- docdoak, on 10/12/2007, -21/+92Michigan did not belong in this game. Florida showed Ohio State what happens when very few people think they have a good chance.
For the next 8 months, the SEC has major, major bragging rights over the Big Ten.- kutaone, on 10/12/2007, -33/+52Well there's only one undefeated team in the nation..and it's not Florida...
- docdoak, on 10/12/2007, -25/+96Yeah, it's Boise State!
- kutaone, on 10/12/2007, -11/+85It will always be tainted until there is a playoff system.
No one can say Boise State doesn't deserve to be national champs...I think Florida would kill them, but we will never know. - macmcrae, on 10/12/2007, -54/+16Bwahahah where are all of the loud mouth osu and michigan retards now? Koolaid drinking LOSERS! OSU shouldn't even be in the top ten. The Big Ten is a joke.Slow overrated wankers.
- kajoob, on 10/12/2007, -48/+25Congrats to the new 2006 National Champions:
BOISE STATE - docdoak, on 10/12/2007, -32/+14kajoob:
Wishful thinking, but I do agree Boise State deserves #2!!!
By the way, Troy Smith did not deserve the Heisman trophy. - Buddhist, on 10/12/2007, -26/+16As a huge Seminoles fan, I feel a bit of dissapointment, I was hoping to see OSU pull it out, even though I had picked the Gators to win. I will admit, Troy Smith was just stopped completely. 4 passes for 35 yards and an INT? Jeez. Talk about what happens with a lack of Ted Ginn Jr.
- dustyshadow, on 10/12/2007, -33/+24ohio state reminds me of oklahoma a few years ago, overrated conference with 2 good teams, marches through the season and gets ***** by a team that actually plays a real schedule
- Breakpoint25, on 10/12/2007, -31/+6Wisconsin is the only good BIG TEN team :)
- lava, on 10/12/2007, -7/+50They should just do a ***** tournament. I would have loved to see USC v Florida (since they both kicked the asses of #1 and #2), but nooooo...
I'm a Florida fan, but I hate seeing a boring game. OSU was never in it. - dustyshadow, on 10/12/2007, -19/+43@lava
Yea but USC had two losses to two ***** teams. Get over it dude, USC is just not that good. The PAC-10 is horrible. - Lagomorph42, on 10/12/2007, -19/+3Great, now I can't watch the game on Tivo with my suspense still intact.
- nyyankee13, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15ESPN: No BCS plans for playoff system until at least 2010

