NPD: PS3 Beats Xbox 360 For the Second Straight Month
gamedaily.com — This year is definitely turning out to be the "year of the PS3". With a victory over HD-DVD, 360 shortages and (finally) some high profile releases, Sony managed to sell 280k units while the 360 sold 254.6K. But the PS2 outsold BOTH of them with 351k. No surprises as to who beat EVERYONE else for the no.1 & no.2 positions.

Success for the PS3... kind of.- BlueSkyfish, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1These are the February NPD numbers listed in this article, btw.
- al11588, on 03/17/2008, -0/+0Phil Harrison left so sony so the ps3 is on death watch right now.

- KingGoonie, on 03/14/2008, -42/+16Year of the Wii actually... since it practically doubled its sales for this month. I din't know you can claim it the year of anything after 2 months... the 2 months that are always the lowest amount of game salse... and when the difference in sales is so minimum. But if its the year of anyone.. its the year of the system THAT IS SELLING MOST. So wii.
- darkchild82, on 03/14/2008, -15/+4I think why they say "year of the PS3" is because its going to be more of a come back for Sony more than anything else. I'm pretty sure Nintendo will trounce everybody with their sales but for the once dominant Sony, since the PS3 launch, they've garnered so much bad press & their exclusive titles weren't exactly what most people would call 'blockbusters'. I think this year, we're going to so those 'blockbusters'* - and some good press.
*Disclaimer: I'm pretty sure that one PARTICULAR blockbuster will show up on the 360 in a few months after its release on the PS3.- johnmalc, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3Sentences that end with such summations as "So wii." make me regret browsing the comments sections in gaming.

- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -7/+19Seriously can this stop? Wii isn't in the discussion. It's like comparing the cel phone market with the paper cups connected by a string market. A ton of people enjoy the cups, which is fine, but it's not the same class of product.
- Elranzer, on 03/15/2008, -2/+1I know. Unlike a cell phone, which just makes calls (and damn well), you can do so much with the cup.
With the cup you can communicate, you can drink out of it, catch bugs, assist with drawing of perfect circles, and act as an emergency pee toilet. The cup doesn't do any of these things perfectly or even that well, but it can do those things.
You're comparing the PS3 to the paper cup, right? - KingGoonie, on 03/15/2008, -3/+2NonLeft... this WII isn't in same category thing has to stop. Because it is... they are all the newest generation of video game systems. Period. End of Story. Wii is selling the best. PS3 and 360 are both competing with Wii and Wii is competing with both of them... Just like DS is competing with PSP... etc.. Take a GodDamn introduction to Business class.

