10 Awesome Things About Dungeons & Dragons
laughingsquid.com — Sean Kelly has started playing the original Dungeons & Dragons again (pen & paper version) and he recently sent out his list of 10 Awesome Things About D&D:
- 682 diggs
- digg it
- zoziw, on 01/03/2008, -7/+19This reminds me of my very first BD&D character, a 1st level magic-user with 3 hp, a dagger and one spell...read magic. The first adventure I went on was B2 The Keep on the Borderlands (what the heck is a Kobold?). Actually, my magic-user's name was zoziw (my digg username) which I created by shortening the Wizard of Oz to Wizoz and spelling it backwards. Ah, the good old days.

1)Alignment Arguments
2)Grappling
3)Finding out that that crystal black ball was an orb of annihilation and your level 20 wizard just got annihilated
4)*DM gives long description* "Wait what? I zoned out sorry"
5)Alignment Arguments
6)Attacks of Opportunity.
7) Being released shortly after 3.0 making everyone rebuy books
8)The DMG2 sucking so much
9)Power gaming with so many different rulebooks (Book of Exalted Deeds anyone?)
10) Re-explaining complex rules for the billionth time.- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -2/+6I still refuse to accept Second Edition.

- mikelieman, on 01/03/2008, -0/+11I hear tell that you can find the Chainmail books, D&D and AD&D 1st edition books on this newfangled thing called "The Torrent" or some such thing...
I expect, to some, that might be a little stroll down memory lane...- phlux, on 01/03/2008, -2/+4What a terrible rumor you wretched slime of a gully dwarf.
*kicks @mikelieman back into the gutter*
Now, next time you ask for 3 copper in exchange for information, I suggest you check you facts.
/saunters back into the tavern for some *real* intel.... - so1omon, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3I still have my originals... Chainmail, the original, small book D&D books, and a metric ton of 1st edition AD&D books. Those were good times.

- sturdiusmaximus, on 01/03/2008, -7/+1512. Not showering for a week, but having nobody notice because the people you are playing with smell just as bad.
- albinorhino101, on 01/03/2008, -5/+2but they do pay for countless girlie movies
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 01/03/2008, -3/+8Just like all gamers don't have girl friends right? Gods thats tired. I play D&D with: A guy with a fiance, said guys fiance, a single guy, a married women, said married womens husband, a single girl, a guy who is currently dating. If you going to mock a group of people, at least do it in an original OR accurate way, hey maybe even both.
- DrMonkeyLove, on 01/03/2008, -2/+7Remember though, ugly girls don't count...
Seriously, it was a joke. Lighten up.- dead777, on 01/03/2008, -1/+2Yeah man, the only problem is you gotta watch out for her pussy troll, Pillow Pants.
- Coffeedemon, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3My friend and party member's wife brings over vachon cakes and candies when we play.

- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -2/+50If you're under 30, this list might not mean that much to you.
If you grew up as a geek in the '80s, though, ok - the list is still kinda lame. But the sentiment is right on.
I'll be the first geek and put my personal top ten, in no order at all:
1. D4, D6, D8, D10, D12, D20... D100!
2. Sending away for a sketch of your character from some ad in the back of Dragon magazine
3. The comics in Dragon magazine - Phil & Dixie FTW
4. The ridiculously dense tables and rules in the first edition Dungeon Master's Guide
5. Arguing encumbrance rules and spot checks with the DM in the middle of a battle
6. Creating your own module and finding out your friends actually liked it
7. Trying to get some fantasy booty for your fantasy character in the local tavern
8. Gaming for over 24 hours straight at any ___Con
9. Weekends (ok, study halls) spent making maps of dungeons, towns, castles and keeps
10. Gaming face to face with the same friends each week- Kronos6948, on 01/03/2008, -0/+12D100="The Golfball!"
- merreborn, on 01/03/2008, -1/+15D100 is for newbs who can't figure out how to use a pair of D10s.
- sensoukami, on 01/03/2008, -1/+6Much as a dislike the word "newb", he does have a point...2 D10 were pretty easy to figure out.
- threemagic, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2The D100 was for the cheaters.. you know the guys who rolled the dice and changed which die they chose to be the 10's...
a red 9 and a blue 3...
ahh a 93!
next roll
red 2 blue 8
NICE.. 82.. I'm on a roll!- mikelieman, on 01/03/2008, -0/+7That's why you use 1D10 TWICE... Of course, then you have to fight the Endian Wars all over again....