How many ranked teams did Boise State play in the regular season? Zero
How many did Florida play? Four.
When your schedule sucks, you get a low ranking...but wait, for some reason this rule doesn't apply to USC. - lukeamotion, on 10/12/2007, -21/+5Hell the entire state of Florida has bragging rights.
Basketball, Football, Baseba... oh wait that was Ole Miss. Hot Damn!
HoTtY ToDdY! - eklass, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20@Lagomorph42
the suspense is gone well before halftime - ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Anyone saying the lack of Ginn for pretty much the entire game is retarded. In the last half of the season, Ginn did practically *****, rarely completing excellent passes, and the ones he did he was downed pretty quickly. I'm sorry, but OSU has too many other good players to say that Ginn being out was a major cause for our downfall.
I digg this story with an heavy heart, and a belly full of beer to drown my sorrows. - eatmorgnome, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19"For the next 8 months, the SEC has major, major bragging rights over the Big Ten."
Well, not completely. The conferences played 3 bowl games against each other, and the Big Ten one two of them.
This was the one which mattered most though. - leadingzero, on 10/12/2007, -21/+12S-E-C
The only team to beat the National Champions - Auburn
War Eagle, Baby! - ballpeenhammer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8USC in inconsistent, but I wouldn't say that they aren't good.
They hammered Michigan. And if you want to look at a like opponent, check out USC vs Arkansas against what Florida was able to do against Arkansas. - Emanji, on 10/12/2007, -7/+28i respect Boise, but come on, FL just blow out OSU, they also beat Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, Arkansas in the regular season. Boise needed 20000 trick plays in the final 5 minute to beat a very VERY overated OU. The same OU team with that weak defends and retarded passing game will get their ***** push in if they play against LSU, Florida, or even Luisville. I respect Boise and think that theyre a great great team, you have an awesome season, but youre no way National Champion. If you want a shot at the title, schedule USC or OSU in the regular season. USC played ND, Arkansas, and Nebraska for the out of conference games, they know that's what it took because their conference is weak. Don't give me that "we beat everyone on our schedule" bull *****, schedule a real team for your out of conference game, then you can say that you can hang with the big boys.
- orph3us, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3dustyshadow: i take it you don't live on the west coast. USC IS that good and more. And the PAC-10 is very good. Oregon f*cked their season up but they were very good, oregon state which beat USC had an incredible end to their season, washington and washington states had their shots, arizona has a chance to be great in the future. USC would have competed better than Ohio State IMO
- dustyshadow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15"dustyshadow: i take it you don't live on the west coast. "
I lived in San Diego for a few years. I can say that most people on the west coast don't really know much when it comes to football. that's really why they think the PAC-10 is good.
USC was beat by a team that had 5 losses (UCLA). That's horrible! - crimsonl, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3Here is the Boise State Fiesta Bowl Digg.
What do you think? What does this mean for Boise State and the WAC? Does it mean anything?

