Dear Digg: Please Do Something About Destructoid's Cheaters [PIC]
discussnothing.com — I've had enough of Destructoid's cheating. It angers me in knowing how they can make a quick buck just by "using" Digg's traffic. I mean, just look at this image I've conducted. They use their staff members to quickly Digg up a newly submitted article so it gains popularity. Take a look at their profiles, they Digg ONLY Destructoid articles.
- 5109 diggs
- digg it
- Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -27/+473Seriously, I submit stuff from my own site, and some might not like it, but for cryin out loud I dont get dozens of people to digg my stories so they get onto the frontpage, I just hope that the digg community will do that for me.
Boycott destructoid, the only reason they are such a big site is because of their articles constantly getting on the digg front page. Bury any of their stuff that gets to the front page and report them to digg- understudy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+133This speaks to a much larger problem on digg.
_- Homunculiheaded, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32What drives me crazy is that it really shouldn't be all that hard to create an algorithm that flags suspected spam based on the relationships between the user who digg it. You wouldn't even have to check every article, just set a rule that says when one site reaches the front page x times in y time begin logging the relationships between it's users. I mean I can see that for a one person site this would be a big project, but for a site as large as digg with as much at stake you think they'd just sit some engineers in a room and a rough solution could be hammered out in an hour. If you can tell simply by looking at articles you should be able to create an algorithm that at least rates the likelihood of an article being spam.
- tkotam, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8I think your method has a flaw because all it needs is for 20-30 people to start digging the article to "heat it up" and by the time it heats up, I am sure the rest of the dumb diggers like me will take care of the rest of the work..
- mdhauke, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4This is no different than the people who do it for the moveon.org, rawstory.com, and thinkprogress.org stories.
- yongjoon, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Dear Digg: Please Do Something About moveon.org, rawstory.com, and thinkprogress.org Cheaters
- GaidinTS, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13I wouldn't say it's a problem with Digg, I'd say it's a problem with Democracy. Power in numbers. If more users actually participate in Digg rather than just browse it, then a website would need massive numbers of employees digging to make any difference.
- EntangledPhysx, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17Except that stories that get 10,000 diggs will barely make it to the front page, yet one with only 47 diggs will make it to the front page all day. Democracy? eh...
- EntangledPhysx, on 10/10/2007, -11/+3OK, I clicked the submit buttom once.. wtf?
- PasteEater, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Well, the problem with your idea is that this site has now become two things:
1) A place to personally bookmark interesting websites
and
2) A place to promote the "Digg community's" ideas to a prominent place for all to see
An example: let's say that according to Fox News, Dick Cheney declares that Elton John is his lover. (This is *very* true, according to my sources). The Fox News story hits the "Upcoming Stories" section of Digg. If you are interested, you have two choices: Digg because you want people to know about it (promote it to the front page), or Digg because you want to be able to reference this article quickly, by looking through your Dugg articles.
Long story short, I use this site to bookmark things. If I Dugg every article that I personally agreed with, I'd have way too much ***** to go through. - Disparity, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1test
- Disparity, on 01/08/2008, -0/+1a
- MatttK, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2The "digg this" button on everyone's sites is really what's doing it. It means that sites with a high number of digg users will always be more popular. There are a lot of digg users on destructoid, so their articles will alwys end up on the front page. I prefer to use digg from digg, not as an "I approve this article I'm already reading" tool.. thingy..
- Homunculiheaded, on 10/10/2007, -1/+32What drives me crazy is that it really shouldn't be all that hard to create an algorithm that flags suspected spam based on the relationships between the user who digg it. - TheTaoOfBill, on 10/10/2007, -72/+16Looks like the digg mob is out to lynch someone again. If you don't like destructoid articles then bury them. That's the beauty of digg. Every article is community inspired and we have the power to digg and bury for whatever reason. Even if that reason is just because your friend wrote it.
If you ask me they are quality well written articles that deliver interesting view points on video games and technology. No I do not work for destructoid. hell I'm not even a member of the site. But I have never seen an article from their site that was of low quality. That is why they get dugg up. They write high quality articles and they have plenty of friends on digg. Digg encourages digging friends by giving us friend lists in the first place. There is nothing wrong with what they are doing and you guys are just out to lynch another person because someone on your magic window to the internets told you to.- AlmostEvil, on 10/10/2007, -4/+56It's not so much a lynch mob as destructoid are manipulating digg in order to make money. Don't you think that's wrong?
Any sites which are purposefully trying to manipulate digg to get to the front page should simply be blacklisted by digg, so any stories submitted which link to their site doesn't get posted. That simple.- lazyrussian, on 10/10/2007, -45/+6No, I don't. They're playing the game with Digg's own rules. Kudos to them for finding the loopholes and exploiting them.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -24/+8I agree with this 100%. That's simply the law of the jungle. Lawful Evil alignment FTW.
- TheTaoOfBill, on 10/10/2007, -19/+7If they keep up the quality articles then they deserve to make money. I enjoy reading their articles. I say whatever they can do within the rules to make money is okay with me.
- Inverno, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2I have to agree with TTOB here. A lot of their content is decent if not good. If the content starts to slip then they get buried more.
- lazyrussian, on 10/10/2007, -45/+6No, I don't. They're playing the game with Digg's own rules. Kudos to them for finding the loopholes and exploiting them.
