Dora Explorer toy for ages 5+ looks more like ages 18+ toy
gizmodo.com — Amazon is selling this "interactive pet" for children but it looks like another kind of interactive toy bought by lonely grownups or couples who wants to spice up their after hours. Didn't anyone involved in the process of manufacturing this toy realize that the design is inappropriate.

- pjsson, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Also available as a Sponge Bob model for little boys I assume, which is then just gay.
- LiquidPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You do realize that a five year old isn't going to make the connection between a Dora toy seen from a certain angle and male anatomy? They know something is there, but they're too young to really make the connection an 18+yr old would.
- pjsson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3It's most likely not a child who will purchase the toy, but an adult who will make the connection and for some reason still thinks its suitable as a child toy.
- justoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Fun for the young and old.
- dharh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3But um. It is suitable for children. Just because adults have some stupid idea that it looks like a penis doesn't mean its going to corrupt the child. It's adults being stupid.
- invader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1> "for some reason still thinks its suitable as a child toy."
are you implying that it's not? your only argument for such a case is that an *adult* would draw a link between the shape of the toy and a part of a mammal's anatomy. you may not understand this profound concept, but children do not see things in the same light as adults. two reasons: 1.) much less likely to have seen the male's anatomy (especially from that angle :P) and 2.) because children's minds are not sexually driven like most adults, they are less prone to deduct a sexual resemblance from something.
case in point:
look up rorschach tests given to adults and children that featured, for *example* a blot that resembles dolphins to some people and naked women to other people. i saw this one several years ago, and no matter which the subject sees, it takes several minutes of consciously searching for the other image (as in being told it's there, and still not see it) to actually see it. statistics showed that 100% of children under 12 (IIRC) saw dolphins, which somewhere between 75% and 95% of adults saw naked women.