Great game Florida St - acff, on 10/12/2007, -23/+22OSU would have gone 8-4 if they were in the SEC
- fufubag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19This is why I have lost interest in college football:
The BCS is like a game a bunch of 6 year olds made up. The kids are always changing the rules, which are wacky/random in the first place.
I'll take the NFL, where they settle it on the field.
Don't blame money. No one can tell me that turning bowl games into part of a tournament wouldn't draw more viewers.
Bowl games I watched this year: 3 (1 for my team - Huskers!) (1 to see if big 12 could beat boise st.... great game) (1 to see if Big11 (can you guys count?) lived up to hype... of course not....)
Bowl games I would watch if each one was a tournament game: All of them..... - bradb59, on 10/12/2007, -12/+4How did Arkansas fair against the big Ten? And Tennessee? Yeah..ah...
#1. Good for Chris Leak..all the crap he had to put up with from Gator Nation, and he prevailed!
#2. If I were an NFL scout...Leak would be MUCH higher on my draft board them Troy Smith
#3. If this game were played 10 times, I still think Ohio State would win 7-8 of those.
#4. Where are all the ND bashers...are we going to hear them say that Ohio State did not belong in the BCS, because the scores look....identical?? - rholloway, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7brad b:
OSU got stomped by historic proportions and you're still deluded enough to think you'd beat Flarda 8 out of 10 times? Flarda was the first team OSU played all year, period. I don't think they could have won the Big East. - TNHitokiri, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7Florida definately outplayed OSU, but remember that OSU had 50 days of doing nothing versus floridas 35 days or so. Also OSU's Teddy Ginn got injured. But this isnt enough to justify the blowout by Florida.
The thing about college football is the inconsistency of all teams. Florida managed to scrape by South Carolina, but they blew out Ohio St. Personally, I think the SEC is overrated. While Florida and Auburn beat both Ohio St and Nebraska, Tennesee and Arkansas lost to Penn St and Wisconsin.
College football needs a playoff system, bowl games don't mean anything.
If any team deserved to be the national champions, it was most definitely Boise St. - H3LLSL33T, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3This just goes to show go that Darren McFadden deserved the Heisman...
- JoeDiggsIt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5All I know is I live in Tallahassee, FL where Florida State is, I also am an FSU fan, surprisingly there's a lot Gators here in Tallahassee, and school is going to be a living hell.
- mre5765, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The coach of Boise State, Chris Petersen, just said, live, on ESPN/2 that Florida deserves to
be the national champion. He also thanked his dad for the one first place vote in the AP poll.
Keep in mind, as flawed as the BCS is, if it wasn't for the BCS, Boise State would never have had
a shot at Oklahoma in a bowl, and thus this controversy wouldn't exist.
It is good there is this controversey because it shows interested, and eventually there
will a financially viable playoff system.
- biggreensupreme, on 10/12/2007, -13/+53Welcome to the SEC!!
- MrStabby, on 10/12/2007, -7/+72As a die hard Buckeye fan, I admit that we looked like ***** today...
We got outplayed, outmatched, outplayed, and outplayed...
On top of that, we got outplayed...
SEC speed isn't a myth, the extra month off didn't help matters...but that's not even close to making up for a deficit like that... - macmcrae, on 10/12/2007, -24/+26@stabby: OSU was outclassed by a better football team from a much stronger conference. Period. The second best team in the country is from the sec.
- sorgasm, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15@macmcrae
"The second best team in the country is from the sec." And that would be whom? Arkansas? I think I recall them losing to Wisconsin. - ballpeenhammer, on 10/12/2007, -19/+4Second best team? Who's that...Florida?
- macmcrae, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6bwahaha bitter losers.
Judging by osu and michigan's lame performance, vanderbilt comes to mind. - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11LSU. In fact, I think LSU would beat Florida. Being a South Carolina fan, I really didn't want Florida to win this game. Makes it that much harder to recruit against them. But they really did take OSU out behind the wood shed.
- buckynekkid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19He was probably thinking of #2 being LSU, who raped a good Notre Dame team. Auburn beat both Florida and LSU this year, and I'm an AU fan, but I don't think we would have done as well against Ohio and Notre Dame. The SEC was the top to bottom best this year, and anyone who says otherwise should go to rehab.