- Nitrodist, on 10/10/2007, -30/+7Then bury the stories. It's as simple as that.
- tekium, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14The truly ironic aspect of it is...if the diggers who typically dig/bury stories without reading them agree with this post, they can almost instantly defeat destructoid's use of digg as a marketing tool by burying any destructoid article without actually reading it. Don't RTA FTW.
- s1mph0ny, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2turn about's fair play.
- CrazyForSW, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Maybe so, TheTaoOfBill. But the point of digg is not to only digg articles from your own website just as much as you say it's everybody's freedom to bury an article.
- AlmostEvil, on 10/10/2007, -4/+56It's not so much a lynch mob as destructoid are manipulating digg in order to make money. Don't you think that's wrong?
- m1tch37, on 10/10/2007, -1/+38The 'karma' system should be changed to reconise people as spammers if they only digg stories from only one domain (subbmitting from one domain is ok i guess)
- dukeferris, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20agreed, i submit a lot of stuff from my site too, but it ends there. i don't use a series of planted accounts or people to cheat.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27Most of them don't make it to the front page anyway, because the average digger buries it for being complete garbage. I think Digg should outright ban them. I'm tired of this *****.
- zeroiscariot, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1...says Mr. Assman with NO website, and most likely, NO job. get real dude, a dozen writers (god forbid!) digging their original WORK? NAH... maybe you'd rather Digg UP LOLCATZ all day, but take notice of that "gaming" header at the top of Digg, it's for games. Most gaming sites suck. Dtoid does not. ***** off, everybody!
- daridave, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17"the only reason they are such a big site is because of their articles constantly getting on the digg front page."
I absolutely agree. In fact, I always wondered how the heck that site came out of nowhere and seemed so popular all of a sudden. Oh, and I have to just say it, I always thought it sucked.
Up up, down down... yeah, time to go down, cheaters! - supaklaw, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Up to DIGG... wikipedia is implementing a policy of "reputation" so if these guys are always voting ***** to the front page... hey, it's fairly easy to record that if this is your own site... it you have 1000 votes per front page, and 600-700 are consistently the same peeps... it should be suspicious.
- birkoph, on 10/10/2007, -14/+5I wonder who else is gaming digg.
You FAIL at Web development Kevin Rose. - SqueakyWheel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+78000 ARTICLES A DAY is the problem
One article in this sea cannot be picked out - ShadowMarth, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4I don't get the outrage. Isn't this what digg is about? You post up a story, perhaps your own, and then you tell people to digg it, and hope that the Digg populace likes it enough to digg it up. They add a dozen or so diggs. That's nothing in the grand scheme.
- zeroiscariot, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2If you haters can't even Digg down a Dtoid article, then people want to read it. Dtoid isn't ultra high traffic, it is good writing with good style, and has a community that doesn't call each other ***** all day like other gaming sites. And if you ladies are colluding against a legit site, then YOU'RE the problem and are being hypocritical to the very point you're protesting. Get a friggin job. Or go call 13 year olds ***** on Joystinq.
- Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Umm I went over there and it seems like thats EXACTLY what they do, call eachother ***** all day
- nplace1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Dude... Destructoid does not have good writing. They're often innacurate: their MGS4 on 360 article was written as fact when the source was forum post of a rewritten IGN article about MGS2, and it had a lot of profanity and ridiculing PS3 owners. Very cool.
Destructoid is like the gaming equivalent of Raw Story, only they work to cheat the system and nothing they post is ever relevant.
- MrMil, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Why do we bother caring about this again?
- understudy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+133This speaks to a much larger problem on digg.
- n3on33, on 10/21/2007, -23/+577Here are only some of the culprits. Destructoid, if you get your staff to bury this article and it doesn't get indexed, I promise I will be back.

http://digg.com/users/Grigsby- agrabob, on 10/10/2007, -6/+109too bad we can't see who buried this article. I would venture a guess that a lot of those names would be on the list.
- usrlocalbin, on 10/10/2007, -10/+92I'm currently going to each of their pages and buring all their submissions as spam.
God damn this will take a while, but its worth it. If everyone at least buries as many as they can, we can show those *****.- dvddesign, on 10/10/2007, -58/+11May your e-penis get longer and harder with every click knowing that you did absolutely nothing other than fail to use the filters that digg created and provided to you.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30Really? There's a destructoid.com filter? sweet.
oh wait, that's *****. - HornyFox, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Do you know the expression "a better world". That works also with internet.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30Really? There's a destructoid.com filter? sweet.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15I'm going to just block each of the users that we can identify as spammers, then hopefully digg does the same.
- dvddesign, on 10/10/2007, -58/+11May your e-penis get longer and harder with every click knowing that you did absolutely nothing other than fail to use the filters that digg created and provided to you.
- Four20, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/Dear_Digg_Please_Do_Something_About_Destructoid_s_Cheaters_PIC
- opencombat, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0man, over 30 diggs in less than 24hs. Go outside for some fresh air.
- CReyes4182, on 10/10/2007, -6/+40Destructoid is full of a bunch of douche bags.. but I just noticed something. Most of your submissions are 1up stories O_o
- ScarlemNocturne, on 10/10/2007, -5/+25Ah, all of them are now bookmarked. Time for daily burying what ever they digg!
