Ocarina of Time 2D creator has one final message to any non-believers

youtube.com — It seems "Dampe" isn't dead. But according to him, he is. At least, that's what he said on his YouTube bulletin.

      Regardless, it's time for a voice of reason. I'm beginning to think this has gone on long enough. It's pretty well known now, that he may well have faked his own death. Get over it. We've all had a good laugh about it. Digg users and pretty much every other social site on the 'net have had their pound of flesh and humiliated him in every way possible. Now let it go. Yes he upset people, but he's human. He's 15 years old. It's not the end of the world.

      There are some people on here who I swear would like to keep on shaming him until he ends up taking his own life. Then how would y'all feel?

      I think the thing that would put a stop to it is an apology. It's really that that difficult a concept. When you do something bad, you apologize. And you mean it. Otherwise, people don't ever cut you some slack. If you're never actually sorry and don't apologize or do it insincerely, people will still give you crap forever. You'd still get a few griefers, but not like all the people mad about it right now.

      (Oh, and if you actually think he's not dead, read http://squidnews.com/2007/04/01/dampes-not-dead-ocarina-of-time-2d-creator-fakes-his-death/ . Even the person who hosted his site now admits he's not dead.)

      The worst part of all this is that he blew it way out of proportion on his own. Projects get canned all the time, but generally, if there's enough interest, someone else picks it up. The real shame here is that instead of letting someone else offer to take over the project, he's gone and faked his own death. Of course, if it's all just for publicity, he's doing a great job, because I never would have heard of this project otherwise. And of course, if he is really dead (which even I'll admit from what I've read, seems unrealistic), or he kills himself (and he does seem a tad unstable if he feels the need to fake his own death instead of just canceling the project) everyone is going to feel like quite the *****.

Since I'm the only one using my computer I have all my passwords saved in Firefox for convenience; were I to randomly die it would be easy for my computer-literate brother to use the saved password list to revisit sites I've been to and post obituaries on behalf of the family as a whole. Dampe could be in the same situation.

      Having said that, this IS very suspicious.

If I decided to "die" it would be a simple matter for me to not use my accounts ever again, suspend my Gmail address, and establish a new web identity from scratch, waiting 24 hours to be issued a new IP before signing up at sites again (as that is the main identification that two accounts are by the same user). Since my family knows little or nothing of my online activities me giving them a new email adress or MSN nick wouldn't ring any warning bells.

    Now admittedly he's younger and under stress, so he may not have thought this out as much, but... for a faked death he could have done better.