- scojerroc, on 01/03/2008, -0/+42 d10 will also stop rolling before the session is over.
- threemagic, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2The D100 was for the cheaters.. you know the guys who rolled the dice and changed which die they chose to be the 10's...

- anagramarama, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3in no particular order? they're numbered man!
- johnny222, on 01/03/2008, -16/+35You accidentally put a 1 at the beginning of the title.
- beanage, on 01/03/2008, -2/+9Dugg for comedic value.
- bluetytanium, on 01/03/2008, -1/+17Although I do not share your viewpoint, that was very clever.
- mattwalton56, on 01/03/2008, -2/+1I see what you did there.
- sensoukami, on 01/03/2008, -0/+9Okay, that was funny, but I suspect you're a dick....
- albinorhino101, on 01/03/2008, -14/+1311.) Playing D&D is the most effective form of contraception
- KRNpro, on 01/03/2008, -2/+3This totally beats abstinence!
- tymme, on 01/03/2008, -0/+11Unless your girlfriend also plays. (Yes, it happens. One cheated on me with the DM... guess I missed my Wis check on that one.)
- Durrok, on 01/03/2008, -0/+5Maybe just spot and listen ;)
- threemagic, on 01/03/2008, -0/+6You can't beat the Charisma of a DM
- mysedai, on 01/07/2008, -0/+0That's only funny because when I played, all three of the DMs I played with were sleeping with the same girl.
I don't know why that made it funnier to me, but it did.`
- KRNpro, on 01/03/2008, -2/+3This totally beats abstinence!
- KillaJazzBass, on 01/03/2008, -18/+311. Not being able to get a date and then masturbating..at age 30. Oh wait thats #1 of the worst things about D&D
- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -3/+11You're posting comments on Digg in the middle of the night. Do you really think you should be talking about anyone's dating habits?
- KillaJazzBass, on 01/03/2008, -14/+1Yes actually! My girlfriend left this afternoon and Im on vacation!! Her names Jen, go to my myspace and check her out.
- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -2/+7Um, that was a joke. Thanks for proving that you have a real girlfriend, though. I'm impressed.
/sarcasm
(in case you needed that) - SiNN4R, on 01/03/2008, -1/+2gay.
- sensoukami, on 01/03/2008, -1/+4Done her. She said you're a lousy lay....
- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -2/+7Um, that was a joke. Thanks for proving that you have a real girlfriend, though. I'm impressed.
- KillaJazzBass, on 01/03/2008, -14/+1Yes actually! My girlfriend left this afternoon and Im on vacation!! Her names Jen, go to my myspace and check her out.
- Halsfield, on 01/03/2008, -1/+4oh noz ive played dnd and ive had sex with a girl, your reality must really be unraveling around you. also, stalking a girl on myspace, looking at all of her pics of her posing for her real boyfriend and pretending its you, does not make her your girlfriend... =(
12. no one crying at this dude's funeral
13. bugbears, sneaky bastids. - KillaJazzBass, on 01/03/2008, -8/+1Hahaha, sure man, wow YOU HAD SEX with a girl and played D&D how many pounds overweight was she? Did you meet her at the Renaissance fair? And yeah believe what you want, thats just why I'm eating dinner with her family tomorrow night ;-)
- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2The only good thing about a Renaissance Fair is....
- threemagic, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3earthy chicks.. I know most geek girls are fat but some of them are earthy chicks.. girls who only eat lettuce, with very nice bodies, praying to some pagan god.. and unlike some girls, they are open to most anything....
- SiNN4R, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Self esteem issues.
- Halsfield, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1halp, dis guy got his comments from google. im sorry this is blowing your mind and causing your brain to meltdown. if you check most dnd groups these days there are girls playing, girls that take good care of themselves, as well as guys that play sports, go outside, and date women. im sure thats gonna leave you laying on your floor contemplating whether or not all black people eat fried chicken still. enjoy the fieldtrip to realityland, its great over here. too bad you cant stay =(
- Ford_Prefect2nd, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Granted, I am currently not dating, but I have had a good number of partners, as do the people I game with. In fact one is married... I guess that means two are married and two are engaged. And guys on the net at 2am have nothing to say about people playing D&D. You don't have to be a nerd, just because you play D&D. I was on the Hockey and Football team at my school at the same time I was introduced to D&D.
- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2The only good thing about a Renaissance Fair is....
- vanbacon, on 01/03/2008, -3/+2It's the end of the movie and it's getting late.
We know that you didn't come here with a date.
You'll probabily go home and masterbate.
- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -3/+11You're posting comments on Digg in the middle of the night. Do you really think you should be talking about anyone's dating habits?
- D3koy, on 01/03/2008, -1/+16I regret never playing D&D, but I could never find anyone to play with...At least I had Warhammer :)
- wellyuk, on 01/03/2008, -15/+5I regret never playing D&D, but I could never find anyone to play with...At least I have a *****.
- vanbacon, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Ahh There there poopy You'll regret it after abother 10 years when you develope AIDS.
- Spoomeister, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2That's a great trick. The only places I've ever seen Warhammer played was in the back third of comic and gaming shops, next to the bulletin boards with little index cards with "looking for players for such-and-such campaign" on them.