War Eagle - YoungDeezy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"He was probably thinking of #2 being LSU, who raped a good Notre Dame team."
Notre Dame probably had THE weakest schedule in the nation. They got blew out in their big games. - Scaphist, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Idiot. Do you ever look at the SoS before you run your stupid mouth?
- sinurgy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I think this was a bit of a down year in college football in terms of powerhouse teams. Don't get me wrong, it was an awesome year to watch and very entertaining but there just wasn't that "dominating" team that everyone usually fears. That USC of a couple of years ago, the Miami a couple years before that, the Florida State teams at the turn of the century or the Nebraska juggernaut teams of the mid nineties. There just wasn't anyone like that this year.
OSU seemed vulnerable and Florida just proved they were. However, Auburn proved Florida was vulnerable, LSU proved Auburn was vulnerable, Arkansas proved LSU was vulnerable, USC proved Arkansas was vulnerable, etc. etc. and the only undefeated team played an absolute cake schedule! - diggastank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0@MrStabby
We?! Did you play? - buckynekkid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@sinurgy
Auburn beat LSU. - j37hr0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Auburn "beat" Florida on bad SEC officiating. I'm not an SEC fan, I'm out here in the Mountain West, but you can tell there are certain teams the SEC officials job out since CBS shows SEC games every week.
- Y2JCrisis, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6I'm so tired of hearing about how great the SEC is. Overrated is what they are. They can't go through a season undefeated and people say its because the conference is so tough...
Well look at their bowl games:
Against the big ten, They lost 2/3
Overrated #9 Auburn barely scraped by unranked Nebraska by a field goal.
Arkansas, who rolled through every team in the SEC until after the Big 10's season was already over when they lost to LSU, then Florida in the SEC championship got beat by Big 10 #3 Wisconsin.
And name 1 non-conference regular season away game that the SEC has over any opponent of any significance. The closest is Tennessee's win over Cal at HOME to start the season.
Say what you want about USC, but they went into Arkansas and handed the hogs a spanking. Say what you want about Michigan, but they went into South Bend and beat Notre Dame.
You SEC fans like to say how weak the Big East conference is, but they are the only conference to be 5-0 in bowls this year. - Gargamike, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Heck yes the Big East is 5-0 in bowl games...what would people say if they lost to the likes of ECU and...what was it? Western Central Michigan? Don't get me wrong though, Louisville and WVU are great teams and I was pulling for them.
Remember as well that Arkansas and Auburn played about 7 more ranked teams than their opponents. Did you even watch the LSU/Auburn game at the start of the season? They beat the hell out of each other, their biggest game of the year was two weeks into the season, not in January like Wisconsin. Funny as well how Georgia and South Carolina's victories get skipped over, you are talking all big about beating ECU but South Carolina beating a really good conference champion gets forgotten. I don't know what to say about Tennessee, they just like to lose bowl games...it might be a mental thing like with Alabama. These two schools seem to believe it is the divine will of God for them to win the National Championship every year. I talk to Tennessee fans all the time that complain about Phil Fulmer, but they win at least 8 games every season!
Want to talk about overrated? How about Notre Dame? The only reason they beat a ranked team was because Penn. State got thrown into #24th in the last poll. Other than that they were humiliated by every other ranked team they played. - eric0213, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@macmcrae
I think Florida will have to spend a few more years under Urban Meyer before you can use the term "outclass" with Florida (with Florida being the one doing the outclassing). - wicketr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7The SEC doesn't have to go out of conference to play meaningful games. And we definitely don't have to go on the road to play OOC opponents. So your point is an invalid one. UM win over Notre Dame is stupid. Notre Dame is always way overrated, what Top 10 team have they beaten in the last 5 years? They had one win all year that was against the 4th best Big 10 team. Woopty-Freakin-DOO! The reason other conferences go OOC to play good teams is because their own conference blows. The SEC has 6 teams ranked in the Top 25 right now. 3 in the Top 10. OOC or in conference doesn't matter. It's your overall schedule and every SEC team has played at least two top 10 teams. And as far as Arkansas' loss to USC, they were playing at the beginning of the year in a brand new offense with a guy at QB who was a receiver and without the Heisman contending RB in Darren McFadden. That team at the beginning of the year would have finished with a losing record had things stayed the same way. As proof this is the team that barely squeaked by Vandy and Bama at the beginning of the year. 2 teams that finished with sub .500 records.
