Their high profile exclusives just keep getting chipped away slowly. I never yell "OMG PS3 IS DYING" for every lame story about the latest Sony rep comment or about how some dude saw a few at Best Buy, but this... this is a tough blow.

I'm sure if they didn't before, by now everyone knows the PS3 is a waste of time/money. Unfortunately for Sony, developers like to make money, and releasing their games exclusively on their ***** low demand system ain't really gonna make them that money.

      I'd be shocked if MGS4 doesn't make its way to 360. It's bound to be one of the most expensive PS3 games and if it remains exclusive, then they're gonna take like what, 5 years to break even. Same goes for FF.

      Also, there is a difference if you look at a hypothetical situation where all games were released on both systems. In this scenario the 360 wins on the lower price point (as I highly doubt the nicer graphics [though we haven't even seen that yet] would justify a $200 higher price). The PS3 losing exclusives is a bigger hurt to Sony than Microsoft losing them just by virtue of this price difference. At least as far as I can tell.

Obviously if a game gets a simultaneous release then it is not an exclusive. People consider it an expected exclusive. But exclusives are games that no other system have. So My analogy was that saints row and those other games were exclusives and then were released on the PS3. Those games were not even mentioned about when speaking of losing exclusives (I wonder why). Now it is a big thing that DMC4 is coming to the 360? Here is a thought. I like DMC, but I didn't transition from my PS1 to my PS2 in anticipation for the game...... because I didn't know it was coming. I think exclusives for each system will come and new franchises are going to be brought forward just like they were in the last generation.

      And as far as the 360 winning on price point, it is said repeatedly that it is about value. If you were waiting on one or two games just to buy s ps3 (do people really do that?) then obviously you thought it wasn't much of a value so why would you spend so much for only one title. This is typical detractor FUD. There is no way Sony or the 360 will ose all their exclusives because of first party titles and I hate to point it out but Sony has more and better selling titles under their belt.

      That's it right there. PC. Anything you make for the 360 is easy to port to PC. We all ignore this important detail a little too much -- it's something VERY important for game devs.

A Volition rep even complained that they couldn't fit aircraft into the game because they ran out of space on the DVD. Now when the PS3 version has pilotable aircraft, all the Sony fanboys will jump all over it like wasn't old news to begin with.

      Nice Sony bashing to get a few diggs. Even if FFXIII and MGS4 did go multiplatform, losing a couple of key titles doesn't mean failure for the PS3. Sony still make good first party games (R&C, GoW, etc.), and there will be other exclusive 3rd party titles. The PS3 is still pretty early in its life cycle compared to the 360... give it time, and things will pick up like they did with the 360.

      Umm, splinter cell is X360 exlclusing going forward (next version), enchanted arms and saints row are not top exclusives on the level of Devil May Cry, Virtua Fighter, Splinter Cell, Grand Theft Auto, etc. etc.

      PS2's advantage was always its 3rd party titles like GTA,FF,MGS and the likes. The big 1st party titles are GT and God of war. GT is a generic racing game and can be comapred with xbox's forza or PGR. Not many people are gonna decide to buy a system based on these games. God of war,their only unique 1st party title sold less than 2.5 million copies. Compare that 2.5 mil on a user base of over 100 million with Xbox's 1st party titles like halo which sold 8 mil on a install base of 20 mil. Take other exclusives like gears of war,which will never see PS3.That sold 4 mil and counting up .

      This is what gonna make the difference. With all 3rd party biggies like GTA and DMC coming over, its xbox that holds the advantage. Halo will always sell more than god of war and other 1st party tile of sony put together. If you are gonna select a console ofn1st party titles alone, would you prefer a system with god of war,ratchet,resistance or the one with halo,gears of war,mass effect,bio shock.

      I don't know about that. I own a 360 and have no intention of buying a PS3, but I'd change the statement above to "if mgs4 and ff13 head to 360 the ps3 basically has no reason to be as expensive as it is anymore."

      If the games are all the same, then the PS3 better lower its price more competitively. As much as they'd like to think, a new movie format alone will not sell a GAMING console. Sony should have learned that from the PSP. I always loved the Dualshock controller more...until the Xbox 360 controller came out. Now if only they'd add rumble to the SIXAXIS and drop the price to the same level as the 360 I'd be willing to be on board.

Choice is rarely a negative and I am happy that this is multiplatform, when consoles cost so much as to make consumers go "one or the other" its always nice to lose as few games in the process as possible.

As an owner of all three next-gen consoles, I hope for the most exclusive games as possible because I know those always turn out to be the best.

      Halo 2 is an exception. It's coming out on PC years after the original and was completely redesigned.

      and the architecture of the Wii is very similar to the gamecube, so the zelda remark doesn't really work either, optimizing it for one of those systems would likely optimize it for the other.