- LonesomeFighter, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8too bad they can get new accounts each day
- ScarlemNocturne, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Just got back from a bit of spam burying... wow, EVERYTHING was "dtoid" crap. After burying a whole screen and visiting a different profile digg page, everything was dugg down already because they digg all the same stories. Sad.
- alexkehr, on 10/10/2007, -18/+3Aren't you being a bit hypocritical by having Yahoo! ad's on that page?
- birkoph, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11If some video game site can game digg. I wonder who else is gaming it.
- xino, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1I remember hearing a story on digg some what recently that if you digg too much too fast, you can get banned because that shows them you aren't reading the article. I don't agree with that policy, but it does make me wonder if the people constantly burying lots and lots of stories will get banned with that policy. As Kevin Rose mentioned in a comment on that story, you are always able to email and explain what happened and they can unban you.
- mike_p, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2... and if you take a look at some of those people, it seems like a few of those "users" were trying to digg other stories recently for cover. Nearly everything else below those top few are destructoid. I say witch hunt.
- BlindsideDork, on 10/10/2007, -424/+17Sweet so how do you exactly "conduct an image"?
And the best part of this, Destructoid does NOT do top ten lists. This proves you have never read the site. Great work, whiney and all. I got some cheese to go alone with that if you want it.- dustysquareback, on 10/10/2007, -6/+85You fail.
- skyfire1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+54Dumbass. Why did you even bother posting it if we're lynching you.
- crackedplastic, on 10/10/2007, -2/+72The majority of the articles I've seen from Destructoid are paraphrase/clickthrough crap - hardly any original content. We've had enough of this.
- Fritzed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+41Your comment offended me and has been reported.
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -6/+31***** you.
- Todesengelvr6, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13This comment excited me and has been reported!
- ThE0eNiGmA, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21Wow, a spammer (just check his diggs, a lot of them are destructoid) actually bothers to show his face here.
*edit* Doh, n3on33 beat me to it. - JBabin3xB, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9Destructoid sucks, I'm never reading the site either
- squirmalicious, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Y'know, if you're going to comment on someone else's grammar/spelling/usage, etc., it usually helps to make sure your own is at least approaching something that could be considered correct. Just a tip.
- canewediggit, on 10/10/2007, -13/+127their stuff never really bothered me, and some of it is pretty good. but yeah, some bans are in order.
- n3on33, on 10/10/2007, -15/+357Look everyone, BlindsideDork's first page of Diggs is ONLY Destructoid articles. My.point.exactly.
http://digg.com/users/BlindsideDork/news/dugg- schmons, on 10/10/2007, -4/+161Lol this user started to digg other articles so it didn't look like he was digging only the destructiod articles but skip to page 2 and you'll see what's up.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/10/2007, -4/+34He pressed "undigg" to delete most of them from the list. I'm sure digg can check the history and ban him.
- psevium, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/BlindsideDork
- icantdothatdave, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Heh, check out the message at the top right of his blog: "Turn ons: Smash Bros., ninjas, METH". That explains a thing or two.
- withears, on 10/10/2007, -2/+26What an ass. And a coward too.
- BlindsideDork, on 10/10/2007, -474/+15Yeah, it is only Dtoid cause I don't go to this site very much because of these types of annoyances.
"ZOMG, they are cheating! I'm telling mommy!"- Schmidtopolis, on 10/10/2007, -2/+128More like, "here's proof of people gaming the system, let's do something about it". Don't get mad cause you got called out. Take it like a man.
- gwhardyiv, on 10/10/2007, -5/+75You're so busted. If you wonder why nobody is listening to you, it's because you're a shill.
- Fritzed, on 10/10/2007, -26/+12You shouldn't insult digg. I find that offensive and was forced to report this comment as such.
- ScarlemNocturne, on 10/10/2007, -2/+28Oh BlindsideDork, doesn't it make your cat cry that you sold out? C'mon, Steve, go back to bed.
- withears, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22LOL, you sound like a little boy.
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -6/+26***** you, again.
- JBabin3xB, on 10/10/2007, -6/+12My 4 year old daughter could kick your ass...
- booshack, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4You are being buried to record depths!!
Oh yeah and ***** you. - mike_p, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3Seriously... this guy is probably on their staff. Bury his ass or they get richer... I rather read Joystiq, anyway. Destructoid is teh crap!
Oh yeah... ***** you too, dork! - fo0L, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Nice replies BlindsideDork, way to ***** both yourself & destructoid. gg
- n3on33, on 10/10/2007, -8/+215Blindside, from the looks of it, you have dugg many articles from today, yesterday, the day before, all from DToid. It does seem like you visit Digg a lot.
- knelto, on 10/10/2007, -1/+88I love how after he was called out he started digging articles from other sites...
- BlindsideDork, on 10/10/2007, -333/+5Sweet, so 3 days = a lot?
You have been on Digg a lot cause you have stuff from almost a year ago. That is a lot, more than a month is a lot. Three days is not a lot. Get over it and stop crying!- Godlike, on 10/10/2007, -7/+50

- DIAF, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13?
- xino, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It's even funnier after realizing DIAF isn't that new on digg.
- JoeDonH, on 10/10/2007, -1/+48Wow, I've always kind of ignored submitted articles that point out gaming on Digg in the past, but damn if this one hasn't caught my attention. Especially since you've become the vocal adherent for Destructoid BlindsideDork.
