I expect defenders in this football game did (along with some of the offensive players and the fans).
- BigBrasky, on 09/07/2008, -1/+34The snap was legal, wasn't it?
- LewP, on 09/07/2008, -9/+32Yes i agree, I should have edited this from break.com, it's obvious it isn't high school....but it is indeed a legal play. The QB takes the snap and moves laterally along the line of scrimmage. It's totally legal.
- e03179, on 09/07/2008, -0/+17It doesn't matter what he does after the snap. The snap and formation are the most important thing for this being a legal play. Moving laterally has nothing to do with the play as he could walk to the coach (the coach was calling him to the sideline to aid in the trickery) who could be in front or or behind the line of scrimmage.
- spidoman, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2I would LOVE to see a team try a trick play like that and have a linebacker come and just PLOW the QB over.
- S5S5S5, on 09/07/2008, -37/+108Nice coaching. You can't beat the other team through fair play so you resort to trickery.
Maybe the title of this story should have been "Training the CEO's of tomorrows Enron's one football game at a time"- Akira121, on 09/07/2008, -11/+20Are you ***** serious?
It's a legal play.
We did the exact same play in when I was in pee-wee football but the ref called it dead since she was a total moron, and we told her beforehand we were going to run the play.- brentinkc, on 09/07/2008, -1/+9Five points to anyone who can spot the keyword in that comment.
- mooseontheloose, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1exact?
- Zipko, on 09/07/2008, -3/+6^^"she"
And for the record, it's a bush league play. Some people are alright with winning by any means necessary, but at least call it what it is. Cheap. - tatical, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1pee-wee
- diggspellcheck, on 09/08/2008, -0/+16It's an illegal play:
It's illegal according to Rule 9 in the NFHS rules book.
"Rule 9-9-4 (page 73) = Neither team shall commit any act which, in the opinion of the referee, tends to make a travesty of the game. "
Additionally, if you look in the NFHS Football Rules Case Book, they give the following example:
"9.9.3 Situation B: From a field goal formation, potential kicker A1 yells, "Where's the tee?" A2 Replies, "I'll go get it" and goes legally in motion toward the sideline. Ball is snapped to A1 who throws a touchdown pass to A2.
Ruling: Unsportsmanlike conduct prior to the snap. The ball should be declared dead and the foul enforced as a dead ball foul.
http://dumcoach.com/viewthread.php?tid=1282
There is an NFL rule called, "Palpably Unfair Acts." Under this rule, no player, substitute or fan shall interfere with a play by any act that is deemed palpably unfair.
The coach acknowledging that the ball is the wrong ball or a defective ball could be viewed as interference of a play in an unfair manner. It interferes with play and distracts and confuses the other team. It's the same as the coach yelling fire.