- wellyuk, on 01/03/2008, -15/+5I regret never playing D&D, but I could never find anyone to play with...At least I have a *****.
- diskit, on 01/03/2008, -16/+3...Increases your chances of getting laid.
OH WAIT- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -1/+2I bet theres a spell for that, sadly females Ogres aren't hot unless you are Shrek.
- innocentsinner, on 01/03/2008, -11/+7Pretty lame list. There should be a rule that any top ten list requires an informative and/or amusing explanation to go with each thing in the list.
- sensoukami, on 01/03/2008, -1/+4If you have to ask, you'll never get it.
- hellotyler, on 01/03/2008, -4/+10This list had a lot of potential but fell so far short....
- cmpalmer, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1The list was mildly amusing, but the comments were better (the one's on the linked site, not the ones here).
- dgh1973, on 01/03/2008, -1/+9I don't know... I was always a bit partial to the basic rule set, it was a lot simpler. I remember having to bookmark the hell out of my ad&d books just to keep track of all the rules. Took a lot of fun out of the game IMHO.
Dugg for nostalgia anyhow. And all you guys cracking wise - you probably play WoW or at least heard of it... it's a distant cousin you know! Not so lame to be "geeky" these days now is it.- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -1/+4I think there were two kinds of pen & dice gamers - the ones that liked the action, and the ones that liked the obscure rules. Sounds like you went more for the gameplay - for some reason I always enjoyed the dense, arcane rules and having dozens of notecards and dogears all over my AD&D books. It made you like half Conan, half Johnnie Cochran. Ok, maybe not even half Conan. But you know what I mean.
- Halsfield, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2they kinda went from simple, to incredibly bloated, to simple, and now they're leaning back towards overly bloated with 3.5. I really couldnt get a steady group of people to play the pen and paper game, but ive had a lot of fun playing with neverwinter night's level designer and their online dungeonmaster/player multiplayer, its not as easy to make a creative and unique world with the level builder, but its nice to have the rules done for you in real time without having to crack open a rulebook everytime to check a spell or a savings throw.
- sensoukami, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1The geek shall inherit the earth!
- D3koy, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3Oh that's nice, they have a hell of a time
- chesscat, on 01/03/2008, -13/+3Number 11? You and your friends don't have to change your underwear for a week. And showering? Fugg-ed-about-it.
- nuclearseraph, on 01/03/2008, -11/+011) Rolling a D20 for size "down there" (if you get a natural 20, you can even use it as a weapon)
12) Making a saving throw for STDs after getting some fantasy poon - beanfeast, on 01/03/2008, -1/+15#1 Vault of the Drow. Damn did I love that module!
In jr high, we used to play every weekend between Rocky Horror and Dr Who. Bonus, was getting tail from my female DM. Take that!- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -8/+1And when she was in a pool did you guys play Pirate Ships? You were the Pirate, she was the Ship?
- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3Wow - I nearly forgot about that one. It's a tossup for me between Vault of the Drow and the first Ravensloft.
Man, it would be fun to get those out again. - tymme, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2S1- Tomb of Horrors. *shudder*
- mysedai, on 01/07/2008, -0/+0I loved Keep on the Edge of the Borderlands and Dragon Mountain. And, yes, I played a character from the lowly Keep all the way to the bad-ass Mountain. I played the same mage for over a year, at least four nights a week. I retired him at 34th level, and our DM wasn't into munchkin gaming. We just played THAT MUCH. :)
- nuclearseraph, on 01/03/2008, -12/+111) Rolling for penis size (if you get a natural 20, you can even use it as a weapon
12) Making saving throws from STDs after getting some fantasy poon - franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -2/+10Ok, how many people have already commented with some variant of "Number 11 - You're a geek with poor hygiene and no girlfriend?"
Before someone else posts a version of that comment yet again, please read the others - your Wildean wit is not as unique as you think.- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -4/+1You play. Don't lie.
- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -0/+4Of course I played AD&D. What do you think I was doing in junior high, going out for football and chasing cheerleaders?
- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -6/+0Hey Big/Ugly Girls need love too!
Thanks D&D players for keeping them off my back! - vanbacon, on 01/03/2008, -0/+5Your very welcome Whores aren't our type Hows Mcdonalds treating you.
- Shirt, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Heh, you can have the skanky cheerleaders. We're speaking based on stereotypes right? What's it like working for the benefit of the geek with the supermodel girlfriend?
- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -6/+0Hey Big/Ugly Girls need love too!
- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -0/+4Of course I played AD&D. What do you think I was doing in junior high, going out for football and chasing cheerleaders?
- KillaJazzBass, on 01/03/2008, -6/+1Stop getting defensive you know its true. Geeks are one thing but hardcore D&D players rank up there with Furries.