Common sense would seem to dictate that the best method for dealing with a situation like this would be to have your best community representatives from Destructoid come here and acknowledge the situation, apologize, and either explain the rationale, or leave quietly and quickly. You, however, have stayed in the face of ridicule and readily available evidence of wrongdoing on your liege's part, and have tried to cover your tracks poorly.
With that in mind, I'm guessing that this wasn't a well thought out plan on Destructoid's part and they just communicated to their members to do their bidding, and people like BlindsideDork are still here pretending to be innocent because they haven't been back to the mothership to receive instructions yet. Badness all around, but thankfully it was pointed out.
Kudos n3on33. - schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26***** you, once more.

1) Destructoid has both a fan base and over 3 million visits every month. To complain about six or seven users is laughable.
2) By reviewing who dugg this article it is evident that most of you are obviously independent gaming web site operators. I'm sure Digg sees this sort of competitive foolishness all the time and you'll be ignored accordingly.
3) If you don't like our articles, bury them. That's how Digg works. The fact that you're trying to raise a campaign against a site that regularly contributes solid original and entertaining content to Digg on a regular basis is the real problem. You're the worst offender here.- canewediggit, on 10/10/2007, -7/+159he called you guys out. with proof and with good cause. i like your site, i think it's usually quality and the regular commenters are pretty f-ing funny. but when you have multiple people that are here doing nothing but digging from the same exact site and nothing else, that's bs. they need to be banned.
now you've made an accusation that most people digging this article are from competing sites. do you have proof? or just accusations because you're pissed you got busted?- Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -17/+6I believe hes basing the competing sites part on me, since I run my own gaming website
- neiltc13, on 10/10/2007, -1/+21I don't think HelmGames.com is quite in the big time yet.
- BryanJK, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7Good for you?
- Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9never said it was >_> we only have like 12 people who come to the site all the time, thats pretty damn small
- Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -17/+6I believe hes basing the competing sites part on me, since I run my own gaming website
- Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -9/+93Ya its funny how you guys have been called out on several occasions yet like no other gaming website has (that I know of). Also, I like how everytime there is an anti dtoid story you and your fanboys rush to the article to try and defend yourselves
No doubt you guys have your little digger squad burying this article right now - nonstop87, on 10/10/2007, -5/+83I'm digging this and I'm just an average Joe. If you are so popular then get the ***** off Digg and use your so called popularity to get people on your site.
- rm999, on 10/10/2007, -9/+32"You know that Digg encourages users to digg friend's stories, right?"
As much as I hate to admit it, he is right. Digg HAS to change this policy before it starts banning people who are technically following it. Otherwise, Digg will be making arbitrary judgments and contradicting itself.
I also hate how digg lets people digg stories they haven't read. Introduce a "bookmark" option already!- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Change what policy? The policy that lets you be interested in the same things as your friends?
And I digg stories I don't read all the time because I'm more interested in the discussion than the article. Conversely, I think the digg administrators know when someone buries a story without having opened it. - zaqu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0rm999 you see the truth i really wish your comment was first on the list it makes more sense than everyone else's too many people visit this site the Internet has gotten too big for the old digg system i agree they need a new one
- Alteron, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3The thing is, ya, maybe youll digg your friends articles more then others, but these dtiod people are JUST digging Dtoid articles, so its not like theyre actual users.
- xino, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I dugg you up because I agree that seeing friends' digg history and being able to digg those directly helps the spamming problem, but at the same time, it does a lot of good. I don't know what the solution for it is, but changing the policy is definitely not the answer. You have to take the good with the bad some times.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Change what policy? The policy that lets you be interested in the same things as your friends?
- ZeonZumDeikun, on 10/10/2007, -53/+6Agent Chieftain here.
I'm not sure why Digg is getting butthurt over Destructoid being dugg by it's regulars. It's not like evry other blog and community on the internet doesn't do the same damn thing.
Maybe we don't talk about Linux enough.- ShogunWarPig, on 10/10/2007, -20/+4wait did you say linux Im digging you up just because you said a word and Im a mindless fanboy.
/sarcasm - ZeonZumDeikun, on 10/10/2007, -26/+2Half of Digg isn't gong to get what you just said.
- Mitchbones, on 10/10/2007, -7/+51) At least Linux is positive.
2) Don't insult our intellegence
- ShogunWarPig, on 10/10/2007, -20/+4wait did you say linux Im digging you up just because you said a word and Im a mindless fanboy.
- CrasyMike, on 10/10/2007, -2/+30Whoa, what is this? Is this a nested comment? MAGIC
- max420, on 10/10/2007, -68/+4I agree with Destructiod, the other guy is a douche bag. Destructoid is a great site, and I digg every article that is submitted from there. I don't have any affiliation what so ever with dtoid, so whats the problem. You need to just get a life.
- xino, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Even the story from it with the title "Did the PS3 price really drop?" ? That was one of the worst articles I ever seen on digg in the almost 2 years I've had my account.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -30/+8I'm afraid destructoid is correct. If there's any problem here it's with digg. People are free to digg or bury sites as they wish. Every vote counts. If the digg population agrees that destructoid isn't worth reading then we'll never see one of their stories on the front page again.