I will give the Big East props for going 5-0. However, #16 Rutgers played unranked barely .500 Kansas St. #13 West Virginia played #23 Georgia Tech. #5 Louisville played #15 WAKE FOREST. WAKE FREAKING FOREST! S. Florida played E. Carolina that plays in the worst conference in the nation and they're only the 4th best team in it. And Cincinnati played W. Michigan. 3rd best team in the MAC. HAHA!
The Big East played the favorite in every single game. And usually by a long shot. You want to compare the Big East I'd like to see UL vs FL, WVU vs LSU, Rutgers vs AU, USF vs UArk, UC vs UT. I'd guarantee the SEC would win 4/5 of those games at least. And as far as the two Big 10 wins over SEC teams, Wisconsin (#3 Big 10) who only had one loss all year was playing Arkansas (SEC #4) who had 3 loses. And PSU (#4 Big 10) was playing UT (#5 SEC)!
The SEC usually has to be the underdog (as far as conference standings [ie #3 Big 10 vs #4 SEC, #4 Big10 vs #5 SEC, #3 ACC vs #6 SEC]) in every bowl game because there are not enough teams to spread around in matchups against the other conferences best. - Y2JCrisis, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3SEC always has a ton of ranked teams because the SEC is always overrated and a lot of the voters are SEC guys. Most of them don't even watch the games.
- Y2JCrisis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Wickert,
Where do I start... First, inter-conference play is how you judge conferences against each other. Usually Pac 10 or Big 12 teams cant get through a season undefeated, just like SEC teams can't. That says nothing about their strength of schedule, just that they are all pretty comparable, and are well acquainted enough with each other to know each others strengths and weaknesses.
Second, forget rankings. They are pretty arbitrary. If Auburn played Wake Forest's schedule and came out with the same record, they'd be ranked #3 or something ridiculous like that. Big East Champion Louisville played ACC Champion Wake Forest. It was a great game if you took the time to watch it. Big East #2 West Virginia played ACC #2 Georgia Tech (who was pretty good this year). Also a good game with comparably matched team. Georgia Tech was by no means outmatched, nor was Wake Forest. Cinci vs. Western Michigan wasn't bad. Actually, MAC champion (and Western Michigan rival) Central Michigan's coach during the regular season is Cinci's new coach, and coached the bowl game.
Also, sure SEC has a lot of teams that go to bowl games... that's because the GOOD teams in other conferences don't allow all of the teams in the whole damn conference to go to bowls because they all have enough wins over each other. It seems like the SEC has damn near ten 7 win teams every year because none of them are good enough to actually consistently win. How are you going to have that many Big 10 teams go to bowls when there are only 11 teams, and 3 of them were good enough to come out with 0 or 1 loss and Penn State who better than the rest of the big ten where it could beat all of them pretty solidly, but not against the three big teams afore mentioned. The big 10 has 9 conference games, and if you take away four losses for everyone else, that leaves 5 games for each of the other teams to scrap it out over. In the SEC they all lose 2 games to each other so there is plenty of rooms for 7 win teams. Especially when Florida is scheduling pansy non-conference games, and MSU is scheduling Notre Dame and PITT, and Purdue is scheduling Notre Dame and Hawaii for its non-conference games. (Hawaii is WAC, but take a look at their team this year. They're pretty damn good), and Illinois is playing Rutgers, and Iowa is scheduling Texas, and Ohio State is scheduling Texas, and Minnesota is playing CAL.
The only non-conference games that the SEC played that were of any signifcance were Tennessee vs. Cal, and Arkansas vs. USC. That's it. So they all share mediocre records in a larger conference and damn near everyone gets to go to a bowl game. Big damn deal. In my mind, 4 loss Penn State from the Big Ten beat 3 loss Tennessee from the SEC. And the SEC west champion played Big 10 #3 and got spanked.
And lets look at the SEC's bowl record from the last few years. Last year they went 3-3. The year before they went 3-3. The year before that they went a very above average (for them) 5-2, but the year before that they went 3-4. Yeah look at the complete and utter DOMINANCE over other conferences.