- GreyICE, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Hey, congratulations! You made the monster manual, you live under a bridge. Guess that makes you a baby otherkin furry!
- Shirt, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1I seriously don't know that it's true. I played DnD in high school but never experienced any of the stereotypes you people are describing. I was actually the lead guitar player in a band that played at school functions and was quite well-liked. And hell, I even bathed and went on dates quite regularly.
You should stop being offensive because it just makes you sound like a prick.
- chesscat, on 01/03/2008, -6/+1Die nerd boy.
- vanbacon, on 01/03/2008, -0/+410D6 Lightning bolt no saving throw.
- Punisher2K, on 01/03/2008, -5/+1Number 11 - You're a geek with poor hygiene and no girlfriend
- Shirt, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1HILARIUS
- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -4/+1You play. Don't lie.
- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -10/+1Now wheres the 10 reasons the people that play D&D could get beat up by the people that play WoW list?
- tymme, on 01/03/2008, -0/+7That'd require logging off of WoW, so I think we're safe.
- mysedai, on 01/07/2008, -0/+0Wouldn't reasons 1 - 6 have to do with being sat on by a WoW player?
- sensoukami, on 01/03/2008, -1/+17That was the most enjoyable read I've come across on Digg in a long time. Many thanks to the submitter, it put a big smile on my face.
- IheartZombies, on 01/03/2008, -12/+6Warhammer 40K is better. There I said it.
- maxtypezero, on 01/03/2008, -1/+4this blog is really cool
- rob2e, on 01/03/2008, -0/+10D&D is righteous! I played heavily in the 80s sold all my stuff on eBay in like 1997 for $500+ (including original monster manal that had those two they were forced to take out), and now I'm considering getting the new 4.0 stuff this spring. Good times!
- KillaJazzBass, on 01/03/2008, -1/+1Nice profit dude
- Ellipsys, on 01/03/2008, -2/+4Two they were forced to take out? Was there some sort of enchanted negro, or similar politically incorrect monster?
- vanbacon, on 01/03/2008, -2/+2Ugg why did you have to invoke racism No I believe it was They took out the part about demons to appease Whiny bitch christians.
- tymme, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3IIRC, it was renaming a few monsters due to copyright issues (Cthulu and one other demon).
- TikiGawd, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1The Balrog.
- TikiGawd, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2That was second edition.
- tymme, on 01/03/2008, -0/+3IIRC, it was renaming a few monsters due to copyright issues (Cthulu and one other demon).
- vanbacon, on 01/03/2008, -2/+2Ugg why did you have to invoke racism No I believe it was They took out the part about demons to appease Whiny bitch christians.
- Nick22, on 01/03/2008, -0/+18The "zomg dnd playerz get noe poon 0r grls!!1!" comments on here are pretty weak. Its a pretty lame stereotype. My group of friends that I play with, 3/5 of them have girlfriends, and all 3 get laid. And none of us are the stereotypical nerdy antisocial loser kids that most people think play DnD
- KillaJazzBass, on 01/03/2008, -0/+4fair enough
- Nick22, on 01/03/2008, -2/+2Note though that Im not one of those 3, and 2 out of those 3 have creepy/ugly girfriends haha
- threemagic, on 01/03/2008, -1/+1Personality seems to be lost on you.. please re-roll.
- KillaJazzBass, on 01/03/2008, -1/+7I guess even 20 years later D&D Fans still get made fun of :.(
- arsoneffect, on 01/03/2008, -1/+1And the day you tell your grandkids you played D&D, expect to go from "Most Awesome Grandpa" to "Old Guy in Retirement Home Wearing a Kilt That Is Somehow Related To Us"
- Shirt, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Actually that's not necessarily true. I played DnD with friends in high school and never experienced any of these stereotypes people talk about. I was pretty social though, there were a few people that I played with that didn't get out much. I was a paintball referee for like 3 years (I still go back to work at big scenario events, and the owners of that place are like my second family) and my boss's son was sort of that way, but even he was active and in decent shape. I was the lead guitar player in a band that was pretty popular at school, so my social status was never really in jeopardy because I doubled as a geek. Hell, there were several people that played with us from the popular crowd. I was never in with preps or anything, but really the group of people that would be considered nerdy was extremely large at our school. Honestly, the group where I went to school that replaced nerds was the little hippy/emo kids.
- iamsocruel, on 01/03/2008, -0/+4i still want to be a barbarian mage!!!!!! damn, they never would let me do that....that or have a vorpal +5
- sensoukami, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Mike, is that you? My friend was always bitching about wanting to be a barbarian and use magic...it got annoying.
- proton, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2It's called multiclassing - you've been able to do that for 10 years or more?
- PabloIV, on 01/03/2008, -0/+4Never did play D&D, but I did find myself a nice sized crew for Rifts from Palladium books. I loved that game, we played for hours. Anyone else?
- tightscrummy, on 01/03/2008, -1/+1No.
- Halsfield, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1knew about it, knew people that played it, but never got into it. Interesting storyline , interesting rulesets, but never got to play it. tightscrummy needs a hug i guess.
- iamsocruel, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1yeah i played it a couple of times. i was some sort of cyborg with sionic powers or something. i didn't really care for it all that much though