- indicas, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17unless they have their crew push it on the front page. let's face it, digg is still vulnerable to manipulation.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2Even if destructoid had 300 people, that's nothing compared to the population of digg. If diggers want something buried it will be buried.
- mbthompson, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2Wrong! Because most users will click a few diggs here and there but VERY few will actually take the time to bury a story. Why? Because it takes an OBSCENE amount of buries to actually get something off the front page and there are mindless drones clicking away. If you know it probably won't work, you tend to give up.
- Monk22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1lol, you are wrong ill take the time to bury plenty of worthless crap
- mbthompson, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Previous comment was directed at spyrochaete, not indicas.
- indicas, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17unless they have their crew push it on the front page. let's face it, digg is still vulnerable to manipulation.
- CalmLlama, on 10/10/2007, -1/+40I think we just have a problem with people whos only purpose on digg is to digg up and down articles for a company.
- lougoose, on 10/10/2007, -4/+27Basically, you are an *****.
- jawngee, on 10/10/2007, -23/+6People seriously don't have better things to do?
I guess not since I'm commenting.
A digg button is not gaming. Digg provides the API for it, knowing full well that a blog's fan base is going to hit that on the regular.
I can't even comprehend that someone took time out from life to "investigate" something so trivial and unimportant. I mean I applaud the effort, but there are more important things going on out there that could use that energy and enthusiasm. Imagine what you could do.
(I don't work for nor really read Destructoid, I just agree that this lynching is uncalled for).
I want my four minutes back. - m4rk0551, on 10/10/2007, -10/+23***** Destroid. That site is full of sh!t.
- eric0213, on 10/10/2007, -1/+26But the terms of service state, under the user conduct section, that users should not use the service...
"with the intention of artificially inflating or altering the 'digg count', blog count, comments, or any other Digg service, including by way of creating separate user accounts for the purpose of artificially altering Digg's services; giving or receiving money or other remuneration in exchange for votes; or participating in any other organized effort that in any way artificially alters the results of Digg's services."
The "participating in any other organized effort that in any way artificially alters the results of Digg's services" is the part that sounds like what is being discussed.. - schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -6/+17Go ***** yourself.
- cortez_a, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16"The fact that you're trying to raise a campaign against a site that regularly contributes solid original and entertaining content to Digg on a regular basis is the real problem."
Thats rich - DROWE859, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I enjoy Destructiod.com's articles and digg it when I come across an interesting one. But the difference between a Digg user who likes Dtoid and an account that just diggs their articles is the same difference between a regular user and something like an IRC bot.
I think this hubbub is ridiculous, but I do agree one should not *only* digg Dtoid stuff. - drizzlelicious, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19I bet half of those 3 million visits come from Digg
- JBabin3xB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13"If you don't like our articles, bury them. That's how Digg works."
Digg cannot and will not operate if stories are buried or dugg on personal bias. Digg is there so average users can share with a vast, varied community with similar interests and opinions.
If your content is so great, then it will get to the front page through the system ( which many times it has ). But if you want to advertise, ***** rent a square and stay on the side. - crgnetworks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4haha you're going to lose half of your traffic when you're banned from digg :-)
- merdiesel, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4***** your bitch ass site...

Look at again, they make fun of sites that do Top Ten sites. TRUST ME, I know. But have fun being foolish cause I have to go. You know, I have a life in all.- screwzluse, on 10/10/2007, -5/+58Holy *****, buddy... Digg implemented nested comments. Give them a shot.
- robwilkens, on 10/10/2007, -1/+29I love it when people who clearly have no lives go out of their way to say "I have a life in all" (in all?) when it's clear they do not. I mean to go through the comments and "accidentally" digg all submissions from one site only must involve a lot of full-time digging.
- schoate09, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Someone who has a life doesn't post 4 comments in every other slot.
- jj9000, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14I think he's going for the title of most reported/buried user ever.
- Rizno, on 10/10/2007, -3/+4You lose. Bye!
- JBabin3xB, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6I'm ***** breathing, sounds like a life to me
- AhrenBa, on 10/10/2007, -9/+164BlindsideDork and n3on33,
Please use Digg's "reply to comment function"! It's there for a reason! No need to create a whole new comment thread in order to reply to a previous comment.- jmpeagle, on 10/10/2007, -34/+1whoops digg down.
- NictoTheSane, on 10/10/2007, -5/+23I love the sentiment, I really do, but am I the only one who finds it ironic that you posted this as a new comment and not as a reply to either that you were bashing?
- Shanobi, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Sometimes the reply function fails to work. I have to switch browsers and hope that it works every time I come here.
- Viral, on 10/10/2007, -6/+5Personally, I hate nested comments. I would rather read straight down through all comments than furiously click my way through a dozen nested sub-discussions of the same damned topic. Of course with the obvious irony that THIS is an off-topic discussion.....
- HolyChimp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Change the profile setting to expand all comments then. You can just read straight down, and still use the nested comments.
- jtorkbob, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3Wait, I thought the new comment system was evil? Oh, that was last month. Sorry.

- shakeeb, on 10/10/2007, -81/+7Oh wow, 31 people. Where did the rest of the diggs come from now, hm?