- Renton, on 03/14/2008, -41/+25So the PS3 came in fourth place, but that's ok because the supply constrained Xbox360 came in fifth. So let's ignore the fact that it's getting it's ass kicked by the Wii, the DS, and even last generations PS2, and just randomly yell out "year of the PS3" even though the actual article implies otherwise.
- mywhitenoise, on 03/14/2008, -9/+34"Supply constrained" haha, such a ***** excuse.
You know, I hear the Wii is also "supply constrained", and yet that managed to sell close to half a million units in February. Is it so hard to believe that people are starting to pick up on the PS3?- KingGoonie, on 03/14/2008, -14/+6I gotta agree on this because I was thinking the same thing. I think the 360 will take the monthly leads back when the better game selling months come back, so I don't think PS3 now will start taking the lead... but supply constrained? Since when? Oh thats right, since January, the first month it sold less then PS3 in U.S.A. Oh yea, and they didn't announce the supply issues until after the sales figures came out. That may be acceptable for one month, but to then up and say it again now? Why didn't you say it at beginning of January.. or Mid Feb... why say it only after you see you lost to PS3 for the month? Everyone knows Wii is supply constrained, and Nintendo freely admits it all the time... when sales are announced, but also during other times. Plus you hear it all over the place on the regular news, from friends, etc... Not once have I heard a press release from MS or something on the news, anything about shortages... until they sales figure came out.
Jeez MS, the monthly lead will come back again, you don't need to make excuses.- mywhitenoise, on 03/14/2008, -5/+18That monthly lead isn't coming back for awhile. Who knows who will sell more consoles in March? 360 may have the edge in April when GTAIV comes out, but then again the PS3 is getting the same game, along with GT5:Prologue (Sonys biggest franchise, GT4 sold close to 10 million copies). A lot of people are going to ask themselves "well should I get the 360? I'll have to pay $50 to play online, and then extra cash for the DLC, on top of that the whole RROD thing...but then again I could pay $50 more for the PS3 that has free online play, and a blu-ray player".
June is a no brainer. Everyone who wants a PS3 is waiting for that month. From there on out there's going to be a ton of games coming out that rival the few exclusives that 360 is getting.- virtualmadden, on 03/14/2008, -4/+1How about PS3 is the best BRD player and it's seen a nice boost in sales due to people buying into HD discs, right now it's all about the loss of HD-DVD. Sony has positioned their console very well in terms of HD. The 360 is still selling better in the games department and more often than not most new games will be cross platform. Microsoft has a lot to work on, but it really doesn't look like this is more than a big "who cares".
- mywhitenoise, on 03/14/2008, -5/+18That monthly lead isn't coming back for awhile. Who knows who will sell more consoles in March? 360 may have the edge in April when GTAIV comes out, but then again the PS3 is getting the same game, along with GT5:Prologue (Sonys biggest franchise, GT4 sold close to 10 million copies). - Renton, on 03/14/2008, -19/+3That's horrible logic, and I don't know how you're being dug up.
"You know, I hear the Wii is also "supply constrained", and yet that managed to sell close to half a million units in February."
Supply constrained means people want more units than what is available. There were half a million Wiis available in February, but that wasn't enough to fill demand. With the Xbox360, demand is much lower, so it can have fewer units available and still be supply constrained.
"Is it so hard to believe that people are starting to pick up on the PS3?"
I have no problem believing the PS3 sold 281K units. The problem is that it's being outsold by three other systems, one of them outselling it over 2:1, and you're celebrating because it barely outsold the Xbox360 by less than 30K.- charlescheese, on 03/14/2008, -4/+15Are you through crying yet Renton?
- KingGoonie, on 03/14/2008, -3/+7Renton... but its not horrible logic when you consider no one even knew there was a shortage until all of a sudden MS said they were when the PS3 beat them for a month... And now a second month we hear its still those dang supply issues. How come we have been hearing from all over the place, news outlets, nintendo themselves, people on digg how impossible the Wii has been to get yet not a peep about that same issue from MS... until they wanted an excuse for lackluster sales. I dunno, my nephew just got a 360 for his birthday and it wasnt a problem at all, my brother walked into Bestbuy and picked one up... Something tells me there isn't really a shortage.. but that after the holiday season no one at all is really buying systems. Except for Wii maybe, but even those numbers are lower then usual aren't they? So whats the big deal?!?! Tell you what come april wii will probably sell less than both 360 & PS3... with GTA4... not sure if they can do the same in May with Wiifit coming out... but then again in June with MGS4 teh PS3 might get back on top. I won't cry shortages. Then Wii would probably be back on top once the MGS4 month is over lol.
Im just saying, saying you have shortages when it really doesnt seem that way, and only saying it after the numbers are announced... seems hokey. - B1663r, on 03/14/2008, -4/+4KingGoonie,
Consumers have been reporting an xbox shortage since late November. And many people here on digg reported it, and some blogs were even reporting it. In the weeks up until Christmas I posted pictures a couple of times of the big piles of ps3's vs the empty xbox shelves. I think YOU in particular stalked me at the time for suggesting that there was a xbox shortage, and you ran around for like a week dig down every comment I made suggesting an xbox shortage.
So your claim that no one knew about the reports of the shortage are not only not genuine, I would say they border on dishonestry.- staticneuron, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Well the fact is..... I can do the same thing for the wii. I can show you empty wii shelves vs fully stocked PS3 shelves yet that won't change the sales would it? The wii has been beating the pants off of both systems an it is the console that has been in the "supply shortage" status the longest.
So your telling me that the 360's shortage is somehow special in comparison to the wii shortage? How much longer is this excuse going to be used? The 360 sold the least for the past two months and they issue a statement about until after april. It sounds way to odd to believe. I bought it for the month of January and I will believe it translate to this month but if the 360 continues to be outsold into april I wont believe the supply excuses. - B1663r, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1staticneuron,
I said no such thing. I call KingGoonie a dirty rotten liar. Learn how to read. - KingGoonie, on 03/15/2008, -2/+2Really... because I used to come to digg every day during work and never seen a 360 supply issue topic until after January sales... AND NOT ONCE has it made the news, though the Wii has many times, especiialy in November, December. If its so hard to find why do I know 2 people who easily got it for Christmas at the first store they went to, and then my brother was easily able to pick it up for his son in late January? Maybe in those podunk towns in middle america its hard to find... but in NYC you basically walk into any store and you have your choice of any one you want... arcade, premium, elite... etc.
I love my 360 so I am not insulting the system, but like all you Portal fan boys keep saying.... to paraphrase... the shortage is a lie.
- staticneuron, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Well the fact is..... I can do the same thing for the wii. I can show you empty wii shelves vs fully stocked PS3 shelves yet that won't change the sales would it? - BlueSkyfish, on 03/14/2008, -7/+2Logic has no place here. This is a Sony fanboy fap fest. Anything that even hints as not blindly praising Sony will be buried by the sony defense force. Just look at the rest of the comments here.
- RandomGuySteve, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2I wouldn't really call a console that doesn't play DVDs competing against the PS3 and Xbox 360.
And I love my Wii. But Its not on the same level as those 2. Nintendo was tired of playing the same game as Sony and Nintendo. You're better off comparing the Wii to the DS and the PS2.- KingGoonie, on 03/15/2008, -1/+1Random, that first sentence is perhaps the most idiotic thing anyoen has ever said period. A videogame console competes mainly on one thing.. games... period. I can say "any system that doesnt have motion sensitivity to the scale Wii does can not compete against wii... so 360 and PS3 are last gen"
You do realize going by your logic... PS1 wasn't competing with N64 because N64 didn't play CDs. PS2/xbox werent competing with Gamecube because gamecube didnt play DVDS. Oh wait, PSP plays UMD movies, DS doesnt, so there not competing...
TAKE A GOD DAMN BUSINESS CLASS, THERE ARE ALL COMPETING, THEY ARE ALL VIDEOGAME CONSOLES PURE AND SIMPLE. When soemone can only buy one console, they are deciding BETWEEN ALL 3. If someone can only buy one console, and they buy a Wii, that takes a sale away from the other two. Oh my God how stupid are you people? Because it doesnt have a DVD player? Thats funny becasue I have a PS2 and a 360... but through the years when my dvd player broke I GOT A NEW DVD PLAYER because there two totally different things.- RandomGuySteve, on 03/16/2008, -0/+1Quit trying to put the Wii in the same class as the PS3 and 360. The Wii is not for people who want the latest graphics, online multiplayer (that doesn't involve friendcodes), storing music and movies, and most of all, the latest franchises which don't involve an italian plumber and his goofy friends.
The Wii is barely an improvement over the Gamecube and while the whole "repetitive stress injury as a control method" gets old in the time it takes you to reach your 10,000th wankfest in Mario Sunshine or Zelda.
It doesn't output in HD, it doesn't have the horsepower to play the latest franchises from big studios, and it suffers horribly in multiplayer, downloadable content (yay, all my old SNES games, great!), and lacks even the basic encryption methods used by recent wireless standards.
Your arguments are knee-jerk and invalid. The PS1, Saturn, and N64 were the latest in gaming capabilities for their eras. Same with the PS2, Dreamcast, Xbox, and to a lesser extent, Gamecube. Watching COD on the Wii is embarrassing.
There might be some overlap in markets, in the same way that those goofy single-game composite bundles compete. If Sony or Microsoft tried to make their latest consoles like that, the one that didn't do it would be the new winner of the next gen race.
Progress is not JUST an IR pointer. The Wii is not "this gen".

- rickyroca, on 03/14/2008, -17/+9Good for the PS3. This is a blanket statement, but I think DMC4 is the first title the PS3 has had in the top 5 in SW sales since the PS3 was released. Shows that good/popular SW = HW sales. The statements/claims that MGS will sell systems and bring the PS3 back should come to fruition. The BR win didnt hurt the PS3 either of course. I am looking to pick up a PS3 for Holiday '08.

