Video of the motorized R2-D2 projector in action (omg)
gizmodo.com — "We knew that there was a motorized, fully-articulated R2-D2 projector with built-in DVD, iPod dock, all kinds of digital media inputs, and Millennium Falcon remote control, but we never —EVER—imagined it would be so amazingly drooltastic as this video shows." I can't believe this. *must*resist*buying*impulse*

- HonoredMule, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2It's not Digg's rating system, it's the power of Engadget's marketing posse spamming diggs for their submissions.

- sekander94, on 05/02/2008, -3/+1Yes. Starwars got it wrong. They must have never bothered to check the script.
- shakbhaji, on 05/02/2008, -1/+1parseconds?
- Scrigel, on 05/02/2008, -0/+0The sec part of parsec refers to an arcsecond, 1/1296000 the way around a circle.

- Scrigel, on 05/02/2008, -0/+0The sec part of parsec refers to an arcsecond, 1/1296000 the way around a circle.
- squirrel611, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3They didn't get it wrong, read AnotherBrian's wiki link.
- BryanG412, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3no Star Wars got it right. Because of the strength of the gravitational field at a distance of 12 parsecs, a ship's ability to overpower the field and escape is very impressive.
- Coven, on 05/02/2008, -1/+51She may not look like much but she's got it where it counts.
- Coven, on 05/02/2008, -0/+39For a while there was a kid's version of this that only projected 640x480. I'm glad to see they finally put out a higher definition model. Too bad it'll cost me damn near 3 months rent. ***** Lucas.
You know what George, here's my credit cards, bank accounts, savings bonds, just take it all...- maxthreepwood, on 05/02/2008, -2/+8Maybe everyone can pay the projector by selling all the VHS and DVD versions of Star Wars that Lucas have sold to people during the last three decades. But then you will get the Complete Enhanced Star Wars Special BLU-RAY Package... which will require R2-D2 HD.

- bouche, on 05/02/2008, -2/+14why aren't the projecting star wars? How do they expect you to drive it around when you have it hooked up by cables to your sound system?
- Milburnss, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3Right on, my thoughts exactly!
- conwayblue, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3I think it has its own sound system. lame
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4It has it's own virtual surround sound but I'm guessing if you wanted to you can hook up your own setup if you want. Personally I'm not an audiophile and would be fine with R2's sound system lol
- mikoto1610, on 05/09/2008, -0/+1If you look at the stats page on the Nikko website, or listen to the video commentary, you'll see that it uses wireless connections to hook up to your home theater kit. No need to worry about unsightly wires, Wi-Fi and wireless do the job for you. Notch one on the design post for Nikko! :o)
- Milburnss, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3Right on, my thoughts exactly!
- flipmeat, on 05/02/2008, -1/+12It can't show me a movie and go get me a beer at the same time. And good luck aligning it to the wall for proper projection with the RC function. A good robot would do that by itself. I'll be watching for next year's model...
- keitarofujiwara, on 05/02/2008, -7/+8From now on I'm a officially a Star Wars fan... Truly fascinated.
- rentmitchum, on 05/02/2008, -1/+10If this is what it took to make you a Star Wars fan, kill yourself. That or go rent the movies for christ's sake.

- vibrokatana, on 05/02/2008, -0/+16Actually it can, but the X-wing can't make a jump to hyperspace unless it already has the calculations.
- rentmitchum, on 05/02/2008, -0/+6Your nerd powers are overwhelming.

- R0l0, on 05/02/2008, -1/+6Nice toy and all, but I'm sure it doesn't compare to any real projectors in that price range.
- theaceoffire, on 05/02/2008, -0/+5The point isn't to have a projector.
Now I need a tiny, roomba version to take care of vacuuming.- rentmitchum, on 05/02/2008, -0/+10That one could look like the "Holy ***** it's Chewbacca run the ***** away!" robot on the Death Star.

- RyanB18, on 05/02/2008, -10/+5I"m captain of the Millennium falcon, Chewy here tells me you're looking for passage to the alderaan system.
If it's a fast ship.
Hah, fast ship, you've never heard of the Millennium Falcon, it's the ship that made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs, she's fast enough for you, old man - corvin, on 05/02/2008, -9/+14That's awesome
but....
can it blend?- Kennerk, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3i wouldn't want it to blend, hopefully it would fry the blender!

- Kennerk, on 05/02/2008, -1/+3that could definitely be misconstrued....
- antdude, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2Does he/she(woah) let you play with it?
- XenoSNK, on 05/02/2008, -0/+16Well... time to start saving my money...
R2-D2 fund: 3 dollars, and if I don't eat lunch tomorrow, make that 7.- cinder, on 05/02/2008, -0/+1The Nerd Diet. I sense a book and an Oprah appearance.
- PHiZ187, on 05/02/2008, -2/+5Meh the remote movement functionality is a bit unrealistic. Because, in order for it to be useful as a projector, it is going to need to be cabled to a source. Now, if it had some kind of 802.11 streaming, that would be a step in the right direction. Oh, and i wonder what the battery life is like when it is not plugged in and operating its projector... So, in all, it is neat, but it is going to be a stationary device.
- dudefaceguyman, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2It has a lotta space for packing some big batteries..I'm curious too though.
- DannySpace, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3Good thing I keep my Credit Card around for Emergencies only.
- luke374, on 05/02/2008, -0/+21What? No hologram support?

- woofers07, on 05/02/2008, -0/+5I've never been much of a star wars geek, but that was pretty effin cool.

- RavenG4, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Oh my lord. I want this, NOW.
- theeddyadams, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3So how's the battery life?!
- wc3452, on 05/02/2008, -0/+5it runs on 30 AAA batters and one C battery.
- windohs, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3I'd love to see a blu-ray drive in that thing.
- xxgigavirusxx, on 05/02/2008, -1/+2I bet u the projection quality and size it probably exaggerated quite a bit

- Chordinator, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4FINALLY! I do believe this is the first-ever useful droid available to our galaxy.
- zakatov, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3Why in the world would you put an S-video plug on it? Boggles my mind
- AnotherBrian, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Why not? It's probably part of the off the shelf projector they stuffed in there. Most projectors have them.
- iCanHasUsername, on 05/02/2008, -0/+5I'd have to make a looped dvd of "Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope"
- cutevie, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2Ho ***** =O
I wants one, seriously. - Blyzzerd, on 05/02/2008, -0/+4It's time like these I wish I was Kevin so I could afford 3, for good measure. Screw car and house payments, I'M BUYING ONE so when I'm the street, I'll the coolest stabbin' hobo around.