So what? Some fans want to support a great website, what the hell is your problem?- westible, on 10/10/2007, -23/+3lame
- duccodude, on 10/10/2007, -23/+3You have a valid point. I don't get why you're being dugg down
- llamabread, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9The fact that they only digg Destructoid stuff is the problem. If they dugg destructoid articles because they were a fan, wouldn't they also have other articles in their histories, not just those?
- MonkCanatella, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Add shakeeb to the list!
- shakeeb, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3Whoa, I've never been dugg down this much. It is truly an honor. And yes, please add my name to the list, seeing as how I havn't dugg a DTOID article in exactly 208 days.
- thezerogod, on 10/10/2007, -23/+4wow luckeloue, you can name people that are acknowledged by dtoid editors as regular readers, named on the podcast, and contribute to community blogs hosted by the site.
wait, they sound like real fans. i wonder if they're just trying to support a site they love?
no way, that's just crazy. *sarcasm off* - bpwwhirl, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22The user FAITHNAKED is also a Destructoid digger.
- Technopope, on 10/10/2007, -25/+4So it only takes 32 people to manipulate Digg stories? I suspect not.
Diggers will digg at they like, and not what they don't. If there were HUNDREDS if Destructoid "cheaters" doing this, you might be onto something.
But this only sounds like whining to me.- mbthompson, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Not only is 32 diggs plenty, but these are the only 32 we've found SO FAR! There could be many others just auto clicking dtoid stuff.
- Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -5/+18For those of you who say stuff like "but u cant gets on teh frontpage wit that many ppl!", all that needs to be done is that it hit the top 10 upcomming stories, then it will be noticed by more people, dugg by those that like it and then it will proceed to the frontpage
- profOblivion, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9It's almost like that's hard to understand.

FYI, Digg's comment system (since it was "improved"), no longer displays (or allows) hierarchal comments in some (very standards-compliant) browsers. Even dev builds of WebKit (known for being insanely good at parsing/rendering) have trouble.

- fmorel90, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8That's no better. You should read an article before burying it. There's bound to be good articles on Destructoid sometimes.

so they have 30 friends that will digg their articles. dont cry about it, get your own friends- chilekillr, on 10/10/2007, -2/+36They have thirty friends who seem to only digg their articles.
That's digg spam.- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -9/+3Digg has a friends function. I can add you as my friend, chilekillr. If I digg the same stories as you am I spamming?

- glucoseboy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+51Can't digg create some sort of filtering that the users can set? Something like "block articles / comments submitted by user x" or something to that effect. Many other forums have this feature. I don't care if bogus or manipulated stories get to the front page, just give me the tools to keep it off MY front page
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3You've been able to block users' comments since day one, I believe.

- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -6/+3You've been able to block users' comments since day one, I believe.
- WeeklyGeek, on 10/10/2007, -15/+40There's a difference between cheating and gaming digg's system to your advantage, and promoting quality content from your site. If dtoid's content isn't quality, you can always bury it. That's how digg works. How many Ron Paul articles do we have to suffer through on any given day? Why isn't anyone calling out his rabid internet fanbase?
- ParticleMan420, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21or apple articles....or ubuntu.....or the 100 "the best ever" articles per hour
- Schmidtopolis, on 10/10/2007, -8/+6I guess that'd be valid in this situation if all those articles came from the same web page. This is dtoid, not people of certain interests digging only stories that relate with that interest. Nah'mean? I don't, really.
- seek205, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Well if that is true (and it is) Then WHY do you have a ring of people only digging Destructoid articles??? You wouldn't need to do that right!? More attention faster, quicker, maybe? It does do something then hmm..
- flippedcracker, on 10/10/2007, -5/+61if i digg one of their articles, does it mean i'm helping them cheat?
- zybch, on 10/10/2007, -4/+41Yes. Now go to your room!
- lougoose, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20No, don't feel bad. They are just a bunch of assholes abusing Digg. You didn't do anything wrong.
- obixx, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9I am glad you cleared that up. I feel better now.
- Bioshocker, on 10/10/2007, -48/+181I don't really understand these sorts of sentiments.
Digg provides a set of buttons that you can put on your website, saying "Digg This". Digg then encourages website owners to use those buttons. It's a win-win for Digg and for the sites - both get more visitors.
That's what these sites do. They invite their readers to digg their articles, because yes, guess what, it helps their business.
I don't understand what the objection is here. Would you rather their content was left off Digg? I don't see how excluding content is going to improve Digg's quality? Why shouldn't sites be allowed to self-promote? It's a darn sight better than writing the content and then having someone else's blog-spam link to your site and get the front page instead.
Where is your evidence that these Destructoid shills are actually shills, rather than innocent readers of the site, who simply click Digg This whenever they see something on their favourite site that they like. Isn't that the point of the Digg This button?
The most you can achieve by self-promotion is to get onto the front page. After that, the Digg community will take over and either support the submission or bury it, since they are much greater in number. If the Digg community supports the submission, doesn't that tell you something? Doesn't it tell you that you're wrong?- montezumamike, on 10/10/2007, -17/+41Right on the mark.
- Sterango, on 10/10/2007, -21/+9You're running ont he failed assumption that people ont his site actually have time or give a ***** enough to click "bury" on soemthign they think isn;t newsworthy. hell do you know how many times I've passed on even digging something up that I found to be great news? Quite often. I simply am too lazy and don't care enough. So no you really can't trust the community as you say, that's a failed premise that people think works, it does not. People simply don;t care to take the time, and I can't blame them, I mean people have more important things to do in ife than sit on Digg all day burying stories they don;t think other people should se or digging them up.