- chocobomog, on 03/14/2008, -8/+22How is that bad news for the PS3? Sony is profiting from the PS2, and many of those PS2 owners are likely to buy the PS3 in a few years when prices drop even more. I doubt Sony is "worried" that a 8 year-old system is still selling 350k a month.
- AwesomeMonster, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1if they want to push a new console they probably want people to purchase thier new system instead. More money and more third party help shifts to the ps3

- elint6, on 03/14/2008, -24/+11One has to wonder how many of those PS3s are just dedicated Blu-Ray players. I say this because the 360 has a clear lead in game sales and profitability (from hereon out). Either way, I hope for a long war so that we can drive out third-party exclusives. A surge of multi-platform games will give all gamers some peace of mind, especially in future generations of consoles.
Before fanboys get a hold of this thread, I wanna say that it's not in any one of our interests to have one console to rule them all. - volacide, on 03/14/2008, -24/+65The Blu-Ray effect.
- jabberwolf, on 03/14/2008, -11/+5Im still surprised, a whole 2 months?!?! And how long as the xbox 360 been out ?
- EatingPie, on 03/14/2008, -7/+16Very likely, for the time being... but I think that's only part of the story.
I bought the PS3 *primarily* for Blu-Ray, already owning a 360. However, it was an no-brainer to decide on a Blu-Ray player that also plays games. I've made several PS3 recommendations solely for Blu-Ray capability, but everyone that followed through basically felt the same way. "Hey, it plays some pretty awesome games, too!"
So it's still a mix. I think that gamers like the Blu-Ray playback capability. Blu-Ray watchers like the gaming capabilities. This all equates to better console sales overall. (And I think the PS3 deserves it, it's an engineering work of art.)
-Pie- FredFredrickson, on 03/14/2008, -2/+7"Blu-Ray watchers like the gaming capabilities."
I disagree. I think that some might, but most of the people just looking for a BR player aren't really all that interested in most of the other features of the PS3. If there were a cheaper BR player on the market, you wouldn't be seeing such a spike in the sales for the last two months. Look at the attach rate for the PS3 compared to the other consoles, and you'll see what I mean. - mywhitenoise, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2I bought it to play my NIN blu-ray (which I hardly even watch...the other 2 NIN videos are better). Now I have 14 PS3 games, and probably around 30 blu-ray movies...and I didn't even have that big of an interest in movies, or HD prior to buying it.
- volacide, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2I whole heartedly agree. I'm a huge PS3 game fan but Blu-Ray fan too. So the PS3 is freaking ideal for me. I have about 45 Blu-Ray movies and that grows constantly as well as a large number of PS3 games already too.
There are going to be some amazing games coming out this year too. Metal Gear Solid is my favorite game series of all time so needless to say I'm going to be a happy gamer come June.
I was just saying that I believe right now that the reason the PS3 is doing so well is because of Blu-Ray winning recently, gradually that will turn into people buying the PS3 mostly for games come mid-08. So Sony really has hit the winning formula it seems.
- FredFredrickson, on 03/14/2008, -2/+7"Blu-Ray watchers like the gaming capabilities."
- floppyparty, on 03/14/2008, -8/+4HUH? THE PS2 has blu-ray?!??!
- einsiders, on 03/14/2008, -2/+4I have no doubt the spike in sales was the Blu-ray effect. But one thing we haven't seen is whether the Bluray effect will correspond to game sales. Remember, Sony still loses money selling the PS3 on a purely hardware standpoint, which is why standalone bluray player manufacturers (who can't sell hardware at a loss) are so upset with them. I own both a 360 elite and a 40G PS3, own 10 games on the 360 and use my ps3 exclusively as a bluray player (primarily b/c i like rumble and xblive). And one thing people are glossing over in this latest NPD is how dominant the 360 is in software sales to the other two nextegen consoles. So don't be so quick to declare this as a decisive momentum shift to the PS3 until they start matching the 360 in game sales.
- volacide, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1Actually they break even now. So they aren't still losing money.
- tault, on 03/14/2008, -34/+17Buried for a pointless digg article. Both 360 and PS3 articles need to die haha. There is no real giant jump. One they start selling more than 250k a month than the other console then ill care. Haha im going to start posting this in both 360 and PS3 Posts as its needed.
Im not a fan boy of either side but lets play the game of math
360 has right now 17.5million out
PS3 has right now 10.8million out
Based on the site you have shown the ps3 beats the 360 by about 50k on average monthly. That was just a rough visual some times its up to 80k some times its down to 20k
So in order for the ps3 to surpass the 360 in total sales they need around 134 weeks. Or about 2 and a half years at this pace. Also remember that this big spike might be due to the fact hd-dvd lost so people such as myself are getting ps3s as the cheapest and best blue ray player around.
Not here to be a bitch but its somewhat annoying when people skew facts to make it like the ps3 is going to kill the xbox360 when in actuality the next xbox should be out before the ps3 sales more consoles. They need to bring it up to winning by around 100k each week and not just 50k- JayD16, on 03/14/2008, -9/+6You're using NPD(North American sales only) to bridge the world wide sales gap....
Also you're assuming that there aren't more sales in xmas. We all know Feb sales are as high as December, right?
What was that about skewing facts? - krische, on 03/14/2008, -6/+5yes, but NPD numbers are only the US. (360's clear target market). The PS3 is outselling it in just about every other part of the world, and now america too. It's hard to estimate for the entire world since there are no official sales numbers for all territories. But going off of vgchartz, (I know not the best) the PS3 is outselling by approx. 150k - 200k for the past few months. So definitely a little quicker pace worldwide.
- JayD16, on 03/14/2008, -9/+6You're using NPD(North American sales only) to bridge the world wide sales gap....
- tault, on 03/14/2008, -14/+3Hey i meant to say 50k on average weekly and not monthly. But you get the point. They are basically on par. The real question is when MGS4 and Final Fantasy 15000 comes out haha. Then we can see what is going to come from it.
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/14/2008, -6/+3As great as the games are, I highly doubt they would narrow the gap between the PS3 and 360.
- DextaRussell, on 03/14/2008, -20/+7This doesn't mean ps3 is going to surpass xbox 360. just means people have their income tax to spend on the ps3.. lol
- insomniac8400, on 03/14/2008, -27/+14The ps3 sales are meaningless if you are trying to call the ps3 a game console. Now that HD-DVD is dead, people are going to be buying the ps3 for blu-ray. Ignoring that fact is stupid.
- chocobomog, on 03/14/2008, -5/+11and people who never bought a game console but buy the PS3 for Blu-ray may also buy a game to try out the "game console" aspect of it. My father bought the PS3 for Blu-ray and never played console games before. Now he owns 5 PS3 games and I see him online most nights playing Orange Box. Ignoring this "possibility" is stupid.
- ChromaVita, on 03/14/2008, -3/+5yea, but to be fair Orange Box is awesome...
- notabanana, on 03/15/2008, -1/+0That comment was awesome.
- ChromaVita, on 03/14/2008, -3/+5yea, but to be fair Orange Box is awesome...
- volacide, on 03/14/2008, -1/+8Most definitely, but are you trying to say it's not a good game console? If so, that's just ignorant. The PS3 is such a good value.
I mean what does it change whether the PS3s sales were boosted by games or Blu-Ray? A product that gets sold no matter the reason is still a product sold. - quomen, on 03/14/2008, -1/+5I guess the PS2 didn't have a DVD player.
[/sarcasm] - kingmanic, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3@insomniac: Published attach rate says you haven't a clue what you are speaking of.
- LordSkywalker, on 03/14/2008, -11/+35I also will be picking up a PS3 now that BR won. I've got Netflix for the HD movies, and now I'll be able to play the few exclusives I want like Drake, UT3, and Resistance.
- pagefaultca, on 03/14/2008, -3/+10UT3 is not exclusive to PS3, it is also on PC and is coming to 360 in a few months.
- WhereAmI, on 03/14/2008, -1/+8Alot of 360 gamers don't count PC as a platform, and have stated so. Especially in cases like Bioshock. Anyway, will the 360 version have mod, keyboard/mouse support? Epic is trying but Microsoft isn't too fond of this idea, but I think it will since the PS3 does it.
- notabanana, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1Its not exclusive to 360 but the ps3 version allows mods like the pc one, while the 360 version doesn't.
- prince87x, on 03/14/2008, -2/+4Can't wait for Resistance 2! The first was such a great launch title.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -6/+4Drake might be one of the most overrated games I've played in the 2nd gen. It was okay, because of graphics, but it scored 9's and 10's at will, when really as a fun game it's about a 5 or 6. After playing through the 360 shooter library back dating to 2005, resistance is a joke...... but, to be positive, orange box and RSV are available for the PS3, and either of those is a far superior shooter to resistance.
- pagefaultca, on 03/14/2008, -3/+10UT3 is not exclusive to PS3, it is also on PC and is coming to 360 in a few months.
- TubeDigger, on 03/14/2008, -16/+8Free online play and remote play. Game over Microsoft you just can't compete with that
- Jexie, on 03/14/2008, -11/+7They already did beat it, 360/PS3's lifespans are more than half over already and the PS3 is going to have to get a lot more magical than this if they expect it to finish its lifespan ahead of the 360 (which is saying a lot since the 360 is a piece of *****). Sony clawing its way from 3rd place in the gaming market is great news now?
- mywhitenoise, on 03/14/2008, -0/+6The PS3 has only been out for about a year and 4 months in the US (one year in Europe)...if it's lifecycle is already half way there, i'm going to be ***** pissed.
- Jexie, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2You're right, I miscalculated that.
- mywhitenoise, on 03/14/2008, -0/+6The PS3 has only been out for about a year and 4 months in the US (one year in Europe)...if it's lifecycle is already half way there, i'm going to be ***** pissed.
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -11/+3Free online play is a bad thing, as it's less time and resources that will be spent to create a better gaming environment. I've owned the PS2 and the Xbox, now the 360 and have played the PS3 a lot. Console ***** aside, Xbox Live is just a far superior online system, no contest.
- bmdubya, on 03/14/2008, -9/+55This is really not surprising. Even though I own a 360, and have since it launched, it is going to lose a lot of steam this year. The PS3 will not blow it out of the water, but it is going to be a little more even in the number of sales. But its sad that people pay so much attention to this crap, when there are a lot better things to pay attention to with video games, like the games themselves. But for some reason, people always want a "winner." I've never known why. It is just what ever console you like better.
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/14/2008, -6/+6True. Back in the PS vs N64 days, people always stated that the Playstation was the winner but I honestly liked my N64 much more. The day I played OoT was probably one of my best gaming days in my life.
- dangerdooms, on 03/14/2008, -4/+3Final Fantasy VII was the greatest 7 months of my of my pre-teen life...
- deaftly, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2I loved them both.
- dangerdooms, on 03/14/2008, -4/+3Final Fantasy VII was the greatest 7 months of my of my pre-teen life...
- i4mt3hwin, on 03/14/2008, -0/+5I agree, all three consoles really have their advantages and disadvantages. You should make your purchase based on what features best suit your needs. I must say though, all three developers are really firing away on all pistons. Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony are all making gaming a lot more exciting.
- dysonlu, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2Well, in this "iPod" generation, you are what you bought. Sad but true.
- greevar, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1I'm happy with my Wii60. I don't need another console.
- azurechaos, on 03/14/2008, -0/+1I think the issue with people wanting the "winner" is that consoles (at least the most hi-end, this excludes the wii) are becoming a much larger investment for people to make. It's always more beneficial to have the system that will be a financial success because games will continue to be made for it, while if a system fails the games stop being made and your investment goes down the drain.
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/14/2008, -6/+6True. Back in the PS vs N64 days, people always stated that the Playstation was the winner but I honestly liked my N64 much more. The day I played OoT was probably one of my best gaming days in my life.
- linuxrocks2007, on 03/14/2008, -12/+4Wow, so many comments here are useless. So is mine.