      One of the things that I think has been interesting is the whole "Non-exclusivity is a new industry trend" comment. Last time I checked, MS and Nintendo aren't losing any exclusives. I think non-exclusivity is a new Sony trend, but that may just be splitting hairs.

    No system rules for 3 generations in a row. Atari couldn't do it, Nintendo couldn't do it, and history will show that neither can Sony.

    It's all about the 360 and Wii this time around.

      People *want* to buy the XBox 360 because it has features that neither console has -- each console has its "exclusive benefits" -- wii has motion sense controller for instance. Some of us consider XBox Live, XBox Live Marketplace (with movie/tv downloads), Windows Media Center Extender (play your media in the living room), XBox Video Camera doing living-room video-conferencing and a myriad of "cant do it on any other console" as more compelling than waving your arms around and hoping it translates into the correct controll response.

      Also, how long until XBox 360 is a SideShow compatible? No, MS hasnt announced this yet, but its only a matter of time IMHO. Apps run on PC, i can monitor their output on my XBox 360-connected TV.

      Oh, and visuals that are of 2007 vintage. Not 1.5 x 2001.

      If you ask me, the Xbox360 screen shots better. Although, if you look at the last image it seems as though the textures in the trunks are a bit sharper for the PS3.

And let's face it, the actual fighters are what matter not the background crowd. See video 3 from the official Fight night site http://www.easports.com/fightnightround3/ it details the improvements for the PS3 version.

Since most of these games were made for the 360 then ported to the PS3 there will have to be sacrifices made unless the developer goes back and recreates alot of the game assets for the different in architecture. In the case of the PS3, its installed base is not big enough to warrant a proper port from a 360 game. The only exception to this so far is Oblivion which does look slightly better on the PS3. I suspect the PS3 version of DMC4 will also be the better version of the game since the majority of its development was done with only the PS3 in mind.

      Eventually both consoles will have a big enough installed base that it becomes pointless to optimize for either system and then all games will be designed with the lowest common denominator in mind. Or the developers will optimize for both although this makes little or no sense from a business perspective especially given the "good enough" mentality that has taken hold of most consumers over the last ten years or so.
    • Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3In terms of GPU power and overall appearance, they're better on the 360. The 360 also has more RAM, so things might load smoother. However, there is greater room for complex AI on the PS3 due to the powerful cell processor, but that's about it.

      However, the differences between each consoles hardware is actually very minor, despite what any fanboy will tell you. The point is: most games will look similar on either platform, differences will be very minor in general. Both consoles have about equal graphical power.

      If anything at all, look for lost planet and dead rising on Vista PC's. It's not likely that they'll hit ps3 however.

      Capcom is making game X which used to be a PS3 exclusive.
      It is no longer a PS3 exclusive.
      Therefore, games A, B, and C will no longer be Xbox 360 exclusives, nor will their sequels be Xbox 360 exclusives.

      That's why you're getting buried. Because what you posted is just plain stupid.

      System sales show that Nintendo's system is in the lead. However, it does not dominate software sales.

      Indeed, the problem is that the Wii games which are selling well are all published by Nintendo. Third party publishers want nothing to do with the console when the only blockbuster games are published by Nintendo.

The ps3 is a great system but it is not worth that $600 dollar price tag I really wanted one but with every title lost so far the only one left I want to play on the ps3 is mgs 4 and it has a good chance of being on the 360 now so I don't see a reason to buy one.

    Exclusives are becoming a thing of the past. I have never really bought the hype behind consoles anyway my first love is my pc.

    Now to hope that the other developers behind PS3 'exclusives' come to that epiphany quicker. And realize whatever bribe money Sony is offering for exclusivity is not going to match the possible profits from multiplatform sales.

For them, it's really not worth the time and money to create something on the PS3 when it's a very limited consumer base (at this point) compared to the 360 and Wii. In the future, we'll see how things turn out. But for now, it's not really a smart business move.

      This, however, is a very smart business move, and obviously the reason Capcom did it.

    As for 360 losing loads of exclusivity deals, don't bet on it. Developers contracted on the 360 are hardly freaking out the way developers on the PS3 are. As somebody who works on Wall Street, I've seen first hand not only the trouble SONY's game division is in, but all of SONY's divisions are in. Word in the financial sector is that SONY lost their highly expensive gamble.

    Sony already said they where going to develop new better 1st party stuff rather then pay high dollars for exclusive 3rd party games. They have already showed it 2 times, Heavenly sword and Little Big Planet.

    I happen to like better this way. Some titles are always better on certain consoles and everybody wins. The fanboys keep the system of their choice alive and I don't have to buy $2000 of game consoles and equipment.

No exclusives this time around, game development has gone up, and the PS3's sales are down...they gotta make that money back somehow. This is also not surprising considering it was announced months ago. I've also heard that MGS4 will be on the 360 in one way or another. Considering how much Hideo Kojima along with Konami have invested into the game money and time-wise, this almost seems like a definite opportunity!