- whazdown, on 09/07/2008, -8/+20Not really, if the other team don't know the rules of the game then so be it. You're not taking a dive or kicking someone when they're down, you're taking advantage of the situation, capitalising on opposition stupidity.
- brycelb, on 09/07/2008, -4/+2Buried for horrendous grammar!
- S5S5S5, on 09/07/2008, -19/+26A legal play? They're pretending that there is something wrong with the ball and pretending to change it. It's trickery. Same as pretending to have a heart attack during a boxing match and then punching your opponent in the face. If you were the better sportsman, you wouldn't need such "legal plays". Only losers would resort to these kinds of tactics.
- ThatGeek, on 09/07/2008, -5/+11yep, the next time i coach a game, ill be sure to tell the other coach what im going to do. Just so no one feels bad when they leave the field.
- cphoover, on 09/07/2008, -1/+8my basketball team did something like this where everyone fell on the ground and pretended to be having heart attacks. The other team was like what the hell, and one of our players went in for a layup. we told the ref before hand we were going to do it and it worked like a charm. hilarious. As long as your not breaking the rules fair-play right. plus anyway we are talking about amateur sports here it is all in good fun, get a life people.
- stereoa, on 09/07/2008, -4/+12To the people bitching, I guess play-actions shouldn't be allowed right? No tricks. Just take the ball and run. Oh yeah, don't do any laterals or reverses or fake punts either...
- cavsct94, on 09/07/2008, -4/+21All football plays are trickery you chucklehead.
- S5S5S5, on 09/07/2008, -14/+8Crying out loud. I have to actually defend the concept of fair play!
What's the point of playing sports games in the first place? To figure out who the better player is or to figure out who can take advantage of the rules or game the system better?
I leave you with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvLZBv8HsO4- Crumbeast, on 09/07/2008, -1/+8Fake audio cues are common in football at every level of competition. It's totally fair.
- androo002345, on 09/07/2008, -2/+4http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFEZmPlvZ3c
Trick plays serve a purpose. They are not the same as what happened with Enron. Nice try, though.- S5S5S5, on 09/08/2008, -2/+2Can you explain what fake game stoppages serve?
- manova, on 09/07/2008, -2/+6Yes, lets do away with play action passes or draw plays as well. After all, they are trying to trick the defense. The bottom line is, you play until you hear a whistle. If you don't do that, then you deserve to have plays like that run against you.
- S5S5S5, on 09/08/2008, -2/+2You're comparing a fake pass to a fake game stoppage?
- diggspellcheck, on 09/07/2008, -1/+4There is an NFL rule called, "Palpably Unfair Acts." Under this rule, no player, substitute or fan shall interfere with a play by any act that is deemed palpably unfair.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bear ...- nyr633, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Palpably is the operative word here. Because of this, its up to the official to decide if the play was "palpably unfair".
- nyr633, on 09/08/2008, -2/+2I hope the next time someone tries to fake me out in ice hockey, basketball, or football, the same thing runs through their head. Its the same sort of "trickery".
- S5S5S5, on 09/08/2008, -3/+3You're comparing a fake out to a fake game stoppage?
- nyr633, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Yes, I am. Pretending you're going to go one way then going the other! Trickery at its best.... Honestly though, its the same principle in my mind and one could argue its ridiculous to compare this to the Enron scandal.
- S5S5S5, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Faking a game stoppage to distract the other team and score a touchdown.
....versus....
Faking an electricity shortage to raise prices and profit.
How exactly are those different?
- fluxion, on 09/08/2008, -2/+2its like when you're covering a guy, and he shifts his body like he's gonna go one direction, but then goes in a different one! or when QB's do those pump fakes!
damn cheaters need to take that ***** to Enron and leave football for the honest joes! - Mac454, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2I wouldn't mind this play if it were tried at the college or pro level, since the skill level and knowledge required are extremely high. But to try it at this level, where most of the kids only have a rudimentary understanding of the basic rules, is just wrong. If I were a parent of a kid on the other team (or even the team that pulled that trick), I would be sure to tell him that is NOT how to play the game, even if the results achieved are beneficial. It's one level below cheating.

- iJase, on 09/07/2008, -5/+56This play is completely legal. The center hands the ball to the quarterback through his legs, like how most traditional plays begin. This is known as the "Wrong Ball" trick and it's pretty genius. But this video is nothing new. It's hit the front page multiple times.
- ZachTorpy, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2I definitely thought the center snapped it using the "side-snap" method (turns left or right, hands it to the QB), which is completely legal.
- jax0047, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2Negative. The center snaps it around his side. This is legal in football but rarely used. It's pretty much only done for this type of play.
- troyfoley, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3Technically he doesn't even have to snap it between his legs. This is only done to put the center in a better position to block.
- JovialTempest, on 09/07/2008, -1/+1That sir, is a fumblerooski. Classing trick play where the center drops the ball on the ground to give the block. The QB then backs up the fake the throw while the Right guard picks up the ball. The rest of the O line runs to the right while the Right Guard breaks left.
The play has only ever worked for big success once in college level by Nebraska U vs Miami.

- Tophillious, on 09/07/2008, -2/+27Old as bujeebus. Still funny tho :)
- ghostrc, on 09/07/2008, -2/+25other video of a high school team doing this trick
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1IVlep60UQ- johnquincysmith, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3That's the only high school team doing it. The first was a pee-wee league.
- ry4nsm1th, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1I miss RealTV, it was always on when you needed something to watch.
- akpwnz, on 09/07/2008, -1/+52Wonder how many drunk dads were swinging at eachother in the stands after that one.

- shawal, on 09/07/2008, -9/+3Awesome and genius tactic...
- fletcher008, on 09/07/2008, -6/+3i played on a pop warner team that sent the fastest wide receiver towards the sideline to "argue" with the coach right before the ball was snapped. he then ran a fly for the endzone and for the few times we tried it we scored. if we had this play, we may have one a few more games. we werent that good of a football team.
/this video is really old.- tacojohn48, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2It's always great to have one a few games.
- music2play1, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1*won
- Ramenhood, on 09/07/2008, -4/+6Fine for it if were high school, but cheap and dirty for their age, considering they don't know all the rules and if they would of tackled him they would be thrown out of the game.
- jax0047, on 09/07/2008, -1/+0now they know the rules.
- tacojohn48, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1I don't think anyone would get thrown out for tackling a guy with a live ball.
- danieljludwig, on 09/07/2008, -4/+63it's legal but it's cheap
no decent coach would teach his kids this kind of play
by the way, it's been done before- fluxion, on 09/08/2008, -0/+5for all you know this team was one of those loser teams they make movies about and this was their last chance to win at least one game for the season for little Johnny Joe who got knocked into a coma earlier in the year but managed to come back out of it to say "win one for me guys...." and they manage to win by outsmarting the dumb jocks