- dungbeetle, on 03/15/2008, -1/+6This is one of the main the reasons I haven't bought one yet. I still hear of people having failures and I'm not willing to spend 350 on something that I can't rely on.
- Rileyper, on 03/14/2008, -9/+3BSOD
- sUGArDawg, on 03/14/2008, -25/+16Are they bundling it with a half-decent online service yet?
- Tahiri, on 03/14/2008, -1/+10Yes, have since launch
- indiancompanion, on 03/15/2008, -0/+3A lot better than Nintendo's, I can't even get brawl to go online half the time.
- fr0ng, on 03/14/2008, -21/+26Second straight month out of the last 12 or more? This reminds me of Hillary trying to spin off her losses as wins.
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -10/+45Honestly, who gives a *****. Enjoy your console of preference and stop trying to shove your console down everyones throat with ***** statistics. I'm sick of seeing articles on a weekly basis about what console is selling more units this week, I care far more about the games then what console is selling better.
- WermerSkoch, on 03/14/2008, -3/+5I agree with you about how stupid fanboy-ism can be, but sometimes it is important to watch which console is selling better... I loved the games on my Dreamcast, and was enjoying those, and look what happened... Poor Dreamcast. :(
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -2/+6Yes, but we are not talking about things on a huge level like the Dreamcast, we are talking about little unimportant crap like "The PS3 is selling 25K more units a month". It's pointless fanboyism like that that creates these ***** debacles between the consoles to begin with.
- petebot, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4I don't think either of these consoles are going to be "dreamcasted." Both the PS3 and the 360 have sold over 10 million systems (and that's just in the US!), and they're both still selling. Nobody has to worry about support dropping out for their system. That's why these stories are useless.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3It's an interesting arguement to many of us when it's objective, I own both, comparing them and talking about them has been fun for me. Fanboys are retarded, but there are interesting contrasts to be made.
- dysonlu, on 03/14/2008, -5/+3What goes around comes around. In a not so distant past, we had been seeing countless stories about how the PS3 sales were lagging behind the 360's.
- SSCrow, on 03/14/2008, -3/+4Don't you understand?
The more people agree with my choice the better of a person I am, It increases my self-worth and esteem!
People look to me and say, "hey that guy, picked the right console this gen. Lets make him feel good about it!"- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -3/+1You got that right and MS knows this. It's why they paid those goofballs on MTV to stand behind the 360 on that launch show and clap for it like morons. More people paid to clap for the system = more hype = more sales. It's all psychology!
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2Would you let somebody who picked the wrong console sleep with your wife? I didn't think so. But the guy who picked the right one, mi casa es su casa!
- solinent, on 03/15/2008, -1/+2It's fun? Seriously, a lot of people on digg enjoy statistics -- if you liked sports, then you would have understood.
- Mr.Gone, on 03/14/2008, -23/+12Sweet, now PS3 just needs to come out with some exclusive games worth playing and they will.... well.... they will tie 360, oh well.
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -15/+17Oh you mean besides:
Warhawk
Ratchet and Clank
Gran Turismo
MGS
Heavenly Sword
Pixeljunk Monsters (yes, I went there)
Resistance 1 and 2
Killzone
LBP
SOCOM
Wipeout HD
God of War 3
? Yeah now, let's name some true 360 exclusives.. Oh.. uuhhh Kameo? Crackdown? Boooorrrriinng.. The PS3 has many more true exclusives that you simply cannot play on any other system that are much better than stupid Kameo and Crackdown. Call us when the 360 has something worthwhile coming out this year.- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -10/+10Wow, you think the only exclusive's for the 360 are Kameo and Crackdown, I hate rabid fanboys.
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -11/+8Name some other outstanding ones. And don't say Gears of War or Bioshock, please. I can play those on my PC. True exclusives. Go ahead, red ringer.
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -2/+6Not including games also on the PC: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Xbox_360-onl ...
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -5/+3Ppssh.. Please.. None of those games combined add up to what MGS4, WipeoutHD, and LBP will be. Give me a break. All we need now is a Wii fanboy claiming the 3rd party support on it is ROCKIN'!!
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -2/+5Honestly, none of the games you listed on your original post seemed remotely exciting to me, but the thing is that is my opinion. The moral of the story is everyone has opinions and personal preferences, stop running around insulting other people's personal preferences just because they are not your own. In other words, grow up kid.
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -5/+2So when a PS3 owner says the unit has more and better exclusives, I'm a kid insulting other's opinions.. But when you're a 360 owner, well.. That's just your opinions huh?
Bottom line, if you find any of those "exclusives" on the 360 remotely interesting compared to what is coming for the PS3, your gaming tastes are very misaligned with the gaming populace as a whole and are therefore, niche. Even the reviews for PS3 games thusfar has been documented by professional reviewers to be higher.
How about you 360 excusionists just stay out of glowing PS3 posts with your misinformation and PS3 owners won't have to respond to the crap you spout? - MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2You just yet again proved my point, grow up.
- zornedge, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2So... how old are you?
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -3/+2I didn't know you had a point. Besides pointing out goofball games nobody cares about besides you against a stellar lineup of PS3 titles. Now, stop insulting my age before I tell my daddy and he beats your daddy up! Boo hoo!
(I'm actually bored at my mother-in-laws... Again, try not to take it so personally.) - NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2I'm not sure what my age has to do with debating which console has the better exclusives coming unless you're just looking for cheap shots that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. Typicle 360 Live player. Keep calling each other fa**ots and Ni**ers online would ya? It seems to be what you're best at, cheap insults.
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2My point was to enjoy your personal preference and to not insult others for theirs, which you obviously can't do. Also, it has nothing to do with your age, it has to do with your maturity, which is something you lack. I'm not going to debate this further, one day you'll understand, hopefully.
- zornedge, on 03/15/2008, -2/+1Exactly. Say, you got a car... and you're overjoyed by it. I say the car sucks because of this and that... and you're like "Hey, why are you even insulting it, I have a ***** CAR!" Well *****.
You're well within your rights to show one console's superiority to others, but to suppress other people's loves for their own consoles is just plain ***** wrong. I'm a Wii fanboy, by the way.
- indiancompanion, on 03/15/2008, -1/+2The lists are getting old, everyone should just realize that both have their own exclusives that are good
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -10/+10Wow, you think the only exclusive's for the 360 are Kameo and Crackdown, I hate rabid fanboys.
- Mr.Gone, on 03/14/2008, -12/+6Ratchet and Clank, oh you're right, there is a good one. And why did you list God of War twice and change it's name to Heavenly Sword?
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -15/+17Oh you mean besides:
- rikwakefield, on 03/14/2008, -12/+13[generic fanboy comment]
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -13/+6With free online that is getting better and better, built in Bluray, built in wireless, an easy to upgrade HD without spending exhorbitant amounts of money, and more *true* exclusives that matter than the 360, is it even any question the PS3 is a better system overall for gaming and Hidef movie watching? Not to mention reliability. Of course the Microsoft excusionists will have about 1,000,000 excuses as to why the 360 isn't doing so hot against the PS3, but who cares. Knock yourselves out trying to comprehend the fact you've invested in the wrong system (and possibly hidef format), I'll be playing games and watching Bluray movies.
- floppyparty, on 03/14/2008, -1/+7What's it going to take to get you into this PS3 today?
- FredFredrickson, on 03/14/2008, -3/+5ROFL @ "true exclusives"
