Colts' Bob Sanders wins NFL Defensive Player award
usatoday.com — "One of the things we talked about when he first got here was how critical this position is in this defense," said coach Tony Dungy, who has nicknamed Sanders "The Eraser."

- MattnJax, on 01/08/2008, -1/+20As a Jaguar's fan that sees my team play against this guy twice a year, I have to agree with the AP writers that this guy is the Defensive Player of the Year. He's a one man wrecking crew that can dominate the game, especially the run game. He's only 5'8, which makes his play that more impressive.
- wukillabee, on 01/08/2008, -10/+11Jaguars gonna beat the pats, mark it down beeyatch
- MattnJax, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Are you a Jags fan or just a Patriot's hater?
- LOLSteelBullet, on 01/08/2008, -2/+2what do the pats or the jags have to do with this?
- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/08/2008, -3/+2How did he get dugg up for a blatant lie?
- troyfoley, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1What the hell does this have to do with Bob Sanders?
- MattnJax, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Are you a Jags fan or just a Patriot's hater?
- jdb252, on 01/08/2008, -0/+13I had the privilege of watching him play while he was at Iowa - he would light up everybody he hit. What an incredible player.
- CosmoKramer, on 01/08/2008, -7/+10Honorable Mention: Antonio Cromartie.
- matyrice, on 01/08/2008, -2/+4That 109 yd field goal return alone definitely puts him in the Honorable Mention category. Well played.
- ozid, on 01/08/2008, -2/+5Bob Sanders: 3.5 Sacks, 2 picks, 6 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery
Cromartie: 18 Passes Defended, 10 Picks, 2 touchdowns (counting the fg attempt)
In my eyes the voting should have at least been split between the two. I didn't even look at tackles though... It's hard to believe Cromartie only got 3 votes.- mccartyba, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2That may be true, but sometimes the presence that a guy brings to the field is also a big factor. Out of the two, I would much rather have Sanders.
- MattnJax, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2While Cromartie is a great player (As a Florida St. guy, I knew the guy would be great in the NFL) he doesn't almost single handily control a game the way Sanders does. Sanders plays the pass, and the especially the run, better than anyone I've seen lately (Polamalu is another one). My Jags have played both the Chargers and the Colts (twice), and I definitely think the AP got this one right.
- ozid, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Ya. Being a steelers fan (and appreciating the polamalu love), I didn't get a chance to see how he does against the offense I know oh so well. I'll definitely be watching vs the Chargers, but I'll be rooting for the chargers. Oh and I'm not upset about that loss to JAX on saturday, they are a better team, and overall it was an exciting freaking game. ;)
- MattnJax, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2Thanks man. That was the most nail-biting game I've been been apart of as a Jag's fan. There was so much at stake, not just from a team standpoint, but from a city of Jacksonville standpoint. When you guys came roaring back and made it 29-28, I thought it was all falling apart. Garrard, who had been playing pretty bad all game, pulled it out though. Just hopefully we can beat the Pats.

- NachoBusiness, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Cromartie wins if the award is about best stats, no doubt. But San Diego's defense was average this year, the Colts was 3rd best in the league... and Sanders is the most common explanation for a lot of it. In other words, Cromartie's 10 picks didn't seem to result in a much better defense.
- dailyapplecrisp, on 01/08/2008, -3/+6I used to have respect for this guy, he went to my High School (Cathedral Prep) and we had a "Bob Sanders Day" where he came to my school and we all had to wear Orange "Bob Sanders" shirts, he was basically thought of as a god and he kind of reveled in it. I think he's a great player, but he is glorified in my city, but in reality is just an athlete.
- mccartyba, on 01/08/2008, -0/+6You used to have respect for him? I can only see more reason to have even more respect for the guy now... The Colts D would be nowhere near as good if he weren't there...
- sgtbutterscotch, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3I was expecting a story of how he crushed your dreams...
- Richandler, on 01/08/2008, -9/+4Boo! Patrick Willis should have won it. 174 tackles!
- kavery, on 01/08/2008, -12/+1Great player, but he didn't deserve it over Allen, Haynesworth, Ware, Cromartie just to name a few.
- mccartyba, on 01/08/2008, -2/+1Out of those you mentioned, I wouldn't have minded if Jared Allen got it. Kid is a beast.
- pheyze, on 01/08/2008, -1/+11He deserves it, amazing watching him play - magically appears at the ball carrier every play.
- mccartyba, on 01/08/2008, -0/+3Even when the play is over, you can still see him haul ass over to the ball. I love that.
- birdly, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Dungy should have nicknamed him "The Colonel".
- sofaKing812, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Having him back last year was key in the Colts winning the Super Bowl. It was like night and day on the defense.
- ToddIU03, on 01/08/2008, -1/+3Bob Sanders is amazing. Just glad the Colts locked him up with a new deal.
- underwise, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4sanders may not have the numbers of other top defensive players but he is definitely one of the biggest game changers
- Eldorian, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2I loved watching him when he played for the Hawkeyes - even though I'm not a Colts fan - I'm definitely glad to see him win.
- djadamjay, on 01/08/2008, -0/+2just saw Bob and some teamates stroll through friday night at Therapy Nightclub & Lounge in Indy. he's a class act. congrats on the Defensive Player award, Bob!
- urbanoms, on 01/08/2008, -1/+4Bob Sanders is a BEAST!!
- mlvassallo, on 01/08/2008, -1/+2Seattle's Patrick Kerney got a snub imo.
- fernfam, on 01/08/2008, -4/+2As a cowboys fan DeMarcus Ware had a great year.

- s9er80, on 01/08/2008, -1/+1patrick willis should have gotten more than 2 votes. lead the league in tackles (174) a couple of forced fumbles....

- inv1ctus, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Erie, PA WOOOO go Bob =D
Sorry we don't have much here in Erie to cheer about.- curbstompery, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1The best athlete to come out of Erie since Fred Biletnikoff so many years ago. Go Raiders!
- airship, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1Bob Sanders was a one-man defensive machine when he was here at Iowa, and he's only gotten better with age. Congrats, Bob!
- FreddyCohen, on 01/14/2008, -0/+0I love Colonel Sanders. Bob is money, too. Didn't help much today in losing to San Diego.
- mydave, on 07/31/2008, -0/+0Jaguars gonna beat the pats.