- briguymaine, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2The Pats would never fall for that.
- thegrantman, on 09/07/2008, -0/+6Of course not....they invented it.
- istor, on 09/08/2008, -1/+1They sure fell to the Giants though. Every time I see a Brady jersey in a store I can't help but think... "shouldn't that be laying down on the ground"?
- gstep, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2You're right, because they would have stolen the game plan and learned all of the opposing team's signals before the game ever started.
- briguymaine, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1god rough crowd. On the bright side, looks like you won't have Tom Brady to push around this season.
- LordoftheFly, on 09/07/2008, -7/+11Old as McCain, etc.
- sneekgeek, on 09/07/2008, -2/+8This clip is so old. Buried. Wish I could bury twice for LewP not looking close enough that its NOT high school football.
- carrollpat75, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1old but legal. center uses a side snap which is completely legal as long as the ball exchanges hands. back in the early days of football they used more of a rugby toss to snap the ball like that to the side instead of through the legs.
- co79, on 09/07/2008, -0/+9What a lack of class! This is an old clip, also. Obviously, wasn't able to coach his kids up to snuff so this idiot resorts to this.
- capnpike, on 09/07/2008, -0/+24The "Wrong Ball" play is not a legal play in many High School Athletic Associations (therefore not legal in the 'peewee' leagues).
Last time I saw it tried, it drew a 15 yard penalty - Personal Foul -Deceptive Play.- Oea420, on 09/08/2008, -1/+4what the *****, deceptive play?
yeah.. cause the obvious ones are the best

2) Who really cares, it's just high school, It don't mean anything anywhere,
Non of the players from either team or the MORON Parents or the MORON Coaches will get further then the high school.- rjhomuth, on 09/08/2008, -0/+2"Doesn't." It "doesn't" mean anything anywhere.
Apparently high school doesn't/didn't mean much to you, particularly in the English department.- ucccft, on 09/10/2008, -0/+1WOW! you are sooo smart.
But as you can see with no other comments, no one gives a $hit! You must a MORON Parent or a MORON HS Coach.
I Repeat: it's just high school, It don't mean anything anywhere,

- nick2525, on 09/07/2008, -6/+1only in football could you get away with such a BS tactic!
- TheUnlearn, on 09/08/2008, -0/+0yeah, cause i don't watch just five minutes of basketball or soccer and see at least two guys go down after some incidental contact.
- chippyr, on 09/07/2008, -0/+0I've seen this about a thousand times now, how many teams will do it before someone tries it and gets annihilated by the other teams Defense lol.
- geek_xyu, on 09/07/2008, -0/+5by awesome football play do you mean "the annexation of puerto rico"?
- liquidmetalband, on 09/07/2008, -0/+1The funniest thing is that all the other team actually tried to run after the guy and catch him.... haha
- helooksmortal, on 09/07/2008, -1/+2where's the safety on that play?
- zunkus, on 09/07/2008, -0/+3A team tried a similar play against us in high school, we crushed his ass and their fans were all kinds of butt hurt. Unless you hear a whistle just tackle that *****.
- xkrwlng, on 09/07/2008, -1/+6legal play as it may be, it's very cowardly (and old).
now, would would be "awesome", is to see a QB try this, and get his ***** opened up a linebacker.- jax0047, on 09/07/2008, -2/+3How is this cowardly? There are tons of trick plays in football, it's a thinking man's sport more than any other.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trick_play
I've played in HS and College, good coaches have the team work on one trick play a week. Maybe they run it that week in the game and usually they don't, but you always prepare in case you need to try something drastic. That being said I'm pretty sure this is pee wee football and so it's not really necessary. But I bet these little punks on both teams learned a valuable life lesson that day that they never forgot. Nice guys finish last. - Lavarock, on 09/07/2008, -0/+2It's dishonest and unsportsmanlike. Not privy to the trick, if the other team had been complete assholes they would have tackled him. If there really was an issue, and they tackled him, it would have been basically assault.