- MrMil, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2This makes no sense.
- joefreeza, on 10/10/2007, -21/+8Also, I doubt that Dtroid has more than 50 users (if they did cheat) on digg. The rest of the diggs come from REAL users - users who actually enjoyed the article. I'm not really a fan of destruction (don't really know what it is) but there is no point of banning the site; that is just lost content; there may be something good that you miss.
- sakuraz, on 10/10/2007, -13/+56So they love Destructoid so much, that even though they signed up for digg, they won't digg anything else?
I don't buy it. - Nick22, on 10/10/2007, -7/+37Difference between promoting your own site and have 30 someting odd people digging only your stories
- bbardlbradd, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6I see both sides here. For one, the people from destructoid shouldn't be digging destructoid articles, they should be patting each other on the back. Digg though, is a place where many people bring in trash from way out on the web, to show people who might be interested.
You can bring your articles to digg's attention, but don't force it to a place that we diggers don't choose it to be. No more digging your own articles. - DeepFreezed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3in the process you move other important items away from the main page. Let digg function as it supposed to function. Digg by individual reader, not by some group that is cheating and trying to get their item to the top.
- mfratz, on 10/10/2007, -30/+11This really is useless. So what if they do cheat and get their stories to the front page, it doesn't stop other stories from making it nor does it stop people from burying it if they don't like it. Digg is all about use powered and user controlled content and since they are users they can digg and bury whatever they want. Digg has over a million users and to complain about 20 or 30 is really ridiculous.
Oh and btw I still dugg it. - stkman57, on 10/10/2007, -24/+5Who cares
- sweetlez, on 10/10/2007, -12/+35I don't like the fact that Dtoid writers digg their own work...But at the same time I really like the site and I digg their stuff frequently too. Should I be guilty for digging purely b/c I enjoy their site and their articles?
- cal0140, on 10/10/2007, -3/+18No, if you like the story, digg away. But if you ONLY digg Dtoid stories, you're a poor contributor to the community and are helping Dtoid get traffic they wouldn't otherwise get (doing exactly what they want you to).
- shaun1018, on 10/10/2007, -5/+45It would be completely different if they were actually using their digg accounts.
- zachninme, on 10/10/2007, -10/+5I wonder how many of these negative comments (pro-DToid) are made by dummy accounts with the sole purpose of commenting on this story?
- Yareking, on 10/10/2007, -22/+17By now i will bury all Destructoid story. Damn cheater!
- daeyeth, on 10/10/2007, -10/+52It's about damn time someone outed Destructoid. For all the ppl complaining about blogspam, I'll never guess why no one ever says that about the Dtoid crap.
- Sterango, on 10/10/2007, -5/+37So reading the comments here from the Destructiod Digg up committee sayignt hat Digg encourages this type f behavior, I guess it's safe to say that with the way rules stand now, Digg will just end up as a dump for articles from sources with the most friends. That's NOT really a good system. This rule may have been fine when Digg wan't that popular, but if it wants to be taken seriously as a source to find real meaningful news, and show things that people truly deem worthy that aren't just dugg up by friends, and not have this site just be a relay for advertising, then something needs to be nipped in the bud. You can't have your site be an unbiased haven of "good" news and an escape from mainstream biased media when all you will have on the front page is top 10 lists and interviews with Japanese RPG devs... I mean think about it, that's truly NOT news, NOT front page worthy by any means, and I'd rather just scour Google news and Comcast front page or some crap if it continues being like this.
- HigherLogic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6What Digg needs to do (and they might to some degree, who knows) is look at stories that users digg, and if it notices a high volume of articles coming either (a) only from one place or (b) the majority of the time from one place, it should reduce their vote to nothing, or gives it very little weight.
- Khemikl, on 10/10/2007, -12/+40I wonder if they know the Ron Paul bots?
- TRiXWoN, on 10/10/2007, -37/+7You sir... are a jackass. This is why digg exists, I doubt there are 300+ people working at destructoid, so if people didnt like the story it would quickly disappear who cares if they submit their own stories, it just means that those of us that care get the story that much faster ( I check Digg far more often than destructoid) and those of us who don't care can simply scroll on past or even bury it if you so choose. I can't believe you made it to the front page with a story like this.
- n3on33, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11They only need 10 or so to be noticed, then other users blatantly digg theirs up.
- Dimascus, on 10/10/2007, -24/+3I guess some people are not happy unless they are complaining. /leave trade
- ZeonZumDeikun, on 10/10/2007, -24/+15If people are REALLY getting pissy over this, Digg should be going to go after Ars Technica, TechEBlog, Gizmodo, Engadget, and just about every other site that hits the front page.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9Especially Gizmodo.. that site really sucks balls.
- sylv3r, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Yes, Gizmodo should just die idle
- miyamotofreak, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Generally if a site gets more than one or two articles front paged regularly, its probably gamed.
- zachninme, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12Well, those sites have NEWS. DToid just has stupid blog crap.
Plus, those sites are Tech sites, which means their news can fit in multiple categories. DToid is just gaming. So if all the gaming stories in the global top 10 at DToid's, then somethings wrong.