- franklymister, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Wow, a picture of some people having a good time. Oh, the shame!
- muskawo, on 01/03/2008, -0/+8This just makes me miss d&d. I sill have my dice at home... wonder if I can find anyone nerdy enough to play?
- JohnFrum, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Dig the dice back out man and head to your local game store. Any town I've ever lived in there was game store with a D&D open play list.
- mysedai, on 01/07/2008, -0/+0Yeah, but if you're a female gamer, you're screwed. Most guys won't chance that a chick who wants to play is as serious about her gaming as they are.

- MattDavis, on 01/03/2008, -1/+11I LOVED D&D... it was THE best night of the week (Sunday) when we got together in one of our dining rooms, ate chips and drank Mello Yellow while fighting off Bugbears... right up until THE DAY I first kissed a girl. That was it, D&D just faded away into the murky past along with Dr. Who and StarBlazers. (sigh)
I'm not sad... really... the girls were better. But sometimes I wished you could base dating on some sort of turn based mating system.- blackjack75, on 01/03/2008, -1/+2Turn-based mating system? Just get into a street gang.
- tdous, on 01/03/2008, -2/+5I hate automatic cries of blogspam simply because a "story" is a blogpost but come on.... There is almost no substance at all to this entire blog. Ad-click friendly and that's all.
- xlar54, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Wizards should re-release the BD&D sets. I still have all of them except the immortal set. Guess its not that immortal... Man those were good days.
- pulphero, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Here is something close to it. It is a cool use of the Open Game License

- pitlord, on 01/03/2008, -0/+5I wish I still had my original AD&D Monster Manual. Ah, those were the days.
Now, if I could only beat Maat with my Red Mage.
~^- Nick519, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2if you knew how much the original printing of the MM was worth, you'd be even more sad about not having it.
- anagramarama, on 01/03/2008, -0/+4it's funny that he felt he had to say "pen and paper version", oh how times change...
- usafdave, on 01/03/2008, -0/+10Dammit... I know what all of that means.
- threemagic, on 01/03/2008, -2/+2If your comment was a die roll, it'd be a perfect 20!