....this is ourrrrrr countryyyyy..... - anachronaut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Funny that you mention that, because I was bemoaning that damn Rock'Em Sock'Em commercial's existence tonight (and during previous games). I don't recall seeing it after the halftime break tonight, but all through the playoffs they've been relentlessly driving that one particular commercial into the ground, with at least one showing per commercial break (and there are a lot of breaks during college games, and moreso in the playoffs). Jeez, did their advertising agency go on a long vacation or what? Minus ten points for spamming.
Oh yeah, and the Big 10 is always overrated. 'Nuff said.

- n00bst3r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Actually, there was no official vote by any Buckeye to decide who played for the national championship.
- gaoshan, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5Florida played the best they possibly could. OSU played the worst they possibly could. Had OSU played liked they did in every other game this past season, Florida would have been sucking hind tit.
- LordOfTheSponge, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9gaoshan - face Oh St got their ass whooped by a better team.
If you they play ten time in a row Fl wins 8 of them. It was like watching mighty ND get stomped by LSU.

- LarianLeQuella, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I'd have to say it was a horrible game. With FL dominating like they were, only the frst play was worthy of a good game, after that it was nearly a forgone conclusion as to who the winner was going to be...

- feeser, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20haha speaking of which, did you or anyone else see the UF commercial where everyone was saying "Go Gators...Go start a Fortune 500 company...Go cure cancer...Go Gators" to one another? I wanted to hear someone say "Go ***** yourself"
- coldphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Actually after seeing that commercial, I instantly thought SNL skit written all over it. "Go to hell!"
- Jwzupancic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22Speaking of which, according to great god Wikipedia.."Florida ranked second among all institutions in the number of National Merit Scholar students enrolled, behind Harvard."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Florida
So you're excuse fails. Good day. - Niten, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Yeah, too bad UF doesn't have a nationally ranked college of engineering or anything like that. Or the second highest number of National Merit scholars of any institution. Yeah, that would really be nice.
Edit: Yeah, what Jwzupanicic said
(And for the record, it's become a common meme at UF to mock one of the actors in the original version of that advertisement, a man with a particularly effeminate rendition of "Go Gators...") - lemenhir, on 10/12/2007, -15/+6Oh, wait. You forgot the rest of the Wikipedia article. It goes on:

- feeser, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21it was supreme satisfaction for me to see Troy Smith sacked so many times
- NeilieN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22I am a big SEC fan and glad to see the game's result, but Troy Smith is a great player and a stand up guy. I hate to see him end his college career like this.
- feeser, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9it's true enough that he's a talented athlete, but I was just so tired of hearing him compared to VY. Smith couldn't pull it off like Vince did when Texas came from behind.
I'm probably biased because I'm a Texas student, but it got old fast hearing everyone talk about how Smith is better than Vince was. - MrStabby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9In all fairness, I never once heard a comparison of Troy to Vince...maybe in character, but not as a player...
And I live and breathe SC and ESPN in general... - feeser, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I heard it all the time here in Austin, but probably just because the city still has an ear for anything "Vince". His Titans jersey is apparently the top selling NFL jersey in Austin, which says a lot for a state with two NFL teams...

- gaoshan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Well... winning 1 game out of 3 versus the Big 10 doesn't exactly make the SEC into much of anything. Florida has bragging rights but the SEC in general was bitch slapped by the Big 10.
- buckynekkid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I hardly consider 17-14 (Wisc/Ark) and 20-10 (Penn/Tenn) "bitch slapped". The SEC was 6-3 overall, and that includes a national title. The reality is the Big Ten's best couldn't beat the SEC's best (or probably their #2 LSU either).

This is a joke right? The S.E.C. is almost always called the best conference. I do agree though, that the BIG11 is waaaayyyy over-hyped. - gaoshan, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3The Big 10 owned the SEC throughout the BCS. The one, single victory over the Big 10 was Florida. Every other matchup between the two conferences ended with the SEC getting completely raped. Florida may be good but the rest of ya'll may as well start playing touch football. Deal with it rednecks.
- greepoman, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4The Big Ten owned the SEC???? Two wins, by not a very large margin over inconsistent SEC teams (Arkansas was still close with an absolutely horrible quarterback). FL and LSU blew out their opponents in bowl games...and no SEC team got beaten very badly. Can you say the same for the Big Ten?? Their supposed best 2 teams got handled.
- naiku, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Arkansans vs Wisconsin. i wouldn't call that "rape" They stopped Darren McFadden who lead Arkansans all year, so they had to resort to a crappy pass offense.
penn state beat a over rated Tennessee.
Florida Beat Ohio State.
Sure Big10 did beat the SEC teams, 2-1 but Florida IS the national champions. They embarrassed Ohio State. UF completely dominated that game.
Please don't try and tell me Michigan(#2 BigTen) who lost to OSU and USC is better then LSU w/ JaMarcus Russell.
#1 UF
#2 USC
#3 LSU - junkyblake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Wisc beat ark and penn beat tenn, but if you shifted ND out of the equation and lined up team for team LSU would destroy Wisc, and Ark would smoke Penn.