Gimme a break man, just be happy with what you bought and shut the ***** up about it.- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -4/+3Awwww.. Someone got their widdle feewings hurt.. How about you come back with an actual reply instead of angry consumer rage for buying the garbage you've been fooled into buying? Yes, true exclusives.. You know.. Ones that don't come out on the PS3 this month and the PC in 6 like the 360?
- deaftly, on 03/14/2008, -3/+1.
- azncommunist198, on 03/14/2008, -4/+0"I'll be playing games"
Does not compute- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2I'm sure it doesn't! You know.. Playing games instead of waiting for your third 360 to be repaired so you can.
- deaftly, on 03/14/2008, -4/+4Fanboys like you make me hate video games more and more everyday.
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -4/+3I think you spending all of your lunch money on the 360 and it's $100 wireless adapter and failure of an HDDVD addon would make more of a negative impression than a PS3 owner finally having something.. ANYTHING to gloat about. Don't take it so personal I'd recommend. It's just a console.
- lcmatt, on 03/14/2008, -8/+14The PS3 is slowly gaining momentum but at the same time you have to remember the 360 has been out alot longer than Sony's so sales will start to drop slightly.
- slaystench, on 03/14/2008, -4/+7Like the PS2 last gen?
- deaftly, on 03/14/2008, -8/+14Well this is apparently because of 360 shortages. Heres a post I found that seems to make sense why
"A national logistics company I work with has virtually no 360s in any of their warehouses in the country (137 total - 120 Arcade, 17 Premium, 0 Elite). By contrast, they have 4800 40GB PS3s. A local EB manager said his chain still have plenty in their warehouses. He believes, and I'm inclined to agree, that MS is allowing the old systems to flush out of the supply chain for their new, lower-priced line to hit in mid-April (just before GTA IV). The new line will consist of a $199 Arcade, a $249 60GB version, and a $349 120GB version."- PorkFat, on 03/14/2008, -7/+1And how many of those will give red rings of death? If that problem wasn't so prevalent, I would have got a 360 over a PS3. Add in free network play and multi-format games are finally of equal quality, user replaceable HDD without hacking and Blu-Ray winning and I knew Sony had a winner on their hands. I just wish it wasn't so, well, XBox HUGE. It's really starting to turn around. Anecdotally, all the guys at work are picking one up after getting 360 after bad 360 and the problem is so bad that MS tech support hasn't been answering their phones and they disabled the website and they'll probably keep them that way until the first batch's warranty runs out.
- dsmx, on 03/14/2008, -7/+5Yes because MS have had shortages for 2 straight months after Christmas, anyone who believes the xbox 360 is supply constrained has to very gullible. PS3 is selling more and is more difficult to make I find it very hard to believe MS on that supply constrained crap.
- pandorazboxx, on 03/14/2008, -1/+7I have yet to go to a store where they did not have any xbox360s
- BedPost, on 03/15/2008, -3/+1More SDKs? More? ***** MORE?!
- pidge, on 03/14/2008, -13/+7I am an adult and a parent so my only concern is that I will not have enough time to enjoy all of the games I am looking forward to this year on my Playstation 3.
- SSCrow, on 03/14/2008, -2/+4Does being an "adult" and a "Parent" make us care about your concerns more?
- Dracusis, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2Clearly you have time to trawl Digg, so I don't see how you'd *not* have time to play some games too.
- heystoopid, on 03/14/2008, -12/+4Very funny , since Nintendo have outsold and out performed all the above in all markets since first released with world wide sales now running at 1.8 million units per month !
There are lies , damned lies and then there are statistics ! ;)- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Yeah they sold a lot of units, but so did microsoft melinium. The day a Wii is plugged into my 52" HDTV is the day I give it away for free and go get a library card.
- Awspire, on 03/14/2008, -12/+6I was hoping the 360 would have killed the PS3 or vice versa. Screw competition when it comes to gaming consoles. Give me one friggin console, and let the game devs battle out the competition for quality programming. This three console ***** sucks, for the cost, for the space, for the collection, and for everything else.
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -3/+3If we didn't have competition then things would get stagnant, fast. Look at EA, they have eaten most of their competition and in turn their games are utter crap because they can get away with it. Competition is not the problem.
- reed311, on 03/14/2008, -4/+3There was no real competition to the NES or the Gameboy and few people would argue that those were crappy systems.
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -0/+3Both of them had competition, there was Sega Master System, Neo Geo, Atari, and many others for the NES. The Gameboy had the Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, and recently the PSP, and all the lesser game-phone hybrids.
- Awspire, on 03/14/2008, -3/+1I'm talking about consoles, not game development. It would be awesome for game developers to only have to concentrate on one platform. Not to mention, probably cheaper to distribute games in the long run, since everything would be for one console, giving them huge volume sales instead of this ***** exclusivity crap. Multiple consoles have ruined gaming for the consumer.
- reed311, on 03/14/2008, -4/+3There was no real competition to the NES or the Gameboy and few people would argue that those were crappy systems.
- exomni, on 03/14/2008, -2/+1I vehemently disagree. If you only want one console, the 360 has everything you need. If not, having the PS3 and the Wii is just icing on the cake.
- MillionsLivio, on 03/14/2008, -3/+3If we didn't have competition then things would get stagnant, fast. Look at EA, they have eaten most of their competition and in turn their games are utter crap because they can get away with it. Competition is not the problem.
- Spooky, on 03/14/2008, -17/+15Until Gears of War 2 :-)
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -15/+11Whcih won't put a dent in sales compared to God of War 3, next..
- mrshickadance9, on 03/14/2008, -8/+13sure. we'll see about that.
- volacide, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3I don't know man... God of War is pretty huge. I think some people might be a little blinded by the current hype surrounding Gears of War. I'm not saying it's a bad game at all, it's a great game. But I do think it seems like Gears of War is the most popular game ever right now but in pure sales it's not that way at all.
What I'm saying is there's a difference between percieved popularity and actual sales popularity.
- mrshickadance9, on 03/14/2008, -8/+13sure. we'll see about that.
- HigherLogic, on 03/14/2008, -2/+4That and when Fall arrives. I don't understand why gaming companies wait until the end of the year to release a ***** of games and then go stagnant the rest of the year. I mean, look at last year and what came out: Halo 3, CoD4, Assassin's Creed, Orange Box, Mass Effect, etc. They just threw all these games on us and then nothing. We get little spurts here and there of some good ones, but...
- BCRazgriz, on 03/14/2008, -7/+7Thing I love about Microsoft is all their 'exclusives' go to the PC. So all I have to do is pick up a PS3 and I win no matter which console sells more. =D
- HigherLogic, on 03/15/2008, -1/+2...so when is Halo 3 coming to PC?
- Dracusis, on 03/15/2008, -2/+2^ Yup, and I can run them on the PC in 1920x1200 with AA & AF and a higher framerate. In another 12 months the 360 will just be an entry level PC you can't upgrade.
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -15/+11Whcih won't put a dent in sales compared to God of War 3, next..
- nurriz, on 03/14/2008, -3/+10Why is this a topic of interest? None of these consoles are going to disappear anytime soon. It's like following a sportsevent between 3 or 4 teams, with the really rabid fans being from the ones in the bottom of the table. But I fail to understand the rivalry. First of all, it is a relative small investment in hardware compared to a lot of the hardware we're sitting on right now (PCs), secondly there is an alltime low in difference between the game selection of the two. It seems like a distant past when exclusive titles rules the world, so if that's your point you're buying a console while in the want for relatively few titles.
- mrshickadance9, on 03/14/2008, -14/+7too bad their online service is a joke.
...and their selection of exclusive games.- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -8/+10Only.. Their online isn't a joke and is almost what Live is, only free. And they also have more true exclusives already than the overheating monster of doom with even more coming next year. Sell now! Sell now! Firesale on 360's on ebay and Craigslist for PS3's!
- mrshickadance9, on 03/14/2008, -6/+2key word: almost
- wageslaven, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1"Their online...is almost what Live "

- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -3/+2In my opinion I could give a rat's ass about 2008 360 exclusives. 2007 was pretty awesome though.

Bioshock 2 eventually
Halo Wars
that's enough for me.- marik297, on 03/14/2008, -3/+7Bioshock 2 and Gears 2 will eventually hit PC. I couldn't care less about Halo Wars with Starcraft 2 maybe coming out this year.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3I did say 2008, and Gears wasn't up there when I checked the planned line up (a while ago). And I'm covered with both, in case 2009 and on are blow outs for one of the two.
I'm interested in Haze and Resistance 2 as long as they make it a lot better than 1 - cococrispies, on 03/14/2008, -0/+2ill give u gears 2, bioshock which was dated for 09, but my main problem is that you are excited about an RTS coming out for a console. tell me the last time that actually worked.
- BabyWookie, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2Personally, I am pretty hyped about Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Gears of War 2 and Too Human.
- mrshickadance9, on 03/14/2008, -3/+3Gears of war in late 2008
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -8/+10Only.. Their online isn't a joke and is almost what Live is, only free. And they also have more true exclusives already than the overheating monster of doom with even more coming next year. Sell now! Sell now! Firesale on 360's on ebay and Craigslist for PS3's!
- FredFredrickson, on 03/14/2008, -7/+15This is all happening in the two months the media's made a big deal about Blu-ray beating HD-DVD (they're STILL going on and on about it), and a supposed shortage of 360's. And I still say "big deal, I do not care."
Sony should have been the hands-down 10:1 winner of this console race. They should have released at the same time as the 360 (or sooner), and totally blown it out of the water... especially considering the insane popularity of the PS2 versus the questionable original Xbox. But such is not the case, and now you're celebrating when the console is playing catch up. It's pathetic on multiple levels, but mostly in that so many people are so, so worried that their PS3 isn't good enough until sales figures confirm it.
I'm happy with my 360. You're happy with your PS3. Can we just all shut the ***** up about it already?- deaftly, on 03/14/2008, -2/+9Replying before NipGrip does!