- Halsfield, on 01/03/2008, -3/+1this seem like a random list of dnd related things to anyone else? wasnt really the things i remembered the best, or things i would think of that other people might remember, and definitely not the "awesome" things about dnd.
- JohnFrum, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Fine gauntlet you've thrown down there. So, what would be on your list?

9) The fantasies in D&D are better than any fantasy you can ever dream of.
8) In case you're a vampire you're safe from the sun. If not, you're still safe from the sun!
7) YAAAWEAAAAW I just got the Sword of Alganor! 30d50 AHHHH!!!!
6) No one will ever ask you where you were last night, much less what you did.
5) It's 100s of times better than your real life.
4) Your mom's basement strangely resembles a dungeon!
3) You'll be one of the only people to understand what the new D&D movie is about.
2) Friends, job, school, girls, and having a life are totally outrated! D&D Forever!
1) You never have to worry about condoms, STDs, or planned/unplanned Pregnancies.
-----1a) If by some freak of nature it does happen, you can give the little bastard a stupid name, ensuring he'll get laughed at so much he'll resort to playing D&D.- vanbacon, on 01/03/2008, -1/+1Man That's How I wanna Liove I was thinking of the coolest names to name my son if I ever have one.

- hoopers, on 01/03/2008, -0/+12GenCon (29,000 attendees last I knew). Currently held in Indianapolis around Mid August. If you are into games (board, miniature, card, role-play, computer, live...whatever) this is the best 4 days of gaming (Sorry, their tag line). Plus Indy is cool. Good food, nice hotels, clean, easy to get around.
For the haters: Because sports fans are so different from D&D players? Really? Are you sure? Are you really sure?- Punisher2K, on 01/03/2008, -0/+7Fantasy Football is D&D for people who used to beat up the kids that played D&D.

- mynameisjonas, on 01/03/2008, -0/+7I love DnD! Its one of those things that unless you play you really dont get how much fun it can be. I remember all those long day/night sessions playing with friends, wolfing down pizza and soda, rolling dice hoping to get lucky on a tough battle or of course the natural 20s. I really didnt like 3.5 it dumbed down the system so much. AD&D is still my favorite but it is a pain in the ass, it took forever to create a character, but i loved how detailed everything was at the end of the day. I still play with my friends once in a while and its still fun, but now we drink beer or jack daniel's, ha ha. Actually I think I need to call some friends, I gotta find my dice :)
- raleel, on 01/03/2008, -0/+6Am I the only person who actually remmebered that treasure type Q was pretty good and (IIRC) included a lot of magic items?
- grimhammer00, on 01/03/2008, -1/+2I vividly remember watching my Halfling Theif go from level 4 to level 12 in one session solely because somewhere in the DM's Guide first edition it mentions 1xp per 1gold piece....I waited for the Green Dragon to leave his roost during a DM made adventure, and sat on his horde and said "mine, mine, mine" - Whether the rules were meant to be abused like that wasn't my concern at the time...just give me the freaking money! (Incidentally the Green Dragon wasn't ever going to come back in that game session as our group was level 4-7....but we were supposed to get robbed once we left the lair with the loot...unfortunately for the NPC theives...we were now a party to be reckoned with!)
- Stealer, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2that's why there is a rule that you cannot gain more than ONE level per session !!! :P
- grimhammer00, on 01/03/2008, -1/+0Yeah, true...but we waived that rule since it meant that if we played from when we were 14 to lets say, 19...factoring in life and girlfriends...we'd be level 7. That was boring since we all wanted to play using the outer realms book with all the cool Astral beings and demons.
Which reminds me...did you ever play D&D Immortals...that was fun for a diversion.
