    • sinembarg0, on 10/07/2008, -1/+4It's hard to play gears after playing gears 2 for a little bit. Here are some of the things I noticed while playing (There was a tourny at my college):
      No active sniper downs anymore, thank god
      In general, it takes longer to down people.
      The shotgun is more focused, while fighting someone from 30-40 feet away, he managed to down me with the shotgun while I was lancering him.
      Most bullets show trails now, but more faint that the longshot in gears1, but enough to strike fear into enemies.
      Two piecing is difficult, the stun time is the same for both people (meleer and meleee)
      Weapon spawns can change between rounds (in wingman, thats all I got to play). E.g. a sniper spawned one round, but the next round a torque bow spawned there. the other switcher that I known of is frags with poison gas grenades.
      Smoke grenades explode a little bit now, not enough to do damage, but enough to stun people.
      I think the corners are still not perfect, but they are better (less sniper corner shooting)
      I didn't really get a chance to check weapon respawn time, so I don't know if its still a minute.
      The pistol bullets are significantly weaker than before (I think didn't use it a whole lot).
      Hammerburst changes a ton, but I never used it because at the beginning of the game you choose to start with hammerburst or lancer, and I always chose lancer.
      Boomshot has 3 bullets instead of 2 to start. Most weapons have more starting ammo now (330 lancer, 32 shotgun)
      The active timings are very close if not the same, i had no trouble adapting.

      Other people I played with said the following:
      Chainsaw has less range now., you have to be really close
      Others had trouble getting stuck on walls when running by them.

      Some things I didn't test but wish I had:
      Pistol whipping, frag tagging, sniper melee, torque melee (the ranges and stun times).
      I didn't get to see the hammer of dawn, but I hope cog hammer is blue.

      • sinembarg0, on 10/07/2008, -0/+1We played over LAN, I'd assume 10/100, but I was able to shoot (with a torque) an enemy's foot as he was rolling under a bridge, when I wasn't the host. That wouldn't fly even over LAN in gears 1. I think it's better, but I can't really speculate. The 2nd part of the tournament is over the internet, so I will be able to speculate more on lag after that (I don't know when it is yet though).

  • kschaller, on 10/07/2008, -1/+1I only recently bought an Xbox 360 and have only had the chance to play the original Gears of War on a PC. To be honest, I wasn't very impressed. The gameplay seemed repetitive and dull (run, cover, shoot, repeat) and I quit playing after an hour or so. I keep hearing such great things about GoW, not to mention its upcoming sequel... is it possible that the console version would somehow be more fun? Did I not give the game enough of a chance? Someone please set me straight!

  • shadeofgreen, on 10/07/2008, -2/+1Those pics don't even look that great from a technical standpoint. The locust on the turret shot is really bad. And big deal, there appears to be an event that looks a lot like a rail shooting sequence.

    GoW is so painfully overrated. It just looks pretty, and now it looks a little dated. Don't get me started on the story.