- slaystench, on 03/14/2008, -5/+3I'm sure you were a key developer of the PS3 and know the exact reasons it came out when it did. But shut up.
- philhatesyou, on 03/14/2008, -7/+2That comment doesn't explain the numerous posts in your history where you unceremoniously bash the PS3 all the while glorifying your 360. People like you who bitch about everyone just going to their corners and enjoying their own ***** is funny that way... you never say it when the news is good for the side you've chosen. You can ***** right off :)
- FredFredrickson, on 03/17/2008, -0/+1The fact that you actually looked at my post history before commenting just proves you're far more invested in your console than you should be.

- jtscira, on 03/14/2008, -9/+5I hope they pass the Xbox in sales. I mean the 360 has been out a YEAR longer. The fact they are still selling systems in the same pace as the PS3 they are doing well. Everyone should just buy both.
- Dobby156, on 03/14/2008, -6/+1everyone should buy a decnt Gaming PC

The special olympics are way more fun to watch! - NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -7/+19I'll tell you what, I'm starting to convert. 360 better library so far, but I have mine out in the open under my TV and I sit 6 feet away usually. That thing's noise level is COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS, having a PS3 to compare too is what led to the all CAPS there. I have a 5.1 and it has no prayer of drowning it out at a practical (aka roommate acceptable, fairly noise tolerable roommates too) sound level. And it's kind of annyoing to see Microsoft dismiss bluray functionality (despite the business relationship difficulty) as if the HDTV era isn't upon us and starting to blow up.... I sold that red haired step child of a external add-on player once Netflix cancled HDDVD. And for those that think they don't care about the HD, HDDVD & Bluray visuals are bad ass on a big HDTV. Watch Ratatouille in a store on Bluray and then tell me you don't care about having a HD player.
And why the hell did Microsoft try to get away with not having an HDMI port in the beginning, when I bought mine I was HD uneducated, and didn't realize what a pain in the ass not having one would turn out to be.
I think PS3 is going to get the games worked out, and it's going to start winning in the next few years. Their hardware is flatout better for most users. Plugging a SD card in and using their picture viewer on a large HDTV is suprisingly awesome. 2007 seems like it was big year of big market must have exclusives for the 360. I don't see 360 exclusives for 2008 that are must have.
Sorry, I sound like a tyrant, but the longer I own the PS3 the more my 360 pisses me off.... but I'm glad I'm covered with both.
IMO- nurriz, on 03/14/2008, -1/+6I'm in the process of deciding which one to get first. Is the Elite as noisy? And how is it compared to the PS3? Just wondering, have no idea if you now :)
- NipGrip, on 03/14/2008, -3/+5Go for the PS3, you can upgrade the HD very cheaply, free online that is getting better (especially in June), more true exclusives, and you can still play the most popular games out there like Burnout, CoD4, Rock Band, GH3, etc.. It's got HDMI already built in and doh, almost forgot, a Bluray player! If you get the 60 gig model, you can also play the entire back library of PS2 games which is a good thing. Very reliable too.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -1/+2That is actually a super good point. I borrowed a friends GoW2, what an epic game. I own Burnout and doom for the Xbox, but they don't play and I'm not interested in finding the SW upgrades to get them to work.
- BabyWookie, on 03/15/2008, -1/+1If the games are on the compatibility list, the updates are downloaded and installed automatically, when you put the disc in. Ninja Gaide Black was awesome on the 360.

- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -1/+3Depends on how you plan on using them. I have gamefly and I rent at will, I've played probably 20 games to completion in the past 6 months between the two, mostly on 360 (yes, I've regressed to no life). Playing that many titles the 360 has been better for gaming overall.....so far.
Pro PS3:
If you are looking for an all around media device it's PS3 hands down. It's basically the best Bluray player on the market, given it's guarantee of long term support and ability to be upgraded as Bluray evolves. It's picture/movie viewer is the best/fastest I've ever used including PC's, and they look awesome on HDTV (if you have a decent camera). The wireless card connected to our router quicker than my PC, online gaming is free, and I feel the configuration options in the base OS are much more powerful though slightly less user friendly. Six axis, this is neat here and there, but not a major +. And my plan is to hopefully have some significant pro-game based arguements to throw in by the end of 2008.
Pro 360
Better controller so far, batteries last longer, but have to be replaced (cycling between two sets of rechargeable NiMH makes this okay). The 360 library from 05-07 is pretty awesome. I really liked Halo 3, Gears, and Bioshock.... but my other favorites are not exclusive (GRAW, orange box, RSVegas). Ratchet and Clank is the only really good exlusive I've played on the PS3, but I bought the PS3 because the 2008 exclusive releases look more interesting to me. It has an infrared port, which is a plus for people who want to integrate their game player with a universal remote (not me). No integrated wireless or power supply, boo.
Don't know about the noise from the new ones, I bought a pre-HDMI premium 360 in August 07, it's loud as hell. I didn't care as much until the PS3 demonstrated to me that you don't have to have a constant dustbuster like drone when playing games or watching movies.- tcaduto, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1For the universal remote issue with the PS3 there is a elegant solution in the works:

- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1Oh yeah, I feel so bad at not mentioning COD4 as one of the best titles period (for both) that I felt I had to correct this massive injustice.
- BedPost, on 03/15/2008, -2/+1I have a launch 360. Mine's fairly quiet. I think it really depends on how lucky you are.