- scabbers, on 10/10/2007, -5/+9Especially Gizmodo.. that site really sucks balls.

- srudes2, on 10/10/2007, -10/+3just block those people and block the ability to submit stories from the destructoid.com website. Hopefully they won't start any blog entries with links to destructoid.com :(
- PrometheuZ, on 10/10/2007, -19/+9Who really cares? Just enjoy the site, either choose to read or bypass the stories submitted and quit complaining for crying out loud you crybabies!
- skunkman62, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1i agree but too bad you're getting digged down
- HCviolence, on 10/10/2007, -15/+14I agree with this, Ban the destructoid diggers. Hell, ban any posting of destructoid, if it's real news it'll be on multiple sites and most of their articles are cheap, poorly done, gossip.
- thisissami, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3i dunno, i find destructoids articles a lot more entertaining than other sites. they don't just report, but they add their own insight. personally i find destructoid to have superior writing skill, not "cheap, poorly done, gossip," as you say with horrid grammar.
- destructoid, on 10/10/2007, -83/+28By the way, it should be poignant to point out that this smear campaign is lead by Stuart Piazza (do a whois on the pic hosting domain), the writer of the failing 1P Start blog. If you're going to be a coward at least tell everyone know what your real motives are.
You know what. We work damn hard. We have good writers. If you don't like it, don't read us. Why start drama?- zeazzz, on 10/10/2007, -14/+28Stop crying. You know you have lost.

- Elric77, on 10/10/2007, -8/+39No offense, you have have horrible writers. Your "team" of Diggers must really love you, but most people hate you and your articles.
- sweetlez, on 10/10/2007, -12/+6Some of the funniest gaming articles I've read online have been from Destructoid. Find me a wittier main stream gaming blog- and don't say joystiq.
- destructoid, on 10/10/2007, -31/+6You know I have four people on staff that come from Wired, Kotaku, and Joystiq right? Just because we're not corporate doesn't mean we don't have good people.
- miyamotofreak, on 10/10/2007, -6/+15Maybe if you weren't gaming Digg he woulda had one his stories dugg.
- spyrochaete, on 10/10/2007, -13/+3There's no such thing as bad publicity. This is like The Pirate Bay all over again.
- zachninme, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11You have good writers!? Bring them out! I'd love to see some great stuff!
- jeremymccurdy, on 10/10/2007, -5/+13Who cares about the website that guy owns? He's not the one with 30 accounts devoted solely to digging his stories. *****.
- afx1, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11not really a smear campaign if what he's saying is true.
- prisonx2, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2The reason I abstain from reading the Digg Gaming section most of the time is due to Destructoid Spam. It never ceases to amaze me how poor the writing is on Destructoid, particularly the stories on so-called 'gaming culture' or "how to identify gamers" or what not. The writers, (although it is an insult to more esteemed writers to use that term with Destructoid), try to come across as savvy or clever but often don't use appropriate grammar, or a spell check. The very fact that a "writer" doesn't understand the difference between you and you're or they and they're on Destructoid Blogs is laughable and is why I find your site to be quite pathetic. Even more laughable is that these "writers" get paid for churning out sophomoric drivel week after week. The very fact that you call your site a hardcore gaming blog is in itself a complete farce. Truly, you are an insult to professional journalism, and I would be SHOCKED if any of your "staff" possessed a degree in Journalism or English, (other than from a Degree mill). My advice to you and your other hack writers is to find another job, because it's obvious that writing/journalism is not your calling in life.
- tlm2021, on 10/10/2007, -14/+9Digg needs an image section :p
- Pic0, on 10/10/2007, -6/+46I said this 3-4 months ago... nobody listens
- miyamotofreak, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Until the right people digg it (which is the real problem).
- sweetlez, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1It's hard to listen to you on the internet with all of the 0s and 1s. Yell a bit lounder next time we might hear you then.
- sho222, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1you must have forgotten to construct an image
- gavorkian, on 10/10/2007, -23/+8Who is to say that these supposed employee aren't just big Destructoid fans and want to support the site?
The Digg button is there to encourage sharing of sites and not all of Destructoid's content is garbage.
Destructoid articles that make it to the front page make it there on their own power.- HanSolo69, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12"Destructoid fans" and "Destructoid employees" are synonyms.
- ZeonZumDeikun, on 10/10/2007, -10/+3I was a Digg user long before I was a Destructoid reader, kid. I'm not on the payroll, I just like the site because there are no fanboys on it.
- jedikv, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7There are groups of people manipulating the system - not just destructoid.
- reed311, on 10/10/2007, -24/+10I would rather have Destructoid spam than Ron Paul and Ubuntu spam, any day of the week.

- ScarlemNocturne, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7Taken from Wikipedia (our bible).

- shadowspawn, on 10/10/2007, -11/+40You know, this makes for a great adblock site. I never knew destructoid was all advertisements... use adblock plus.
I love it when sites like this are exposed; it helps show the new domains that are to be submitted to the adblock database. Without the subby's help, there'd be another 20 domains that were never known about... those advertiser/scammers are quick to change domains.
So thanks guy, you at least helped adblock plus users. At most, well, I mean you can't help the public more than that, can you?- ZeonZumDeikun, on 10/10/2007, -17/+4That's not how you use Adblock Plus, *****.