In both the AP and Coaches Polls, everyone cast their first place vote for Ohio State - and they were ALL WRONG. Based on that result alone, you cannot assume at all that Florida was the first OR second best team. Boise State overcame every challenge this season - both Florida and Ohio State failed. Boise State also proved their superiority by defeating teams that defeated the so-called "championship contenders". No one beat Boise State, period.- derlavai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Im an Arkansas fan but Florida did beat us. So teh AR>FL doesnt really go here.
- ousthouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Arkansas didn't beat Florida (Auburn did).
- derlavai, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0and AR beat Auburn. What a circle.
- darkspire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I attend a WAC school, and frankly while Boise State is a good school, with a good football team, their schedule is incredibly weak. They won their bowl game, barely, and with a lot of trick plays. Yes they still won, but there is no evidence that they would have stood a chance against either Ohio State or Florida or even LSU. Now, the WAC was better this year, Nevada nearly pulled off the win against Miami, but that was a very weak Miami team. I think everyone's said it enough though, Boise won't get any respect until they play a tougher schedule.
- dak1486, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Boise State was fun to watch, but let's be honest with ourselves here - they played nobody. They would have been raped by either of the teams that played today.
- buckynekkid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If Auburn, being in the SEC, can go undefeated and still get snubbed come championship time due to "weak schedule", then honestly what chance do you think some WAC team has of EVER being in the BCS championship?
- hartley, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1@bucky
Auburn wasn't undefeated... they lost to Arkansas.
Also the Florida Auburn lost was one of Floridas best games. Did any of you watch it??? You cant tell me there weren't any crappy calls against the Gators.
Not to mention playing Auburn in Auburn after a lost would be the hardest game for any team. *Auburn was #2 before they lost to Arkansas.* - publius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@hartley
He was talking about the 2004 season where Auburn played their tough SEC schedule, went 13-0, and still didn't get a shot at the National Championship. - r00ts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"I attend a WAC school, and frankly while Boise State is a good school, with a good football team, their schedule is incredibly weak. Did you even watch the game? Boise completely DOMINATED the Sooners until they made a couple of (understandable) rookie mistakes and then still managed to take the game. In my book, "barely won" and "nearly lost" hold two completely different meanings.

- xigxag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I mean what's worse:
having more time to rest and recover from injuries
or
playing an extra game against the other top team from your conference, with the chance of injuring key players or losing a conference championship game that the Big 11 doesn't believe in - hartley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ zigzag

- extremophile, on 10/12/2007, -12/+0football is a homosocial fertility envy ritual. how?
the unfertilized "egg" is mock-ovulated by the center who is "mounted" by the quaterback in a symbolic act of copulation. the egg is then thrown, or ejaculated, to a "tight end" or maybe a "loose end" and "carried to term" into the end zone for the touchdown. this represents the fertilized egg attaching to the womb, mother earth, in general. the "baby" is then birthed by flying through the goalposts, which essentially represent the vaginal wall, and the cycle of life is completed.

- triplec76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm as big a fan of OSU as anyone else and this was just a pure embarrassment of what this team had to offer. It looked to me like there weren't too many adjustments being made for this Florida defense absolutely raping the OSU line and Troy Smith. You can't complete a 20 yard pass when the receivers can't make it 10 yards before you are eating turf. It looked like 4 quarters that were exactly the same. So if you want my summary: Outcoached.
- bigp3rm, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4Boise State Broncos should be number one.

- Brss45, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1I'm an OSU fan, and I'll admit that we did play poorly.
Troy Smith has been playing worse and worse. It seems like every game he's making more mistakes. Clearly OSU has proven that they are a great, hard working team, but tonight they just seemed to give up, like they didn't want it. Florida did want that win. They just wanted it more. Statistically speaking, OSU should have won. Florida played like a football team at a real game, specifically a season-ender, while OSU gave up barely into the second quarter and never came back.
(Besides, most OSU fans have been getting a bit big-headed, so an occasional loss to put the fear of God into them is always nice.