- BabyWookie, on 03/14/2008, -4/+2No big 360 exlclusives? How about Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden 2, Gears of War 2, Too Human and Splinter Cell 5? The 360's drive noise never bothered me, personally. My 5.1 sound completely drowns in out, in all circumbstances. Then again, I don't live in my parents' basement. Viewing pictures on a PS3 is slow as *****. I never used it after the initial time. The difference between HDMI and component for video quality is pretty ***** insignificant too.
- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/14/2008, -2/+3Operator problem, the PS3 flips through 4 and 5 meg pictures with the right trigger just as fast as it responds in a shooting game, and loads 80gig movies from my camera almost as fast, my PC takes up to 10-20 seconds to load the same movie, at least when reading from my 2GB SD card. I didn't even care about this feature or know it existed, but I tried it for fun and was blown away.
Games over component were fine, the difference was most definitely significant with DVD and HDDVD playback. I've got the VGA which is does the 1080p, but half my TV's tuning options don't work for VGA. And if the HDDVD did survive, all the movies coming out in a few years won't allow 1080p over component (pointless now yes, but example of design flaw none the less). Plus HDMI audio&visual all in one makes wiring a lot cleaner, which starts to become more important with full entertainment centers. 360 wins for games so far, which in a game only arguement is the end of story. But at the end of the day the PS3's design and feature set are much better.
No, I'm personally not interested in the exclusives for 2008, after I saw the planned releases in January I went out and bought a PS3. Gears of War 2 is the exception. And the games available for both I'm probably going to try to rent for the PS3 when possible.
You don't live in your parents' basement, and you don't live with a girlfriend either. She'd kick you out if you played the 5.1 loud enough to drown that thing out on a constant basis.
In design comparison I'm being objective.- BabyWookie, on 03/15/2008, -3/+1Uh. It's really not that loud. The volume level on my Onkyo receiver goes from 0 to 100 and I can keep it on 40 and it makes the 360's DVD drive noise a non-issue. Maybe yours is just ***** up that way? Also, if some woman ever tried to tell me how loud I can have my audio system on in my own house, she would be the one out on the street, in no time. No pussy is worth my balls. I am very traditional that way.
The 360 and the PS3 are primarily game consoles and as far as game console design and features go, the 360 wins, hands down. The PS3 has a convoluted hardware architecture, that makes game development more difficult and less cost-effective for the game-makers. The hardware capabilities are plainly inferior: the Cell is a useless mess, the memory architecture is terrible, crippling it further and the GPU is strictly last-gen. Plus, the 360 looks a lot more modern and cooler. The PS3 shouldn't have been designed with the George Foreman grill serving as the inspiration. The controllers are superior on the 360, as well, unless you are a child or a midget, that is.
You load 80 gig movies from a 2GB SD card, eh?
As far as PS3's exclusives, none get me very excited. I could give a rat's ass about LBP. We get enough games like that on the Wii. I am definitely not paying $40 for the GT5 demo. I am not very excited for MSG4 either. I liked MGS, but thought that MSG2 was a faggy, convoluted, cut-scene ridden mess. Resistance was a solid, but very derivative shooter and I didn't like the first Killzone at all.- NonLeftistDiggr, on 03/15/2008, -1/+280mb....
Many of your points from the start are valid, although I think I finally found a woman I'm willing to give some testicular fortitude up for, as long as I get her to stop thinking SDTV and renting large budget action movies on DVD are perfeclty fine (project 2% complete, 5 months behind schedule)....
best console has:
PS3 console packaging design (functionally, don't care about the looks), I/O, and feature set, XBox architecture and GPU (I read the GPU comparison, 360's is bad ass), Xbox controller (with PS3 triggers), 360 library (so far), Xbox live at PS3 network price. That's the best console.... for me. I didn't plan on buying multimedia machines, but now it's in front of me and I've tried the non gaming features, I really like some of them.
That's dorky as hell, but that's a quick summary of everything I've said so far.

I will say with 100% confidence that this is a pure FUD comment.
You can plug your camera right into the USB port and the pictures load very fast right from the USB mass storage device and the ones you copy to the roomy 40gb (or greater if you upgraded it) load lightning fast.

- Hawk117, on 03/14/2008, -2/+2I don't see what you're trying to get at with the bit about Microsoft drastically lowering their prices. Microsoft rushed to the market and forced Sony to enter the race before they were ready, and that is part of the reason why the cost of a PS3 has gone down drastically, because newer technology is more expensive to produce, but will drop as time goes on. Also as a result of Microsoft rushing to release, Microsoft is forced to deal with the hardware problems that many people have.
- diggrim, on 03/14/2008, -1/+1Microsoft can lose billions on the Xbox. their goal is not to be the #1 game console (while being profitable), their goal is to get into every living room on the planet and then start from step 1 of getting profitable.

- exomni, on 03/14/2008, -4/+4Even with more high profile releases, Blu-Ray as the sole HD format, and higher quantities shipped (while the 360 was running out of 360's to sell with shortages), PS3 still couldn't beat 360 by any more than under 30k?
I'm not impressed.
Sony has to do something drastic once GTA4 launches and Microsoft inevitably lowers the price. If Microsoft plays its cards right, with maybe even a lowest-price GTA4 bundle, they could stay above PS3 for good.- philhatesyou, on 03/14/2008, -0/+4That's only in NA, where the 360 has been soundly destroying the PS3 since the PS3 came out. Worldwide, the story is entirely differrent, PS3 has been outselling the 360 by 300,000 or more units a month. If things get any better for the PS3, MS is in SERIOUS trouble.
- PCXBOX360, on 03/15/2008, -0/+0Microsoft is one of the wealthiest companies in the world. Very few things can get them in serious trouble.
- Me0wmix, on 03/14/2008, -2/+8I think the non-gamers boosted the sales. Due to blu-ray winning, and they wanted a cheap blu-ray player.
- indiancompanion, on 03/15/2008, -0/+2non-gamers have been boosting Wii sales for a while now....your point?
- misfit410, on 03/16/2008, -1/+1There is a difference between Casual gamers and non gamers.. Casual gamers still BUY GAMES, non gamers do not.

- spacebuddy, on 03/14/2008, -3/+2I was playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on my friends PS3 the other day. This is not an XBOX360 exclusive.
